Keeping Dollars in the Local Economy By Matthew Selby In today’s rough economy, small local businesses are closing their doors on a daily basis, while many big corporate businesses still have the investors and financial backing to pull through. There is nothing wrong with national companies by any means, but by spending our money in locally owned businesses we can help our local economy flourish instead of decline. When we spend money locally, we contribute to the wellbeing of the entire community. Local businesses build strong vibrant towns, linking neighbors in a web of economic and social relationships. Local ownership ensures that important decisions are made by people who live in the community and thus will feel the impact of each decision they make directly. Many local businesses recycle excess revenue by giving back to the community in which they live, which enriches the area and creates an even better place to live and love. Locally owned and operated businesses also create jobs and sometimes pay even bet-

ter than the “big guys.” Competition is not a bad thing. A marketplace of tens of thousands of small businesses is the best way to ensure innovation and above all, low prices. For example, there are hundreds of restaurants within any given city, some of which operate right next to each other. This is necessary in a thriving economy. Can you imagine if there was only one type of each business in each town? The price of a cheeseburger would be astronomical! Entrepreneurship is what fuels

America’s economic innovation and prosperity and serves as a key means for families to move out of a low paying job and into the middle and upper class. By spending money locally, we are putting money directly back into the community, therefore helping your family, your neighbors and your friends. Help out all of our ambitious and brave local entrepreneurs by spending money in their places of business today and watch the community build a prosperous tomorrow!

Opera Tampa presents Aida Aida, Giuseppe Verdi’s grandest of grand operas, will be presented in the Straz Center’s Carol Morsani Hall, April 20 and 22, as part of the Opera Tampa season presented by Homes by Helen. The opera tells the story of Aida, princess of Ethiopia, captured and brought into slavery in Egypt. Radames, a high ranking military commander, is torn by his love for Aida and his duty to the Pharaoh, with tragic consequences for both. First performed in Cairo in 1871, Aida has come to be the most popular of all of Verdi’s operas and one of the most loved of all Italian lyric dramas. The gorgeousness of the coloring in its pictures, the kaleidoscopic succession of brilliant scenes, the ballets, processions, the glitter of court life and “the pomp, the pride, the circumstance of war” unite with its music to make it an opera for the people as well as for the

more conservative connoisseur. The fluent melody of its score appeals to popular taste, while the technical skill shown in the arrangement of its general plan and the harmonious disposition of all its details arouse the admiration of the most critical observer. Aida will showcase a stunning international cast, as well as the Opera Tampa Orchestra and Chorus. In his final appearance as Opera Tampa’s founding artistic director, Maestro Anton Coppola conducts a company that features Rosa D’Imperio as Aida, Gustavo Lopez Manzitti as Radames and Stacey Rishoi as Amneris, as well as Gustav Andreassen as Ramfis, George Cordes as the King of Egypt and Mark S. Doss as Ethiopian King Amonasro. Joachim Schamberger will direct the production. Aida will be sung in Italian with English translations projected above the stage. Performances are Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, April 22, at 2 p.m. Regularly priced tickets start at $29.50 and may be purchased by calling 813.229.STAR (7827) or 800.955.1045 outside Tampa Bay, in person at the Straz Center Ticket Office or online at www.strazcenter.org.

Saint Leo University Donation to Pasco EDC takes Microloan Fund Over the Top Pasco Economic Development Council, Inc. is proud to announce a total of $220,000 has been raised for its new microloan fund program, thanks to a generous donation by Saint Leo University.

“The Pasco EDC is a valuable partner with Saint Leo University and the Donald R. Tapia School of Business. The council has worked closely with our business students, faculty and staff in helping companies grow,” said Dr. Michael Nastanski, Dean of the Donald R. In addition to the $25,000 donation, Saint Leo University will share its faculty and students to help evaluate projects and provide technical assistance to successful applicants. “Saint Leo’s donation to the fund has put us over the top,” said John Hagen, Pasco EDC President/CEO. “We said we would go when we received commitments for at least $200,000. We couldn’t be more thrilled to partner with Saint Leo’s award-winning faculty and outstanding business students to make a difference for small businesses in our community. Excitement has been building and the inquiries are beginning to flood into Pasco EDC. According to Hagen,

“The phones started ringing when we went public with our plans and haven’t stopped since!” On Tuesday, February 21 the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners is meeting to approve the fund’s lending policies and procedures so that Pasco EDC may begin lending as of March 1. The microloan program will not only lend money to small businesses located in Pasco County, but will offer free technical assistance and training to help work through the challenges of starting or growing a new business. “We believe that there are many people with great ideas and skills who simply lack the money and resources to get started — or to expand. We want them to succeed,” said Hagen. Loan applicants must be for-profit companies located in Pasco County, and borrowers must show they have the experience and resources to be successful business operators. Proceeds may be used for working capital, inventory, supplies, furniture, fixtures, machinery and equipment, but not to purchase real estate or to refinance existing debt. Fundraiser for Special Olympics of Pasco County Held at Trinity's Heritage Springs By Diane Galemmo A Night at the Races, a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Pasco County, has been held annually since 2000 by the Heritage Springs Association at Trinity’s Heritage Springs Country Club. This year it was held on Sat., Jan. 28. All proceeds, including ticket sales and donations from the community, are donated to the local Special Olympics. This year the event earned $16,887 for the Special Olympics. Heritage Springs is a gold sponsor and, other than the Pasco County school district, is the largest supporter of Special Olympics of Pasco. Special Olympics began in Pasco County in 1975 with 175 participants and each year Special Olympics Florida holds several major specialty fundraising events. Currently there are 900 registered Special Olympians in Pasco County. Competition is offered at local, state and international levels. The mission of Special Olympics is to provide yearround sports training and athletic competition for persons 8 years of age

and older with intellectual disabilities. More than 500 volunteers are utilized each year from local schools and the community. In Pasco County, more than 16 sports are offered to our athletes. In the fall season, there is bowling, power lifting, gymnastics and softball. In the winter, there is basketball. And in the summer there is track and field, soccer, volleyball, MATP, cycling, bocce, tennis, golf, swimming, equestrian and sailing. There is no cost to the athletes or their families to participate in the Special Olympics. It relies solely on donations and fundraisers to obtain the approximately $70,000 per year needed to run the program. Money is used to cover the participants’ registration fees, uniforms, transportation and ribbons. Donations also are used to purchase equipment and supplies needed to operate local games. All coordinators, coaches, volunteers and chaperones work from the heart. Night at the Races simulates a racetrack event where guests have the opportunity to bet on 1 of 6 horses over a course of several races. line. As always, there was a lot of excitement throughout the evening. This year the prizes included a raffle for gift baskets donated by residents and area businesses. Many other prizes were up for bid: Tennis pro Christina Hill donated a racket stringing and a free clinic; Dowl Yon at TOTE tennis shop in New Port Richey also donated a racket stringing; Joe and Norma Jean Goben donated a golf club; many area golf courses donated rounds of golf; homemade quilts were donated; a dinner package for 8 at the Bonefish Grill. All the prizes were bought and the bidding was very generous; for some of the items, bidding was up beyond what the item or service was worth. In appreciation for their support and fundraising efforts, which has raised a total of more than $150,000 over the past 13 years, Heritage Springs Association was named service organization of the year by the Special Olympics of Pasco County for 4 of those years. Tom Leopold, chairman, and Ann Poole, co-chair, of the 2012 Night at the Races event, thank the many supporters and sponsors who contributed funds and time to make this year’s event a huge success.

Ragazzi’s NY Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant By Kim Thomas If you are in the mood for a delicious New York style pizza or a hearty Italian specialty, you’ll love Ragazzi’s NY Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant in New Port Richey, located in the Pasco Square Shopping Center on S.R. 54. This cheerful, charming restaurant is reminiscent of an old-time Trattoria, where you’ll find a menu full of delicious home-style Italian cooking. The atmosphere is light-hearted with Italian music playing and a trio of ceramic Italiano “chefs” to greet you. Ragazzi’s has been in the same location since 2006 and has always been a favorite with local diners. Owners Joseph and Cristina knew when they visited Ragazzi’s as customers that this restaurant had the good energy and delicious menu that they were looking for. “We love the restaurant business,” says Cristina “We came in to eat [at Ragazzi’s] and saw how busy it was. The food was great. We came back four days in a row and tried different menu items and all of the dishes were absolutely amazing.” The couple pur-

chased Ragazzi’s in 2011. Joseph and Cristina both have experience in the restaurant industry and have taken everything that was great at Ragazzi’s and made it even better! “We added more appetizers and improved our sauce and meatballs,” shares Cristina. “One of our chefs has a grandmother from Italy and she gave him the recipe for her meatballs – it’s our secret recipe. Everything here is made from scratch.” That includes the delicious house-made sangria that is made daily . Ragazzi’s also bake all their bread daily, so everything is really fresh and crispy. Customers also appreciate that the prices are still great and the portion sizes are very generous. “We serve a lot of food for the money,” says Cristina. “People know us for our

great portions and we pride ourselves on giving more to our clients.” New Port Richey residents Sylvia Pacione and her dear friend Frances Steinbach are frequent diners at Ragazzi’s. “It’s one of the best restaurants in New Port Richey,” says Sylvia. “It’s neat, clean and the price is right. The two-for-$20 dinner is the best! We come twice a week sometimes.” Frances adds, “This place is just excellent and the waitresses are cheerful and

terrific!” That two-for-$20 special that Sylvia recommends is Ragazzi’s famous “Tour of Italy”. The Tour of Italy is a little bit of some of Ragazzi’s baked dishes together, such as: manicotti, ravioli, baked ziti, stuffed shells and a meatball. It is available until 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Choose two Italian specialties, such as the spaguetti and meatballs, baked ziti or the tour of Italy. There is no need

And our dough is a little secret; it’s the way we prepare the dough combine with our cheese that really makes the difference.” Ragazzi’s is voted the best pizza in Pasco County. Neapolitan round pizzas come in either 10’’ small, 14” medium or 16” large sizes. Pizza toppings are pepperoni, sausage, ham, bacon, mushrooms, meatballs, green peppers, onions, black olives, fresh garlic, fresh tomatoes, anchovies, eggplant, spinach, broccoli and extra cheese. Pizza Bianca (white pizza) is another popular pizza which has no sauce, but has a touch of garlic and is topped with ricotta, parmesan and mozzarella cheeses. For the kiddies twelve and under, there are four selections including spaghetti (with one meatball), cheesefilled raviolis with tomato sauce, chicken fingers with French fries and fettuccine alfredo. Like all other prices on the menu, the kids’ meals are very reasonable at $3.99 to $4.99. Ragazzi’s has a nice selection of wine and beer if you are in the mood for spirits, and of course, there is that delicious sangria. Keep in mind that Ragazzi’s offers catering to make your next occasion hassle-free and delicious. Where They Focus on Their Patients By Julie Kanehl When was the last time that you really thought about the importance of your eyes? Your eyes allow you to experience your life in full color, and give you the freedom and ability to explore all of your interests and passions to the fullest. Getting an eye exam and a new pair of glasses is more than just picking out the trendiest frames, and coupled with the technology available today, you have a lot of options when it comes to picking a pair of lenses that will help you see your best. That is why it is so important to choose an eye doctor who is educated, experienced and

22

dedicated to helping patients through the entire process. Experience and Technology The Eye Doctors of Trinity, located in the Trinity Commons shopping plaza on Mitchell Blvd. is owned by Samuel Teske, OD and his staff of experienced eye care professionals who understand the importance of seeing things clearly. Dr. Teske is originally from Nebraska, and is a graduate of Nebraska Wesleyan University. He later attended The Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago where he graduated with honors in many vision specialties including geriatrics, pediatrics and ocu-

In addition to his schooling, Dr. Teske completed clinical training at the Bay Pines VA Hospital, the Illinois Eye Institute, The Omaha Eye Institute and the Ehrling Bergquist Opthalmology Department. His schooling, background and practical experience in the field over the years has lead to a great reputation within his field, and he is believed to be one of the leading eye doctors in the Tampa Bay Area. A proud member of the American Optometric Association, the Florida Optometric Association and the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Teske is a Florida Boarded Optometric Physician who performs comprehensive eye care for people of all ages, including children. Many eye doctors will not see children under a certain age, and that can be a challenge for par-

ents who have children with vision issues. Dr. Teske also specializes in Dry Eye. Additionally, Dr. Teske offers emergency eye care with a 24/7 oncall service to help patients anytime with serious eye issues such as red eye or pink eye, foreign body removal or eye trauma and abrasions or scratches of the eye. Jessica, a patient of Dr. Teske says, “Dr. Teske actually takes the time to listen to your needs and concerns.” Seeing Results One thing is clear, when patients come to The Eye Doctors of Trinity, they receive an extensive and comprehensive eye exam for both glasses and contact lenses. The exam, which is done by Dr. Teske, incorporates the best technology available, including the new Optomap system, which is an alternative to traditional dilation of the eye. Dilation of the eye has routinely been done over the years by eye doctors so that they can see the overall health of the eye, which is extremely important, but traditional dialation only allows for a pinhole view of the eye. The eyes are truly the

window to both the soul and the overall health of your body. The Optomap can be captured instantly allowing Dr. Teske a 200 degree views of the eye, this view gives them the ability to properly diagnose and treat your eyes. The Optomap image is quick and easy which is great for patients who often dread having their eyes dilated, because of the time it takes for the eyes to readjust to the Florida sunlight. Michelle Hacker, the marketing director for The Eye Doctors of Trinity has many years of experience in the Optical industry and says, “We have a lab right here at our office,

and the lenses that we offer have been the number one selling lenses on the market for over 20 years. Wearing these lenses is like watching HDTV. They are digitally made and are individually created to fit precisely to your visual needs.” The technology of creating lenses for glasses has come a long way in recent years, and there truly is a world of difference between what was available 10 years ago, and what is available now. A lens just isn’t a lens anymore. More than choosing between plastic and polycarbonate, or choosing what level of scratch protection you’d like, choosing lenses is a lot like choosing a new television. Some lens provide much more sharper images than others. All of them work, but many offer different degrees of clarity. Some lenses make your vision so clear, that many people compare them to the crisp clarity of HDTV version of glasses. Other lenses change depending on how the degree of UV ray exposure (Transitions Lenses). Dr. Teske will take the time to really get to know you and find out what your needs are, and together you can find the best lenses and the best frames to meet your visual and lifestyle needs. One patient said, “I have been to [a lot] of different places and for the first time ever I found a doctor that gave me the right [prescription] for my eyes and also explained everything in detail.” Brand Name Frames, Affordable Prices The Eye Doctors of Trinity has an incredible stock of brand name frames including frames from labels such as Ray-Ban, Coach, Christian Dior, Versace, Gucci, Nike, Costa del Mar, Columbia and more. All frames come with a minimum of a one year

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

warranty, and there are many different styles and options available for everyone in the family to be able to look, feel and see their best. Contact lenses are available through The Eye Doctors of Trinity, and Dr. Teske is committed to helping his patients find exactly the right pair. One patient said, “Dr. Teske is an outstanding doctor with an excellent staff. I have tried for years to wear contacts but was unsuccessful until I found Dr. Teske and staff. They were very patient and spent two hours training me and several weeks trying various brands and prescriptions until we found what works best for me. They are all extremely friendly and professional, and provide excellent service. Their rates are also very reasonable. I highly recommend them.” The Eye Doctors of Trinity believes that everyone deserves to have high quality eye care, which is why they accept most insurance plans as well as Medicare. For those patients who do not have vision insurance, they accept CareCredit, which is a healthcare financing program. In addition to the Trinity location, which opened late last year, Dr. Teske also has a location in New Tampa that is very successful. Patients and customers enjoy having the flexibility to see the doctor at either location. The Eye Doctors of Trinity is located at 7813 Mitchell Blvd. Suite 111 in the Trinity Commons shopping center. Young Trinity Actor Gets Role in U.S. tour of Les Miserables

Joshua Colley

L

ongleaf student Joshua (Josh) Colley and his fraternal twin, Cameron, both “love entertaining.” But it was Joshua who auditioned and landed a dream role from among thousands of applicants across the nation. It’s a key role in the 25th Anniversary U.S. tour of the renowned musical, Les Miserables. Joshua plays the part of Gavroche, a young lad who becomes a street urchin when his parents send him out to live in the street because he would

26

have a better life there. Joshua will be singing seven songs, both solo and with the cast. When I asked Josh how he felt about this huge opportunity, he said, “I dreamed a dream and it came true.” Even at his young age, 10, Joshua has had a reasonable amount of experience in acting. Jim Wanker, his music teacher at Longleaf Elementary had cast Joshua in a student play last summer and he had a solo part in the school’s annual Christmas show. Over the 2011 holiday season, Joshua did his first professional performance at the FreeFall Theatre Company in St. Pete. He played the part of Tiny Tim in A Christmas Carol. He did 22 performances (he had no understudy) and his rendition of the little disabled boy on a crutch earned him raves. “It gave him a huge amount of confidence and some good stagecraft as well,” says his dad, Brad Colley. It is obvious that talent runs in the family. The twins’ mom, Robbie Lynn, has had several roles in produc-

tions at the old Showboat Dinner Theatre and has performed at various venues from Walt Disney World (she played Jasmine in Aladdin shows) to Ruth Eckerd Hall. Joshua’s twin Cameron also sings but he is more of a comedian and is into ventriloquism. He loves puppetry and has been studying with some master puppeteers in the art of puppetry. In 1999, the boys’ parents, Brad and Robbie Lynn, who live in the Longleaf community of Trinity, started the Playin’ Around Theatre Company (PATC). They own, operate and star in children’s productions which go on the road to various schools, libraries, theaters and other venues. “We write, we produce and we present all of our programming,” says Brad. PATC strives to produce quality educational and entertaining adaptations of classic fairy tales – like Beauty and the Beast, Rumpelstiltskin, Little Red Riding Hood, and many more – with singing, dancing and audience participation. (Jack and the Beanstalk

is currently on tour through May; see below for contact information.) PATC has also held performances at the Tampa Bay Performing Arts center in downtown Tampa as part of TBPAC’s “Wee Folks” series. “The boys have seen all of our rehearsals and performances since they were born,” says Robbie Lynn. “They know most of the lines and the songs in all of the shows and they like to sing along. Both boys have great voices. It’s like they were born on the stage.” Brad says, “Robbie Lynn learned about Les Miserables through backstage.com, a reference a lot of actors

Robbie Lynn, Joshua and Cameron use to search for upcoming auditions.” Robbie Lynn says, “We immediately did a video of Joshua and sent it, along with a quick letter, to the casting agency; the agency called us back saying they wanted to see Joshua in person.” So the entire family packed up and headed to New York where Joshua’s audition was being held. He had never been on a plane, or in a New York City cab, and he was a bit queasy, but by the time they checked into their hotel, the Marriott Marquis in the theatre district, Josh was fully recovered. Of the thousands who auditioned, it boiled down to six boys,

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

one of whom was Josh. The Colley family was still in New York that evening after the audition, and the boys were running around and marveling at their first viewing of snow. They prepared to head home, fully expecting to wait a few weeks before hearing from the producers. Then Brad’s cell phone rang. A producer was on the phone saying how much they loved Joshua’s performance. The producer’s exact words, recalls Brad were, “Joshua blew us away.” A contract would be forthcoming. “It’s unbelievable, we can’t explain how proud of him we are but he’s a consummate professional, the talent is there and the sense of professionalism he displays on stage as well as the rehearsal process surpasses his years for sure. He’s definitely a huge portion of the production. It’s a principal role for sure,” says Brad. Is Cameron jealous of his twin I asked? “No,” says Dad, “he’s proud of him.” Joshua will be missing about 5-6 months of school, but the tour has professional on-tour educators. The first performance of Les Miserables was at the Boston Opera house on March 13; the last will be August 5 in San Francisco. During those five months, the tour will encompass 18

cities throughout the nation. The whole family will be packing up and traveling with the national touring company for the five-month tour. “The main thing is to let Joshua experience this unbelievable opportunity, but for us as well,” says Brad. “It’s about keeping the family unit together. Even though Joshua is doing a professional production, he still has a home life, and a sense of normalcy to it.” When his contract arrived, Joshua told Mr. Wanker, and at his school the news spread like wildfire. Students and teachers congratulated him and wished him well. Joshua will have to join a union. His pay, which has not yet been determined, will go into a college fund. And back at the PATC says Brad, “Casey Wilson, who has been with us for almost four years now, will be helping us out with our company while we’re away. We have a repertoire of actors that we work with who will be taking our positions in the programming.” PATC charges a school or library about $400 per performance. It includes a 45-minute live educational musical production presented by live actor educators. It also includes study

guides for all of the programs that contain pre- and post-show activities, as well as the educational content presented during the program. One can call any of the theaters listed on the PATC web site, to get information about when performances will take place at a particular theatre, or the Colleys can bring the show to you. The PATC is located at 3803 Zachary St. in New Port Richey. For information, visit playnaround.com or telephone: (727) 376-0303.

Come and join the Angel Family! See what some of our loyal customers have to say! $75 OFF Deep Spring Cleaning Special ongratulations on 20 years in the business to Donna and her teams. Donna and The Cleaning Angels initially came to my home in 2010 to offer an evaluation of my cleaning needs. It took only one visit to recognize that their service was considerably different than my previous ones. Their reliability, honesty and dedication to excellent service has proven itself again and again. -Michelle Marquis, Clearwater, Florida

C

We have used The Cleaning Angel Cleaning Service for the past two and a half years. Every two weeks we are more than satisfied with the service especially with Ileah who has been the head of the cleaning team that services our home. Their work is a very thorough professional cleaning. They are always prompt, courteous, trustworthy and willing to adapt to our schedule. Along with the regular cleaning each time, they include the baseboards, light fixtures and ceiling fans, blinds and much much more. Our home is always sparkling every time. -Sue and John Kelly Wyntree, New Port Richey, FL I hired the Cleaning Angels over a year ago to help keep my house clean, so I would have time to pick up more shifts at work, to help make ends meet. On my initial interview with Donna Ferrante, she came to my home and we walked through the house together. She gave details of her business and work ethic and expectations for customer satisfaction. Donna and her staff are extremely personable and very professional. I feel like everyone cares if I am satisfied or not. The Cleaning Angels staff has gone above and beyond to work with my husband and my difficult work schedules. I highly recommend the Cleaning Angels to assist in housing maintenance. They do a great job, they are reasonably priced, and with the time I save from having to clean the house myself, I am able to pick up extra shifts at work and do other errands and chores. Love, Love, Love!!!! -Jennifer Mugianis, Tarpon Springs, FL We have used The Cleaning Angel for just over a year and I wonder how we ever got by without them! Our first meeting was with the company's owner, Donna; she made us feel very confident and comfortable about the service her company would be providing. Donna assured us that what was promised would be delivered because it was her name on the line. As business owners ourselves the message was loud and clear and we decided to give them a try. The Cleaning Angel has provided the phenomenal service that Donna promised and more. Our regular team, Ivonne and Anna are dependable, honest, pleasant, hardworking and efficient. They come in and get the job done. Thank you "Cleaning Angels" for making the task of maintaining my home easier on me! -Esther and Michael Halman, Crescent Oaks, Tarpon Springs, FL

Before I started with the Cleaning Angels, I had tried numerous cleaning services. I was never happy with the results until I met Donna six years ago. She actually was still cleaning herself at that time. Congratulations for expanding your business and making it to 20 years. The service is always excellent - they are prompt, efficient, professional, and their appearance is always great. They always have the correct products and equipment and their attention to detail goes above and beyond. My current lead is Ileah and she has been cleaning my house for several years and I just love her. I am very active in the Trinity community and have recommended the Cleaning Angels to many people. -Sandy Alekson, Champions Club, Trinity, FL

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

Nine years ago, I was looking for a cleaning lady and found Donna. At that time she went by Donna’s Cleaning Service. She cleaned my home herself for about two years. When she broke her foot and had to hire girls to help out, I initially was concerned. However that concern was short lived as Donna trains her girls to clean exactly like she does. Since then these girls come into my home and do their magic. I have many disabilities and they go way beyond to make sure that my house is clean and that I am happy. They do special things for me to make my life easier. I want to thank Sandy who use to clean my home and now is in the office with Donna. Congratulations for all your accomplishments Donna! -Fran Mischler, Port Richey, FL I have had the great pleasure of hiring and being in the company of the Cleaning Angels Cleaning Service. They are incredibly accommodating and have superior customer service. I have rarely come across a service organization that is so professional and extremely pleasant to work with. Every time "the Angels " come to my house, it gets better and better. Budget cuts have hit the majority of Americans, but I will give up other things before I would ever consider giving up "my Angels". -Tina Redmond, Keystone Bluffs, Tarpon Springs, FL The Cleaning Angel has been a consistent and dependable cleaning service, working around our family, house guests and home construction. They have been responsive to our special requests and once they know what we like, they provide great value added customer service. I would recommend them to others. -Susan Rolston, East Lake Woodlands, Oldsmar, FL I was looking for a cleaning service and was referred to The Cleaning Angels. I didn’t think they would come this far but called them anyway and they were more than happy to put me in their schedule. I live a 440 West and the girls are cleaning up this town. There have been a lot of unhappy people in the Clearwater Beach area and now word is out. We finally found the best. Congratulations Donna and so happy to have found you. -Katherine Sullivan, Clearwater Beach, FL As far as I am concerned there is only one cleaning service in the Tampa Bay area and that is the Cleaning Angels. They came into my home the first time and did a deep spring clean and was I ever blown away. I have never seen a cleaning service do the detail work these girls did. Donna sent four girls and they stayed for seven hours and my home is about 2700 sf. They hand washed all my baseboards, did the blinds in a three step process, washed every door and door frame in the whole house, moved every little knick knack and got into every little corner possible. Two weeks before I used a different service that promised a spring clean. They sent two girls that stayed in my home for 2-½ hours. After throwing my money away I was referred to Donna by someone in Land o Lakes. I’ve told many people if you are looking for your home to be cleaned correctly, don’t waste your time on other maid services. Call the Cleaning Angels if you want it done right and you will never have to find anyone else. Congratulations on your 20 years and hope you have many, many more. -Betty Bennett, Odessa, FL

Trinity Spine Center Takes Patient Care to New Heights here,” explains Dr. Jorit Wijnmaalen, DPT, MBA, MTC, who is the Director of the Trinity Spine Wellness Center. “One of the most important aspects of our patient care is the communication that we have with one another. We are never more than a phone call away and patients see that and really appreciate it.”

By Kim Thomas If you’ve ever suffered from spinal pain, then you have already had a glimpse of how debilitating it can be. Spinal pain affects virtually every aspect of one’s life, compromising mobility and body function. Sometimes surgery is necessary, but in many cases it can be completely avoided. When you need to be evaluated by a doctor for spinal pain, it makes sense to visit a facility where every aspect of your care is addressed in one location. Trinity Spine Center and Trinity Spine Wellness Center, located at 2040 Short Avenue in Odessa (just off of SR 54), offers everything patients need to get moving again, all in one location. Not only specializing in the treatment of every type of spinal disorder, the everexpanding Trinity Spine Center helps patients with a great variety of needs, from carpal tunnel to rehab for sports injuries, and more. Victor Hayes, MD, and Farhan Siddiqi, MD, opened Trinity Spine Center in November 2006 and in 2009 the doctors planned and built a state-of-the-art facility that is designed

42

to put the needs of patients first. Trinity Spine Center and Trinity Spine Wellness Center patients enjoy the convenience of having all of their care onsite – from diagnostic tests to physical therapy, chiropractic care, responsible pain management and rehabilitation. Patients also have access to the nutritionist/dietitian, who teaches them to make better food choices for optimum health. The spine surgeons at Trinity Spine Center realize that surgery is not always the only solution to a problem. Dr. Siddiqi and Dr. Hayes agree that their primary goal is to improve each patient’s pain and discomfort with conservative care, where possible. Depending upon the severity of the problem, spinal surgery may be the only option; if so, Dr. Hayes and Dr. Siddiqi are two of the finest surgeons in the region who focus on managing their patients’ care beyond the operating room. They have put together an exceptional team of physicians who work with one another to ensure that every patient is getting the best care possible. “We have a shared philosophy

Introducing Dr. Casey O’Donnell The newest physician of Trinity Spine Center is Casey J. O’Donnell, DO, FAAPMR DABPM. Dr. O’Donnell is a Physiatrist with specializations in Pain Management and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. He moved here from the northeast and even though he has only been with Trinity Spine Center since January 3 of this year, he says that he has already bonded with many patients. When I met Dr. O’Donnell, it was easy to see how his patients love him; he is open and friendly, with a kind demeanor that puts you at ease. Dr. O’Donnell is excited to be working with likeminded physicians. He has known Dr. Hayes and Dr. Siddiqi for a long time and was friends with Dr. Siddiqi even before the two attended medical school. Dr. O’Donnell completed medical school at the University of New England – College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002, followed by his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at UMDNJ/Kessler Institute in New Jersey, where he served as Administrative Chief Resident during his senior year. Bringing an extra dimension of care to Trinity Casey O’Donnell, Spine Center’s DO, FAAPMR, patients, Dr. DABPM O’Donnell specializes in the treatment of spasticity and dystonia, electromyography, and responsible pain management that includes medication when appropriate as well as multidisciplinary rehabilitation which empowers the patient to play a vital role in their recovery, helping them to achieve the most functional, productive lifestyle possible. Dr. O’Donnell’s philosophy is to treat patients’ pain with the best available treatment options and minimal side effects or drug interactions; therefore, he performs a variety of potentially therapeutic and diagnostic procedures to determine the needs of each patient and doesn’t accept patients solely for the long term maintenance of opioid medications. “As a physiatrist, my background is in rehabilitation and my goal is to get patients moving and back to a normal, active lifestyle,” says Dr. O’Donnell. He utilizes diagnostic tools such as EMG/NCS (electromyography and nerve conduction studies (for carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetic neuropathy, etc.) and ultrasound which allows “live action” viewing of the tissues. Some of the procedures he performs include:

He also holds a MBA from The American InterContinental University in Chicago, IL. Dr. Hayes and Dr. Siddiqi are both Board Certified in Orthopaedic Spinal Surgery and both doctors travel nationally teaching endoscopic surgery procedures. Both doctors perform surgeries at the Medical Center of Trinity.

Patient Appreciation Trinity Spine Center’s doctors truly appreciate their patients and make every effort to let patients know it, and in turn, the patients are very happy overall. “We recently did a survey and got back 250 responses and out of those 100 percent said that they would refer a friend or family member,” explains Dr. “J” Wijnmaalen. “And 96 percent say that the doctors spend an adequate amount of time with them.” Here is another statistic that speaks volumes: Dr. Wijnmaalen says that 93-94 percent of Trinity Spine Center’s patients show major improvement without surgery. Trinity Spine Center is hosting its 3rd Annual Patient Appreciation Day and Open House on April 7, 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Like last year’s event, there will be fun for all, plenty of good food and refreshments, an Open House, and informational lectures regarding chiropractic, nutritional and spinal care. Dr “J” is heading up the event and has some new things planned for this year. The Ironman competitor teases, “I exercise just a little.” In an effort to help folks realize that exercise can be fun and beneficial, Dr. “J” has planned a 5K and a onemile “run/walk/crawl.” He says, “We want everyone to

know that this is a fun, non-competitive event. I don’t care if they run, walk or crawl; our objective is to provide a way to get people inspired. It’s not about winning; it is about motivating yourself, saying, ‘Yes, I can do that.’” Participation in the non-competitive run is free and includes a t-shirt, and you don’t have to be a patient to participate. In fact, the Patient Appreciation Day and Open House is a great time to meet the doctors and staff of Trinity Spine Center in a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Trinity Spine Center accepts Medicare and most major insurances and is happy to accept new patients. Since opening, Trinity Spine Center has treated more than 11,000 patients. Trinity Spine Center and Trinity Spine Wellness Center is located at 2040 Short Ave., off of S.R. 54. The HoneyBaked Ham Store, the Easy Way to a Perfectly Delicious Easter Dinner

By Kim Thomas There is no need this year to stress yourself out trying to put together an Easter feast that will please everyone at the table, not with The HoneyBaked Ham satellite store nearby in Longleaf Town Center, just off of Starkey Boulevard and conveniently close to East Lake, New Port Richey, Odessa, Trinity and beyond. The HoneyBaked Ham satellite store will be open March 13 – April 9 for the Easter Season at 3104 Town Avenue, Suite 106, next to Havana Dreamers Café, which, by the way,

46

has a delicious café con leche that is definitely worth stopping in for. This year, if you want to spend less time at the grocery store, on the road and in the kitchen, and more quality time enjoying family and friends; you can order everything you need for a delicious, special meal, and all at a very affordable price! All you have to do is pick it up, heat up the sides, put the cake and pies on a pretty plate and the perfectly delicious spiral-cut HoneyBaked Ham on a beautiful platter and RELAX! It really can be as simple as that, no matter how big your party is. You can order everything from The HoneyBaked Ham satellite store in Longleaf that you can order from any of the full-service stores of The HoneyBaked Ham Company. Lisa Shippy-Gonzalez and Rudy Gonzalez own The HoneyBaked Ham Company of Port Richey, located in the Walmart plaza on US 19 N in Port Richey; Lisa says they plan to move

the store to Trinity in 2013. This industrious couple also owns Havana Dreamers Café in Longleaf; in the adjacent suite, they open up the satellite store for HoneyBaked Ham during the holiday seasons so that people in the area don’t have to travel to get their delicious holiday specialties. “We will have the same things here (at the satellite store) as we do at The HoneyBaked Ham Company,” says Lisa. “You’ll be able to see the hams and pick out the products you want just like in a normal retail store. We can make your Easter meal easier and everything tastes homemade – it’s phenomenal! What people fail to realize is that by the time they buy all of the ingredients and put in all the time and effort into cooking, you’ve lost time with your family and friends.” Even though customers can just come in and pick out a ham, Lisa strongly recommends that you place

“Dentistry” Continued from page 1 She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of South Florida in Tampa, and then earned a Doctorate in Dental Medicine from the University of Florida, where she graduated 7th in her class. A true Gator fan, Dr. Amanda stayed on in Gainesville to complete a Residency in Pediatric Dentistry through UF, and then moved back to our area to begin working with patients. After successfully working with patients in Palm Harbor for three years, she and her husband Gabe, who is the business manager, wanted to create a practice where she would be able to do what she loved while being close to home and raising a family. “This practice grows with me and my family,” says Dr. Amanda. She adds, “Being a parent helps me to better understand and being a mom is the biggest asset that I have.” Dr. Amanda designed her new practice with families in mind, and opened this state-of-the-art facility in 2009. Clearly designed by a dentist who is a mom, the waiting room and the patient care rooms accommodate parents, siblings and family members

Parents who wait in
