This Year Get in the Zone at Zone Fitness Club By Julie Kanehl Introducing the brand new, first of its kind, Zone Fitness Club, located at 1252 Seven Springs Boulevard where everyone gets results. Why? I’ll cut to the chase because I have a feeling that you think you’ve heard it all before. Guess what, this is different. This is awesome. This is science! This is a fitness club for everyone, whether you’ve never worked out before, or you’ve been an athlete your whole life. So you’re thinking, how can one fitness club claim to be for everyone and yet give everyone unique results? That’s the science of Zone Fitness. Then, what if I mentioned that there aren’t any contracts to sign? No long-term obligations? Okay, so you’d be interested, right? What if I told you that the cost was only $15 per month? I’ll tell you what I’m doing, I’m signing up! I’m going to preface this story by saying that for years I was one of those people who wrote “LOSE WEIGHT” and “GET IN SHAPE” at the top of my New Year’s Resolution list. I talked

10

about it. I complained about it. I suffered. I had given up. I was never going to be “cute” or “in shape” again. Those days were “over” for me. I’d hear myself saying, “If you see me running, you better run too,” and I’d laugh louder than anyone around me so that I wouldn’t show my embarrassment. Then I’d say, “Oh, I’d work out, but my back, neck etc…” I even had a sign in my kitchen that said, “There’s a skinny girl inside me, but I can usually shut her up with cookies!” Then a very close friend said something to me that really changed my life. She said, “When you’re ready, you will. That’s it. You have to decide to make a change. It won’t be overnight, but it will happen if you decide to value yourself as much as you value everyone else.” She was right. That was almost 50 pounds ago. Right now, I’m in better shape than I was when I got married. Was it easy? No. Was it instant? No. It took time and dedication, and a little sacrifice, but I did it. Guess what? If I can do it, you can do it! And with a place like

Zone Fitness Club in your arsenal, you are literally guaranteed results. So, am I done? No way, you know what I’m going to do next? I’m joining Zone Fitness Club! I’ll tell you why: It’s affordable, it’s convenient, and most importantly, it’s the first club of its kind to put me into a personal zone of fitness. I’m not talking about just chatting about my body mass index with some sweaty guy in a tank top and filling out a survey. I’m talking about a fitness club that offers the ability to monitor my heart rate, my fitness levels and to even help me challenge myself within my zone, so that I’m not comparing my workout with anyone else’s! Why?

JANUARY 2014

Their zone is going to be completely different from mine, and when I’m in my zone, I know I’ll be seeing results, because it means that my body will be working out at just the right amount for my own goals. That means I won’t burn out, and I won’t give up! That’s why they can guarantee results. Your zone is for you and for you only, and the club is designed to facilitate you at every level. If you want to work independently-you’ve got it. If you love the motivation that a class gives you, you can do that! So you, yes - you, will lose weight, get in better shape, flatten that tummy, tone those arms and feel better inside and out when you join the new Zone Fitness Club.

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

The Details: The Zone Fitness Club has over 42 pieces of state-of-the-art cardio equipment, as well as free weights, TRX Training equipment, abdominal equipment, and the club functions a lot like a cross-fit circuit. There’s really something for everyone, and you don’t have to live there to see results! Zone Fitness Club is privately owned and operated, and staffed by people who are specifically trained in fitness, so that everyone on the staff can help you achieve your goals and offer a level of service that is unparalleled. Zone Fitness Club also offers “executive style” locker rooms, which means, you can feel comfortable hitting the showers after your workout and getting back to work, school, and life! The Science of the Zone The President and Founder of Zone Fitness Clubs is Tim Forrest, who has 20 years of experience in the fitness industry, and who until recently was the VP of Sales and Operations for a company that ran 18 clubs in 7 states. His experience has helped him to see where the fitness industry is trending and to custom-create a club

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

of his own that would blend the newest workout technology with the customer service standard that he feels makes or breaks any workout facility. He says, “Our mission is to make it affordable and to make it easy so you can get fit and you won’t quit.” He adds, “I wanted an affordable membership, a motivating environment and a way to connect to my members. The Zone Fitness Club knocks down those walls of age, weight and gender, because everyone is working at the right zone for their body.” Forrest believes that when you put every member into their own personal zone, it creates an enjoyable, less intimidating environment. It takes away that competitive environment that keeps people away from the gym. If you are not afraid of the gym, but feel like you’ve been there, done that, you’re going to love this, because it helps you to regain momentum and capture exactly the kind of activity that your body needs to start making progress again. As you get more fit, your zone changes! He says, “The reason why people stop losing weight when they exercise is because they plateau. Our heart-rate

training will help you get over that hump.” Here’s how it works: Members purchase a comfortable MYZONE Physical Activity Belt that, when worn, monitors physical activity done both in and out of the club and stores that information. Members can log in and see their activity from anywhere, and can participate in challenges based on their physical activity, measure results and achieve goals. This way, your fitness goals are completely your own, because the technology is a part of the workout, giving you the chance to monitor your heart’s rate and intensity. This makes your workout safe, and to be honest, it’s exciting to see your results. This is the science part! This heart-rate, training based fitness program helps your body to work smarter, instead of harder so you won’t burn out, you’ll just burn fat! Forrest explains, “When your heart rate is in its zone for a period of 12-20 minutes, your body will work like a furnace, which means that even when you are done working out, your body will still be burning fat.” Let me be clear, you don’t have to be out of your comfort zone to get into the zone. Your workout will be completely customized to you by a certified fitness trainer. Then, when you sign up for one of their Zone Fitness Classes, which are classes made up 10-12 people, you’ll get the chance to work out in a group setting while still meeting your own personal goals. This can be fun and motivating, but most importantly, the classes help you get and stay in your zone. Forrest is so sure that you’ll see results that it’s guaranteed. He says, “If you work out 3 times a week for a month performing the ZONE Workout and you don’t see results, I’ll refund you the whole cost for your sessions for the month. I’m so confi-

dent that our program will change your body.” Now is the science part required? No! If you’re just looking for a beautiful new club to join, where the equipment is brand-spanking new, the membership fees are incredibly affordable and it’s run by experienced staff, then head on over! The MYZONE belt is completely optional! There’s More? Affordable? Check! Fun? Check! No Contract? Check! Kid Zone? CHECK! If you’re a busy parent like me, you’ll be so happy to learn that Zone Fitness Club offers a Kid Zone that helps keep kids in their own creativity zone while you’re getting in your workout! You do not have to choose between being fit and being a good parent! These kid-focused, hands-on activities will make your kids actually want to go the Zone Fitness Club with you! When you compare clubs that offer childcare in the area, their monthly fees are nearly 3 times more expensive, and they don’t offer the technology, the science, or the guarantee, so what are you waiting for? Go check out the brand new Zone Fitness Club and make this year YOUR year. You can do it, Zone Fitness Club will show you how. Zone Fitness Club is located in the Chelsea Place Plaza at 1252 Seven Springs Blvd. in New Port Richey, just minutes away from Trinity, East Lake, Tarpon Springs and Odessa. Zone Fitness Club is open Mon.–Thurs., 5 a.m.–11 p.m.; 5 a.m.–10 p.m. on Fri.; 8 a.m.–8 p.m. on Sat.; and from 8 a.m.–7 p.m. on Sun. Penguin Pretzel Factory - “What’s In Your Pretzel?” By Katie Thomas Nothing quite compares to the comfort of a fresh, hand-twisted, baked-to-perfection, heaven-in-yourmouth pretzel, especially when stuffed with unique and delicious fillings! Penguin Pretzel Factory in Trinity is located on Old County Road 54 and serves up the best piping hot pretzels to hit the Tampa Bay area. Made with love; these pretzels are much more than a snack and the many varieties are sure to warm your heart, fill your belly and put a smile on your face! Penguin Pretzel Factory opened its Trinity storefront last August to offer locals a place to satiate their soft pretzel cravings. Owners Nick and Suzi run the family business with their kids and welcome the community to come fall in love with the mouth-watering creations they bake fresh daily! Suzi says. “We were working in the food business for a very long time before we started Penguin Pretzels. We moved to the Trinity area and realized that our family was not spending enough quality time together because

14

Nick had to travel all the time for work. Life happens and brings you in different directions; luckily we have all moved forward to share our lifelong love of food with the community.” Penguin Pretzel Factory came to be after Nick and Suzi decided that they needed something new; a fresh start of sorts. One morning Suzi jumped out of bed craving a hot, doughy pretzel so she drew upon her culinary genius and whipped a few batches up in the kitchen. “Everyone loved them,” says Suzi. “It took me awhile to perfect our famously moist, yet not too greasy twist but once we found a product that we absolutely loved, we decided to go with it and Nick went out to promote our newest adventure.” Nick set out to find places to allow Penguin Pretzel Factory to sell their baked goods out of their kiosks. He got in with MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) and Busch Gardens for special events. You may have already sampled one of Penguin Pretzel Factory’s fantastic creations at MOSI or Busch gardens during one of

their special exhibits. The Penguin Pretzel Factory family was excited to get into MOSI and share their twisted delicacies with the world! Once these pretzels were introduced to the public, business began growing and the pretzel making crew found many of their customers begging to know where they could Penguin Pretzels are hand-twisted & baked fresh buy their favorite treats daily in this family-owned business. outside of MOSI and our dough with different fillings. Our business aspirations are to expand throughout the entire Tampa Bay area as your local, go-to pretzel bakery!” After sampling their fantastic, perfectly baked, not too greasy, soft and warm pretzels, I would say the Penguin Pretzel Factory family is well on their way to continued success! Nothing Beats a Pretzel from Penguin! Upon entering Penguin Pretzel Factory your senses are immediately greeted with a heavenly smell – a burst of simple, delicious, yummy fragrance that immediately leaves your mouth watering. Fresh dough is made every morning before sunrise by Nick himself in the Penguin Pretzel Factory kitchen. When the doors open, the family is diligently working together to twist, hand-roll, hand-stuff and create your favorite treat. “Nothing here comes out of a box,” says Nick. “We mix our own dough, make our own dipping sauces and mix up all our own stuffing ingredients from scratch!” The restaurant itself is open, airy and bright, and customers can see right back into the kitchen where the magic happens! “We want our customers to see us

making our pretzels,” says Nick. “They can come in and watch us beat the dough, shape it, stuff it and put it out for display. All the kids are involved in one way or another. Our family has really made this fun and exciting. We really just want to share the joy we are experiencing here with the community.” Since everything is made inhouse, fresh-to-order daily, you can trust that you are receiving the freshest twisted or stuffed doughy treat around. I was able to sample a few of Penguin Pretzel Factory’s customer favorites and let me tell you, these babies really do hit the spot. The warmth of the soft dough makes you feel good all over and when filled with an original Penguin Pretzel Factory stuffingyou will be hooked! I sampled an all-time favorite, the Feta and Spinach stuffed pretzel. The dough was buttered to perfection with the right amount of garlic and stuffed inside with a fresh feta cheese and spinach combination that kicks any old regular spinach pie out of the competition! Served with a cucumber and dill dipping sauce, this savory feta and spinach stuffed pretzel had my taste buds doing the happy dance! Nick and Suzi sent me home with a classic, salted twist pretzel and a cinnamon

sugar twist that were both served with different dips, including hot cheese and a splendidly sweet cream cheese sauce. Privately owned and operated, Aquafinz has the freedom, the experience and the capability to create culinary experiences, prepare dishes upon request and even create a special menu for you and your guests during a private party. From fun food like burgers, sandwiches and appetizers, to the freshest seafood available, including salmon, grouper, snow crab, Dungeness crab and even Maine lobster tails, Aquafinz offers guests a familyfriendly, yet sophisticated dining experience, that will change the way you look at going out to eat. Owned by Angela Madonia, Aquafinz is managed by Tom Perkins, Chip Roehl, Jerry Argento and award-

winning Executive Chef, Lenny Terlaje, who stepped in to revamp Aquafinz in late 2013. Each of them came to Aquafinz with a passion to create a restaurant that would be a cut above the rest, with the commitment to be hospitable and personal in a way that an ordinary chain restaurant wouldn’t have the capability of doing. This dynamic team of professionals has more than a century of food service experience, but it’s their dedication to serving fresh, great tasting food coupled with outstanding service that sets them apart. Chip says, “We want to offer our guests better, chef-driven food that shows our culinary and hospitality skills.” The majority of the staff at Aquafinz comes from Tampa Bay favorite, Splash! An Ocean Grill, which was wildly successful for 12 years before closing its doors over a landlord dispute. While many Tampa Bay foodies lamented the end of an age, a new course has begun here at Aquafinz, and their executive chef, Terlaje, who was a chef at Splash for 10 years, brought many of those delicious

Seafood lovers and steak lovers alike will love the chef’s delectable creations at Aquafinz Seafood & Steakhouse The menu is decidedly surf & turf, with mouthwatering options like their famous lobster bisque, and their crab cakes, which I can personally recommend. (My husband and I fought over the last bite of both.) One of the “Finz Specialties” includes a Lobster Shrimp and Scallop Pasta, which features lobster meat, gulf shrimp and bay scallops in a light, delicate seafood broth tossed with angel hair pasta. Or perhaps you’d prefer their Seafood Cioppino, which is served with fresh fish, mussels, shrimp and scallops with a crab cluster in a spicy red sauce served over pasta. From fish and chips, to their popular grouper and salmon entrées, the seafood is not to be missed. If you’re more turf than surf,

you’ve got to try their Rib Eye Steak, London Broil topped with homemade Béarnaise sauce, Filet Mignon and their Prime Rib. Equally delicious, juicy and cooked just the way you like it; Aquafinz is a great place to come for a steak. Open for dinner seven-days-aweek, the nightly specials are extremely popular with locals. Monday’s special is $8 Shrimp Scampi, while Tuesday is “Steak Night” (with 4 steaks under $15!), Wednesday is Chef’s Choice and Thursday features their St. Louis Cut full rack of ribs. Friday is Steak Oscar, which is Filet Mignon, fire grilled and served on a bed of asparagus, then topped with a giant lump of Maryland crab and Béarnaise sauce.

Saturday is perfect for a big night out with someone special, because at Aquafinz, Saturday night is Prime Rib and Lobster for only $22. That’s an incredible, even memorable meal, at an affordable price. Sunday is a great day to go out to eat, because it’s allyou-can-eat fish and chips that night, prepared with New England cod. If you have special dietary needs or preferences, Aquafinz is an excellent choice. They have gone above-and-beyond to anticipate the needs of their customers by indicating gluten-free items and offering various options to make dishes gluten-free. Terlaje says, “If I can make it, you can have it.” Smiling, he says, “I take special requests.” Aquafinz also offers a variety of

drink specials from their full-liquor bar featuring beer, wine, signature martinis and cocktails. You’ll want to try their “Linky Dinky After Dinner Drinky” and their popular Cherry or Watermelon Mojitos. Aquafinz is a great place to grab a drink, whether it’s an “after dinner drinky” or just for “sips and apps.” If you’re looking for a dining experience that is out of the ordinary, offering fresh food with a staff that will remember your name, come visit Aquafinz Seafood & Steakhouse on State Road 54 for fine dining the whole family can enjoy. Mely Nail Spa Pampers You with the Latest Styles By Dara Tucker One of the hottest trends in fashion accessories right now isn’t jewelry, but nails. Whether you’re looking at Pinterest, Etsy, or just walking through the mall, you’ll notice polish has become more than just color on your nail. Ombre, glitter, three-dimensional art, and matte polishes are only some of the latest popular styles. Mely Nail Spa, located in Oak Ridge Plaza at 2333 Seven Springs Boulevard (near Fairway Pizza Too) can create these hot styles on your natural nails, acrylics, shellac, or Bio Seaweed Gel. Mely Nail Spa also offers pedicures and waxing services. When you first arrive at Mely Nail Spa you’ll be greeted by the owner herself, Mely, or her longtime work partner Reva. Mely worked as a nail technician at another nail salon for five years with Reva prior to opening her own nail spa four years ago. When you’re at the nail spa it’s easy to see both women enjoy their job, but they devote their attention to you as the customer, instead making you feel like

you’re an uncomfortable outsider. The nail spa is very clean, with pedicure stations with the ultimate in relaxation as you’re being pampered – massage chairs. You can choose from three different types of pedicures at Mely Nail Spa. The hot stone pedicure, which is only $18 or $25 for manicure and pedicure, allows you to soak your toes, have your polish removed, cuticles cut, feet cleaned, and calluses removed (with a safer liquid instead of a metal abrasion tool). Warm lotion is then applied, along with stones that are put in a warmer with relaxing menthol oils. You’re feet are then rehydrated with a cool lotion and polished. A deluxe pedicure includes all of the above with a sugar scrub to your knee, mask, and then a hot towel wrap. The Botanical Escapes Herbal pedicure mixes the joy of relaxation with a mix of different herbal combinations that are best for you. Mely has a menu of different popular herbal mixes for her clients to look through including stress relief with a relaxing lavender and chamomile soak, gentle

Chrissy Gatlin of Trinity was a client of Mely’s for years when she worked at a former nail spa. As soon as Chrissy found Mely’s own store she once again became a loyal client, being a regular for the past three and a half years. Chrissy explains that going to Mely’s is a family affair, “Not only do I go to Mely’s but my mother, daughter, and my ex-husband’s wife all go there! Mely gives the most amazing pedicures I’ve ever had. The massages and hot stones will knock your socks off. It’s always clean; it’s a really social, fun time. Taso Italiano – There is History Behind That Sauce! By Lenay Ruhl Surrounded by a lifetime of family history in the restaurant business, Taso Stassi welcomes customers into Taso Italiano as if he is inviting them into his own home. The aroma of freshly cooked Italian food overwhelms the senses upon entering the restaurant. There is an instant warmth, with family photos scattered upon the walls revealing Taso and his father’s culinary history and their experience in bringing people together with food. I saw Taso through the open bar which leads into the kitchen, evidence of a day’s work on his chef’s coat. Customers lingered, chatting with staff. It was evident that most of them were regulars. The restaurant offers an open floor plan with a full liquor bar, low top and high top seating. There are curtains tied back, ready to be opened and sectioned off for parties. Hanging in Taso’s restaurant are the Greek, American and Italian flags. He also has the Cypress flag above the door; his father was a Cypriot. Taso’s inspiration for opening his

restaurant relies strongly on his experiences helping to run L’Epicure, his father’s restaurant on Long Island, NY. The history behind Taso’s talent; each dish created, the way the kitchen is run and laid out, everything down to the wall décor, comes from his knowledge and passion inherited from his father, Euripides Stassi, who although Cypress born came to America by way of England as a teenager on the RMS Queen Elizabeth. “He came alone with nothing but a dream,” said Taso. L’Epicure was a fine dining experience, serving the wealthiest in New York. Taso Italiano, located at the end of a strip mall in New Port Richey, has that warm European feel. In an effort to expand their customer base, Taso is now offering patrons a fantastic value at an affortdable price while still meeting the upmost of standards and food quality. Taso Italiano was able to lower prices without compromising the quality and portion size. The menu at Taso Italiano includes a kids’ menu, a fresh salad menu and a pizza menu in addition to their broad selection of land, sea and pasta

Taso Stassi (left) welcomes you to enjoy a magnificent meal at Taso Italiano entrées. Taso’s also offers two to three land and sea specials daily. There is always something for everyone – it’s not just Italian. Taso recently added new steak and seafood items to the menu. One of the most sentimental items on the menu to Taso is one of his father’s creations, the Fish in Fillo, which consists of the day’s catch topped with caramelized onions and sautéed spinach, wrapped in a light flaky pastry baked and served with a light, pink lobster sauce. was the best Black Angus Reserve that money can buy. Taso admits he is heavy-handed with his steak cuts. “It’s Taso, he’s always the best,” said Deborah. “It’s like flying to NYC on a three hour flight, but it’s only 10 minutes.” Standing towards the back of the restaurant I found two customers admiring the photographs of Taso’s father’s restaurant. Taso stopped to talk to them, and they realized that they used to eat at his father’s restaurant when they lived on Long Island. Cornell and JoAnne Thompson were born and raised in New York and moved to Florida in 2004. Since then, they have been looking for good, real, Italian food. They discovered Taso Italiano’s three weeks prior, but had never made the connection until they noticed the photographs on this night. They got to talking, and the three of them reminisced about the staple restaurant in their Long Island community that catered to renowned Italian families, politicians and celebrities such as Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, Bob Lape, Rich Little, and the entire Savalas family; Teddy, Telly and George. JoAnn loves Taso’s sauce; the couple described their new find as a “gold mine.”

I went to Taso Italiano on a Thursday, and I had the privilege of going back into the kitchen to watch Taso prepare my dish. Radish, Set, Go for 2014! Here in Florida we don’t get a real winter. There’s no snow and no super cold weather. Fortunately for us that means we get an additional growing season with gives us delicious root veggies, like the radish. Radishes are a misunderstood and often unremembered vegetable that we get a lot of growth from here in the cooler weather. Radishes have the advantage of being low calorie, cholesterol and saturated fat free but have a multitude of healthy micronutrients including potassium, vitamin C, folate, fiber, manganese, copper, magnesium, calcium, vitamin B6, riboflavin and sodium. Being such a great source of much needed vitamins and minerals keeps these nutrient dense gems at the top of our Health Starts Here® list. The best part, though? They are super simple to prepare. Trust me. Try these simple methods to start adding

some delicious, peppery radish flavor into your life. Eat them raw. Couldn’t be simpler, right? They are inexpensive, you can carry them in a small plastic container and they don’t require refrigeration. Grab a handful in the morning and crunch on them throughout the day to help keep cravings for less nutritious items to a minimum. Sliver them and add them to sandwiches, salads or even pasta dishes! They add a burst of flavor to anything you want to try them with. Braise them and use them as a side dish with your favorite

Cucumber, Radish and Seaweed Salad Noodle-like black seaweed strands make this strikingly colorful salad a healthful side dish for pairing with fish, grilled meals or Asian noodle dishes. The salad benefits from at least 30 minutes in the refrigerator to marinate in the vinaigrette.

Ingredients: 1 cup (1/2 ounce) dried arame seaweed 2 large cucumbers, halved lengthwise and thinly sliced 1 bunch small red radishes, trimmed and quartered 2 tablespoons unseasoned rice vinegar 2 teaspoons reduced-sodium tamari 2 tablespoons black or white sesame seeds, toasted and cooled (optional) Method: Soak arame in cold water until tender, about 15 minutes. Drain and transfer to a large bowl. Add cucumbers, radishes, rice vinegar and tamari and toss to combine. Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes. Just before serving, toss vegetables again with dressing that has settled at the bottom of the bowl and sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Landon Outreach Foundation’s 2nd Annual Feeding the Hungry A Happy Occasion for All! Neighboring families and individuals in need gathered together to enjoy a delicious hot meal on Monday, December 16 outside of The Good Samaritan Health Clinic, located at 5334 Aspen Street in New Port Richey. It was a beautiful Florida wintery day – sunny and just chilly enough for a lightweight jacket. Individual volunteers as well as volunteers from many local businesses and nonprofits, including The Good Samaritan Health Clinic, worked to make the Feeding the Hungry picnic a festive, holiday party. This special annual event was possible due to the fundraising efforts of the Landon Outreach Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit, and local supporting businesses including Landon Plastic Surgery and The Spa Boutique, Grille 54, Christo’s Family Restaurant and Pit Boss BBQ. Santa was there spreading Christmas cheer and in addition to a nutritious, tasty hot meal and dessert, those in need were given gift bags with blankets, warm socks, toothbrushes and

toothpaste. Many enjoyed the food and the camaraderie! Charles came out for a hot meal and said, “I am having a wonderful time at this event. It is a Godsend for everyone. It seems to be helping a lot of people. We all need help and it is great to see such a wonderful, giving spirit.” His friend Rick wanted to know, “Who made this? It hit the spot!” And Pat, who had joined them, said of The Good Samaritan Health Clinic, “This is a good place. They’ve been helping people for a long time.” Eleven-year-old Anecia and her brother Trevion, nine, enjoyed the day and Anecia even snuggled up to a lifesized, stuffed Frosty the Snowman for a warm snuggle. Bruce and Cheryl Landon of the Landon Outreach Foundation would like to thank the many volunteers who came out to help make this day special for as many as possible. Bruce and Cheryl were assisted by their children Alex and Ben, as well as many of their

Terry said, “New Port Richey is such a great city and I am glad to be out volunteering and helping to care for those in our city.” Beverly Harris truly enjoyed the day of volunteering, said, “It is an awesome blessing that Dr. Landon and his staff were able to provide for so many people. This is what Christmas is about.” Dr. Bruce Landon is hopeful that

the Feeding the Hungry event will continue to reach even more people in the future. He is happy that the 2013 event reached more people that the first Feeding the Hungry held in 2012. “This year we decided to hold it earlier in the day and take it out to an area where there is a more immediate need. The Good Samaritan Health Clinic was kind enough to let us set up on their property and even passed out fliers to local clinics to help us reach as many in need as possible.” Mother and daughter Loida and Kimberly, 27, worked side-by-side along with Barbara and Carol at the

sweets station. Kimberly said, “We’ve wanted to help out locally here in New Port Richey. This is a good cause and a good way to start the holidays. People for Haiti founder Guiga was there with her daughter and is excited that Landon Outreach Foundation will be part of the next trip to Haiti. Guiga said, “All four of the Landons are going to be able to go and we are very excited to have them join us on our upcoming mission.” The Event Factory’s photographer Eydie Gonzalez said, “I’m happy to be here to capture the event!” Lynn Hazard of Regional Networking Group saw the day as a great opportunity to meet like-minded people. Cheryl Landon arranged to send food to the Rap House, Catholic charities and a homeless shelter. people a place to feel good and find peace of mind. Ceci had a dream to create an opportunity to help others, while also keeping her family close. Originally from New Hampshire, Ceci and her family set a goal to all live in Florida near each other. “I had a vision and a beautiful plan to open a center that all my children could be involved in and be together as family,” says Ceci. We have been in Florida for seven years now and I have been able to watch my grandchildren growing up, while pursuing my passion as a therapist. This is a dream come true in the making.” Ceci attended the North Eastern Institute of Whole Health in Manchester, NH, where she learned the healing effects of Eastern Medicine and massage treatments. Massage of Trinity focuses on taking care of the whole self in an intimate, relaxing environment. You will be swept away in good feelings, vibrations and positive energy while visiting Massage of Trinity. Ceci says, “Our center has a very Eastern and Zen feel to it, but we want people to know that this is not about any sort of religion–– our atmosphere is to help people relax,

stretch massage. The Four-Hand massage originates from ancient Ayurveda and involves two therapists working in harmony. Couples massages are the perfect gift to connect with a loved one in your life, whether it is your significant other, friend or special family member. The Couples Massage room, Harmony, is the perfect atmosphere to relax and enjoy a full-body treatment that is intensely relaxing and rejuvenating. One of my favorite massage treatments is the Hot Stone Massage; a relaxing and restorative treatment that utilizes warm river stones and hands to penetrate deep into the muscle. The heat from the stones radiates throughout specific parts of the body to relieve tension and stress trapped inside the muscles. Ceci says, “While we provide a service, we strive to empower guests on their personal path to healing. Massage should not be seen as a luxury but as an investment in their wellness. I am so grateful for my team of wonderful massage therapists. Thank you to Bill, Donna, Joyce, Cenia, Carmen, Judy and Christy for their excellence in commitment to Massage of Trinity.” Massage is an excellent alternative to treat pain for many people. Instead of opting towards pharmaceuticals, visit Massage of Trinity for your therapeutic restorative session, whether for deep muscle aches, sports strains or just a moment to de-stress. You will find that Massage of Trinity’s therapists’ attention to detail and exceptional skill will benefit you in mind, body and spirit.

Our classes are for all levels and all of our instructors have a lot of experience in different forms of Yoga, Tai Chi and Adult Core Ballet. Tai Chi is really taking off – it is a very progressive type of class because you build your knowledge and strength with each class you take. Our Community, Our Home, Our Businesses By Matt Selby Our magazine has been promoting shopping local long before it was the cool thing to do; before “Small Business Saturday” – which American Express promotes like crazy for one day per year. In fact, it's been every day since 1994 when my dad Tim Selby and his former brother in-law Gary purchased an 11-month-old publication, consisting mostly of articles about national news, on whitewoven paper and turned it into the original New Tampa Neighborhood News. People learn enough about what is going on in the Nation by turning on the TV. But what is going on in our hometown? Where do we find out about that? Taking this into account, the theme of the magazine was changed. Immediately tossing the canned information out the window, Tim and Gary focused their attention on what was going on in the local community. Twenty years later, Gary still has the New Tampa Neighborhood News, as

well as another in Wesley Chapel, and my parents Tim and Doreen Selby, who have since parted ways with Gary, expanded Neighborhood News & Lifestyles into Trinity, East Lake, Odessa/Lutz/Land O' Lakes and Westchase, with four publications reaching over 70,000 mailboxes monthly. In 2013, my wife Alexis and I expanded the Neighborhood News and Lifestyles into the Carrollwood area, extending the reach of the Neighborhood New & Lifestyles name to another 14,000 homes and businesses. We hope you’ve enjoyed reading about what is going on here in our community over the past year and have had a chance to frequent the local businesses we help promote. We really want to thank all of you who have supported small businesses in 2013 and we hope you will continue to support them in 2014. It makes all the difference in the world to this community. By shopping at small businesses it keeps almost 75% of the money right here in our own econ-

omy. If we want our neighborhoods and surrounding Tampa Bay areas to thrive it’s our responsibility to support our neighbors. The following are just a few of the comments some of the local business owners had about their experience with us this past year. “We started running out of food at 10 in the morning,” says Bruce from Hattie's Cafe and Beanery. “We've never seen such a rush! We’ve been in the Tampa Tribune and that got us a little bump, we had a 2 and 1/2 minute spotlight on Fox News – that barely got us anything. In my 50 years plus of being in this industry, I’ve never felt such a push from local advertising in my life! People come in here and tell me why they came in and they say they came in because they saw us in “their” Neighborhood News magazine. They know it’s about their community and they love it!” “Everything about the magazine, I absolutely love! It actually brought me around 200 new customers after the article came out!”__Angel from New Beijing restaurant.

Lea from Great Clips says, “This publication is so great for our community businesses and has certainly been outstanding for mine. I have advertised for the past several months in the magazine with great results. Alexis did a front-page article on my Great Clips salon at Fletcher and Dale Mabry in the November issue of the magazine. The feedback we received was amazing! Friends, neighbors and customers get this magazine and mentioned it to me and to our staff as well. I would highly recommend putting an ad in the Neighborhood News & Lifestyles magazine. These ads are reasonably priced and provide great exposure for your local business. And, Alexis and Matt are terrific to work with.” Robert from Twinz Big City Hotdogs says, “Not only did we have our best Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday ever since being open, but we had our best days by at least 30%. I admit I was skeptical at first, but I am a true believer in what you guys can do now. By far the best thing we've ever done! We got to meet so many

great people in this community that came in directly because of what you wrote about us and people were telling us they would be back before they even tried the food. They were so sure they were going to love it based off what you wrote about us. After tasting the food, people were telling us it’s the best burger or the best hot dog or the best wings they have ever had and they didn't even know we were here! Thank you!” Hearing these kind of success stories gives me chills because I'm a small business owner too; we are not owned by some huge corporate media con-

glomerate. My wife and I are locals who know this area – who love this area – and we know how much work goes into making a business successful. You have to believe in what you are doing; you have to live it and you have to love it. People can tell which businesses operate simply to make a buck and which truly have a passion for what they offer. The business owner who understands that it’s his or her name on the line and their reputation is all they have – that's who we strive to promote. The small business owner that just needs people to know his story to be successful!

“Arry’s Roofing” Continued from page 1 Customers Jill and Steve Owens say, “From the very first contact with Arry's, our experience was fantastic! They were here when they said they would be, and the repair was completed on time! Arry's makes you truly feel valued as a customer. Once our repair was completed we received a very nice thank you gift and letter that was very much appreciated! It's the little things companies do like taking the time to thank us for our business that sets them apart from other companies! Based on our experience we will be lifetime Arry's customers!” Arry’s Roofing has been named a GAF Master Elite™ roofing contractor by the country’s leading roofing materials manufacturer. For the roofing industry, this is the most coveted award you can receive. Only the top 3% of all roofing contractors have qualified as Master Elite™ contractors, as it requires dedication, hard work and education, which the team at Arry’s has. Never using subcontractors, customers can trust Arry’s Roofing to do the job right. Arry says, “My passion is to be the leading example for the roofing industry to follow.”

Don’t Wait for a Leak! Protect Your Home! For most of us, our roof is one of those things we take for granted; that is, until something is wrong with it – as in, there’s a giant leak and we’re scrambling for buckets and pails! In Florida, our roofs take a beating, and with the hurricane season upon us, don’t take the chance this season. Instead, have the experts at Arry’s Roofing Services check it out. Arry says, “I honestly believe that people are reactive instead of proactive about their roofs. We can walk your roof, clean out the gutters, check the seals and make sure that your roof is ready for this summer’s weather.” He adds, “Sometimes things happen and no one notices – then they call and say ‘I have a leak!’ When that happens, our team of expert roofing contractors will help you determine whether your roof needs to be repaired or replaced.” Offering a proactive maintenance plan that will prolong the life of your roof, Arry’s offers an affordable maintenance program where his team will periodically perform a 40-point inspection, and make sure that there aren’t any signs of damage that could lead to a leak. Catching roof issues before they become something serious can save you thousands of dollars. If you know you need to have your
