Horse Rescue, an amazing non-for-profit organization, has been rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing horses for the past 35 years. “Our mission is to bring people who love horses together with the horses we love,” says Glenda Smith the founder of Equestrian Inc. I later found out about how overly bred their breed was and how so many people were just abandoning them and turning them loose in the state forest. Sue said, “It was important to me to be able to help the people in our community.” The 4th Annual Drive Away Cancer Golf Outing will be held on Sunday, March 30 at Seven Springs Golf & Country Club.

All of these can be prepared using their sweet and sour recipe, which includes being sautéed in tomatoes, cucumbers, pineapples, white onions and bell peppers and served in sweet and sour tomato sauce. Chieopanich says, “Thai food is cooked differently than other kinds of food, our technique is different, uses less oil. It’s lighter and not as heavy. In recent years, Equestrian Inc. Horse Rescue has transitioned to helping more and more off the track Thoroughbred horses, whom if not for Equestrian Inc. would otherwise be destined for uncertain futures. Through Bob Jeffries, head of the HBPA at Tampa Bay Downs, trainers frequently contact Equestrian Inc. to give their former racehorses the opportunity of a second career rather than turning them over to individuals who do not have their best interest at heart. Unfortunately, horse slaughter is a major concern in this area and throughout the United States. Glenda also reaches out to the community and encourages horse owners to call her if they are longer able to provide proper care for their horses, whether it be because of monetary problems, health-related issues, or any other reason. Her organization works with the Sheriff’s Office and tries to

help people who can no longer afford to feed their horses. In addition, Equestrian Inc. works in conjunction with other horse rescues in the area, and if they are unable to take your horse they will help you find a place that will. Founded upon Glenda’s love of horses, Equestrian Inc. is 100% volunteer run and operates solely on support from people in the community through monetary donations, volunteering, sponsorship of horses, and donation of services. Glenda is adamant about giving back to her community and does a lot of work with underprivileged children, as well as handicapped children. Throughout the year she also takes a few of her horses and ponies to schools in Tampa Bay and allows the children to groom them. She also spends a lot of time educating youths about these magnificent creatures, and teaches them how to properly care for a horse. FC Tampa Rangers Soccer Club – It’s a Total Kick! By Marcy Sanford Since 2011, the FC Tampa Rangers Soccer Club has been steadily growing under the direction of Club Manager Mike Connell. Mike, who is a former soccer player for the Tampa Bay Rowdies, wanted to make sure that children grew up enjoying the game and learning how to work together as a team. “We have created a vibrant, local community club for children 5 to 18 years old. We have a recreation league for children who want to just play for fun and competitive teams that have become some of the top teams in Florida in just 3 years. Overall, we want this club to be for the kids. We have created a positive environment where our players love coming to the fields to see their friends, practice, and learn the fundamentals of soccer. We teach them to respect the game and each other. We want to challenge our participants to be better players and people.” Since its opening, the FC Tampa Rangers Soccer Club has grown to 29 different teams with more than 390

players. Mike sees the club having a positive effect not just on the children who play but also on their community as a whole. “My son Zach, has been with the club since it’s beginning in Lutz,” says Michael Board. “At 8 years old, it was his first exposure to soccer, after having played football and baseball at younger ages. It has been important to me that he learns the game the right way and develops his skills under the guidance of a knowledgeable coach. In addition to building a first class program, Mike Connell places passion for the game, development, honor, and respect as the key values for all players in the club. Under Coach Connell’s watchful eye, Zach’s skills have flourished and his team has enjoyed much success on the pitch. As a family, we are enjoying the experience with a fantastic group of young men and their families building friendships that extend beyond the soccer pitch.” Carlos Flores has also been impressed by the skills his son has learned not just for playing soccer but also for life. “My son Ian Flores plays for the

We are so pleased with not only her progress but our son’s too. They both are extremely happy at the Rangers. Southeastern Guide Dogs is one of ten accredited guide dog schools in the US and the only one in the southeast. “The amount of support we get from the community and our extended Southeastern family is astounding.
