Their program of car repairs, vehicle replacement, related licensing services, car payments, down payments and car-care classes in Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties has helped tons of families make better lives for themselves. In October 2003, National Car Care Month, Wheels of Success was able to award their first car to a Pinellas County individual in need. Wheels of Success Provides to Local Community

The organization obtains vehicles through donation or purchase and works with local community partners in the automotive industry to get the vehicles in safe, running condition. Serenity is a full-service salon and spa for both men and women, offering hair design, skin care, special occasion hair styling, massage, nail care, body treatments, makeup application, and waxing. Are you comfortable spending time styling or do you prefer low maintenance? This helps them decide which one of their 14 stylists would be the best match for you. And, while you are at Serenity, the stylists are sure

The stylists at Serenity take the extra time with you because they want to make sure you like your hair just as much a week after your visit as you do when you first walk out of the salon. I have very curly, very frizzy hair. Normally when I go to a hair salon I have my hair straightened, but Serenity stylist Ernesto said he could show me a way to style my hair so that it would be curly with no frizz in sight. After showing me which products would work best on my hair and how to properly dry it with a diffuser, my bouncy curls became a true testament to his knowledge. Plus, it felt good to have a stylist work with my hair, instead of against it, for a change. SmileFaith Foundation – Hope With Every Smile! By Alexis Selby The smile is a captivating expression that conveys personality, mood and confidence. Each smile tells a story – the happiness of our present state, and in some cases, the struggles of our past. Due to life circumstances and the mistakes of one’s past, many people’s once dazzling smiles have faded, leaving behind a mouth full of unhealthy teeth. At SmileFaith Foundation, they believe that no person should be limited by the condition of their smile and strive to help underprivileged individuals and veterans get much-needed dental care and regain control of their lives. “The SmileFaith Foundation has made my dreams come true,” states patient Rachel. “I now have my self-confidence back, and a beautiful smile. I showed off my teeth as if it were a new car.” Tom and Chrissie Lane, successful entrepreneurs and caring humanitarians, recognized the increasing need of so many individuals who were suffering from the devastating affects of poor oral health. It became clear to

them that many of these same people could also benefit from life coaching and encouragement to help them overcome the struggles which were keeping them from discovering life purpose, financial stability, healthy relationships and overall peace of mind. After envisioning a way to help, Tom and Chrissie founded the SmileFaith Foundation, Inc. in 2009, a 501 [c] [3] nonprofit foundation that provides charitable dental care, inspiration, and life resources for the residents of the Tampa bay Area and beyond. “The SmileFaith Foundation leadership brings a diverse background, including community service, international aid and relief work, faithbased ministry, counseling, business development and management, and entrepreneurship,” says Shalandra Stephenson, grant organizer at SmileFaith. “We are well-versed in servicing the dental needs of underserved and disadvantaged individuals and have also realized a marked success in providing individual counseling, as well as connectivity to important community resources.”

The SmileFaith Foundation is a unique nonprofit organization committed to charitable dental care and life coach counseling and thanks to the dedicated efforts of the amazing volunteers and employees, SmileFaith Foundation has helped over 500 recipients in the past three and a half years. and teach them new tools so they can acquire confidence on the inside.” The program takes a holistic approach to healing the mind, body and spirit and supports individuals in their quests for happiness, self-confidence, and stronger career opportunities. SmileFaith seeks to build lasting relationships with all of their recipients in order to help them through life’s trials both before and after the dental work is complete. The Smile Again Program provides funding assistance for dental treatments, counseling and assessments through an individual life coaching plan, additional community resources and connections, and most importantly – a dazzling new smile! “SmileFaith offers a hand-up not a hand-out,” says Tom, as he explains that in addition to providing grants and funding to underprivileged individuals, SmileFaith also helps their patients manage their financial situation and take responsibility for a partial portion of the cost of their dental care. By giving these recipients ownership, they now become invested in their progress, which in turn deters them from going down the path that led them to SmileFaith in the first place.

No one understands the heart and soul of SmileFaith better than Rosemarie Glade – the first ever SmileFaith recipient and the basis for which the program was founded. Before SmileFaith, Rosemarie’s smile was decimated due to years of bad decisions, and although she was trying to turn her life around, she was reminded of her past every time she looked in the mirror. With the help and generosity of SmileFaith, Rosemarie received the blessing of extensive dental care – resulting in a beautiful, new smile. “Rosemarie is our poster child,” says Tom. “She has a confident, infectious smile! Rosemarie is now the Special Ambassador for SmileFaith Foundation. She smiles brightly everyday, as she is reminded of just how far she has come with the help of God and wonderful friends like SmileFaith. As Special Ambassador, Rosemarie now assists others who are struggling with life’s issues to find hope with every smile.” The SmileFaith Foundation accepts new recipients based on nominations from either a friend, relative or neighbor (candidates may not nominate themselves). For more information or to nominate a deserving

individual please visit their website at www.SmileFaith.com. SmileFaith is proud to announce the Grand Opening of their new and unique thrift shop, and Christianbased coffeehouse, which are located right next door to their office in Port Richey at 8135 US Hwy 19. All proceeds from both the thrift shop and the coffee house will go to the SmileFaith Foundation. In order to better service local dental needs, Tom and Chrissie Lane are very excited about opening an onsite SmileFaith dental clinic in the near future. “Our plans are to have a full-time dentist at the new clinic, as well as continuing to partner with local dentist offices,” says Tom. Mission Trips The love and compassion of SmileFaith extends far beyond the Unites States. Through their mission trips, SmileFaith seeks to help underprivileged individuals throughout the world. On their recent mission trip to Guatemala, the SmileFaith team partnered with Guatemalan Mission Outreach and reached out to over 140 people in need of critical dental care. In addition to providing dental care, they also had an optical room where patients could go to get their eyes checked, a beautician offering haircuts, games for the children and a Bible club. If you are interested in joining SmileFaith on their next mission trip please contact their office at (727) 807-7958. Everyone is welcome! You Can Make a Difference The Smile Faith Foundation is a wonderful non-profit organization that relies on the generous support of caring individuals and businesses in the local community to help fund what they do. If you are interested in chang-

ing the lives of those in need, there are many ways in which you can help – by getting your Life Coach Counseling Certification and becoming a life coach counselor, becoming a SmileFaith Strategic Partner (if you represent a businesses, church, dental office, etc.), volunteering at Smile Faith or on one of their missions trips, or donating to their cause. The SmileFaith Foundation hopes to expand in the near future and is actively looking for volunteers, so if you are ready to make a difference, please contact SmileFaith today. Tom and Chrissie have created such a wonderful atmosphere where people know they can go to be loved and cared for. “We form relationships with our patients and like to get to know their families,” says Rosemarie. They are your support group, your vision of hope, and most importantly – your friends! Nothing is more eye-catching than a genuine, beautiful smile that is boasting with confidence. Unfortunately, with the rising cost of living, many people can no longer afford the luxury of visiting a dentist, and due to unfavorable life circumstances and bad decisions, suffer from poor oral health; in turn causing them to have lower self esteem and a hard time finding a job. The caring individuals at SmileFaith are dedicated to helping these underprivileged individuals turn their lives around and through their Smile Again Program offer their patients hope for their future. Dr. Mike says, “If you give people hope, it is amazing what can happen!” The SmileFaith Foundation is located at 8125 US Highway 19 in Port Richey. Licensed in Maryland, DC, Virginia and Florida, Karla is a member of the American Massage Therapy Association, and is Nationally Board Certified. Karla’s massages can be done anywhere – at home, poolside, or at the office. Most of her clients choose the room in their house that offers the least distractions, and there she creates a wonderful environment for massage. She also takes the time to really speak to her clients before their massage to learn more about them so that she can create the best personalized massage experience. Lindsey from New Port Richey says, “If you are looking for the best massage, then look no further than Karla, she is a rare find. Once

you have a massage from Karla, you will look no further, that I will guarantee!” Massage Services that Improve Your Life “Your Health is your Wealth” is the philosophy at Barkdoll Massage Therapy, and that is why Karla takes the time to really find out what kind of massage you prefer, whether it’s a Swedish massage or a deep tissue treatment for chronic pain, Karla’s massage will make a difference in your life. Karla offers a wide range of affordable massage therapy styles and packages. If you are looking for a traditional massage, Swedish massage treatments are designed to improve circulation, reduce stress and to relieve muscle tension. This massage is very popular all over the world because of its light, long, and slow strokes that relax your cares and worries away. deep tissue massages I use trigger points to specifically find the places where the work needs to be done.” Deep tissue massages can help people who live with painful conditions live a fuller life. Another style of massage that Karla offers is sports massage and injury rehabilitation. This style of massage combines the benefits and style of a deep tissue massage with stretching, which can improve the range of motion in joints. Whether you are healing after a car accident or are suffering from chronic pain associated

with a medical condition, this kind of massage can be extremely beneficial. One of Karla’s clients from Trinity recently said, “I have had the pleasure of having Karla as a massage therapist for the past six years and it has always been an enriching and healing experience. She is knowledgeable, professional and a kindhearted person and I have no hesitation in recommending her service. She has hands of gold!” Prenatal massages are a fantastic way to pamper the mom-to-be while easing some of the side effects of

pregnancy. Karla uses specially designed massage table pillows that create a comfortable position just for her during this time, so that pregnant moms can safely enjoy their massage. Aromatherapy is proven to aid in relaxation, which is why Barkdoll Massage Therapy offers a variety of essential oils and scents that can be used in collaboration with any other style of massage. Most often used with a Swedish massage, aromatherapy oils are applied by Karla during your massage to enhance the massage experience. One local couple recently wrote, “We all have very busy schedules and it saves us time and stress to have Karla come right to our home. My husband has chronic pain and her weekly massages help him tremendously. Whether you just want a great stress reliever or you have a medical condition I would highly recommend Karla!” If you are looking for a fantastic way to improve morale at work, how about offering your employees a corporate seated massage? This is a fully clothed, seated massage that can be done right at the office. This style of massage focuses on the back, neck, shoulders, scalp, arms and hands. What a great way to let your employees know how much you care about them! My Massage with Karla I am a huge fan of massages. I go every chance I get, but to be honest, that isn’t very often. When I’m not busy with my family or writing for Neighborhood News & Lifestyles, I’m like most moms and am usually concerned with everyone else’s comfort over my own. That’s why I was so excited to be given the chance to experience one of Karla’s massages by the staff at Neighborhood News. (Thanks Jim!) Scheduling my massage turned out to be a breeze because Barkdoll Massage Therapy is one of the only places that offers evening massage appointments. It was all very easy for me since I wasn’t going to have to worry about driving anywhere or a babysitter for the kids! On the evening of my massage appointment, I simply picked out a quiet room in the house, sent the kids outside to play with my hubby, and got ready to enjoy my massage. Karla arrived right on time and brought everything she needed with her. A true professional, Karla even wears a clinical massage uniform. Within just a few minutes Karla had

set up the massage table and was set up and ready to go. I was really impressed with how quickly the room I had picked had been transformed. Before we started she spoke to me about what kind of massage treatment I wanted, and she asked if I had any injuries that she needed to be aware of. We decided on a combination Swedish and deep tissue massage. She also offered me many different aromatherapy options from rose oil to eucalyptus. I felt totally at ease, and while she stepped out of the room, I comfortably got onto the massage table and got settled. When Karla came back in a moment later, she put on what I like to call “massage music,” and spoke to me about what she was going to do before she began. To my surprise, I was even more relaxed because I was at home. I enjoyed the entire hour instead of wondering how many minutes had passed, or wondering about the kids. I felt safe, pampered and well cared for. After my massage, I felt like a softened stick of butter, and I was able to just put on my slippers instead of my shoes! This was an incredibly cool experience that made me feel more centered, and really changed my outlook. I felt great for days and my entire family could see what a difference it made for me both physically and emotionally. I can see that a massage with Karla would be a great gift, which is why I’m so happy that she offers gift certificates, but one of the best parts about Barkdoll Massage Therapy is how affordable it is. I might not have to wait for a special occasion because her pricing is competitive and affordable enough to fit into anyone’s budget on a regular basis. From now on, I’m going to take better care of myself, and that includes having massage treatments from Barkdoll Massage Therapy on a regular basis. See you in a few weeks Karla! Barkdoll Massage Therapy is an entirely mobile massage therapy business that comes to you. Karla Barkdoll (License # MA47546) is available Mon., Tues. and Wed., from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., and on other days by appointment only. When we knew we wanted to have tile removed and hardwood and carpet laid down we shopped several stores who we thought would have the most competitive prices. We even received a quote for tile removal from a family friend who does it for side work. Yeager not only beat or matched everyone’s prices (including our family friend), but they also had a much better selection. We were also able take advantage of their 12-month no interest plan available to qualified buyers through a third party lender. We picked out three different woods and laminates at the Odessa showroom and distribution center. Then our salesman brought samples to our house so we could see how they would look with our lighting. Once we saw it in the house we knew we wanted the more expensive hardwood, so our salesman worked on how we could lower the carpet cost so we could get the hardwood we wanted and stay within our price range. The tile removal went much smoother than I could have imagined with very little dust or particles left behind because they thoroughly taped and sealed all the areas in advance. Our floors were expertly laid down. The quality of our hardwood and how it is adhered to the floor makes nearly

Community News Briefs Local Florida Author releases novel – Cherokee Talisman David-Michael Harding, a local Florida resident and author of How Angels Die, recently released his newest book – Cherokee Talisman, a story depicting this heroic Native American tribe. In his book, an orphan boy, Totsuhwa, is taken under the wing of legendary Cherokee war Chief Tsi’yugunsini, the Dragon. But, even under a dragon’s wing, it isn’t safe when a covetous nation forms around them. Amid the batDavid-Michael tles, TotHarding suhwa fights the reoccurring pain of loss until he meets Galegi, who becomes his wife. Trying to raise their son in a peace the new world won’t allow, they teach him the strictest Cherokee traditions while white assimilation, encroachment, and treachery grows. General Andrew Jackson wages war against tribes across the southeast and the toll is high. With his people gradually losing everything, Totsuhwa must find a way to save his family — and the Cherokee Nation — before all is lost. “Cherokee Talisman brings to life characters from our history and through a flare for fiction and historical research, Harding tells their story,” says Cherokee Nation Princi-

pal Chief Bill John Baker. “Cherokees that might be painted by racist misconceptions as blood thirsty savages are humanized by Harding, making them heroes of a very real time. History is written by the victorious, but when almost forgotten historical characters are brought to life they are preserved for the ages, and in this preservation David-Michael Harding has succeeded.”

The Right Fit Foundation Notifying Parents of Seniors of FASFA Deadlines & Requirements You may have heard, “the FAFSA is free and easy, you don’t need help - just press the button after you file your taxes and you’re done.” Consider this: The IRS provides instructions on how to fill out your taxes, but not instructions on how to pay the least amount in taxes. The same is true for FAFSA. The foundation would be happy to show you how to pay the least for college. Below is the financial aid timeline you will have to work within over the next several months: • January 1st the FAFSA will be available online. Make sure you know the financial aid deadlines for each college your student has applied to. Don’t forget, some colleges require the CSS Profile, W-2s or their own financial aid forms. If you have questions about filling these out to your best advantage, give us a call - we provide free reviews. • December through February Admission decisions come during these months and often include scholarship offers. Sometimes these

Westchase Area Neighborhood News

offers have “expiration dates” in order to hook a family into committing to the college before receiving offers from other schools. • March and April - Award Letters state the total cost of attendance (tuition, room/board, books, fees, etc.) and any financial aid (scholarships, loans, work-study) the college is offering. Tip: Wait to make your final decision until you have an award letter from each college. Did you receive the best possible offer? The foundation can compare your student’s academic profile and your family’s financial profile with the award letter to give you an idea if you received what you should have. • May 1st is the deadline to submit your final decision. Unfortunately, May 1st does not give you a lot of time to review award letters.

Don’t let that stop you from making an informed decision. Compare all your offers! The Right Fit Foundation is here to help if you have questions during this process. Like all our services, these are free to local Tampa Bay area families. $5,000 Local Scholarship Don’t forget! The Right Fit Foundation is offering a $5,000 local scholarship to Hillsborough & Pasco County high school students. • No essay required • Weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher • Preference given to middle income families (annual household income typically between $50,000 and $200,000) To register, go to www.TheRightFitFoundation.org.
