Expressions Cosmetic & Family Dentistry is not only super convenient to all of the neighborhoods in the East Lake area – it is located just off of East Lake Road on Ridgemoor Boulevard – but it also is home to a dedicated team of professionals handpicked by Lyndsay McCaslin, DMD, for their individual abilities and shining personalities. There is a reason that Dr. McCaslin’s practice has grown so much that she has needed to bring in new members to her team and extend her hours. Expressions Cosmetic & Family Dentistry has become the fa-

vorite dental office for many families because of the top-notch dental care provided that is softened by a comfortable atmosphere and genuine care. I know because I am a patient, too. Many places will claim that they treat you like family, but Dr. McCaslin actually said to me when discussing my treatment plan, “If you were my sister, this is what I’d tell you to worry about first...” It was actually my sister who recommended Dr. McCaslin. She wrote the first article that Neighborhood News & Lifestyles ever ran for Expressions Cosmetic & Family Dentistry back in 2011. She told me then, “If you ever need a new dentist,

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

By Matt Selby As you all know, for the past couple months we have been running a contest for our readers. While we have been giving away free press level Tampa Bay Rays’ game tickets to the winners, our readers have given back to us as well. Literally thousands upon thousands of you have entered our contest. We do have 5 separate Neighborhood News and Lifestyles magazines here in the Bay area, so we knew we would get a pretty good response considering we are mailed to more than 80,000 homes in total but when we received over 10,000 entries in the first month, even we were surprised and humbled by the gigantic interaction. We engaged in countless email, phone and even face-to-face conversations with many of our readers. While it was great to hear how much

our readers love what we do, we always ask what they think we can do better. The usual response of wanting to see more coupons, more dining features and more pages is a given. Trust me guys, we want the same thing too! We did hear some things, however, that we can put into action right away! The first suggestion that we decided to put into action was a new logo. After at least 10 people said our logo looked dated it got us thinking about a change. After over 20 people suggested a fresh new look we had a meeting and decided to modernize our Neighborhood News and Lifestyles brand. My dad created the design for our logo using red block print in the 90s and let’s be honest, the logo screams 90s! We all know obnoxious, loud and in-your-face was “the thing” in the 90s but these days more and more companies are reap-

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

ing the benefits of brand recognition by incorporating clear, crisp logos. We wanted to go with something professional, clean and classy. Tony and Ashley Sica, a very talented husband and wife design team who just so happen to be a crucial part of our Neighborhood News and Lifestyles family came up with this new logo and we couldn’t be happier! We hope you like the new look. The second suggestion we took to heart dealt with the name of our website. Since we started this Rays’ tickets contest we’ve had in excess of 50,000 unique visitors to our website each month and over 500,000 page views! Again, while that number is fantastic, if we can do better we are going to do everything in our power to make that happen. Many readers told us the old website was too long and that was the primary cause for typos while searching for us. We decided to make it super easy. The new website is www.NNLFlorida.com and that changes our email as well to info@NNLFlorida.com for advertising and general information, and for editorial submissions you can email editorial@NNLFlorida.com. We hope you guys like these new changes as much as we do!

Look and Feel Your Very Best with Nutri-Vita of Florida By Julie Kanehl Let’s be honest, how many of us are eating the right way? We’d love to say with a straight face that we’re eating enough fruit and vegetables, working out regularly and getting enough sleep, right? But the truth of the matter is that most of us live frantic, busy lives, and eating healthy is often one of the casualties. Some of the other casualties are how we feel, and even how we look! Your skin is your largest organ, and often is one of the first to suffer from an unhealthy diet. Even if we do eat well, are we getting enough of the right nutrients? Did you know that when orange juice is pasteurized it is exposed to heat? Maybe you did. But did you know that heat kills Vitamin C? What about veggies; did you know that when you cook them until they are soft that they lose many of their nutrients? As a result, doctors, scientists and even politicians are weighing in our health, weight and food choices. Vitamins and supplements are a popular choice to make sure that we get the nutrients that we need, because one thing

10

is certain, we’re not getting the nutrients we need. It’s overwhelming when you start to look into it. What are we putting in our bodies? A safe, affordable and life-changing option is choosing a dietary supplement. But what if those supplements are chemically enhanced versions of the natural nutrients they claim to provide? It’s hard to know what to choose, but not all supplements are created equal, and Nutri-Vita of Florida is providing world-renowned products that are 100% natural, and 100% good for you! Nutri-Vita of Florida is a family business based out of Palm Harbor, and operated by Ula and Rich Grocholski. Their website is exclusively offering two product lines straight from Europe that you’re going to want to try. Nutri-Vita of Florida is the exclusive distributer in the United States of NUTRIVI brand of 100% all-natural supplements, and LARENS brand of paraben-free skin care products. NUTRIVI and LARENS are manufactured in Poland via a company called Well-U, which Ula and her son, Rafael, established when Ula still lived

in Poland. Today, Rafael manages WellU and has helped to make NUTRIVI and LARENS products some of the most popular products in Europe and even Asia. Why? Because it works! Would feeling better and looking younger change your life? Nutri-Vita of Florida is ready to provide you with products that are backed up with science, and proven results from users. Nutri-Vita – Products You Can Trust The formulations for NUTRIVI and LARENS were developed by a group of scientists under the direction of Prof. Andrew Frydrych, MD, PhD, who is the Director of the Department of Human Physiology at the Medical University in Gdansk, Poland. Dr. Frydrych is famous for his integrative and holistic approach, and his policy is to treat the whole body and focus on prevention, instead of trying to put a mask or a band-aid on a problem later. As a result, his formulations do not include any synthetic ingredients that can be harmful to the body, whether taken as a supplement or topically applied as a skin care product, and instead are based

Ula and Rich Grocholski on natural ingredients that restore health to the inside and outside of the body. While some supplements throw out the baby with the bath water, these products contain ingredients such as natural collagen, peptides, proteins, amino acids and plant-based and foodbased extracts. TRIVI supplements contain vitamins, biopeptides, amino acids and lipid compounds that help the body to function, look and feel better. These products are designed to protect your body by strengthening the immune system and boosting your body’s vitality. Nutri-Vita of Florida offers two supplements, the first is NUTRIVI’s 100% Natural Vitamin C, which is made from the extracts of three kinds of berries that have a very high content of natural vitamin C. Sound like science fiction? Well, it’s not fiction-it’s scientific fact. Another fact: Almost all vitamin C sold today is made of synthetic “ascorbic acid” which is only a part of the whole vitamin C molecule. Rich says “Synthetic vitamin C in the form of ascorbic acid can be harmful to your body because the acidity can make the body toxic over time.” He adds, “Vitamin C is depleted by UV rays from the sun, by smoking and by stress, and people exposed to such conditions need extra Vitamin C from natural supplements.” Ula explains further, saying “Humans can’t produce Vitamin C, although dogs and other animals can! That’s why we need to make sure we have it in our diet.” Their second supplement is NU-

Sashimi-Tini close, Hot Tuna features half-price appetizers paired with two-for-one Saketinis and Sake Sangria, $2 domestics, $3 imports and $2 house wines. There is a delicious array of appetizers to choose from. Three appetizers are from the sushi bar including: Tuna Tataki (sesame-seared tuna with

tangy citrus ponzu sauce); Hi-Five (with rice) consisting of fresh tuna, salmon, whitefish, shrimp and krabstick nigiri; and Sashimi-Tini, which is served without rice and features tuna, salmon and whitefish sashimi served in a martini glass. Or, there are many appetizers from the kitchen. Recently I tried the Singapore Lettuce Wrap, a fresh, delicious choice comprised of diced chicken, water chestnuts and shitake mushrooms in a teriyaki glaze served with two types of sauces – yum! I love crab cakes, and the Panko Crusted Crab Cakes were a delicious diversion from the usual patty with blue crab claw meat, crawfish salad, paprika and aioli sauce. Another one that I loved and my son devoured was the Sirloin Negimaki, made with bitesized sirloin medallions filled with a delicious blend of veggies. Another real treat was the Hamachi Kama, which is not on the menu, but often requested as it is such a specialty and Hot Tuna cooks it to perfection! This dish is the cheek of the yellowtail amberjack fried to perfection – you’ll want to eat every scrap. You can’t go wrong; all of the

appetizers at Hot Tuna are fabulous. In the past, we’ve enjoyed the Steamed Edamame, topped with a delicious lemon-infused sea salt, and the Stuffed Mushroom Caps (stuffed with Hot Tuna’s signature spicy tuna mix, topped with garlic and drizzled with teriyaki) are melt-in-yourmouth delicious! Sushi Happy Hour is from 5 – 7 p.m. every Monday through Friday and features 15 different Happy Hour Classic Rolls for $4 each, $1 Nigiri (with rice) pieces and $2 Sashimi (no rice) – these specials are for dining in only and there is a $10 minimum order. Lunch Specials: Join Hot Tuna for lunch and try one of their delicious lunch specials Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Try a fantastic Teriyaki bowl with chicken, steak salmon, shrimp or all vegetables served with steamed rice. You can also try the Combo Bento Plates for lunch, served with steamed rice, house salad, half a California roll and your choice of Panko Chicken, Korean Short Ribs, Panko Crab Cakes, Sushi & Sashimi or Shrimp & Veggie Tempura – all under $10! Penguin Pretzel Factory - “What’s In Your Pretzel?” By Katie Thomas Nothing quite compares to the comfort of a fresh, hand-twisted, baked-to-perfection, heaven-in-yourmouth pretzel, especially when stuffed with unique and delicious fillings! Penguin Pretzel Factory in Trinity is located on Old County Road 54 and serves up the best piping hot pretzels to hit the Tampa Bay area. Made with love; these pretzels are much more than a snack and the many varieties are sure to warm your heart, fill your belly and put a smile on your face! Penguin Pretzel Factory opened its Trinity storefront last August to offer locals a place to satiate their soft pretzel cravings. Owners Nick and Suzi run the family business with their kids and welcome the community to come fall in love with the mouth-watering creations they bake fresh daily! Suzi says. “We were working in the food business for a very long time before we started Penguin Pretzels. We moved to the Trinity area and realized that our family was not spending

26

enough quality time together because Nick had to travel all the time for work. Life happens and brings you in different directions; luckily we have all moved forward to share our lifelong love of food with the community.” Penguin Pretzel Factory came to be after Nick and Suzi decided that they needed something new; a fresh start of sorts. One morning Suzi jumped out of bed craving a hot, doughy pretzel so she drew upon her culinary genius and whipped a few batches up in the kitchen. “Everyone loved them,” says Suzi. “It took me awhile to perfect our famously moist, yet not too greasy twist but once we found a product that we absolutely loved, we decided to go with it and Nick went out to promote our newest adventure.” Nick set out to find places to allow Penguin Pretzel Factory to sell their baked goods out of their kiosks. He got in with MOSI (Museum of Science and Industry) and Busch Gardens for special events. You may have already sampled one of Penguin Pretzel Factory’s fantastic creations at

Nothing Beats a Pretzel from Penguin! Upon entering Penguin Pretzel Factory your senses are immediately greeted with a heavenly smell – a burst of simple, delicious, yummy fragrance that immediately leaves your mouth watering. Fresh dough is made every morning before sunrise by Nick himself in the Penguin Pretzel Factory kitchen. When the doors open, the family is diligently working together to twist, hand-roll, hand-stuff and create your favorite treat. “Nothing here comes out of a box,” says Nick. “We mix our own dough, make our own dipping sauces

and mix up all our own stuffing ingredients from scratch!” The restaurant itself is open, airy and bright, and customers can see right back into the kitchen where the magic happens! “We want our customers to see us making our pretzels,” says Nick. “They can come in and watch us beat the dough, shape it, stuff it and put it out for display. All the kids are involved in one way or another. Our family has really made this fun and exciting. We really just want to share the joy we are experiencing here with the community.” Since everything is made in-house, fresh-to-order daily, you can trust that you are receiving the freshest twisted or stuffed doughy treat around. I was able to sample a few of Penguin Pretzel Factory’s customer favorites and let me tell you, these babies really do hit the spot. The warmth of the soft dough makes you feel good all over and when filled with an original Penguin Pretzel Factory stuffing- you will be hooked! I sampled an all-time favorite, the Feta and Spinach stuffed pretzel. The dough was buttered to perfection with the right amount of garlic and stuffed inside with a fresh feta cheese and spinach combination that kicks any old

regular spinach pie out of the competition! Served with a cucumber and dill dipping sauce, this savory feta and spinach stuffed pretzel had my taste buds doing the happy dance! Nick and Suzi sent me home with a classic, salted twist pretzel and a cinnamon sugar twist that were both served with different dips, including hot cheese and a splendidly sweet cream cheese sauce. The creations made in the kitchen at Penguin Pretzel Factory are endless in flavor and fulfillment. Unique stuffed creations include: Bacon and Cheddar, Pepperoni and Mozzarella, Philly Cheese, Chicken Parmesan, Chicken with Ranch and Bacon and many more. Penguin Pretzel Factory is always coming up with new creations, and love to hear customers’ suggestions. If you’re having a delicious classic

salted twist, don’t skip the mustard bar stocked with gourmet mustards from around the world. Penguin Pretzel Factory not only has the best pretzels around for a hearty snack or lunch, they also have a delicious breakfast pretzel. Stop by early and grab a piping hot everything pretzel and some cream cheese for a quick, delicious breakfast that will give you lasting energy. The dessert pretzels are just the right amount of sweet with fillings like dark chocolate, strawberries and cream, blueberry and many more. If you are looking for a hit to serve at your next party, pick a party platter from Penguin Pretzel Factory. These platters can be custom ordered or the Penguin team will put together a specialty surprise for your party. Suzi says, “When you follow your heart and do the things you love, it all works out. We are having a fabulous experience working, living and creating homemade baked pretzels for our customers! Come join and meet our family and enjoy the unique experience of Penguin Pretzel Factory!” Penguin Pretzel Factory, located at 8521 Old County Road 54 in New Port Richey, is open Monday – Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Give Penguin Pretzel Factory a “like” on facebook to see upcoming specials, events and new creations! Save Time and Money with Grout Tech By Kim Thomas Before you spend thousands of dollars remodeling and re-tiling your bathroom or kitchen be sure to call Grout Tech for a FREE estimate on cleaning or repairing old dingy tile and grout. Grout Tech can breathe new life into your existing tile work, making everything shine like new at a fraction of the cost. With the help of Grout Tech, even the dirtiest and oldest of floors can be restored and renewed to their original beauty and splendor. We saved so much money by having the grout in our shower resurfaced and the tile cleaned and it looks brand new,” John shares. BJ is happy to set your appointment, come out and give you a free estimate. She stresses, “It is important for me to be respectful of our customers’ time so I will always arrive at the time we set.” In addition to always arriving in a timely manner, BJ says that they can keep their prices low because they are a family owned business and not a franchise. She explains, “What many people don’t understand is that franchises are often forced to charge more for their services because they have to maintain their franchise fees, but not with Grout Tech.” Not

only does Grout Tech keep its rates competitive, but the company will also honor any other quote as long as it is in writing. Because grout is a porous material, trying to remove stains is seemingly impossible. BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many services we offer and it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect, new look.” Using a step-by-step process, Grout Tech begins by using a cleansing product to remove all bacteria and surface dirt with special machinery. They will then apply a color seal (of your choice). Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently protected from any stains.

The color seal also guarantees against cracking, chipping and peeling. Additionally, they will also cosmetically fix or replace chipped or cracked tiles, making your bathroom or kitchen tile like new again. Carla Bartow, a satisfied customer, shares her experience, “When BJ came out to give us a quote, she looked at the job and I could tell immediately that she knew what she was talking about. We had our family room, kitchen and dining room re-grouted. They also re-grouted the tub, shower and base of our toilet in our bathroom. They were fantastic! Not only were they professional and reliable but they also completed the job much faster than we had anticipated.”

Excellent Service Leads to Referrals Throughout the years, Grout Tech has grown through its many referrals from happy customers. People really appreciate that Grout Tech saves them time and money, but it is the excellent service provided that has really helped this business grow. Doris Strathearn, another Grout Tech success story, said that before calling Grout Tech her bathroom and guest bathroom shower and floor grout had deteriorated over time and the tiles were dull and stained. “The

tile was in good condition but it was stained so we had Grout Tech come out and clean them and they turned out very well.” They were so pleased that they have already referred Grout Tech to neighbors in their community. Grout Tech can also remove and re-caulk around sinks, baseboards, tubs and showers serving to clean up old moldy areas and keep your dry wall free from water damage. From old to new in just one day! “Expressions” Continued from page 1 dental care affordable,” explains Dr. McCaslin. “But there is such a difference between a corporate practice and a private practice. We are able to give our patients care with a personal touch. It is such a great feeling that we are changing people’s lives by providing great quality care at a reasonable price.” People have very busy lives, and this too is something that Dr. McCaslin takes into consideration when providing dental care. If you have ever had to have a crown, then you have probably experienced the dreaded temporary and the very careful eating that goes along with it while you wait for your permanent crown, not to mention the hassle of several appointments. Who needs that? No one does. That is why Dr. McCaslin provides her patients with the latest in dental advances such as the CEREC Omnicam, a fantastic bit of technology that gives dentists a precise 3-D image of your teeth, which allows for more precise measurements for fitting crowns, bridges and implants. The best thing about the CEREC Omni-

cam is that it completely eliminates the temporary crown and provides patients with a permanent crown in one sitting – yes, one appointment and done! Dr. McCaslin was actually the first dentist in the Tampa Bay area to have the CEREC Omnicam. She remains passionate about staying on top of the latest advances in dentistry and for years, she has attended trainings at the Scottsdale Center for Dentistry in Arizona. On her most recent trip, she returned to Scottsdale Center for Dentistry as a mentor to teach other dentists about the CEREC Omnicam. She says, “As a mentor, you are there to teach, but it’s amazing how much you learn when you are interacting with dentists from across the country. I enjoy learning about their practices and getting ideas.” Expressions Cosmetic and Family Dentistry is a completely digitized office. All appointments, scheduling, charts, and x-rays are digital. Each operatory is equipped with a computer that can access all patients’ charts, xrays, intra-oral and extra-oral pictures. Along with panoramic x-rays, Dr. McCaslin takes digital photos of each patient’s mouth inside and out. Oral digital photography is used to educate
