The Lucky Dill is known for doing it big, from the size of their sandwiches to their bakery’s dessert menu, and this year they are the destination for holidays and events. Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and The Lucky Dill is going to be serving up specials that their customers are truly going love. Whether you are celebrating with your entire family or with that someone special, The Lucky Dill is the perfect destination. Valentine’s Day at The Lucky Dill includes a special menu, a Valentine’s Day cocktail and something truly sweet for everyone. If you are looking forward to St. Patrick’s Day, The Lucky Dill is going to be having what could be the biggest St. Patrick’s Day celebration that Palm

Harbor has ever seen. Located on US Hwy 19 between Tampa Road and Nebraska Road, the Lucky Dill’s weeklong St. Patty’s Day celebration will kick off on March 10th and continue all week long, ending with their biggest bash yet on Saturday and Sunday. This means that Lucky Dill customers will be able to take part in a party so big it had to have been born in the Big Apple. Lucky for us, we won’t have to go to NYC, or Ireland for that matter, to get the real deal, authentic taste that so many of us look forward to. If you get excited about green lager, bagpipes, leprechauns, pretty girls step dancing and 20 thousand pounds of perfectly cooked corned beef and cabbage, then you will want to come to the big St. Patty’s Day bash!

Expressions Cosmetic & Family Dentistry on Ridgemoor Boulevard in East Lake has extended hours until 7 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, and Saturday hours from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m., making it perfect for busy families and individuals. I should know. In 2011, when our family’s dental insurance changed, I called around and was delighted to find that Expressions Cosmetic & Family Dentistry took our insurance. We have been very happy at Expressions because Dr. McCaslin and her friendly staff don’t just offer excellent care; they really make patients feel

like they are part of the family. “I think patients really appreciate that the office has a down-home type of feel,” says Dr. McCaslin. Lyndsay H. McCaslin, DMD is committed to her patients and they have responded by spreading the word that she and her staff are wonderful. As a result, the referrals have continually come in and her practice has really grown since opening in January 2011. Dr. McCaslin has made accommodations for patients such as added Saturdays, going from being open one Saturday each month to three Saturdays. “Our evening and Saturday hours have been the biggest practice

Keeping Dollars in the Local Economy By Matthew Selby Our main focus at Neighborhood News and Lifestyles is to keep dollars in our local economy. It is our mission to provide every single business in the surrounding communities and beyond with a quality vehicle to help promote their business to all of their neighbors – that is why we mail to every home and business in the East Lake area every single month! In today’s rough economy, small local businesses are closing their doors on a daily basis, while many big corporate businesses still have the investors and financial backing to pull through. There is nothing wrong with national companies by any means, but by spending our money in locally owned businesses we can help our local economy flourish instead of decline. When we spend money locally, we contribute to the wellbeing of the entire community. Local businesses build strong vibrant towns, linking

neighbors in a web of economic and social relationships. Local ownership ensures that important decisions are made by people who live in the community and thus, will feel the impact of each decision they make directly. Many local businesses recycle excess revenue by giving back to the community in which they live; which enriches the area and creates an even better place to live and love. Locally owned and operated businesses also create jobs and sometimes pay even better than the “big guys.” Competition is not a bad thing. A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and above all, low prices. For example, there are hundreds of restaurants within any given city, some of which operate right

next to each other. This is necessary in a thriving economy. Can you imagine if there was only one type of each business in each town? It would be a monopoly and the price of a monopolized product would be astronomical! Entrepreneurship is what fuels America’s economic innovation and prosperity and serves as a key means for families to move out of a low paying job and into the middle and upper class. By spending money locally, we are putting money directly back into the community, therefore helping your family, your neighbors and your friends.

Acoustic Guitar Wizards Shaun Hopper and Adam Rafferty Perform One Night Only Back by popular demand after his sold-out September 2012 performance, Shaun Hopper will be joined by Adam Rafferty for one night only at the Capitol Theatre in downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street District on Friday, February 15 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are on sale at the Ruth Eckerd Hall Ticket Office. Shaun Hopper - It's beyond rarity, that in a single year a guitar player can emerge from small town obscurity to become an overnight You Tube® sensation... grabbing the ears of Grammy Award® winning legends and rock icons. Acoustic "Fingerstyle" Guitar Wizard Shaun Hopper has achieved that and much more. In succession, he's joined B.B. King at Ruth Eckerd Hall, headlined the "All-Star Guitar Night" at the 2012 Winter NAMM Show in Los Angeles and performed privately "by request" for Stevie Wonder! Rock legend Steve Vai found Hopper on line in 2010, and

4

signed him within weeks to his record label -Favored Nations/Digital Nations. Hopper's repertoire is global in scope, crossing and combining musical genres on the fly. Moving thematically through his set, Shaun takes his audience on a virtual tour from Celtic Imagery and Classical Medley to Soulful Ballads and Jazzy Improvs... all of which he'll counter punch with a Nashville "Hot Licks" session, Frettapping original or 70's Pop Song. An unparalleled master of the fret-board, Hopper merges complex melodies, harmonies and bass lines along with a one-of-a-kind mix of percussive elements which simply captivates. With listeners caught off balance, he is always able to rouse the crowd with a contagious sing-a-long or two. Expect to hear threads of Bach, Beethoven, Beatles, George Benson, Sting, Segovia, John Mayer, Stevie Wonder, Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel,

James Taylor and Queen. Shaun always raises a smile, a glass and if not ....a standing ovation. Adam Rafferty - Adam Rafferty (a.k.a. “Raf”) has played as a first-call

legend Bennie Wallace, and bassist Bob Cranshaw from the original Saturday Night Live band, to name a few. Students have flown across the country and from Europe to tap Adam’s brain for guitar knowledge. He’s taught countless workshops, written two books, and has a new instructional DVD available on which he teaches fingerstyle versions of Stevie Wonder’s most popular songs. In just a few years, he’s become a YouTube guitar sensation. His views are in the tens of millions. Thanks to this new popularity he’s performed festivals in Bangkok, Helsinki, Germany and Austria. Among Adam’s musical innovations is the ability to play two simultaneous melodies on the guitar and do hip-hop flavored “human beatbox” with his mouth at the same time. Some say his solo version of Herbie Hancock’s Chameleon sounds like the “guitarist with three heads.” It has to be heard to be believed. His solo versions of Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean and Stevie Wonder’s Superstition are his most popular songs and have groove that will make you jump out of your seat. Whether you're a guitar enthusiast or not matters little. Shaun Hopper & Adam Rafferty will deliver back-to-back audio-visual performances which simply exceed the limits of acoustic guitar... mesmerizing everyone within earshot. Reserved tickets priced at $30 and $25

Calvary Church is Coming to East Lake! Renovations are underway at 1190 East Lake Road as Calvary Church in Clearwater prepares to become one church in two locations. Calvary’s new East Lake campus is beginning to take shape as construction crews ready the facility for the Grand Opening that will take place March 31, 2013 - Easter Sunday. It will be a new beginning as the doors open to the tri-county region on this special day. Calvary East Lake as it will be known, is a welcomed addition in the church’s plan to become a regional church for the people of the East Lake region and beyond. As well, the worship services can be viewed in multiple viewing areas that have been created both inside and out.

“Outside of new buildings and facilities, the opportunity to connect with the people of East Lake is the main priority. Building relationships and fostering community is what Calvary is all about. Bringing people to dynamic life in Christ is at the center of our mission” said Campus Pastor Danny Bennett. Dr. Willy Rice, Senior Pastor of Calvary recently shared the following with the congregation as he called on them to be praying for the people of the East Lake region. “With God there is always a something next! Life is a journey, not a destination, and this is the next step for Calvary and the East Lake area.

The Best Moments Last Forever at MacKinnon Jewelers By Julie Kanehl This Valentines Day surprise your loved one with something truly unique, and get them the perfect gift at MacKinnon Jewelers. This beautiful jewelry store sells some of the most recognizable jewelry brands in America including Simon G., Pandora Jewelry, and Frank Reubel, just to name a few. Convenient to the entire Tampa Bay Area, MacKinnon Jewelers is located at the corner of S.R. 54 and Little Road, on the north side of Trinity’s Mitchell Ranch Plaza. MacKinnon Jewelers provides the quality jewelry that the customers in our area are looking for, making it the perfect destination for anyone on your holiday list. Owner and Master Jeweler, Tom MacKinnon, has been expertly perfecting his craft since 1985 and he continues to share his passion with everyone who enters into his store. He and his experienced staff are extremely gifted at helping people pick the very best presents, and their knowledge for their inventory in gemstones, bridal sets,

watches and more is unparalleled. Tom’s passion for creating jewelry began during high school when he was hired at a jewelry store in Panama City, Florida. It was there that the manager of the store recognized a talent in Tom, and where Tom began to learn the art of jewelry repair and jewelry creation. After high school, Tom moved to Sarasota where he worked with a wellrespected designer named Terry Coffrin. Tom was Coffrin’s apprentice for five years, and during that time he both taught and challenged Tom, allowing him to grow as a jeweler and as an artist. In 1985 Tom began to work at his bench performing “trade work,” which allowed him to do repairs and to create jewelry for stores in his area. He worked as a jewelry manufacturer for four years, and managed a trade shop for five years before he became a jeweler for Littman’s Jewelers at Countryside Mall. He worked at Littman’s Jewelers for eleven years and in 2004 opened MacKinnon Jewelers. Tom continues to pursue his education, has recently earned his Diamond

Degree, his Pearl Degree and is working on earning his Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America. Tom MacKinnon and his experienced staff, which includes Debbie Rocchio, Gale Arnold, Donna Todd and Mary Ann Brennan, are all waiting

You’ll find trusted experience, an incredible inventory and fantastic customer service when you come into MacKinnon. Celebrate This Year’s Moments with Pandora Jewelry MacKinnon Jewelers has been the preferred Trinity Pandora store for years, and they have always been committed to their Pandora customers by helping them to explore all that is new within the gigantic jewelry line of bracelets, charms, pendants, earrings and more. Recently they upgraded their Pandora display to the Gold Level inside MacKinnon Jewelers that beautifully showcases all of the coordinated jewelry that Pandora has to offer. Pandora Jewelry has taken the world by storm, and it’s no wonder, as this beautiful jewelry is expertly designed in Denmark, and handcrafted in Thailand. The concept of creating a threaded bracelet in sterling silver or gold, with charms that can be threaded on to create a “story” has completely changed the way women

express themselves with jewelry. A Pandora bracelet makes the perfect gift for any of the lovely ladies in your life, because not only is it beautiful, but it is a gift that can grow and change throughout the years by adding charms that Pandora lovingly calls “Moments.” One of the best parts about Pandora Jewelry, besides the expert craftsmanship and the beauty of each charm, is the pricepoint. There’s a Pandora bracelet for every price range, style, and taste. Customer Joei Fusaro says, “I enjoy shopping at MacKinnon Jewelers. They are very accommodating and helpful!” Every Girl Loves Diamonds and Gemstones! MacKinnon Jewelers has an amazing array of fine jewelry in every style, from classic to modern, and from smart to sassy. The cases at MacKinnon are filled with gemstones of every color, from sapphires to rubies, from pearls to opals. Tom has expanded his collection and is displaying new pieces from award-winning designer Frank Reubel, as well as a new line to MacKinnon customers called Ande. 35 Years of Excellence in Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling

S & W Kitchens is family owned and operated and has been serving Florida homeowners since 1977. They are state licensed building contractors who specialize in kitchen and bathroom remodels and their beautiful showroom in Palm Harbor is a stunning example of why their remodeling designs are award-winning. S & W Kitchens has three locations in Florida including the showroom closest to your neighborhood on Ridgemoor Blvd. in Palm Harbor. Today in our challenging economy at a time when construction is down, S & W Kitchens continues to grow. Sales Manager Adam Vinson ex-

plains, “Our business is up 36 percent this year, many of our customers are choosing to stay put and are upgrading their homes instead of selling, but I attribute our success to our standard of excellence, our quality products and exceptional performance.”

Standard of Excellence From the time of its inception in 1977, S & W Kitchens has had a mission to offer master craftsmanship, personalized service and custom designs to create beautiful and functional rooms for all tastes and

budgets. Throughout the years this legacy has been carried forward, distinguishing S & W from other remodeling contractors and large corporate chains. Today, the company is a prominent and active member of a number of important industry associations including the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA), the Bath and Kitchen Buying Group (BKBG) and the Home Builders Association of Central Florida. Additionally, to protect their customers, all of their employees (including sales people, designers and installers) are screened by Ask the Seal. Adam shares, “Before we hire anyone they must be approved by the Ask the

Seal, a third party verification process. To ensure that the people working for us have no violent offenses, they must be licensed, bonded and insured and they even check their credit history.”

Quality Products S & W Kitchens is considered a “one-stop” shopping experience featuring all of the latest cabinetry, countertops and accessories available. They combine the highest quality professional design and construction services with top quality products. In 2009, S & W was recognized by the Orlando Business Journal as one of the Top 25 Specialty Contractors in Central Florida. SmileFaith Foundation – Hope With Every Smile! By Alexis Selby The smile is a captivating expression that conveys personality, mood and confidence. Each smile tells a story – the happiness of our present state, and in some cases, the struggles of our past. Due to life circumstances and the mistakes of one’s past, many people’s once dazzling smiles have faded, leaving behind a mouth full of unhealthy teeth. At SmileFaith Foundation, they believe that no person should be limited by the condition of their smile and strive to help underprivileged individuals and veterans get much-needed dental care and regain control of their lives. “The SmileFaith Foundation has made my dreams come true,” states patient Rachel. “I now have my self-confidence back, and a beautiful smile. I showed off my teeth as if it were a new car.” Tom and Chrissie Lane, successful entrepreneurs and caring humanitarians, recognized the increasing need of so many individuals who were suffering from the devastating affects of poor oral health. It became clear to

34

them that many of these same people could also benefit from life coaching and encouragement to help them overcome the struggles which were keeping them from discovering life purpose, financial stability, healthy relationships and overall peace of mind. After envisioning a way to help, Tom and Chrissie founded the SmileFaith Foundation, Inc. in 2009, a 501 [c] [3] nonprofit foundation that provides charitable dental care, inspiration, and life resources for the residents of the Tampa bay Area and beyond. “The SmileFaith Foundation leadership brings a diverse background, including community service, international aid and relief work, faithbased ministry, counseling, business development and management, and entrepreneurship,” says Shalandra Stephenson, grant organizer at SmileFaith. “We are well-versed in servicing the dental needs of underserved and disadvantaged individuals and have also realized a marked success in providing individual counseling, as well as connectivity to important community resources.”

The SmileFaith Foundation is a unique nonprofit organization committed to charitable dental care and life coach counseling and thanks to the dedicated efforts of the amazing volunteers and employees, SmileFaith Foundation has helped over 500 recipients in the past three and a half years. and teach them new tools so they can acquire confidence on the inside.” The program takes a holistic approach to healing the mind, body and spirit and supports individuals in their quests for happiness, self-confidence, and stronger career opportunities. SmileFaith seeks to build lasting relationships with all of their recipients in order to help them through life’s trials both before and after the dental work is complete. The Smile Again Program provides funding assistance for dental treatments, counseling and assessments through an individual life coaching plan, additional community resources and connections, and most importantly – a dazzling new smile! “SmileFaith offers a hand-up not a hand-out,” says Tom, as he explains that in addition to providing grants and funding to underprivileged individuals, SmileFaith also helps their patients manage their financial situation and take responsibility for a partial portion of the cost of their dental care. By giving these recipients ownership, they now become invested in their progress, which in turn deters them from going down the path that led them to SmileFaith in the first place.

No one understands the heart and soul of SmileFaith better than Rosemarie Glade – the first ever SmileFaith recipient and the basis for which the program was founded. Before SmileFaith, Rosemarie’s smile was decimated due to years of bad decisions, and although she was trying to turn her life around, she was reminded of her past every time she looked in the mirror. With the help and generosity of SmileFaith, Rosemarie received the blessing of extensive dental care – resulting in a beautiful, new smile. “Rosemarie is our poster child,” says Tom. “She has a confident, infectious smile! Rosemarie is now the Special Ambassador for SmileFaith Foundation. She smiles brightly everyday, as she is reminded of just how far she has come with the help of God and wonderful friends like SmileFaith. As Special Ambassador, Rosemarie now assists others who are struggling with life’s issues to find hope with every smile.” The SmileFaith Foundation accepts new recipients based on nominations from either a friend, relative or neighbor (candidates may not nominate themselves). For more information or to nominate a deserving

individual please visit their website at www.SmileFaith.com. SmileFaith is proud to announce the Grand Opening of their new and unique thrift shop, and Christianbased coffeehouse, which are located right next door to their office in Port Richey at 8135 US Hwy 19. All proceeds from both the thrift shop and the coffee house will go to the SmileFaith Foundation. In order to better service local dental needs, Tom and Chrissie Lane are very excited about opening an onsite SmileFaith dental clinic in the near future. “Our plans are to have a full-time dentist at the new clinic, as well as continuing to partner with local dentist offices,” says Tom. Mission Trips The love and compassion of SmileFaith extends far beyond the Unites States. Through their mission trips, SmileFaith seeks to help underprivileged individuals throughout the world. On their recent mission trip to Guatemala, the SmileFaith team partnered with Guatemalan Mission Outreach and reached out to over 140 people in need of critical dental care. In addition to providing dental care, they also had an optical room where patients could go to get their eyes checked, a beautician offering haircuts, games for the children and a Bible club. If you are interested in joining SmileFaith on their next mission trip please contact their office at (727) 807-7958. Everyone is welcome! You Can Make a Difference The Smile Faith Foundation is a wonderful non-profit organization that relies on the generous support of caring individuals and businesses in the local community to help fund what they do. If you are interested in chang-

ing the lives of those in need, there are many ways in which you can help – by getting your Life Coach Counseling Certification and becoming a life coach counselor, becoming a SmileFaith Strategic Partner (if you represent a businesses, church, dental office, etc.), volunteering at Smile Faith or on one of their missions trips, or donating to their cause. The SmileFaith Foundation hopes to expand in the near future and is actively looking for volunteers, so if you are ready to make a difference, please contact SmileFaith today. Tom and Chrissie have created such a wonderful atmosphere where people know they can go to be loved and cared for. “We form relationships with our patients and like to get to know their families,” says Rosemarie. They are your support group, your vision of hope, and most importantly – your friends! Nothing is more eye-catching than a genuine, beautiful smile that is boasting with confidence. Unfortunately, with the rising cost of living, many people can no longer afford the luxury of visiting a dentist, and due to unfavorable life circumstances and bad decisions, suffer from poor oral health; in turn causing them to have lower self esteem and a hard time finding a job. The caring individuals at SmileFaith are dedicated to helping these underprivileged individuals turn their lives around and through their Smile Again Program offer their patients hope for their future. “Dr. McCaslin” Continued from page 1 Better Results, Less Time Staying on top of the latest advances in dentistry is important to Dr. McCaslin and she is very excited about the latest technology that Expressions Cosmetic & Family Dentistry has added. “I am the first dentist in the Tampa Bay area to have the Omnicam,” says Dr. McCaslin. The CEREC Omnicam is pretty amazing technology that has been 27 years in the making, but to simplify, it scans the teeth for a precise 3-D image in natural color that allows the dentist and/or lab to get more precise measurements for fitting crowns, bridges and implants. And the best news for patients is that this new 3-D scanning technology eliminates the need for temporary crowns and the extra visits to the dentist for fitting in the permanent crown. “All ceramic crowns can be done here in one day with the Omnicam,” says Dr. McCaslin. And if you need a bridge or want a gold crown, your image can be transmitted in twotenths of a second to a local dental lab so they can see the fit right away and get the most precise fit possible. “It

eliminates the need for multiple impressions,” explains Dr. McCaslin. “It allows a complex restorative case to be a simple restorative.” Expressions Cosmetic and Family Dentistry is a completely digitized office. All appointments, scheduling, charts, and x-rays are digital. Each operatory is equipped with a computer that can access all patients’ charts, xrays, intra-oral and extra-oral pictures. Along with panoramic x-rays, Dr. McCaslin takes digital photos – now with the new CEREC Omnicam – of each patient’s mouth inside and out. Oral digital photography is used to educate the patients by showing them actual photos. By showing the pictures and explaining to the patient the root of the problem, the patient can see for themselves what is really going on with their teeth. “A picture is worth a thousand words,” explains Dr. McCaslin. “Digital photography has changed dentistry as we know it. I feel so lucky to be able to be a part of this new technology to further provide the best available care for my patients.” For gum disease, lasers have been proven to be a very effective treatment and Dr. McCaslin uses a Picasso laser as part of the gum tissue health program at the practice.

The CEREC Omnicam’s 3-D scanning technology allows for a precise fit and eliminates the need for temporary crowns and extra office visits. About Dr. McCaslin Dr. McCaslin knew early on that she wanted to be a dentist and started gaining experience in 1997 while working in dental offices in her hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky. She graduated cum laude from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, with a Bachelor’s Degree in 2002. During that time she was active in the National Honors Society, Alpha Epsilon Delta, the America Student Dental Association, Kappa Delta

Brain Balance of Oldsmar Shares Stories of Success It is a natural thing for a parent to want the very best for their child – to dream of their future and imagine it filled with smiles, happiness and success at every stage of life. So when it becomes clear that a child is going to have problems meeting the milestones that their peers are having no problems with – that the intricacy of their brain doesn’t fall into the “norm” – it is heartbreaking for the parents and the child. Sometimes it isn’t clear to parents that anything is wrong until their child starts school and their confidence level starts dropping as they struggle to perform in a world where they are expected to fall into place with the rest of the class. That is when the search begins for a way to help a child learn and grow; to achieve success despite their individual challenges. Brain Balance Achievement Center of Oldsmar, located at 4022 Tampa Road, is an achievement center designed to help children who have been labeled with or who exhibit signs of ADHD, ADD, dyslexia, autism, Asperger’s syndrome, Tourette’s, learning disabilities or processing disorders. As the statistics for such conditions have grown exponentially over the last two decades, many parents have been given very little hope that their children will ever be able to grow properly and learn to succeed. Brain Balance offers hope and success. Owner and Director Larry Polnicky is a parent who knows firsthand how it feels to search far and wide for a solution. He opened Brain Balance in Oldsmar because the Brain Balance Center in Atlanta, Georgia was the best solution he and his wife found for their son who has autism.

44

In fact, it seemed like the only thing that did work. Since opening the Brain Balance in Oldsmar, the Polnicky family has known much joy, not only in seeing the growth and success of their own child, but in seeing the difference Brain Balance is making for local children and their families by helping them to succeed beyond the label, without medication, and with proven results. Personal Stories of Success at Brain Balance The following stories are personal stories that parents are willing to share about their children and the help they have received at Brain Balance. Neighborhood News & Lifestyles and Brain Balance would like to thank these folks for sharing such heartwarming stories with our readers. Respecting their privacy, we are not using full names. Soaring through Reading Levels––“My son was assessed for a new school today,” writes JF. “He was to start 4th grade. His reading comprehension level put him at 7th grade. I am thrilled. Six months ago in August he was just below 4th grade [level]. I know that Brain Balance has made the difference in his reading comprehension scores.” Calm, Focused & Learning––CS shares, “We have noticed our son is calmer, and if something does bother him, it is very short lived. He is transitioning better. His teacher has commented on how calm and focused he’s become. He’s had great days at school because of the great staff at Brain Balance! We are very excited to see how much more he will achieve. His music teacher said he never raised his hand in class until

today. He asked for the drum and played and hummed a classical piece of music that the teacher recognized right away! Thanks!” Travel Time is Well Worth It–– “We drive 2 1/2 hours one way and our son is worth every minute and mile spent on the road. Just 20 sessions and my son’s reading fluency and word reading has markedly improved. We are so proud of him! He loves coming to Brain Balance. His confidence has improved greatly too J. Thank you to such an awesome team of professionals who understand and care about children with learning challenges. It’s also a soft place to land as a parent. Thanks again!”_ KP Off Medication––“He is off all his meds,” shares parent JC. “He is losing weight and getting better sleep. He has been acting out some still. His primary care doctor is going to try to find something natural for him. She has also recommended him getting counseling. He is more affectionate. Has a tutor and should be through with 9th grade by

the end of June. He will have the opportunity to opt out for anything he can test out for.” Self-Aware and Socializing––DW writes about the great things that her daughter is experiencing after attending Brain Balance. “Here are just a few of the wonderful things that Brain Balance has done for Danielle. Most recently Danielle has stopped taking her “brain pill” as she called it. This was medication to help with focus. So far no negative effects noted from not taking it! She is eating better, exercising more, and requires less sleep. Physically stronger…she recently did a ropes course, climbed a rock wall and did zip line. “She is calmer and less impulsive. This has been noticed by others is group settings and social gatherings. (It’s not just MY opinion!) She is controlling her voice level better. (Not as loud.) And is SELF regulating her actions more because she now has self-awareness. Conversations now on a more mature and age appropriate level. She is initiating so-

cial interaction on a more meaningful level at home, school and church. She is interacting and bonding with peers and building friendships and developing a more appropriate sense of humor. She has begun journaling in the form of art and short stories or comic strips. She is better able to grasp intangible concepts such as religious beliefs. What more could you

ask for! But I know there is still more to come!” Great Strides Forward––TB of St. Pete writes of her daughter, “We went snorkeling off Grand Cayman and Cozumel - and she did fantastically! She kept track of all her gear, was able to navigate the reef with ease, and had the time of her life swimming with the dolphins! What a trip!”

East Lake Area Neighborhood News

Her mother’s letter also noted that Angela had made the high school bowling team. “She started her average (without bumpers) was around 29. With only two weeks of practice she’s up to a 55 average, and we’re looking to break 100. Her coach is wonderful and her teammates embrace her and cheer her just as they do each other. Tears came to my eyes the first time I saw her roll that ball right down the center. “Her exit testing wasn’t all that great - but then Angela has never been a test taker. She shuts down, and I don’t know if that will ever change. But I do know that these stories I relate to you, as well as many other “intangible” changes in her life are without a doubt related to her Brain Balance training and learning. Anecdotal or not, this girl has made some great strides, and we’re more excited than ever about her moving forward and being able to live a fulfilling, happy life. Thank you to your whole [Brain Balance] team - from the moment we walked in to the suite until we left we felt positive energy coming toward us.”

The Brain Balance Mission The Brain Balance Mission Statement is “to make the Brain Balance Program available to as many children as possible, that each child may reach their greatest physical, mental, social and academic potential.” In order to do this, education is key. The directors, coaches and founders of Brain Balance really want parents to understand that there is hope, that there can be success, and that their children have bright futures ahead of them regardless of labels or limitations. Brain Balance offers free informative events for parents to come and learn about the details of the program and to see if it’s a right fit for their family. Guests who attend the free event are given a discount on the initial assessment. Call for details. The Brain Balance Achievement Center of Oldsmar is located at 4022 Tampa Rd., Suite 6. Please call (813) 475-6977 for additional information. Email them directly at oldsmar@brainbalancecenters.com or visit brainbalancecenters.com.
