After working at different salons in the area, Hatcher moved her way up and became a corporate trainer for salons in San Diego. For many men and women, tanning is about much more than gaining a little color. After coming to the Tan Spa, clients feel more confident about their appearance, they feel refreshed, and they feel rejuvenated. Just a few minutes from East Lake and Tarpon Springs, the Tan Spa is conve-

niently located at 7813 Mitchell Boulevard in the Trinity Commons shopping plaza. Tan Spa is celebrating its One Year Anniversary, and let me tell you, this place is hopping. Clients come from all over town to steal a few minutes for themselves and they look great in the process! The staff at Tan Spa is highly educated about how to help their clients get the best color possible without burning, streaking or overexposure. Tanning technology has come a long way over the last few years; in fact, tanning is a true science all its own. Whoever said science wasn’t sexy hasn’t been to

Captain Dean Parks Classic Celebrating A Captain’s Life By Katie Thomas On March 30th, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., a close knit community of friends, family and fishermen will gather to celebrate the life of Captain Dean Parks by participating in a memorial fishing fundraiser being held in his honor. The Captain Dean Parks

Classic will benefit the late captain’s family, fiancé Amanda Baty and their two young children Marlee June and Fisher, and it gives local anglers a chance to gather ‘round, fish, have a great meal, drink a beer (or two), share fishing stories and honor Dean Parks. The tournament will be held at Marino's Marina located at 286 Shore

Drive in Palm Harbor. A favorite barbecue restaurant in Ozona, The Ozona Pig, will host an after-party. Captain Dean Parks was a native Floridian; he was born in Dunedin and raised in Crystal Beach. Dean lived for his family, Florida’s natural beauty and the adrenaline that comes with hooking a big one. He received his Captain’s license in 1998 and ran charters all up and down the West Coast of Florida, making friends, catching fish and enjoying his livelihood. Those who knew Dean recognized his love for the water as grandiose, but the love for his family was infinite. In June of 2006, Dean and Amanda welcomed beautiful baby Marlee June into the world. Marlee is the spitting image of Dean and has her daddy’s vivacious See “Dean Parks” on page 64.

By Diane Galemmo Trinity Rotary Participates in Purple Pinky Day The Rotary Club of Trinity is dedicated to the eradication of polio worldwide. On Saturday February 23, Rotary members educated customers at Sam’s Club in New Port Richey about the efforts to end polio as part of the international Purple Pinky Day. In 1985, Rotary International began raising funds in an effort to eliminate polio worldwide. Polio has not been a problem in the United States for many years, but this is not the case in many developing countries. By partnering with the World Health Organization and other government and private groups, Rotary International has achieved a 99% reduction of polio worldwide. Millions of children in polio-endemic countries know that a freshly marked purple pinkie means freedom from the disease. Gentian Violet is a topical dye used by Rotary International to mark

children after they have been immunized from Polio. This prevents double dosage. The Rotarian volunteers passed out information about Rotary International’s polio eradication effort and marked customers pinky with a purple marker as part of the community education effort. Trinity Rotary also donated $1,000 to the PolioPlus program. The New Port Richey Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon at the Spartan Manor in New Port Richey. Genesis School Food Drive Supports Healthy Families Program The Genesis Student Council members held their annual canned food drive to support the Healthy Families Pasco-Hernando program. The students are elected by their classes and represent each grade, kindergarten through fifth grades. The students join Student Council because they enjoy helping their school and community. Students learn to help those who are less fortunate. By collecting and delivering these items, students get a better understanding of the importance of giving, instead of taking. Still No Fix for Thousand Oaks/ Trinity Oaks In September 2012 our publication reported that the Thousand Oaks development, located on the northwest corner of Trinity Blvd. and Little Rd. in Trinity, had been plagued with unexpected flooding, dating back as far as late 2002. County officials are still plowing through solutions for this long-term flooding problem. A study conducted by the county in 2004 found that the roads in Thousand Oaks were not built to county standards; they were built too low because the developers used inaccurate ground water measurements taken during a drought and were compromised by rising groundwater in certain areas, causing the ruts and potholes in the roads throughout the community. Some retention ponds fill up quickly and don’t drain properly because they are a few feet lower than surrounding wetlands. Neighborhood leaders learned re-

cently that a key fix that could take six months before construction even starts. Officials say the project is “critical.” The project would be a new swale behind the CVS pharmacy at the corner of Seven Springs and Mitchell Blvds. The structure would connect drainpipes under each road. Much of the basin’s water flows through that point, which one county official called “choked.” Construction cost is estimated at $600,000. Short-term maintenance efforts are being undertaken at various points on the Duck Slough basin. The county has been working with homeowners groups to clean drainpipes and other structures at various points along the basin. Homeowners groups are largely responsible for such work, but some groups put if off for several years. Ron Levi, president of the nearby Trinity Oaks Property Owners Association, stressed that it is incumbent on the Thousand Oaks Association to stay on top of their master association to clean everything up. Officials stressed that the improvements would be designed to protect homes and major streets in the event of a so-called 100-year flood (the l00-year flood is more accurately

Trinity Area Neighborhood News

referred to as the 1% Annual Exceedance Probability Flood, since it is a flood that has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded in any single year) although they wouldn’t protect against a storm of the magnitude of Tropical Storm Debby which dropped 15 inches of rain in a 24-hour period, followed by several more storms in the next few days. Proposed improvements would help ponds drain faster and reduce the time streets and yards are flooded. An alternative focus would be on either constructing a ditch through a series of wetlands in the basin, or building a bypass to route water west along Mitchell Blvd. Pasco County officials say they sympathize with residents’ frustrations but emphasized there is no quick solution to the problems that plague the Thousand Oaks and Trinity Oaks communities. Permits for major drainage projects could take a long time to obtain. The county must prove that flood control measures won’t harm more people than they help. Early Childhood Center Commemorates Its 25th Anniversary The Early Childhood Center

(EEC) at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in New Port Richey recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary. And this children’s program has been run for all those 25 years by Cindy McKallip, a parishioner who was asked in 1987 by then-pastor Father Thomas Earner to start a children’s daycare center at the church. But McKallip didn’t want a daycare center. She wanted to open a school. Fr. Earner gave his blessing, and McKallip set up the school with two rooms, two teachers and 17 students, some of whom were the tiniest parishioners of St. Thomas Aquinas Church. McKallip, the program’s administrator, had taught four years at St. Petersburg Catholic High School before taking a 10-year hiatus to raise her two daughters. EEC runs from Aug through May, Mon.–Fri., 9 a.m.

to 12 p.m. An early drop-off at 8 a.m. is available with extended stay until 3 p.m. Special holidays are celebrated by giving gifts to the needy. On Valentine’s Day, for example, McKallip said that all of the students’ families decorated shoeboxes and filled them with Valentine cards, candy, and personal items. She says, “We delivered them to some well-deserving elderly people at a local Assisted Living Facility.” Today the program at the church at 8320 Old County Rd. 54 has 90 students, ranging in age from 2 to 5, spread across five classrooms. Some of the students are the children of previous students. Some of the staff have seen their own children and grandchildren pass through the school. The program retains its Catholic core, with daily prayer time, and faith-based charity projects, but it’s also welcoming to children of other faiths. Sometimes there are visits from the pastor, Father Mike Lydon, who always comes with a guitar in hand to sing with the students. ECC’s rates are competitively priced with schools of similar caliber. They are NAC accredited (NAC Accreditation offers early care and education programs the opportunity to See “News Briefs” on page 54.

Serves Up Delicious Fun! By Dara Tucker Trinity became home to the first TCBY Self-Serve on the West Coast of Florida on August 19, 2011, when owners Patti and Jay Silar opened the store with their daughter and Marketing Manager Jenifer Silar-Mills. Opening a local TCBY Self-Serve franchise idea first came to Patti and Jay about three years ago when they enjoyed visiting a TCBY Self-Serve store in Charlotte, North Carolina. With classic favorites like Golden Vanilla, Chocolate and White Chocolate Mousse and many monthly rotating flavors – all at 96, 98, or 100 percent fat free – it’s understandable why Patti and Jay decided TCBY Self-Serve would be a great business to open back home in Trinity.

“The Country’s Best Yogurt,” or TCBY, originally opened in 1981, and is the country’s oldest frozen yogurt company. The company has high health and quality standards that also appeal to Patti Silar who is a retired RN. Patti says, “TCBY purchases products that are of high quality. Fresh fruit is sanitized to meet TCBY requirements, and we don’t use frozen fruit because it turns to mush on our topping bar. Our canned fruits are in their own juices instead of syrup.” Jay Silar adds, “Our yogurts and most of our toppings are also Kosher and Halal certified. We want to meet our customer’s needs. Smile! You’re in Good Hands at Thompson Dental at Trinity! By Julie Kanehl Thompson Dental at Trinity is a state-of-the-art family and cosmetic dental practice that has been a favorite to many Trinity residents since its Grand Opening in the Trinity Professional Park five years ago. Since then, patients have been raving about Christopher J. Thompson, DMD and his kind, professional staff. Local resident, Gina Duffy, brings her family to Dr. Thompson and says, “Our dentist is awesome. He is very thorough, and welcomes any questions that I have.” She adds, “The hygienist, Dominique, was the best I ever had!” Dr. Thompson is a second-generation dentist, and was born and raised nearby, graduating from River Ridge High School. After high school, he attended Florida State University for his Bachelor of Science degree, and then he earned his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry at The University of Florida. Since then, he has been dedicated to building his practice and staying in-

volved in the community. In fact, Dr. Thompson is an active member in many dental organizations including the West Coast District Dental Association, the West Pasco Dental Association, the Florida Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He is also a member of The American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry. Dr. Thompson Keeps The Whole Family Smiling Going to the dentist is an easy and relaxing experience at Thompson Dental at Trinity, because the minute you walk in the door you are treated like a guest. The friendly and knowledgeable staff does everything they can to make you feel comfortable from the moment you walk in, and that even includes enjoying their complimentary juice bar. Their treatment rooms are even equipped with massaging dental chairs, which instantly calm any nerves and put you at ease. Patients are able to watch TV or listen to music while they receive treatment as well, so when the appointment is over, patients are truly smiling brighter and

feeling refreshed. One of the things that make Thompson Dental unique is Dr. Thompson’s willingness to treat people of all ages, from infants whose teeth are just budding, to adults who need dentures. Busy families love having one dentist to turn to for checkups, restorative work and cosmetic procedures. It’s also a testament to Dr. Thompson’s warm, whole-family approach to dentistry, that people of all ages enjoy going to the dentist at Thompson Dental. He says, “A lot of dentists don’t [treat] kids, but I tend to go slowly and take my time. I like to be able to examine everyone individually and treat them in the way that I would expect to be treated in their position.” Thompson Dental at Trinity has the newest technology like the ultralow dose digital x-ray machines, which give off as much radiation as eating a banana. (Did you know that the potassium in a banana actually gives off radiation?) These digital x-rays are an excellent tool, because any concerns that the doctor may have can easily

explains, “I tell my patients what I see, and educate them on what I recommend, and then I let them decide.” This no pressure approach sets Dr. Thompson apart, and puts his patients at ease. In addition to routine checkups, regular hygiene and oral cancer screenings, Dr. Thompson and his staff can help with a multitude of restorative and cosmetic dental concerns, from cavities and crowns to bridges and veneers. The beautiful thing about cosmetic dentistry is that it is an art form in itself. Dr. Thompson can take something necessary, like a crown, and make sure that it is functional, comfortable, and even beautiful. Dr. Thompson can create the smile that you’ve always dreamed of having by using bonding techniques, veneers, dental implants and more. Bonding is a relatively quick way to repair teeth while cosmetically correcting the way that they look. In fact, it’s a perfect solution for fixing gaps, evening up your smile, filling-up a cavity and even covering up tooth stains. Bonding can last a long time – up to 10 years, and is an affordable and attractive way to improve your smile.

If you are missing some teeth, dental implants are a permanent, comfortable and beautiful solution. Dr. Thompson also can help with dentures, including partial dentures, conventional full dentures, and even immediate dentures. Some patients opt for mini-implants, which offer dental stabilization for dentures that can now snap right into place. If you are interested in teeth whitening, Thompson Dental at Trinity offers two kinds of options for their patients. One is a traditional teeth whitening by using trays that are especially formed to match your teeth, and you simply add the whitening solution to the trays and use them as often as you feel the need to. Another option is ZOOM!™, which is done in the office. Zoom!™ uses a low intensity light that activates a specially formulated whitening gel to whiten teeth by 6-10 shades in just about an hour. Dr. Thompson says, “Zoom!™ will last a year or more at least, although it varies due to a person’s diet. Things like coffee, red wine, soda and dark fruit juices can affect how long it lasts.” If you feel that you need more than teeth whitening to finally have

the smile you’ve always dreamed of, Dr. Thompson can make that dream come true. This is an amazing time for cosmetic dentistry, because your smile can be completely made-over. He says, “I enjoy the bigger cosmetic cases. It’s a process that takes time, but in the end the results can be lifechanging!” Thankfully, no matter what kind of shape your teeth are in, and no matter how long it has been since you have been to the dentist, there is hope and a real solution at Thompson Dental at Trinity. If you are a nervous patient, Dr. Thompson and his staff can offer Nitrous Oxide, although Dr. Thompson says that most people feel comfortable enough that they don’t find it necessary. Thompson Dental at Trinity meets and surpasses all OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and CDC (Center for Disease Control) standards and accepts most dental insurances. If you don’t have dental insurance, they are offering a new patient special that includes an exam and x-rays for only $79. If you are looking for an experienced and compassionate dentist who

can treat the entire family, Thompson Dental at Trinity is dedicated to providing exceptional family dentistry and cosmetic dentistry needs. Thompson Dental at Trinity Family & Cosmetic Dentistry is located at 2202 Duck Slough Blvd, Suite 104 and is open Mon.– Thurs., 8 a.m.–5 p.m. and every other Fri. from 9:30 a.m.–1 p.m. To make an appointment or for more information, please call 727-375-2000 or visit Thompson Dental at Trinity’s website at www.TrinitySmiles.com.

Action Fishing Adventures, ran by Captain Mike Manning is your shot to hook a big one and have the time of your life on the glassy, blue-green Florida flats. Captain Mike received his US Coast Guard Captain License in 1994 and has run fishing charters from Homosassa to St. Petersburg and further south to Boca Grande. Captain Mike is a Florida native, born and raised in New Port Richey; he has spent his life fishing the local waters. Mike’s love and passion for fishing led him to evolve into a flats fishing, inshore, backwater, near shore fishing guide. Mike knows the ins and outs of the

west gulf coast waters like the back of his hand and is well respected within the fishing community. Captain Mike’s drive to catch speckled sea trout, kingfish, bull redfish, tarpon and snook is insatiable and has earned him a reputation as one of the finest guides on the Gulf Coast. Capt. Mike runs an impeccably kept 24’ Avenger powered by a stateof-the-art Yamaha 300. His Avenger is specifically designed to get you on the fish from the backwaters to the near shore reefs in the Gulf. “My boat draws just inches of water, yet offers a full transom and adequate freeboard to safely fish in most any condition,” explains Capt. Mike. “A high thrust electric trolling motor is utilized in stalking wary tarpon and a push poll is used to creep up on tailing fish in shallow water.” Rest assured that Captain Mike’s boat is outfitted beyond all Coast Guard Standards and decked out in the best gear/tackle you need; you’ll

I can honestly say it was one of the best fishing experiences of my life and watching that big tarpon jump in an awe-inspiring display of acrobatic twists was a beautiful sight that anyone could appreciate. Captain Mike says, “There is nothing like it when a bright silver tarpon weighing anywhere from 100 to 200 pounds clears the water by six feet.” Mike visits Boca Grande during tarpon season every year and hooks the big beauties during competitive tournaments. “After many years of tarpon fishing I decided to keep track of how many tarpon my clients jump during tarpon season from April to July in Boca Grande,” says Capt. Mike. “I thought this would be a great way to show potential clients just how good the tarpon fishing is in Boca. During the 2011 tarpon fishing season my clients jumped a whopping 513 tarpon, with the largest fish over 225 pounds! During the 2012 tarpon fishing season, my clients jumped 409 tarpon. In 2012 there was a small decline in the fishing due to weather conditions, but we still did great. This is why Boca Grande is world famous for tarpon fishing. There is no place in the

The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group “Your Partners in Tax & Retirement Planning” By Kim Thomas With the deadline for filing 2012 tax returns looming, it is the perfect time for those age 60 or older to take advantage of a flat-rate $69 fee to have their income taxes prepared and filed with a company that is trusted for going the extra mile for its clients. “As we age our tax returns become simpler, so why pay what everyone else does?” says owner, Ed Rizzotto. The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group, founded in 2006 by Edward G. Rizzotto, is much more than just a tax preparation firm – the company is comprised of a team of experts in the fields of taxes, finance, insurance and law who are dedicated to helping retirees save money on their taxes, protect their assets, and prepare for a comfortable future. With an uncertain economy in our future, many retirees and baby boomers are concerned about whether their pensions and retirement savings will last the rest of their lives. Whether you are already a retiree, or within five or ten years of retiring, you need to know how to protect your money and understand how tax laws will affect your retirement. In addition, there are often legitimate adjustments that can be made now to reduce tax liabilities of which many people are unaware. Not Just For Retirees Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group extends their $69 flat-rate fee for federal tax returns (state returns are included if applicable) to government employees and municipal workers, teachers, law enforcement personnel, firefighters and now active and retired military personnel of any age. They also pro-

34

Edward G. Rizzotto vide tax services to baby boomers and those nearing retirement who may still be working. With tax laws changing every day it is nearly impossible for the average individual to keep up. Seemingly subtle changes in tax laws can make a big difference in tax liability, and thankfully, not always in a negative way. Ed Rizzotto explains, “ It is imperative that baby boomers who are age 59 ½ or older, and still working be aware of how the Pension Protection Act signed into law August 17, 2006 changed the rules governing IRA’s, 401(k)’s, 403(b)’s & 457 plans and what they must know to protect them and their family.” It is also important for people to know about recent laws passed by the Department of Labor as they relate to disclosure of fees within employer retirement plans. These fees now must be disclosed to both employers and employees. Most people don’t know what they are paying in fees. I want to make my clients aware of the laws.” The Rizzotto Team Ed grew up in Pinellas County

and went to work in the family construction business straight out of high school. During that time, he also earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and, soon after, obtained the necessary licenses to enter the insurance and financial services industry. He started his new career as an agent for Allstate Insurance Company, where he worked for many years and was promoted to Agency Management, responsible for overseeing 22 agencies in Southwest Florida. Ed also served as both active and reserve duty in the U.S. Coast Guard for 13 years. In 1999, he joined a local retirement planning firm, where he helped hundreds of retirees over 6 years. He enjoyed the opportunity to benefit the community, and was determined to create a complete local business where he could help retirees save money on their taxes and better manage their portfolios, so that they could focus on enjoying their retirement years – and The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group was established in 2006. In 2009, Lorrie joined Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group as Director of Marketing. Lorrie Rizzotto already had an impressive career in the marketing industry. care, wills, trusts, annuities and life insurance. Clients have access to experts in the fields of taxes, finance, insurance, and the services of elder law attorneys who can handle wills, trusts, and overall estate planning. Ed says, “Clients like the opportunity we provide to get everything taken care of in one place.” “When people come in to see us,” says Ed, “the first thing we do is dedicate an hour or two of our time to complete an overall review that covers the last couple of years, including going over their tax returns in detail, studying their portfolios, and dis-

cussing their important concerns to determine how we can help them. Then, at a follow-up appointment, we present a thorough plan for them.” The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group provides conservative yet effective advice when it comes to financial planning and investments. “Many people are concerned with the economy right now and preservation of funds is very important,” says Ed. “Saving on taxes, reducing taxation on social security and protecting the financial wellbeing of a spouse after another’s death – those are things that my clients are concerned about. Today, people also

want alternatives to CDs and money market accounts. They are looking for something tangible and more clients are investing in precious metals with us and other conservative investment vehicles of which they may have been previously unaware. “ Rizzotto explains that being involved with his clients in all the key areas of tax returns, insurance needs and investments helps protecting their bottom line. “We’ve had people who have had other advisors and financial planners who convinced them to make changes, not aware of the tax impacts,” says Ed. “If there is an investment or change that could cause a taxable event – we know that upfront.” Client Testimonials Palm Harbor residents Olly and Vicky G. write, “We have just received the results for the first two years that we have had since taking your recommendations for an investment program to suit our financial and income needs. We want you to know that we are most appreciative of your assistance to us, particularly since we have increased our net worth each year while drawing the planned monthly income from our account, even with the sliding poor US economy. You have thoroughly discussed, in detail, our financial position and desires for our retirement years. You have answered our phone calls promptly and you have fully answered all of our questions. Frankly, we have never received such fine assistance and results from any of the numerous consultants that we have had over the past many years.” Russ and Vicki, a couple from Palm Harbor who retired in 1996, at first went with a big-name company. Unsatisfied, they started looking for someone who would be readily available to them. “Vicki and I got an appointment with Ed, and he helped us

get things changed over on a Friday afternoon as the market was going down fast. We got everything changed over before the big drop in December of 2007. As the months went by, we were very happy and we felt very lucky that we contacted Ed and his Group. We lost about one-third of our retirement before we went with Ed, but we would have lost two-thirds of it if we hadn’t switched. We now have yearly meetings to look at where we are and where we want to go. We would recommend Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group to anyone dissatisfied with their current investment firm.” Ed and Barbara J. of Trinity are happy they chose Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group. “We have been very happy with Ed’s handling of our portfolio. Before Ed handled our investments, we were involved in a losing mutual fund, which Ed suggested we sell immediately and reinvest in a Fund suggested by him. This new fund pulled us out of a hole, and we give credit to ED RIZZOTTO. Ed is always ready to help. He has come to our home anytime we ask him, to explain some of our questions. We have our income tax done by his firm and never have had a problem. All in all, our transactions with Ed and his staff, have been nothing but exceptional. We do recommend Ed Rizzotto most highly.” Ed and Lorrie Rizzotto, and the entire team at The Rizzotto Tax Advisory Group, are very committed to achieving their clients’ needs and goals while providing the complete services they need for a more secure retirement future. AutoWay Cadillac has Passion for Cars & Passion for People By Julie Kanehl For well over a hundred years, Cadillac has set the standard in the United States as a premier Americanmade luxury automobile, and generation after generation of car owners have relished the idea of owning one of their own. Cadillac was founded in 1902 and has been owned by GM since 1909. Cadillac’s All-Star lineup of product includes cars, crossovers, SUVs and trucks. They are sought after for their clean lines, look-ahead technology and American innovation. In a world where cars are starting to look the same, Cadillac blazes the style trail with effortless panache. The Cadillac dealership in Port Richey, a division of AutoNation, has been at its current location, of U.S. Highway 19 in Port Richey, just north of Gulf View Square Mall, since 2003. General Manager, Michael Stanton is very proud to say, “We don’t just sell luxury cars, we sell Cadillacs.” Just the name Cadillac, or even “Caddy” stirs a nostalgic feeling for many who grew up riding in their par-

ents’ and grandparents’ Cadillacs. They now have their own, or aspire to have their own, and Cadillac truly lives up to its reputation. The Cadillac brand is one that is unique, in that, there is no set demographic that wants to own one; it crosses the board, sets the bar, and exists as its very own entity. The Cadillac isn’t like any other car; it simply is best at being a Cadillac. AutoWay Cadillac Provides Great Value, Selection and Price Right now, the entire Cadillac Fleet is more advanced than it’s ever been, and customers enjoy being able to come to AutoWay Cadillac to get the amazing value of a Cadillac, at fair prices, and without the tussle of haggling. Mr. Stanton says, “We have the flexibility to work with our customers, and we offer market-based pricing. We go online and see what the market is currently selling for, and we try to beat that price.” He adds, “We try to get as much done as possible before you come to us, and by doing so we make

the car buying experience quicker and less stressful.” One customer recently wrote a testimonial saying, “Some luxury dealerships I have visited, have overbearing sales people. Not at AutoWay Cadillac. They were professional and courteous, and went out of [their] way to find me the right car and every available discount possible to get me the best

Best store and staff I have ever dealt with!” As Mr. Stanton explained, “the only pressure here is in the tires.” AutoWay Cadillac has a large inventory of 2013 Cadillac vehicles to choose from, and they start at just $33,095 for the new 2013 ATS Sedan, which offers all-new sleek styling, a

The 2013 Cadillacs are worldbeaters in style, performance and technology. Speaking of technology you must check out the CUE, which is the Cadillac User Experience. CUE’s tomorrow technology is here today and is further advancing Cadillac . Mr. Stanton described Cadillac’s CUE system saying, “It’s an Apple-flavored ‘infotainment system.’ ” CUE is exactly that, giving drivers an interface that is both advanced and familiar, that

includes an 8” touch-screen with haptic feedback, revealon-approach/proximity setting and other industry first technologies that let you work together. CUE’s intuitive interaction assists you in controlling up to 10 Bluetooth devices. CUE also offers entertainment options like HD radio and SiriusXM Radio capabilities. The reconfigurable gauge cluster allows you to choose one of four different “dashboard looks”. You just, have to see this! One customer recently gave AutoWay Cadillac a 5-star rating, saying, “We bought our car over a year ago and this dealership still checks on us on a regular basis. They have been awesome ensuring our complete

satisfaction.” Mr. Stanton says, “We treat our customers like guests, with respect and dignity.” Get Cadillac Service Even Without Owning a Cadillac Cadillac owners who have been coming to AutoWay Cadillac in New Port Richey for years will tell you about their great experiences with the service department, in fact, they more than talk about it – they practically gush. Service Manager Frank Rodelli has a reputation that speaks volumes. In short, he is experienced, knowledgeable and honest. One customer said, “The service staff at AutoWay Cadillac was great, especially Mr. Frank Rodelli. He was very professional and pleasant to work with. Sometimes when dealing with car issues it can be stressful, but Mr. Rodelli made the whole process a positive experience. I will definitely do business with this company because of the great service experience.” Customers also love the fact that the service department is open 7 days a week, making it easy to have work done quickly. The service bay is covered, which is an added bonus on hot Florida days or rainy afternoons. The

garage is a showroom in itself, bright, beautiful and clean. The service staff is trustworthy and focused on providing thorough customer service, because just like Mr. Stanton says, “It’s our people that make the difference.” The service department at Autoway Cadillac offers a price match guarantee on their tires, and they always offer three ways to fix your car. Frank says, “We like to give options. We give them a good, better, best option, and let them choose.” Another customer that reviewed their experience at AutoWay Cadillac wrote, “This was my first experience with AutoWay Cadillac and it could not have been better. I spoke with Frank Rodelli on the phone to make my appointment and met with him for my first servicing. Frank went aboveand-beyond to help me and I truly appreciate it. This is my first Cadillac and surely will not be my last thanks to Frank and the staff at AutoWay.” One of the best things about AutoWay Cadillac’s service department is that you don’t have to even own a Cadillac to have your car serviced there! They repair all makes and models of cars, so you can receive luxury service without even owning a luxury vehicle, because in the end – at AutoWay Cadillac, it’s about people. Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point Receives Full Designation as Level II Trauma Center Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point announces that the Florida Department of Health has awarded the hospital full Level II Trauma Center designation, marking the end of a year-long provisional period and commitment to trauma care that began in 2009. Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point is the only trauma center in Pasco, Hernando, and Citrus Counties. “For almost two and a half years, the staff at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point has been working hard to continue our history of providing the highest levels of critical medical care to our community through the development of a trauma program,” said Shayne George, Chief Executive Officer. “By receiving this Level II Trauma Center designation, we continue to meet the needs of our growing community by providing quality trauma intervention and treatment,” he added. The development of a trauma program was a natural step in the evolution of Regional Medical Center

44

Bayonet Point and is a very proud milestone for the hospital. It is a part of the HCA Florida and USF Health agreement for trauma care which supports local needs for trauma services through an affiliation with a major academic university and medical school. Trauma is the leading cause of death among Floridians ages one through 44. Florida’s death rate from accidental drowning among children ages one through four is the highest in the nation and falls are the leading cause of death among Florida residents age 65 and older. When serious trauma injuries occur, rapid transport, prompt treatment, and early rehabilitation of the trauma victim reduces mortality, physical injury, and financial cost. Florida’s trauma centers have reduced the statewide trauma mortality rate from 6.8% in 2004 to 4.9% in 2010 and provide faster treatment to improve patient outcomes and keep patients close to home and their loved ones. “This full designation allows critically injured patients to have access to

Celebrate Overlooking the Greens at Mulligans 2-Day St. Pat’s BASH! Sat., Mar. 16 & Sun., Mar.17–– It’s a great day for the Irish and “wanna-be Irish” when St. Patrick’s Day arrives at family-friendly Mulligans Irish Pub. The green beer will flow, along with an Irish buffet and live music beginning Saturday evening and continuing all day Sunday, St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th. Over 1,000 attended the 2012 celebration that spread throughout the Wentworth Golf Club’s pub, banquet room, and veranda, so 2013 is sure to be a blast. An Old Irish Manor overlooking the greens is the setting for the 2nd Annual Mulligans St. Pat's BASH open to all at the Wentworth Golf Club. This year's party will feature Corned Beef & Cabbage, Bangers & Mash and Shepherd’s Pie, Green Beer, Guinness & Drink Specials, Games and Prizes. Live Music with “Broken Roads” starts 6 p.m. on Saturday. The all-day Sunday St. Pat's BASH starts at noon and continues ‘til late with live bands, a $12/plate Irish buffet, games for the kids and raffles.

Students, families and retirees alike come dressed to celebrate in customary festive Irish garb, green leprechaun derby hats and other crazy costumes. Green Beer flows all weekend along with $5 Guinness Pints, $3.50 16oz. aluminum Bud Lights, and Jameson and Baileys specials. A Satur-

day Happy Hour begins at noon followed by 2-for-1 drink specials from 4-9 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge on Sunday only, which includes a free draft beer and raffle ticket for prizes; kids under 12 are free. “Wentworth is a unique, authentic setting to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day from its old-world Irish Pub to

its English Manor Clubhouse surrounded by the beautiful golf course. Last year we filled the Pub that seats 90, a new banquet room overlooking the golf course that holds 100+, a new covered outdoor patio with tables for 80, and another seating for 60 outside near the putting green,” says Proprietor Chris Murphy. “It’s all part of Wentworth Golf Club and makes for the prettiest setting you will find for a fun, family-friendly St. Patrick’s Day.” Sunday features games, raffles, “Most Irish-Looking” contest and “Most St. Patty’s Spirit,” a photo booth and a leprechaun in search of his pot of gold. St. Patrick’s Day remains one of the nation’s most celebrated holidays nearly 250 years after the first American celebration took place in Boston in 1762. While a few traditions have changed, WEARING GREEN has not, after all, on St. Patty's BASH at Mulligans, EVERYONE is Irish for a day. The center now has 10 teachers, including several who have been with the school since its early years. And they share McKallip’s vision for education-oriented programs that help children feel secure in their world and curious about life. The preschoolers learn science concepts such as temperature, magnification, weather and propulsion through the use of kits, toys and simple tools. They study toy animals and learn housekeeping skills in play kitchens. McKallip says, “Gross motor development is very important and we have various activities on the playground each day for 30 minutes and in the classroom throughout our day. All of our teachers expose our children to many, many types of literature. As we go through our day our children have many opportunities to engage in a variety of reading activi-

They play kidfriendly musical instruments, write stories, draw pictures and read books. “And some of them are reading Jane Austen,” quips McKallip. “Well, sort of. We have a block book ‘BabyLit’ version of Pride and Prejudice written by ‘Little Jane Austen,’ “Then she smiles and adds, “The parents are surprised when I tell them their kids are reading Pride and Prejudice.” After all these years, McKallip dotes on her students. As she passes them in the hallways or sees them in the classrooms, she smiles and greets each by name. “I can’t believe it’s been 25 years,” said McKallip, surveying the grounds one recent morning, enjoying the laughter and chatter of happy youngsters. “Our philosophy is that St. Thomas Aquinas ECC is the place where ‘Faith, Fun and Learning Begin.’ It is our hope that through open communication and ongoing dialogue between our school, classroom teachers, and families, we can provide experiences that will nurture each child and foster his/her growth and

Congressman Bilirakis, Champion of Veteran’s Affairs The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) recently named Congressman Gus M. Bilirakis (R-Fl), Vice-Chairman of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, as Florida’s 2012 VFW Legislator of the Year. At the ceremony held in Orlando, Bilirakis was praised for his work on behalf of veterans, including his successful passage in January of the House’s Bill 4057, the Improving Transparency of Education Opportunities for Veterans Act. H.R. 4057 enhances the Post 9/11 GI Bill; ensuring veterans have access to information that will enable them to use their educational benefits most efficiently and effectively. prove the lives of our nation’s heroes. The bill highlights available educational resources to help GI Bill beneficiaries choose the school best meeting their educational needs. It also limits the total amount of taxpayer dollars, which can be paid to senior VA employees in bonuses. The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the SpanishAmerican War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service. Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans’ pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. Its goal is to ensure that veterans are respected for their service, that they always receive their earned entitlements, and that they are recognized for the sacrifices they and their loved ones have made on behalf of our country. New Port Richey’s Hacienda Hotel Comes Back to Life Volunteers showed up in droves, 400 of them, for a community cleanup day early this year for the City of New Port Richey Hacienda Hotel’s

First Community Clean-Up Day. With support from residents, city staff, city council members, and business and community leaders throughout Pasco County, the community-wide project was an overwhelming success. Volunteers installed an irrigation system, planted sod, and replaced windows. As a follow up to the clean up, volunteers finished in February when they tackled painting the exterior trim, the exterior railing and fixing up the landscaping. Built in 1920, with a formal opening in February 1927, the Hacienda Hotel was originally known as a “Bit of Old Spain Amid the Palms” and was visited by some of the most famous celebrities of the 1920s, including Gloria Swanson, Ring Lardner and Clarence Darrow. Located at 5621 Main Street, the Hacienda was operated as a hotel for many years before conversion to an assisted living facility. The Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) purchased the Hacienda Hotel in August 2004, and since 2006 the Hacienda has been vacant. Now the City is bringing it back to life as its most prominent Community Treasure. On October 24, 1996, the Hacienda

Hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places. Yoga Happy Hour Returns to Cavalaire Square to Benefit Community Restoration Initiative The City of New Port Richey’s Cultural Affairs Committee is bringing back the popular free-guided Yoga Happy Hour in Cavalaire Square (Missouri Avenue, one half block East of Grand Boulevard). The last one for the season will be on April 9. The Yoga hour will be led by Faith Bevan, founder of Flow Yoga. Flow yoga is a term that encompasses several styles of yoga. What they all share is a focus on synchronizing the body’s motions and the breath. This synchronization results in a very steady workout, and it increases mental focus. This event is free and open to the public; however donations will be accepted for the Community Restoration Initiative. Participants are encouraged to bring yoga mats, blankets, blocks or any other items they require and water. All levels of experience are welcome. The Community Restoration Initiative is intended to restore culturally

vital areas of the city through a partnership between Cultural Affairs, the citizens of New Port Richey and the City’s Public Works Department. The inaugural project is the rehabilitation of Cavalaire Square, which began July 21, 2012, when committee members and volunteers came together to clean out the planters, make minor repairs, plant trees and install shell mulch. Built in 1998, Cavalaire Square was created to honor the relationship between New Port Richey and its sister city Cavalaire sur Mer, France. Many citizens are not even aware of its existence. This project is intended to bring new life to the square so it can once again be a magnet for community gatherings. The next phase of restoring the square will include: planting bougainvillea, climbing fig trellises, iron signage and lighting. Yoga Happy Hour is just one of the events that will add to the restoration fund. The Cultural Affairs committee would love to see the community support this effort to take an unused, unloved pocket of New Port Richey and turn it into a great place for gatherings and activities. “Tan Spa” Continued from page 1 running an impeccably clean salon, and taking the time to educate each of their clients, she decided to come back to Tampa Bay and open her own salon right here in our little neck of the woods. There are a variety of tanning beds at Tan Spa to help clients reach their perfect tan, and there are five beds and four tanning levels available. There are beds that bronze your skin, and there are beds that build on the natural pigment in your skin, and members rotate between beds every time they come in. Hatcher explains, “I tell my clients that it’s like cross-training at the gym, in order to receive the best results, you go back and forth.” The staff at Tan Spa knows exactly what each of the beds do for your color, and each person’s skin is unique, so it’s important to take into consideration the science behind the tan. They now have a Velocity Bed, which is a high-pressure bed that clients lay in for a short period of time. It has the lowest percentage of UVB rays, and it is the least likely to burn

you, especially if you haven’t been in awhile or you have very fair skin. For others, the basic bed is the sure-way to build on the tan that you already have. Achieving the Perfect Tan in One Day at Tan Spa It used to take weeks to get that glowing, bronze look, but now there’s a way to achieve that beautiful color in just a matter of hours by using a combination of Tan Spa services. “Most of my clients use a combination of all of our services, using hydration, tanning and Mystic Tan to achieve their desired result,” said Hatcher. The Hydration Station is an amazing way to relax, detoxify your skin and to most importantly, prepare your skin so that it will accept the best color. Used alone, it is incredibly relaxing, but in conjunction with the traditional tanning and the Mystic Tan, your skin is moist, soft and supple. The Hydration Station is a unique experience because it encapsulates your body, while leaving your head out, and delivers a vitamin-packed steam bath. Clients love being able to simply lie there on its vibrating bed, and unwind from life.

“Prepping your skin before you tan is what it’s all about. While sweating, your heart rate goes up, which allows the body to better accept the UV light,” says Hatcher. For those of you who remember the “Friends” episode where Ross gets a spray-tan, those days are behind us, especially because of the dedication of the Tan Spa staff. Hatcher says, “Our employees make our salon. We walk you through each step thoroughly, so you know what to expect with each service.” Individually, The Hydration Station, the traditional tanning beds and Mystic HD are an enjoyable and relaxing way to improve the color and feel of your skin, but when used in combination with one another, as a “cocktail,” the results are amazing and fast!

“More than Just a Tanning Place” Customer Linda Cody said, “Tan Spa has been absolutely wonderful! I love the hydration! It is great for easing arthritis pain. Ambria & the girls that work there are so caring. They’ve squeezed me in so many times. Best thing I have found in a long time! Also, you don’t have to be into tanning, the wellness package is awesome! The mystic is an extra bonus! Try it! You’ll love it!” While Tan Spa offers some of the most advanced tanning technology available, there are a myriad of ways to relax and unwind at Tan Spa. The aforementioned Hydration Station is a popular spa choice, along with their Hydromassage Bed. Imagine being massaged by hundreds of water jets without even getting wet! The Hydromassage is the perfect way to relax. All you have to do is slip off your shoes, lie on the waterbed, set the music to play and enjoy. You can get a traveling full-body Hydromassage for any amount of time that you desire, and many people like to use this option in combination with the other amazing tan and spa possibilities at Tan Spa. One of the most exciting spa op-

tions at Tan Spa is the Fit Body Wrap. There are a lot of benefits to the Fit Body Wrap, and customers love that you can burn up to 1,400 calories in just one session, reduce cellulite, reduce toxins in the body and lose inches quickly. The Fit Body Wrap is a self-administered service that uses a thermal wrap to deliver 130-degree heat and invisible infrared light to the body. The infrared light is not only safe for the body, but is helpful to those who experience chronic back pain, fibromyalgia and more. Michelle Pearson said, “Tan Spa is the greatest! I was stressed out with a lot of tension on my neck for months. No more tension! Lost some weight, too! Spa section is awesome! Everyone here is helpful and friendly. Everyone should try all of the services at least once!” Tan Spa customer, Stephanie Flett said, “I’ve lost 8 pounds in [the] Fit Bodywrap in 1 month. My bad back and shoulders feel 10 times better when I get out! Plus my tan looks great with the hydration. It lasts to the point that I only have to tan 1-2 times per week! Not to mention the stuff is top notch!”

When asked what she would like to share with Trinity, Hatcher said, “At this point, I think we've done a great job at portraying a clean and professional tanning salon with great customer service. I'd like to invite everyone in to experience the other side of the salon. The relaxing side. The spa side where you get that time to pamper YOURSELF! Not your kids, spouse, or other people in your life that are important to you. Take that time to treat yourself for all the hard work that you do and let us provide a place for you to accomplish that.” Tan Spa offers all of these great services at competitive and affordable a la carte and membership prices, and they are happy to give tours to new clients. They also have a nice selection of products available that can help moisturize your skin and accelerate your tan. Tan Spa is located at 7813 Mitchell Blvd. in Trinity and is open: Mon.–Thurs., 9 AM–10 PM; on Fri., 8 AM–8 PM; on Sat., 8 AM–6 PM; and 9 AM–6 PM on Sun. Walk-Ins are welcome. “Dean Parks” Continued from page 3 personality. In 2008, Dean and Amanda were blessed with sweet baby Fisher Dean, a handsome, blue-eyed doll. Dean always wanted to raise a family in Crystal Beach and many would say that he was “living his dream.” Amanda says, “Dean loved his kids more than life itself and he spent so much time teaching them how to fish, ride their bikes, skateboard and of course…dance like James Brown! He was the proudest father in Palm Harbor and if you questioned that, he would have set you straight.” Dean was truly a man who loved his community. There was never a time when I saw Dean that he didn’t have a smile on his face. His joy for life was infectious. “In the past few years, Dean has worked closely with the Palm Harbor Recreation Center to build a large attendance for summer fish camps. He wanted to give kids who maybe otherwise would have never had the opportunity, to get out on the water, experience all that Florida's waters have to offer and catch some fish,” says Amanda. “Whether he was teaching the kids how to throw a cast net or how to tie a knot, he enjoyed every minute of it. Dean always said that those were memories they will have for a lifetime. I hope the kids had as much fun as he did!” Dean loved life and his passion for

his community, family and honoring his Florida native roots really made him a one-of-a-kind guy. On January 10th Dean suffered a massive heart attack while at home with his family and passed away. Amanda is raising Marley and Fisher to honor the life Dean always wanted them to have; a life full of joy, fun, happiness and love, helping them to grow up as happy as Dean did. Dean was a rich man; rich in life, laughter, community, friends, fishing and family. Dean led a well-lived life that deserves a celebratory catch. Capt.
