2013 Fitness Challenge Hosted By TNL CrossFit Tampa By Alexis Selby If you’ve got what it takes to compete and are ready for the ultimate fitness experience, join TNL CrossFit Tampa for their 2013 Fitness Challenge and find out what you are truly made of. At TNL CrossFit Tampa they believe that being fit means being able to do well across a variety of different physical tests. As such, they’ve designed a competition that tests people for all-around skills. This is your chance to be labeled as one of Tampa Bay’s Fittest Athletes! The Fitness Challenge will incorporate standard CrossFit movements in workouts that will be selected to test the strength, endurance and skills of the athletes. Following the regular events, they will hold a final event for the top male and female finishers to find out who really is the fittest in Tampa Bay. The three to five individual events will be announced one week prior to the Challenge so keep posted for a detailed schedule by visiting www.TNLTampa.com.

Proceeds from the event will go to the Westchase Charitable Foundation, a nonprofit public charity that raises money to support families who have either children or parents battling a serious illness and assists people in the community and beyond who are faced with a family tragedy. So in addition to getting a great workout, you are also helping support a wonderful cause. The Fitness Challenge will consist of three divisions. The RX Division is the most difficult of the three and is for top athletes who are able to do every named workout Rx’d (the hardest level of each workout). TNL CrossFit Tampa encourages most athletes to enter this division, as the top female and male finisher will be awarded $750. The Masters Division is for participants who are 40 years of age or older. The events in this division will also be scaled for every 5 years and a cash prize of $250 will go to the top female and male finisher. The third division is the Scaled Division and is for participants who scale their workouts to a lower level about half the time.

Westchase Area Neighborhood News

Events in this division will be scaled from the Rx division and approached like the CrossFit Games’ open workouts. In the Scaled Division any and all CrossFitters are welcome and the top female and male finisher will receive $150. TNL CrossFit Tampa will describe the scoring in more detail when the events are announced. The event is open to the public, so everyone is invited to come out and cheer on the athletes, where there will be plenty of vendors and lots of fun and activities. The Challenge will take place at 8 a.m. on Saturday, January 26 at Alonzo High School, located at 8302 Montague Street in Tampa. The cost is $75 per athlete so if you think you got what it takes, register for the event online at www.TNLTampa.com or give them a call at (813) 749-0864. Each division requires you to meet certain athletic standards to enter so please visit their website or give them a call to get more information or to view a list of their requirements.

Forget The Napkins, LLC – Bringing Families Together Around the Dinner Table! By Alexis Selby In today’s busy world, spending quality time with family is often pushed to the wayside and more and more, families are opting for the “quick” and “easy” option of fast food as opposed to a delicious homecooked meal. This rapid onset of fast food chains and the availability of quick-cook and ready-cooked meals unfortunately have made cooking at home less of a choice and more of a chore – leading to less time spent with family and poorer diets among both children and adults.

sion for food,” says Erin. “In our hectic world, we often miss precious opportunities to spend time with our loved ones. Forget the Napkins has the family as the foundation for exploring new recipes, and preparing and presenting meals in the presence of those you cherish the most. I like to emphasize the importance of family and spending quality time with each other. My business centers around getting family members back around the dinner table.” Erin is currently a Culinary Arts Instructor at Farnell Middle School in Westchase and has been teaching

never knew that one day the two would come together.” Over the years, our need to eat has developed from a basic form of simply fueling our bodies to an elaborate art of presentation and taste, and the ever-increasing divergence of foods that are now available give us endless opportunities for new culinary experiments and delights. For those new to cooking, this can be quite overwhelming, but with the help of a culinary expert, such as Erin, one can easily be familiarized with cooking techniques and new recipes, and be comfortable in the kitchen within no time. Forget The Napkins is ideal for people of all cooking levels, whether you are new to the kitchen and wanting to learn some cooking basics or an experienced cook looking to add some flavor and flair to your cooking repertoire. Erin comes to you in the

comfort of your own home and provides you and your loved ones with exceptional private culinary lessons and all the necessary means to create an awe-inspiring meal! When you order a package from Forget The Napkins it is an all-inclusive price and Erin takes care of all the extra work for you – including providing the recipes, buying all the required groceries and bringing any necessary cooking utensils and equipment that you don’t have. Each lesson is approximately 2-3 hours and includes step-by-step assistance in preparing the selected appetizer, entrée and dessert of your choice, as well as useful tips on how to multitask in the kitchen. Erin also offers special mini-lessons for those who want to keep it simple. Erin likes to take a hands-on approach to preparing dinner and likes to get all family members involved in

Using her experience as a teacher and expertise in culinary arts, Erin founded Forget The Napkins, a wonderful business offering private inhome culinary lessons and event catering. “The concept of Forget the Napkins was inspired by my middle school culinary students and my pas-

the food preparation process. This allows the family to work together as a team to accomplish a goal – a deliciously prepared meal. But, if you would prefer to just watch, that is fine too. “I let my clients decide the type of experience they want to get,” says Erin. Following the lesson, Erin gives you take-home copies of the recipe(s) for your record, along with a list of ingredients and easy-to-follow instructions, so you can easily replicate dishes for future dinners. Erin hand-selects all the recipes on her menu, a majority of which are her own tasty creations, specially designed and adapted from her many years of experience cooking with her mom. “When it comes to the food I prepare, my mom has been my main inspiration,” says Erin. If there is something you wish to prepare, but do no see it on the menu, there is no need to worry because in addition to all fare on the menu, Erin is able to prepare any other recipe requested. “My experience goes well beyond the menu,” states Erin “so I am willing and able to prepare any special request that you don’t see on my menu.” Over the past few years Erin has become well-acquainted with many chefs in the area, and seeing their success has really motivated her to follow her dreams. Chef Rob Wickner from the restaurant Catch 23 has been a prominent influence in her life and serves as another major inspiration for many of her dishes. Nutrition plays an important role at Forget The Napkins. Erin is adamant about healthy cooking and uses only the freshest ingredients. She likes to stay away from processed

Erin takes a hands-on approach to preparing dinner and likes to get all family members involved in the food preparation process. foods, opting for fresh herbs and produce from local markets. Forget The Napkins’ private culinary lessons are a perfect idea for a romantic date night, as you and your loved come together in the kitchen for some interactive fun as you prepare a magical meal. The lessons are also a great idea if you want to surprise your loved one or family with a delicious home-cooked meal when they get home from a busy day.

My Experience With Forget The Napkins I had such a wonderful experience when Erin did a private culinary lesson with my family. Erin is so friendly and is really easy to work with. Before coming, instead of picking the courses ourselves, we asked Erin to surprise us with a few of her favorites. For the appetizer she chose the Freshtastic Tomato Basil Bruschetta, made with freshly diced Roma Tomatoes and baked to a

crispy perfection. The entrée consisted of the flavorful Sassy But Classy Honey Balsamic Chicken, accompanied by oven roasted Parmesan asparagus and penne pasta. For dessert we made pumpkin chocolate chip cookies – my new favorite! Erin helped delegate the duties, and together we prepared the meal, working as a group to create each delicious course. Erin definitely brought fun into the kitchen and it was really nice to have the whole family together in not only the food preparation process, but at the dinner table as well. Erin provided us with an exciting hands-on learning experience and taught us some great new techniques for preparing food. But as fun as it was preparing the food, I have to admit, my favorite part of the night was the part where we sat down for a delicious homecooked meal. Simply put – her recipes were amazing and each course came out perfectly!

Erin also offers event catering and can specially cater small weddings, bridal showers, cocktail parties and other important events. This service is not like regular catering, where caterers bring already-prepared dishes, but is an extra-special catering experience where guests can interact and watch the cooking process. For these events Erin will often bring a couple of her Culinary Arts students so they can get handson experience as they cook for you on-site. Research has shown that children who eat frequent meals with their family around the dinner table have healthier diets than those who regularly watch television during meals and frequently eat out. By making dinner time a family event, it not only opens the line for better parent-child communications – which is extremely important in child development – but also encourages a healthy attitude towards eating. With our hectic lifestyles, where work has become more time-consuming and family members spend less time together, we often forget about one of the most important things in life – spending quality time with our family. Forget The Napkins utilizes such a great concept and helps you to leave behind this hustle and bustle of daily life and get together and reconnect with family over a masterfully prepared meal. For more information or to schedule a lesson or catered event please call Erin at (813) 294-3007 or email her at E.Aldrich@Live.com. members ready to help you accomplish your goals of becoming the best possible athlete. Owner Eric Stratman has been active in the fitness industry for the past 23 years, getting his first personal training certification at the age of 17. He was introduced to CrossFit through a friend over six years ago and was intrigued by the theories and the basis for which the program was founded. Eric says, “I agreed to try CrossFit and I never turned back!” Soon after, Eric opened his first CrossFit training facility

Translating to all aspect of your life, CrossFit is an all-encompassing high-intensity workout model that focuses on the utilization of functional movement – movement that is used on a day-to-day basis. By emphasizing these important movements you develop better core strength, stamina, coordination, agility, and balance; which will not only make you a better athlete, but will also help you to move more efficiently and prevent injuries in your everyday life. CrossFit is a whole body workout that stimulates your body’s metabolic and cardiovascular system to increase your overall fitness, physique and health. Eric says, “We take the vanity out of working out and put less focus on trying to ‘look’ and more on actually ‘becoming’ fit.” The best part about CrossFit is that anyone can do it, regardless of their age, skill level or athletic ability, because at TNL CrossFit Tampa each exercise is specially designed so that it can be scaled to meet individual capabilities, and each workout is led by cer-

tified CrossFit instructors who help you with any questions you might have and encourage you every step of the way. The instructors focus on your individual needs and help you modify your workout to best meet your overall fitness goals. “We emphasize the importance of competing against yourself to become the better you,” says Eric. “The idea of CrossFit is to listen to your body and to find out what you are capable of, and to hold yourself accountable for your own health.”

Routine Is The Enemy At TNL Crossfit Tampa they believe routine is the enemy, which is why they offer a ton of variety in their exercise programs and each day they showcase a different instructor-led workout, known as the Workout of The Day (WOD). So each day when you come in, you never know what challenge to expect. TNL CrossFit Tampa has a very flexible class schedule, and offers the featured WOD up to 13 times a day, from 5:15 a.m. until 7 p.m. The WODs are specifically designed to incorporate many different muscle groups and activities into your daily workout routine and help you to become a well-rounded athlete. Eric says, “We have a passion for our athletes and our clients. We are very particular with

CrossFit For Kids New to TNL CrossFit Tampa, CrossFit For Kids is an awesome program specially designed for kids ages 416. Based on the same model as with their adult classes, CrossFit For Kids is a game-based program that incorporates coordination, nutrition, conditioning and stamina in an easy-to-follow format that makes exercising fun.

My Experience With TNL CrossFit Tampa

The expert trainers at TNL CrossFit Tampa do an exceptional job of explaining every workout and will support you every step of the way to help you accomplish your goals of becoming the best possible athlete. our workouts because we want to see our members excel in everything they do. We don’t just want them to be phenomenal at one thing; we want them to be great at everything!” In addition, the instructors stress the importance of

maintaining a healthy lifestyle through good nutrition and proper eating habits and offer complimentary nutrition guides to all of their clients. “We take away every excuse you can think of as to why you can’t work

out,” states Eric. “You don’t know how to do a particular exercise – no problem, because there is always an instructor here to help you. You feel like you have become stagnant in your progress at another gym – at TNL we offer different workouts every day so your body is always doing something new. You want variety in your work-outs – we offer 365 different classes a year so you never get the exact same work-out twice. You don’t have time in your busy schedule – we offer as many as 13 classes a day and hold classes every hour (except for 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.) throughout the day.”

The Community Effect Of CrossFit TNL CrossFit Tampa is more than just an elite training facility; it is a community, because when you join you immediately become a part of the CrossFit team. Each class is taught as a group, so together you and your new teammates push one another every step of the way. This encourages consistency, which is extremely difficult to find in other programs. “This is a community,” states Eric; “a place where everybody encourages each other to become better.” TNL CrossFit Tampa also has a huge online community, which serves as a great way to meet new members and track your WODs. To encourage constant improvement Eric has developed a software program, including graphs, measurements and workout times, which allows you to track your progress on each WOD and measure Westchase Area Neighborhood News

My husband and I are both really into fitness and had heard about CrossFit before. We were always interested in taking a CrossFit class, so after meeting with Eric we decided to give it a try. After the first class we were hooked! The workout was amazing and pushed me harder than I ever thought possible. Everybody was so welcoming and friendly and although it was our first class, we had no problem learning the exercises, because the instructors were so helpful and showed us precisely how to perform each movement properly. I really enjoyed the sense of comradery, and even though we were new, we fit right in. Since then, both my husband and I have joined TNL CrossFit Tampa and we have already begun to see results! “We love the program at TNL,” state members John and Larissa Long. “Every workout is different. That’s what we like most. When you come in you never know what workout you are going to get. We also like how you always know exactly what to do, because everything is spelled out for you. There is no guesswork. CrossFit is perfect for all skill levels and the community atmosphere here is so great.” When it comes to CrossFit you are in control of the workout you want to get and you determine how hard you are going to push yourself. You are the one setting your own goals, and you are the one responsible for achieving them. So if you are ready to take control of your health and experience measurable, real results come in to TNL CrossFit Tampa and take your fitness to the nest level! TNL CrossFit Tampa is located at 12720 Dupont Circle in Tampa. They offer regular classes every hour, Mon. – Thurs from 5:15 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Fri. from 5:15 a.m. – 6 p.m.; and Sat. at 8, 9 and 10 a.m. They also offer an Olympic lifting class Tues. - Thurs from 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. For more information please call (813) 749-0864 or visit www.TNLTampa.com.

MLS Laser Therapy at Sheldon Road Chiropractic Provides Powerful Pain Relief! By Marcy Sanford I have had plantar fasciitis in my feet for almost three years now. Sometimes when I stand up I feel like rocks are being shoved into my heel. The worst is when I try to run after my daughter and can’t due to pain. I have tried ice, heat, massage, physical therapy, cortisone shots and lots and lots of anti-inflammatory medicine. Nothing had worked, so finally I decided I needed to accept that I was going to always have some foot pain; that is until I visited George A. Kollias, D.C. at Sheldon Road Chiropractic & Massage Therapy. Dr. Kollias performed the laser therapy on my foot and after one treatment the pain was greatly reduced. The treatment was completely painless and only took about five minutes. If you suffer from pain due to tendonitis, neck and back issues, shoulder irritation, rotator cuff problems, bursitis, plantar fasciitis, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, sprains, strains or inflammation, I highly recommend you visit Dr. Kollias to see if MLS Laser Therapy can help you. Many of his patients who have experienced little or no response from medications or other types of therapies, have had great success in overcoming their pain and healing their injuries as a result of MLS Laser Therapy treatment. Dr. Kollias explains that, “MLS Laser Therapy painlessly and safely reduces inflammation, stimulating healing of injured muscles and joints and

shortening recovery times”. Dr. Kollias first became interested in laser therapy when he suffered a shoulder injury. “Several years ago I injured my shoulder at work. The pain was so bad that I could not continue working; It was so bad that I had to hire another chiropractor to treat my patients. I tried every treatment I could think of – anti-inflammatory medication, physical therapy and massage – without any success. During this time I attended a chiropractic convention and decided to visit the vendors between sessions to see if anyone had a solution to my pain and immobility. I went from one exhibit to the next, telling vendors that if they could fix my shoulder, I’d buy what they were selling. I had heard of laser therapy before but had been skeptical of the result claims. I decided to I try it for the first time at the convention. At that point, I could barely lift my arm more than a few inches. After the technician used the laser on my shoulder for just a few minutes, I was able to lift my arm almost parallel to the ground. I was impressed and relieved. The next day after another five-minute treatment, I had full range of motion. I bought the laser that day and started using it in my practice the following Monday.” Patient Tom Pirelli turned to Dr. Kollias for help after spending months resting his injured elbow and taking anti-inflammatory medicine. “I had to quit playing golf due to a chronic condition called Golfer’s

newest and most advanced systems available for laser therapy – the M6 Multi Lock Laser Therapy system developed by ASA Laser in Florence Italy. The M6 uses two laser frequencies simultaneously – one to reduce inflammation and the other to reduce pain. The therapy is state-of-the-art and can help injuries heal much quicker than ever before. Patients typically feel some relief after the first visit and many can achieve their treatment goals in as little as six to twelve visits. “Most patients finish their laser treatment feeling pain relief,” says Dr. Kollias. “More importantly, laser helps with stimulating the body’s own ability to heal damaged tissue providing long term results.” If you are suffering from chronic or acute pain, don’t spend months trying to manage it and hoping it will go away – visit Dr. Kollias at Sheldon Road Chiropractic to see if Laser Therapy is right for you. warmed the hearts of the audience with their renditions – ranging from classical to modern, to serious and reverential – in honor of Veterans’ Day. Singers do not know until immediately before the concerts what selections they will be performing, and in the case of the soloists – who will be performing. This is a reality in professional careers and a lesson – always be prepared – that Robert Kn-

That program became a department of All Children’s in 1972. “Today, that relationship is as strong as ever,” adds Dr. Ellen. “The Sertoma Speech & Hearing Foundation and the St. Petersburg Noon Sertoma Club provide continuous philanthropic support for our speech and hearing programs. A tour of the center included information about the advanced therapies and programs in the areas of speech-language pathology, occupational and physical therapy sports medicine, and audiology among others. The center and its programs are supported by numerous sponsors also acknowledged at the event. Hearing Loss is the most common birth defect nationally. The mission of the Sertoma Speech & Hearing Foundation of Florida is to provide quality developmental and rehabilitative services, products and education – primarily to children – throughout Florida, in a caring and compassionate environment; never limited by the ability to pay.

Students can enroll in classes and begin a program at any time. We offer day and evening classes and will work with anyone to accommodate his or her schedule. Some programs only take six weeks to complete and then students will be on their way to a new, successful, and rewarding career.” The Beauty and Health Institute specializes in training students in electrolysis, laser hair removal, medical aesthetics, massage therapy, facial/skin care, permanent makeup and lymphology. In addition to offering many dif-

Deisy is fluent in both English and Spanish. “Years ago, when my mother became interested in learning how to do laser hair removal, she had to travel to Orlando for classes,” says Sunny. “Once she saw how rewarding her new career was, she wanted to help out others in the area and decided to open the Beauty and Health Institute.” The students at the Beauty and Health Institute come from all different backgrounds – from those with no experience in the industry who are looking for a new career, to professionals who want to master a new procedure or continue their education. Keeping Dollars in the Local Economy By Matthew Selby We published this story in our first issue of the Westchase Area Neighborhood News and Lifestyles and with the readership numbers growing every single month we thought it was important to print it again. Our main focus at the Westchase Area Neighborhood News and Lifestyles is to keep dollars in our local economy. It is our mission to provide every single business in the 33626 zip code and beyond with a quality vehicle to promote their business to all of their neighbors – that is why we mail to every home and business in the Westchase area every single month! In today’s rough economy, small local businesses are closing their doors on a daily basis, while many big corporate businesses still have the investors and financial backing to pull through. There is nothing wrong with national companies by any means, but by spending our money in locally owned businesses we can help our local economy flourish instead of decline.

26

JANUARY 2013

When we spend money locally, we contribute to the wellbeing of the entire community. Local businesses build strong vibrant towns, linking neighbors in a web of economic and social relationships. Local ownership ensures that important decisions are made by people who live in the community and thus, will feel the impact of each decision they make directly. Many local businesses recycle excess revenue by giving back to the community in which they live; which enriches the area and creates an even better place to live and love. Locally owned and operated businesses also create jobs and sometimes pay even better than the “big guys.” Competition is not a bad

thing. A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and above all, low prices. For example, there are hundreds of restaurants within any given city, some of which operate right next to each other. This is necessary in a thriving economy. Can you imagine if there was only one type of each business in each town? It would

For Ad Info Call (813) 928-6124 or Visit NeighborhoodNewsFL.com

be a monopoly and the price of a monopolized product would be astronomical! Entrepreneurship is what fuels America’s economic innovation and prosperity and serves as a key means for families to move out of a low paying job and into the middle and upper class. By spending money locally, we are putting money directly back into the community, therefore helping your family, your neighbors and your friends.

The Battle Against ALS – Every Contribution Makes a Difference! By Alexis Selby After moving to the Cheval neighborhood in the beginning of 2011, Gary Dassatti and his wife Barb met a wonderful couple, Doug and Pat McGuiness. Doug has ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease – and has been battling this terrible disease for the past 10 years. He has traveled the world in hopes of finding a cure and has visited China several times for stem cell and lumbar puncture treatments, which have helped to extend his time here. Doug is a fighter and with the help of the ALS Association FL Chapter, hopes to find a cure in the future. Inspired by his story, after meeting Doug and some of the great people at the ALS Association FL Chapter, a national not-for-profit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS, Gary, who had just retired and was looking to do some kind of volunteer work, became involved as a volunteer, fundraiser and advocate for ALS. Just recently, Gary also made a trip to Washington, DC for the annual ALS Advocacy Conference to try and gain more awareness of ALS and to get more funding for these efforts. Gary says, “This conference was a very re-

There were over 500 total Advocates from all over the United States and we had hundreds of meetings with offices of the Senate and Congress to fight for continued funding and more funding to support research.” About ALS ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, is a motor neuron disease that was first described in 1869 by the noted French neurologist Jean-Martin Charcot. It is also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, named after the famous baseball player Lou Gehrig, who first brought national and international attention to the disease in 1939 when he abruptly retired from baseball after being diagnosed with ALS. ALS is a neurodegenerative disease that usually attacks both upper and lower motor neurons and causes degeneration throughout the brain and spinal cord. A common first symptom includes a painless weakness in your hand, foot, arm or leg, which occurs in more than half of all cases. Other early symptoms include speech, swallowing

or walking difficulty. The biological mechanisms that cause ALS are only partially understood and the only known cause of ALS is a mutation of a specific gene – the SOD1 gene. This mutation is believed to make a defective protein that is toxic to motor nerve cells. The SOD1 mutation, however, accounts for only 1 or The ALS Florida Chapter held its annual 2 percent of ALS Ride to Defeat ALS one-day cycling event on Nov. 3 cases, or 20 percent ing seemingly random attacks on previof the familial (inherited) cases. The ALS Association Florida Chapter Established in 1985, The ALS Association is the only national not-forprofit health organization dedicated solely to the fight against ALS. By leading the way in global research, providing assistance for people with ALS through a nationwide network of chapters, coordinating multidisciplinary care through certified clinical care centers, and fostering government partnerships, The Association builds hope and enhances quality of life while aggressively searching for new treatments and a cure. The ALS Association Florida Chapter was co-founded by patient Ann Smith in August of 1987 as the Tampa Bay Chapter, in hopes of serving the needs of those living with ALS and their caregivers in the Tampa Bay Area. After expanding its services to all areas in the state of Florida in 2001, it became known as the Florida Chapter and now services the entire state. This chapter carries out its mission by empowering the lives of those living with ALS through care, advocacy, research, education and support. Their programs include support groups, case management, respite care, medical equipment loans, educational services, and national and state advocacy. Throughout the year the ALS Association FL Chapter holds many

fundraising events, including their annual Ride to Defeat ALS. Annual Ride to Defeat ALS The first annual event, the Tour de Vie 2009, was headed by Shelly Reale after ALS devastated her family with her mother’s diagnosis, as a way to give meaning to her mother’s difficult journey. This event yielded more than 200 riders and raised over $53,000 and due to its huge success, became an annual tradition. In 2010, the ALS Florida Chapter decided to change the event’s name to “Ride to Defeat ALS” which clearly defines their ultimate mission – a world without ALS! On November 3rd the ALS Florida Chapter held their annual Ride to Defeat ALS, a one-day cycling event designed to appeal to every level of rider – offering a 62-mile route, a 25mile route, and a 5-mile Family Fun Ride, which is presented by United Seating & Mobility. This ride is an exciting opportunity for everyone to work together to support those affected by Lou Gehrig’s Disease and to spread awareness of the urgency to find treatments and a cure. All-in-all the ride was a huge success and contributions for that day totaled over $240,000! Throughout the ride, every participant can count on support from start to finish with crew-manned rest stops,

Westchase Area Neighborhood News

SAG vehicles, and a safety team. Upon completing the tour, riders are welcomed back by cheering crowds and finish line festivities that include entertainment, complimentary massages, a healthy lunch, and exciting demos. This past race was a huge success. “The response from people was so great last year and I look forward to even better fundraising this year,” says Gary. It is because of caring, dedicated people like Gary and persistent fighters like Doug, that the ALS Association is possible. Over the past few decades, the ALS Association has committed more than $67 million to finding effective treatments and a cure for ALS and their

global research effort has helped increase the number of scientists working on ALS, advanced new discoveries and treatments, and has shed light on the complex genetic and environmental factors involved in ALS. But the fight is not over, and for the ALS Association to continue their search for a cure to this terrible disease, vital funding is needed. With your support, together we can one day defeat ALS for good! For more information on the ALS Association Florida Chapter or to make a donation please visit their website at www.ALSAFL.org or their Facebook page.
