The East Lake High School Marching Band has been selected to be a representative of the State of Florida in the 2014 National Memorial Day Parade in Washington, D.C. industry, and why U.S. manufacturing jobs have been experiencing a renaissance since 2010, with increased demand for workers each year. Manufacturing’s blue-collar image is being replaced with a young tech-savvy workforce. CNC-skilled workers earn an average of $50,000 per year. Students at East Lake High School Academy of Engineering will be among the first trained with this in-demand manufacturing skillset as part its STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) curriculum. The CNC lathe will give students the opportunity to use their computer skills to build almost anything they can imagine, allowing students to innovate with various materials, such as Corian, wood, and metal. “I’m most appreciative that our CTAE department was able to step up and assist with the funding for this initiative,” Pinellas superintendent Michael A. Grego said. “The department’s willingness to provide funding will allow East Lake High students the chance to expand their understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and will help prepare them for challenging careers after graduation.”

A Track Record of Success The ten-year-old Academy of Engineering at East Lake High School has exceeded expectations from day one. Starting with just 22 students in 2003, the Academy has since enrolled over 600 students. Their wait list averages 100 students per year. Graduates have an average weighted GPA of 4.3. Over 90% go on to pursue post-secondary degrees, with 71% declaring engineering as their major. Their curriculum, which emphasizes hands-on experience, was developed using the principles outlined in Project Lead The Way’s “Pathway to Engineering.” In 2008, the Academy was recognized by Project Lead The Way as a top 10 national high school. In 2009, the Pinellas County Board of Education identified the Academy as a Center for Excellence. Earlier in 2013, the SME Education Foundation designated the Academy as a PRIME school, bringing national attention to the school’s outstanding manufacturing program. Rodney Grover, Senior Development Officer for the SME Education Foundation which facilitated the grant, was enthusiastic in his praise: “The East Lake PRIME program under the direc-

tion of Paul Wahnish is producing results for the manufacturing community by inspiring, preparing and supporting the next generation of innovators for industry. Thanks to the generosity of Haas Automation, Career Technical Education Foundation and others, students at East Lake will be instructed using the latest in technology.” Preparing the Next Generation of Engineers The receipt of the vertical mill will enable East Lake students to become proficient with current industry machining and CNC standard practices. In order to operate the CNC mill, students will learn to translate academic theory into practice using mathematics, especially trigonometry and geometry. CNC machinery also requires students to have basic computer coding skills. Eventually, they will also be able to compete for paid internships that are only available to students experienced with CNC machines. By allowing the students to create their own parts (such as wheels, gears and sprockets), the Haas CNC vertical mill will also allow the Academy to save thousands of dollars each year. “The manufacturing industry is

getting increasingly sophisticated,” noted Peter Zierhut, representative, Haas Automation. “We are committed to helping prepare the next generation of engineers and technologists. And we recognize that commitment needs to start early. Over the years, we have placed over three thousand machine tools at various educational institutions to help train future engineers and machinists.” An ongoing commitment that Rodney Grover readily acknowledges: “The SME Education Foundation is grateful for the support of both Haas Automation and the Gene Haas Foundation who most recently gave $1 million in scholarship funding to support the machine trades throughout North America.” This is another great opportunity for East Lake students at the academy, which recently received national recognition by being designated as one of eleven PRIME Model Schools in the U.S. for teaching an exemplary manufacturing curriculum. Additionally, East Lake is recruiting technology-minded middle school students to learn in this state-of-the-art engineering lab beginning in the 2014-15 school year.

He attended the University of Florida in Gainesville, and graduated in 1993 with a B.A. degree in Business Management with a concentration in Finance. After college, he returned to St. Petersburg where he began his career in the insurance industry, receiving numerous awards and additional

certifications throughout the years. Currently, he is pursuing additional education in investment advisory management. Robert and his wife Tammy, reside in St. Petersburg and have two children. The key to helping clients deal with today’s economy and prepare for the future…education. Knowledge is power! With an uncertain economy in our future, many retirees and baby boomers are concerned about whether their pensions and retirement savings will last the rest of their lives. Whether you are already retired, or within five to ten years of retiring, you need to know how to protect your money and understand how tax laws will affect your retirement. In addition, there are often legitimate adjustments that can be made now to reduce tax liabilities of which many people are unaware. With roughly 10,000 Baby Boomers turning 65 today and about 10,000 more will cross that threshold every day for the next 19 years, many are looking for the answers on when the best age is to take social security, the thresholds of when social security is taxed and how to not outlive their retirement assets. “If clients are already collecting social security when they come to us they want to know how they can reduce or eliminate taxes on not only social security income, but their overall taxes as well,” says Ed Rizzotto. “We spend many hours with our clients to put sound plans in place by sharing ‘real time’ tax, income and social security analysis through some of the most sophisticated software. “We want our clients to leave our office with a better understanding on what their income needs will be in retirement, and how to control, reduce or possibly eliminate taxes.”

Ed Rizzotto Concierge Level Service While taxes are a large part of The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group, the majority of their clients also utilize the firm’s other services including investments, retirement planning, long term care, annuities, life insurance, wills and trusts. Clients have access to experts in the fields of taxes, finance, insurance, and the services of elder law attorneys who handle wills, trusts and overall estate planning. Ed says, “Clients like the opportunity we provide to get everything taken care of in one place.” “When people come in to see us,” says Ed, “the first thing we do is dedicate an hour or of our time to complete an overall review that covers the last couple of years, including going over their tax returns in detail, studying their portfolios, and discussing their important concerns to determine how we can help them. Then, at a follow-up appointment, we present a thorough plan for them.” The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group offers guidance to each investor based on their unique investment profile while focusing on their financial goals. “Many people are concerned with the economy right now and preservation of funds is very important,” says Ed. “Saving on taxes, reducing or eliminating taxation on social security and protecting the financial wellbeing of a spouse after another’s death – those are things that my clients are concerned about. Today, people also want alternatives to the low interest rate environment provided by CDs and money market accounts. Those clients looking for something more tangible to invest in are turning to us for precious metals and other conservative investment vehicles of which they may have been previously unaware.” Rizzotto explains that being involved with his clients in all the key areas of tax returns, insurance needs

and investments allows his team to keep a keen eye on each client’s bottom line. “We’ve had people who had other advisors and financial planners who convinced them to make changes, not aware of the tax impacts,” says Ed. “To me the tax return is the most important document the client owns, that’s why it is the first thing we look at when the client meets us for their initial appointment. If there is an investment or change that could cause a taxable event – we know that up front.” Retirement Planning…Not Just For Retirees While The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group’s area of expertise over the years has been working with retirees we also work with clients of all ages in the area of retirement planning. “You’re never too young or too old to start saving for retirement,” says Rizzotto. We have found that many people we meet that are still working have changed jobs about every five to seven years, and many of those people left their retirement plans at their old employers (i.e. 401k, 403b, and 457 plans, etc). Many of these plans can be rolled over to individual IRAs or Roth IRAs, thus giving the client more control and the ability to have someone to advise them. We feel it is also imperative for those people ages 59 -1/2 or older who are still employed to become educated on a very significant act signed into law by congress over seven years ago that changed the rules governing IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s and 457 plans, what their options are and what they can do to prepare for their family’s financial future. The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group is located in the beautiful community of Long Leaf in the Florida Design Consultants Center at 3030 Starkey Boulevard in Trinity. They also have a second location in Pinellas County at 1034 Belcher Road South in Largo. Call (727) 683-9119 or visit www.rizzottotax.com for more information or to schedule an appointment. Experience the Difference that Exclusivity and Privacy Offer at Cypress Run Golf Club By Julie Kanehl Have you been searching for a golf and country club that offers an exclusive and private experience, with a razor sharp focus on providing above-and-beyond excellence to its members? Cypress Run Golf Club in Tarpon Springs is a golfer’s dream, offering an award-winning golf course, a newly remodeled clubhouse and a highly dedicated staff. Cypress Run Golf Club is located at 2669 St. Andrews Boulevard, just a minute north of Keystone Road in Tarpon Springs. Its private gates, impeccably manicured golf course, and clubhouse restaurant and facilities have earned Cypress Run the phrase, “The Pride of Pinellas.” For more than 30 years, Cypress Run Golf Club has been a popular destination for golfers worldwide who seek a member-focused environment where golf isn’t just an activity, but the pride and joy of its very foundation. Today, Cypress Run is better than ever, and many members have even moved into the neighborhood golfing community that has grown up around Cypress Run since it opened in 1981. Tom Tripoli, Majority Owner and President/CEO of Cypress Run these last five years, has an extensive career in building and creating golf clubs all over the East Coast. In fact, he built or remodeled more than 50 clubs during his career before coming to Cypress Run Golf Club in 2009. Since that time, Tripoli has used his experience and his passion for creating an entirely member-focused experience to enhance and improve upon Cypress Run’s already impressive reputation. Tripoli says, “Our mission is ‘Providing the premier golf experience, supported by excellence in social programming,’ and our goal is to not just meet, but ultimately exceed our members’ expectations.” Experience the Playability, Power and Passion of Cypress Run Golf Impeccably maintained by Golf Course Superintendent and Partner Duane VanEtten, a multi-year winner of the West Central Section and West Central Region’s “Superintendent of the Year Award” – Cypress Run’s beautiful grounds have been honored

18

as an Audubon International Certified Cooperative Sanctuary. A top choice for members and their guests and families, from the back tees the course plays 7,001 yards at a tournament level, and the most forward tees shorten the course to 4,375 yards “without inhibiting the challenge.” Cypress Run’s Golf course actually offers seven sets of tees to facilitate golfers of all ages and abilities. In fact, it was built with that in mind by legendary golf course architect Lawrence Packard, who recently passed away at 101 years of age on Jan. 30. Packard oversaw more than 250 golf projects in his career. Having his pick of places to choose from all over the country, Packard chose to receive his Lifetime Achievement Award at Cypress Run Golf Club in 2012. His popular tagline, “Enjoy the game,” is not surprisingly, par for the course at Cypress Run Golf Club. Member Ron May said, “I’ve lived in Cypress Run for 20 years, and never get tired of playing the course. It’s always a challenge with a lot of character, and always in great shape. If you can play well here, you can play anywhere with confidence.” The golf course that Packard built at Cypress Run is an 18-hole, championship course which has attracted everyone from amateur players to the pros. Whether it’s because of its beauty or because of its reputation for being such an enjoyable course to play, Cypress Run has become a destination for players, couples, tournaments, and is even a US Open Qualifying course. Tripoli says, “We host qualifiers, and have hosted US Open Qualifiers, US Amateur, Senior Open, Regional, Junior and even high school golf. That’s what sets us apart.” He adds, “We are also the home to Palm Harbor University’s Golf Team as we believe it is important to support golf’s future champions.” Ron Salhany said, “I’ve been a member of Cypress Run for 30 years. I choose to be here because of the pristine fairways, greens that roll true and the course challenge that make this one of the best golf experiences in the entire Tampa Bay area.” If you love the idea of the private club, the membership and its many perks, but haven’t mastered the game,

don’t fret. Cypress Run Golf Club has hired some of the most reputable pros around to offer lessons, help with technique and conduct seminars. Lew Smither III, the Director of Golf, has had the privilege of instructing players in every category, from amateurs to Tour Professionals. Ranked as one of

From sports to social events, inhouse membership activities to preferred membership arrangements at places like Ruth Eckerd Hall and Island Limo, what it all comes down to is a lifestyle that is fun, member-focused, friendly and private. Ever heard the phrase, “Membership has its advantages?” Cypress Run Golf Club offers a number of membership categories to suit those who can appreciate the experience, ambiance, and the lifestyle that a club membership to Cypress Run Golf Club can offer. Voted “Best of 2013” for Pinellas County by the Tampa Tribune and St. Petersburg Tribune, Cypress Run calls itself the area’s finest “Private” club community. A bold statement indeed, but the members

back it up 100%. Derrick Brooks, former All Pro Linebacker of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, said, “Cypress Run is where I like to play, from the excellent course conditions to the outstanding staff, the Club is #1 in my book.” Derrick Brooks isn’t the only famous member of Cypress Run Golf Club. Heismann Trophy Winner and NFL star Vinny Testaverde, PGA Champion and NBC Golf Analyst Gary Koch, and LPGA Champion Jan Stephenson, are all members and call Cypress Run Golf Club home. Of course, you don’t have to be a star to be a member, although you might feel like one when you dine at their onsite restaurant, Larry’s, and their bartender has your favorite cock-

tail waiting for you when you arrive. Larry’s, just one of the many amenities at Cypress Run, is a fullservice restaurant that offers a private place for members and their guests to enjoy delicious meals, happy hour drink specials and live entertainment. While the menu is always changing, members know that they can pretty much order whatever they’d like to eat, and that the menus are merely a suggestion. That’s hard to beat! Cypress Run Golf Club has an energetic and experienced staff that’s always focused on providing an exciting golfing and social calendar, which has something for everyone. There are weekly organized golf games (including their incredibly popular “couples golf and quota games”), tennis courts, groups and clubs for everything from playing cards to discussing books, and plenty of live entertainment. Members enjoy access to the lounge and grill; great places to slip away for a romantic evening, to meet with friends or grab a bite to eat. In fact, Tripoli calls the grill and lounge, “the heartbeat of our club.” It’s not uncommon to see people coming up to the grill to chat before or after a game, while enjoying a drink and snacking on some freshly popped popcorn, peanuts, or snacks. Of course, it’s not called “The grill” for nothing! Affordable and delicious, there’s always plenty to eat at the club, from snack foods to full-course meals. Tripoli, who welcomes each and every new member personally, says, “We truly build pride in belonging

here at Cypress Run Golf Club.” Say “I Do” at Cypress Run Golf Club Cypress Run is the perfect place to have a bridal luncheon, a bridal shower, and of course, a wedding reception. Taking a completely personalized approach to each and every wedding, shower, Bar or Bat Mitzvah, or special event, the staff at Cypress Run Golf Club takes a special pride in making every event unique and personalized. Recognized in the local and national wedding magazines and websites, Cypress Run’s beautiful grounds, newly renovated main dining area, built-in dance floor and dramatic, second-floor panoramic views, offer couples privacy, exclusivity and class as a baseline to build on as they plan their perfect event. One couple raved about their reception saying, “[You] delivered on each and every item and I am so very thankful. The ceremony site was perfect and the bridal party suite with all of the special touches was such a nice surprise. I heard nothing but compliments on the ambiance, service and of course the food. Thank you again for guiding us and our parents through all of the planning. From what I have been told, three of my bridesmaids are now planning their weddings with you.” From making a special event to remember, to enjoying the perks of membership, it’s not hard to see why so many people call Cypress Run Golf Club “home.” Cypress Run Golf Club is located at 2669 St. Andrews Blvd. in Tarpon Springs. To inquire about becoming a member, call the office at (727) 938-3774, Mon. – Fri., 8 a.m – 5 p.m. Find more information at CypressRun.com.

We hear quite often how fair we are and that our offers are much higher than others, in some cases

Not only was Medical Center of Trinity built to exceed state-of-the-art standards, every room is private and every need of patients and their families has been anticipated and provided for. Fast response time was a hot topic around the table with members of the Cardiovascular Team at Medical Center of Trinity. These folks know that when it comes to heart attacks, every second saved means more heart muscle saved and a better outcome for the patient. In meeting with these dedicated healthcare professionals, one point was driven home over and over – everyone needs to recognize the symptoms of heart attack and act immediately, not hesitating to call 911! Leela Beers, MBA and Director of Business Development, Cardiovascular Services, advised, “People having chest pain tend to deny that it could be more, but you shouldn’t hesitate to call 911.
