Eurocucina 2012 | Milan Toncelli Cucine s.p.a. Pavilion 9- Stand C09/D12
TONCELLI MODERNISES THE TECHNOLOGY OF THE PAST, WHILE ANTICIPATING THE TRENDS OF THE FUTURE
THE TONCELLI STAND AT EUROCUCINA 2012 The Toncelli Eurocucina 2012 stand interprets the company’s new communication with a modern and technological look. No choice has been left to chance. The materials, such as perforated metal sheets with a strobe effect inspired by the work of Japanese architect Mitsuhara Kojima, echo the company’s vision - oriented toward innovation and high-tech. The faceted surfaces are inspired by the new Prisma collection, while Toncelli red together with white are the new colours of company communications - a fundamental look that leaves space for the kitchen and its design. A display window offers a glimpse into the stand, for a preview of the new line available to the general public at the Fair. Meanwhile, accredited visitors can participate in a tour that follows the time-line from the kitchen inspired by the past, Progetto50, with its unbridled and contemporary design, to the entry level Prisma. The motto is Back to the future.
“Progetto50 and Prisma are two faces of the same vision: our passion for technology, and our intention to make it current and tangible in every kitchen, through master workmanship in the Tuscan artisan tradition. Progetto50 is a return to the present based on technological research that sinks its roots into the past, in the footsteps of the Renaissance inlayers and French cabinetmakers. It is a celebration of 50 years of company history, and the people who contributed to its success. It is a tribute to the talent and to the manual arts that have made interior design prestigious throughout the course of history. Today, together with Experientia, who share our passion for technological research, and the same desire to make it current, we are exploring the future and creating a present-day technological kitchen that is sophisticated, futuristic and dynamic, with Prisma. Progetto50, Prisma, and the other collections presented at the Fair - Essential Quadra, Nantìa, Morning Calm - represent five diverse styles, satisfying five areas of different taste. They are the result of work from a company with just one identity and great flexibility.” - Lorenzo Toncelli
EUROCUCINA 2012 Toncelli has participated 19 times in Eurocucina, the unmissable event for the best in the kitchen sector. In 2010, for its 50th anniversary, Toncelli presented Progetto50, a minimalist collection, enriched with exclusive Italian-made materials, reinterpreting the secrets of 18th century French cabinetmakers and 15th century inlayers. In 2012, Toncelli proposes six kitchen spaces: the original Progetto50, and a version with alternative materials and colours; Essential Quadra (evolution of Essential and Credenza collections); a contemporary restyling of the Nantìa; Morning Calm, produced by Toncelli’s Korean partner Nefs; and Prisma, the new technological jewel, created with Experientia. Progetto50 brought past technology into the present Prisma anticipates the future.

PROGETTO50
A stand-out kitchen
Progetto50 pays homage to Tuscan Renaissance genius, with Toncelli ensuring that this art remains alive in our memories
The crowning glory of Toncelli design
Technology in good hands Technological research and meticulous workmanship by Tuscany’s master craftsmen make Progetto50 a jewel of cutting-edge, contemporary design. The bevelled door, the exclusive cement mousse of the top, the hand-stitched leather and hand-scored wood, and the precise and silent mechanisms of the drawers.
Star of the 2010 edition, Progetto50 represents 50 years of Toncelli history and experience. The design is essential and contemporary. The materials and finishings are precious and futuristic: scored walnut and cement, leather and marble. An exclusive creation, enriched with handcrafted workmanship and fittings, and an inlaying technique perfected during the Renaissance. A work of art, Progetto50 can dialogue with diverse environments and styles. Today, it is available in a new character, with textures and materials that further enhance its sensual beauty.
Artistic and artisanal design the cigar cabinet A unique piece, beautifully designed and realised by Tuscan master craftsmen for the preservation and maturation of cigars, with compartments dedicated to the enjoyment of chocolate, a selection of liquors, and a space for games. Just like the other two special pieces, the Cigar Cabinet doors are also decorated with inlaying using the mathematical perspective technique. The result is a composition that combines up to 15 species of wood in a mosaic that hints at the contents of the cabinet and the promise of an exclusive moment, with a hand of poker, a matured cigar and a glass of rum. The cabinet is a work of extremely accurate technical and design solutions. In the upper section, two humidors guarantee the correct conditions, through the Peltier method, which maintains a constant temperature (18°-20°) and humidity (65-75%) for the preservation of

MORNING CALM
Bringing the Orient to the kitchen
“The land of the morning calm” was the name of the ancient Korean dynasty, Joseon. Inspired by Korea, oriental tranquility is translated into a harmonious design, where minimalist lines and a predominance of white are broken by a single coloured insert. It is inspired by ik-gong, the bird wing, a decorative element of aristocratic houses in the Joseon era, and by traditional costumes. It is an expression of national sentiment and a sign of the elegance of chromatic taste interpreted through modern and typically Korean eyes. Morning Calm is the new 2012 product from Nefs, designed by Toncelli, in which the return to the past, to tradition, to nostalgia for the age of childhood are expressed in unmistakable Korean style.
Technical details:
One of the interesting elements of the composition of this collection is the island, dubbed “family island”, due to the movement of the wooden bench top, which favours family interaction and activity in the kitchen. It also offers furnishing solutions with spaces that vary according to necessity, with diverse functional solutions: workbench, home bar and desk. The tall unit cupboards conceal the oven and present two novelties: a door with magnetic blackboard inside and a calligraphic Korean incision on the door which transmits a sense of harmony in a traditionally Oriental style. An element with open shelving completes the design of the tall units, while the handles of the base cupboards underline the harmony of the whole, in an innovative design that camouflages itself with the bench top. Morning Calm is a kitchen that speaks of space and tranquility.

THE COMPANY
16
TONCELLI, A JOURNEY FROM HISTORY TO FUTURE ABOUT
INNOVATION AND DESIGN
Toncelli was founded in 1961, specialising in kitchens in exclusive materials. Strong Tuscan roots, passion and rich history make the company a leader of style and elegance in the Italian market. In 1988 Lorenzo Toncelli entered the company, and went in new directions. The Credenza collection in 1992 represented the first step toward innovation and kitchen design. In just a few years, Lorenzo’s passion for Asia saw the company enter the oriental market. In 2006, he became the guide of the company and saw Toncelli become synonymous with luxury in Tel Aviv, Taipei, Singapore, Shanghai, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and Russia. In 2010 the pure Italian chic of Progetto50 provided the occasion to revisit 50 years of Toncelli history and pay homage to the cabinetmaker’s art. In 2012, materials and mechanics metamorphose into wi-fi and touchscreen, with Prisma.
Research and development are the common factor in Toncelli’s designs, placing Toncelli at the forefront of the international kitchen design sector. The passage from traditional kitchen to contemporary concept kitchens is embodied by unique projects such as the Credenza system, which refines the many made-to-measure models and the unlimited possibilities of tailor-made. Toncelli’s handcrafted designs are also impeccably detailed. Progetto50 shows Toncelli’s interpretation of Made in Italy and innovation: adapting past technological innovations for the present. Today Toncelli dialogues with the future, with the cutting edge Prisma kitchen.
THE WORKSHOP The laboratory is the heart and birthplace of Toncelli’s kitchens. Skilled craftsmanship transforms designs into kitchens, down to the finest details. The finish of the backs, profiles, the invisible seams to open the wall cupboards and the specialised pieces of furniture are the mark of Toncelli manufacturing. Quality is evident in the measured process that each Toncelli article undergoes: slow, delicate, dedicated and attentive. Toncell’s workshop creates tailor-made items, that follow the client’s wishes to the millimetre - 70% of kitchens installed are custom-built. This is unique when it comes to kitchen producers, and Toncelli pursues it with passion and respect for its patrons.
TUSCAN ROOTS Located in the province of Pisa, the heart of Tuscany, Toncelli’s workshop is in Peccioli, overlooking the Era Valley. Tuscany is more than a place - it’s a state of mind, with rich history and tradition that are a continuous source of inspiration. Artists, master craftsmen, and contact with materials, the art of inlaying and the great cabinetmaking school are reflected in the patterns and aesthetics of Toncelli kitchens. Made in Tuscany also reflects the local connections, such as the collaboration with the students of the Giovagnoli di Anghiari art institute, who created motifs inspired by Brunelleschi’s mathematical perspective in Progetto50.
MATERIALS Toncelli design cannot be separated from the choice of prime materials. Cement, the material of the “New Renaissance” of modern design, precious woods such as rosewood, walnut, ebony and olive, and strong, dignified materials such as stone, Arabescato marble and leather. Materials with soul, which evoke Tuscan nature and open wide vistas of creativity. The unique combination of materials and workmanship, such as hand-scored cement and wood, evoke a material and sensuous quality that involves and enchants.
NEW VISION Family, customisation and technology. Toncelli’s Tuscan heart beats with strong family ties, inherited creativity and the impulses of the individual. Lorenzo Toncelli enriched the company vision with a fundamental piece in the creative choices: Asia. The traditions and mysticism of the Far East influence the form and minimalism of Toncelli’s designs today, blending exoticism with the Made in Tuscany philosophy. The new vision is indissolubly linked to craftsmanship and technology, driven by creativity and audacity. Prisma embodies the new Toncelli approach, the perfect synthesis of past, present and future.

INTERVIEW WITH LORENZO TONCELLI
director of Toncelli Kitchens since 2005 At Eurocucina 2010, Toncelli presented Progetto50. A luxury kitchen, with an elegant design and innovative materials. A celebration of 50 years of company history and a tribute to the past. Today, two years later, the company presents Prisma, a high-tech kitchen. What is the line of continuity between Progetto50 and Prisma?
Toncelli has strong roots in the Tuscan earth. Its design is a paradigm of elegance, typical of Italian manufacturing, although it also has an international element. Where does the exotic feel of Toncelli’s kitchens come from? This element comes from the passion for the Orient that I developed over twenty years of travel, and from the need to broaden horizons both personally and for the company. Twenty years ago I was introduced to the Far East, and then the Middle East and Russia. This deep knowledge of these places produced a kind of creative contamination. Undoubtedly, the new trends and many stylistic experiments and designs originate in Asia, where creativity has no limits or limitations. These countries, the beauty of their customs, the practices that are so different from ours, and the mysticism that pervades the spaces, people and actions are sources of creative inspiration, but also of important and enduring collaborations. For example, one of the kitchens that we are presenting at Eurocucina 2012 is Morning Calm. This is a kitchen that Toncelli designed for Nefs, our Korean partner of 12 years. Here, we wanted to express the lines of Korean design, a return to the origins of this country, which anciently was called “the land of the morning calm”. The international element of our company is demonstrated in our collaboration with Experientia, a user experience design agency in Turin, but with an international team. Together, we have realised the Prisma kitchen.
Progetto50 and Prisma are two faces of the same vision: our passion for technology, and our intention to make it current and tangible in every kitchen, through master worksmanship in the Tuscan artisan tradition. They are the result of work from a company with just one identity and great flexibility.
Which characteristics define the ideal Toncelli client?
The Eurocucina 2012 stand is expressed in a minimalist language, extremely modern and technical. What led you to these choices?
The ideal Toncelli client shares our point of view on the environments in which we live, by which I also mean the places we come from. This attitude contributes to the growth of our company and allows us to anticipate not just the trends, but also and above all, the desires of our clients.
The stand clearly reflects the new approach that we have chosen to present our kitchens this year. Essential, technological communication, in which images and design express more than words. In the same way, Toncelli’s Eurocucina 2012 space is dominated by technical materials, such as perforated metal sheets that create a see-through, almost strobe-light effect, faceted surfaces, the canvas covers of the stand, the lights, the Toncelli red, and white. It’s a purely expositional space, in which the kitchens are elevated to works of art. And while this year a display offers a preview of Prisma to all the Fair visitors, only those who register will experience a guided tour along a path that follows a linear time-line, from the kitchens inspired by the past, to Progetto 50, with its unbridled and even more contemporary design, and on to Prisma, a futuristic jewel.
