just say the house we stayed at was all we could ask for and more; the perfect combination of Keys charm and comfortable luxury living. Nestled on nearly three acres of beautifully landscaped property on the Florida Gulf, complete with a tidal pool full of wildlife and boasting breathtaking views of the open Gulf waters and the most magnificent sunsets one could possibly imagine, the house was an absolute dream. Not to mention, it was located on the gulf side, right near the Vaca cut, so we had the best of both worlds – the serenity and peacefulness of the gulf waters and instant access to the ocean for fishing and snorkeling on the coral reef.

Found abundantly throughout the Florida Keys and the southern tip of the state, the Florida Spiny Lobster is a seafood delicacy and just one of the many reasons we decided to vacation to the Keys. Community News Briefs Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team Honors Local Heroes with Free Water Ski Show The Tampa Bay Water Ski Show Team will once again honor local fire, police and service personnel by performing a special Patriot Day show at their home site on Saturday, September 8 at 6:00 p.m. This annual event has grown to become a fan favorite.

As Southern Regional Water Ski Show Champions for the tenth year in a row, the team will perform many of the same great acts which earned them the title for so many years.

Barefooters, jumpers, ballet lines and pyramids are among the many acts that continue to bring world class entertainment to local audiences. For the Patriot Day Show special event, several community leaders will be on hand to pay tribute to our local he-

If you can’t make it to the Patriot Day show, be sure and mark your calendar for another Saturday night as shows are held weekly at 6:00 p.m. through mid October.

Special night shows will be held on October 20 and 27 at 7:00 p.m. All shows are always free! Shaded seating is available and concessions are available for purchase. “Florida Keys” Continued from page 1 some lobsters – we had great success, and found some of the biggest lobsters we had ever seen!

Another reason we chose the Florida Keys was for the deep-sea fishing, as the Keys offer some of the most diverse and plentiful sport fishing in the world. Our fish of choice was the Dorado (better known as Mahi Mahi) – in my opinion one of the most exciting fish to catch and certainly one of the best tasting – and within two days of fishing we had enough Mahi Mahi to feed the entire family, all 14

of us, and were even left with a plentiful amount to take home.

Wahoo, one of the fastest fish in the ocean – reaching record speeds of nearly 50 mph – was another fish we had the pleasure of coming across, and with expert skill and fishing technique my husband was able to catch this 40 pound, 54 inch beauty.

The Florida Keys are widely recognized for their abundant aquatic wildlife and exquisite coral reefs and if you visit Marathon, Sombrero Reef is a must-see adventure. Sombrero Reef Marine Sanctuary and Lighthouse, a traditional favorite of Marathon, is just one of the many beautiful reefs that the Florida Keys has to

offer, and features 30 acres of coral reef ranging from 2 – 30 feet deep and thousands of tropical fish. Ideal for kids, beginners and swimmers of all ages, Sombrero Reef is great for the entire family.

As a group of 14, ranging in age from five to older adult, it is not always easy to please everyone, but this house and destination managed to do just that and more, and the experiences we shared made for a wonderful vacation full of memories we will cherish forever.
