Trinity Family Physicians Offers Customized Health Care tude of ways since beginning their practice in 2007. They were first in our area to offer a Concierge Practice; patients who participate in that program essentially have an allaccess pass to their doctors at any time, quicker appointment times and VIP treatment. Of course, most of their patients are completely satisfied with the standard, day-to-day practice, and that’s because these doctors work hard with their experienced staff to anticipate patient concerns, and to communicate as clearly and effectively as possible. Combined with a paperless office and a patient portal for records and pre-
scriptions, the doctors at Trinity Family Physicians truly make a difference. See “Family Physicians” on page 52

Family Tips for Making This School Year the Best Yet! By Julie Kanehl It’s official! While it’s still hot, hot, hot, summer is at an end and school begins Monday, August 18th for both Pasco and Pinellas Counties! Here are some tips to help make this the very best school year for your entire family! Be prepared! It’s fair to say that we spend a lot of time, effort and money getting our kids ready to go back to school each August! From backpacks and school clothes, to school supplies and electronics, but the real key to a successful school year is to stay informed, involved and organized! Did you know that each district website has a school calendar that’s available to parents? Putting those important dates onto your calendar is a great way for families to know exactly when to expect teacher planning days, know when the school breaks land, and a great way to decide when to take that family trip out of town! Another excellent way to stay ahead of the game is to go to “Meet the Teacher” day! This is really an awesome way to start the year out
10
strong, because it helps your child gain confidence and it eases first day of school jitters! Also, come to “Open House” which usually takes place a few weeks after school starts, and is the perfect time for your child to show off some of what they’ve accomplished so far! The little ones really love showing off some of their art projects and having you sit at their desk! Do you have children in middle school or high school? These events are just as important for older students! Meet those teachers, follow along with your child’s schedule, and walk in their footsteps for an evening. It’s amazing what you’ll learn. Also, it’s a great way to get on the same page with the teachers. As the students get older, the teacher’s expectations rise. It’s good to know which teacher accepts late assignments, for example, and which teacher doesn’t. If you’re involved and know the rules, it helps your child to succeed and take responsibility for their own efforts in their education. Additionally, don’t expect to have a parent/teacher conference at an event like “Meet the Teacher Day” or “Open House.” These events are very limited for time, and teachers want to schedule a specific time so that they
For Ad Info 727-943-0551 • www.NNLFlorida.com
can speak to you about your child in a quiet, confidential manner. Also, it’s also important to give your teacher some time for early assessments to come in before asking how they are doing in school, so take heart, don’t worry, and stay positive! Stay Connected & Get Involved! Don’t forget to make sure that your child’s teacher has your up-todate contact information! Staying in touch with your child’s teacher is an important way to keep on top of any changes at school, as well as any upcoming events that might not be on the school calendar like field trips, class parties, and unit tests. Also, take note of any way that your child’s teacher prefers to be reached. Some teachers prefer phone calls, while others are perfectly happy to communicate via text or email! The more involved you are, the less likely it is that your child will fall behind! Are you able to help out at school, even a little bit? Become a school volunteer! Even if you work full-time and don’t have a lot of time to spare, being a volunteer is a great way to help out. There are opportunities throughout the year, and any help
AUGUST 2014
is always appreciated! It’s easy to sign up; simply go to the district’s website and register as a volunteer. Once you’re an approved volunteer, you can be involved in any capacity that works with your busy schedule. Set the Bar High! It’s no secret among educators that students will rise to the occasion when you set the bar high, so do the same for your children at home! It’s okay to expect A’s! Always encourage your children to do the very best they can do on each assignment and test. With all of the drama and politics in the media about education, it’s often tempting to throw your hands in the air at times, but what does that teach your child? Teach them to find the answers by asking the right questions, Instead of “I don’t get this!” ask them specifically what they don’t understand. Perhaps it’s multiplication tables, or algebra, or a paper on the state of Florida. Regardless, take the time to help them learn how to do research. Teach them how to study by introducing flash cards, playing educational games, and enticing them to succeed in a way that makes sense to them. Once these skills are learned,
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
they will become more independent and successful! Guess what? It’s ok if you don’t know how to do your child’s homework! Here’s a newsflash: You’re not supposed to be doing your child’s homework! So how can you help when everything has changed? Well, ask your child to bring textbooks home if they don’t already. If they don’t know how to do it, you can show them how to look it up in their book (the old fashioned way!). If it’s not in the book, there are plenty of resources online related to the Common Core Curriculum. You can even ask for help from your child’s teacher if this is a problem that your child seems to have on a regular basis. Everyone is busy and our lives are hectic, but homework time can be less stressful if you schedule a time for it each day, and work to find a balance that works for your family. At homework time, keep a close eye on their school planner! Don’t just sign it and hand it back, because that’s where all of their important information is supposed to be. If it’s empty, or doesn’t match up with the homework they are bringing home, look into it. If they “did their homework already,” make sure to look at it! If used properly, the school plan-
ner is your best gauge for how your child is doing in between report cards, and a great way to communicate with the teacher. Some schools even have an online database for each student – if that’s the case, make sure to log on regularly! At the end of the day, you know your children best! You know how they learn, what frustrates them and what motivates them, so if you are there to guide them and teach them, they will overcome any obstacle that they face at school. Stay Positive! Embrace your child’s education as best as you can! Meet the teachers, and say positive things about them around your children. Also, say positive things about your children to their teachers! Be pleasant and upbeat when you talk about education, and try to be patient when you’re helping your children with projects and assignments. It’s not easy, but at the end of the day, we want our children to have a love for reading, a positive attitude toward learning, and a good work ethic. No one is more essential to your child’s success than you! So, thank you for all that you do, and have a great school year from your friends at Neighborhood News & Lifestyles!

Trinity Dental Care A Decade of Dental Care at its Family-Friendly Finest! By Katie Thomas Husband and wife dentists Azita Eskandari, DDS and Saied Shayes, DMD recently celebrated the ten-year anniversary of the opening of their family-friendly dental practice, Trinity Dental Care. With a location that is convenient to every neighborhood in Trinity––at 1843 Healthcare Drive, just behind the Walgreen’s at the intersection of Little Road and Mitchell Boulevard––the couple’s office is not only home to the two dentists, but is home to a great staff whom always have patients’ best interests in mind. Trinity Dental Care is a bright and friendly office that never overbooks patients, so you can be in, out, and on with your day as quickly as possible. Dr. Eskandari says, “One of our main goals here is to help people receive the care they need as efficiently as possible. We don’t have a big office because we don’t want people sitting out in the waiting room for hours waiting on their dental care. We keep it small because we keep the wait time

small. You will usually be seen within five minutes of your appointment time. We do this because it helps us give the best care possible to each individual patient, while helping them with them save time.” Dr. Shayes and Dr. Eskandari started out with a small office on Hillsborough Avenue before moving to Trinity. “At the time we saw growth happening here in the community. We were nervous at first because there were more cows than people! But the area has been great to us and we absolutely love our clientele,” says Dr. Eskandari. “When we started here, we had recently gotten married and I was pregnant with our first child. Patients we’ve known since then have become a part of our family and have watched our kids grow, as well as helped our business grow. We are very thankful.” Dr. Shayes and Dr. Eskandari are local residents who live only a few minutes away from the office, which allows them to serve patients during evening and weekend hours. If you have an emergency dental situation,

Dr. Eskandari opened a second office in Tampa, right off Bruce B. Downs called A Briter Smile Dental Care. Only twenty minutes from Trinity, this location allows for the couple to be available at either location for dental care. This helps save you time because you can choose either location depending on your centralized area. One of the best things about Trinity Dental Care (besides the friendly and knowledgeable team) is the fact that they make an effort to get all your work done on the same day, even if you are a new patient. “When we book a new patient we book enough time to allow for x-rays, gum check, cleaning, and more so you don’t have to come back. You can get everything taken care of that day if you want because we make sure to block of plenty of time to spend with you as an individual!” Trinity Dental Care always keeps the patients’ best interests in mind and does their best to find discounts where they are available for services. They accept all insurance providers with PPO dental plans, participate with care credit a finance company, offer discounts to patients without insurance and offer senior citizen discounts. Dr. Eskandari says, “Depending on service and work, we try to help you as much as we can with discounts. Care credit is a great way to pay off a little at a time, which takes the stress out of your dentist visit.” Visit Trinity Dental Care’s website, trinitydentalcare.com, to watch a video about the team, read the dentists’ bios and to see a full list of services. Top 10 Energy-Saving Tips from Duke Energy People Magazine has a “Top Ten” list, as does countless other publications and TV shows. Add to that mix Duke Energy Florida, with our own top 10 energy saving tips derived from decades of energy-efficiency expertise. Duke Energy Florida’s top 10 energy saving tips include: 10. Regulate your thermostat. For optimal savings, keep your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher in warmer months and 70 degrees or lower during cooler months. Adhering to the adjustments yearround could save more than $175 in energy costs. 9. Seal leaks. Use weather stripping or caulk to seal around doors and windows and install inexpensive gaskets under electrical outlets to obstruct leaks. Repair leaky ducts and reduce cooling and heating costs by a third. 8. Make the switch. American could collectively save more than $8 billion a year by replacing their five most-used light fixtures with ENERGY STAR qualified products. In addition to using 75 percent energy
22
than incandescent bulbs, compact fluorescent bulbs generate less heat and last 10 times longer. 7. Perform routine maintenance. Indoors, clean or change the filters in your air condition or heating system monthly. Outdoors, keep your pool pump and filter in good repair. Keep drains free of debris to prevent overworking your pump and increasing energy use. 6. Adjust your water heater. Dropping the temperature from 140 to 120 degrees could save about $25 a year. A setting of 120 degrees is sufficient for most household needs. 5. Insulate. Many areas of your home can benefit from insulation. Wrap the first six feet of pipes connected to your water heater and add an insulation blanket to your water heater to keep heat in more effectively. Upgrade your attic insulation to the recommended level of R30. Outdoors, use a pool cover to help reduce heat loss caused by evaporation and limit debris in the pool – a move that will also reduce

necessary filtration cycles. 4. Opt for energy-efficient appliances. Look for the Energy Guide label for significant savings. A new energy-efficient refrigerator may use 75 percent less energy than your older model. Not ready to replace large appliances? When purchasing a new television, consider ENERGY STAR qualified models, which are up to 40 percent more efficient. 3. Reduce pump cycles. Limit pool cycles to four to six hours each day in the summer and three hours per day in the winter. Follow this guideline to reduce your pool’s annual electric consumption by up to

60 percent – and extend the pump’s life in the process. 2. Consolidate. The extra refrigerator in your garage or utility room is costing you. Combine your food and drinks into one indoor refrigerator and save up to $20 per month. Keeping a fully stocked, but not over stuffed, fridge and freezer also is great way to save energy and money. 1. Get a Home Energy Check. Contact Duke Energy Florida for a no-cost Home Energy Check. The check provides customized energysaving advice and determines your eligibility for valuable rebates toward

energy-efficient home improvements. The service can be performed over the phone, online or in person, where an Energy Advisor will address energy-saving opportunities specific to your home. Trinity Resident Pens Four Novels About the Old South Trinity really is a beautiful little piece of Florida, and one local has found inspiration at the everyday places around town. Author of four novels featuring the landscapes and lives of the Old South, Dr. Jane Bennett Gaddy shares, “I live in Trinity (Southern Oaks) and spend my days writing from my special places—the front windows of Panera Bread at Mitchell Ranch and the Adirondack chairs in the lovely Longleaf Town Square.” Dr. Gaddy’s fourth novel – Rachel, After the Darkness – went live on June 16, 2014, and, as is her tradition, the first signing was held at Panera Bread on July 19. Through the month of September, she will be at signing events in Northeast Missisippi, the Delta, Memphis, Tennessee and the surrounding areas. A native Mississippian, born in the Delta in 1940, Dr. Gaddy writes about the Civil War era and the years that followed, but they are not only Civil War tales, but a poignant account of her family as first told by her grandmother, Vallie Georgia Clark Smith of Sarepta, Mississippi, many years ago.
26
Dr. Gaddy says, “The stories are built around my great-great grandfather, a Captain in Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia who, along with his two sons, died at the Battle of Gettysburg. For the historical and non-fiction side of my stories, I had copies of the letters they wrote home to my great-great grandmother (her fictional name, Rachel). Mine are not only stories of the War era, Reconstruction, and the aftermath, but a poignant family story as told to me by my grandmother. The fictional side is from my heart, reading between the lines of the letters and my grandmother’s tales. Those war letters are archived at The University of Mississippi in Oxford.” The words of her grandmother took root long after she died and long before Gaddy wrote the stories. Her great-great grandfather, Captain Thomas Goode (T.G.) Clark of the Mississippi 42nd Infantry Regiment was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg along with his two sons, Jonathan and Albert Henry. They were soldiers in the company of great men in A.P.

Hill’s Corps, Joseph Davis’ Brigade, Henry Heth’s Division of Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. Much of the story is revealed in the War letters they sent home to her great-great grandmother, Margery Brown Rogers Clark (Rachel Payne in the novels). With a bound copy of those letters before her, Gaddy blended reality with imagination to weave an unforgettable saga, her characters breathing life and love into those disheartened by the War and its aftermath. Her novels, though based on truth, are steeped in fiction, for who can know all the nuances of the rebuilding of the Old South and the healing of its people. Imagine the heart that went into every stroke of the pick, every shovel of ashes—those ashes symbolic of the final blow before the fall. Embrace the heart-warming stories as a daughter of the South relives her heritage and shines a fictional light on her family to capture what might have been. Gaddys says, “Each book has featured at least one of the six sons and Rachel has been the golden thread, the bind-

was vice president mortgage banking, manager of the training and sales support functions, traveling the Southeast extensively over the last ten years of her career, teaching mortgage bankers to market for maximum benefit, and designing the majority of their marketing material. Earlier in her mortgage banking career, she managed the cor-
respondent lending support division and worked with the legal department to achieve lending approval for states in the bank’s mortgage footprint With a Ph.D. in Religion, after retirement, Dr. Gaddy served as dean of external studies and taught master’s thesis preparation and British and American literature at Tabernacle Bap-

tist College in Greenville, South Carolina. She currently administers an American literature course for off-campus students of Bethany Divinity College and Seminary in Dothan, Alabama. Dr. Gaddy designed the course she administers Gaddy has published five books—her memoir in 2007; The Mississippi Boys in 2008; Isaac’s House in 2011; JOAB in 2013. Her latest novel, Rachel, After the Darkness just published in June, 2014. She co-authored GIBBO—In My Life, was ghostwriter for another memoir, and has edited and assisted to the publisher several manuscripts. She also ghostwrites monthly articles for the religious section of the Birmingham Times. July through September, 2014, the author will sign books and participate in speaking venues across Northeast Mississippi, the Delta, and Memphis, Tennessee. As always, she launches her signing tour at Panera Bread in her own community of Trinity, Florida where she resides with her husband. She has four children, ten grandchildren and twelve greatgrandchildren. Dr. Gaddy’s friend, another Trinity resident, Andrew M. Domarasky, III Colonel, USMC (Retired), wrote the Foreword for the book. Dr. Gaddy says, “He is not only my friend, but a brilliant war strategist, having served for twentysix years in the Marine Corps.” Andrew M. Domarasky, III, Colonel, USMC (Retired) had this to say in the Foreword: “Rachel, After the Darkness is a continuation of the struggle in which Gaddy intricately describes the South following the war and during the reunification of a broken Nation. Rachel’s husband and
son are gone, having fallen at Gettysburg. Three of her sons have married, and Rachel and her youngest, Samuel, are left alone to run the small farm in northeast Mississippi. The darkness represents a life-shattering war that never should have been, and in her thoughts, Rachel relives the gloom that settled over the bloody pond of Shiloh and the hot and sultry smoke of the guns on the wheat fields of death and destruction of Gettysburg. She lives the disparities of Federal intervention resulting from Reconstruction and the re-establishing of the Old South while, at the same time, enduring the harsh restrictions of the Radical Regime. “As the story progresses, Rachel receives a short-term offer to become an editorial writer for a major newspaper in New York City where she momentarily lives the Gilded Age and a different lifestyle, observes the abject poverty of Irish immigrants, and endures the sporadic and sometimes violent opposition to her controversial southern-view post-war editorials. She experiences love in great measure and the eventual return home to her roots where awaits unexpected news of more tragedy and heartache. “With characters out of the playbook of times gone by and personal storytelling writing style, Dr. Gaddy has created another memorable journey from the darkness of war and its aftermath to the light of a new and golden era. In Rachel, After the Darkness, the author leaves hope and great possibilities that the story will continue.” Rachel, After the Darkness is available online at all major book retailers including Barnes&Noble.com, Amazon.com and more, or order from the publisher at 1-800-AUTHORS. Crazy 8 Freedom Announces, Inc Announces New Job And Life Skills Program, Freedom Cleaning Crazy 8 Freedom, Inc. of New Port Richey is pleased to announce their new job and life skills program, Freedom Cleaning. Dee Mahan, Crazy 8 Freedom’s co-founder and president said, “Anyone may apply, however, we expect every participant to go through the 6 month program with the idea of changing any negative beliefs about themselves.” Chris Mahan, co-founder and director of Crazy 8 Freedom, is hoping that this program catches on locally to help develop young people for the workforce, and obstacles of life. Mahan said, “Today our young people are often not emotionally, or behaviorally prepared to handle the most basic life challenges. Pasco County has lost far too many local teens to suicide and drug addiction. Since 2011, Pasco County and the area have lost over a dozen area teens to suicide and countless more to drug addiction. Mahan went to say, “We love to mentor and life coach young people and their families. We believe that our youth are our Country’s
greatest assets; as adults, it our job to mentor and guide them in this new and often confusing new world. Our youth need positive role models and parents need positive support.” Freedom Cleaning provides viable services to the community with background-checked young adults and out-of-work parents. Our participants are not “unemployable” they may only lack the self-confidence, work experience, or opportunity to excel. Freedom Cleaning provides employee’s customer service skills, personal accountability, money management training, teamwork skills, communication skills, resume building, and future references for gainful employment and confidence for the many challenges that we all face in life. Freedom Cleaning is important to the community not only for the job training skills, but also for the life skills. Chris Mahan, indicated that many youth today have lived a pretty easy life thus far, and have never been taught or even expected to deal with adversity and other people on a regu-

The Rays certainly don’t hold back when it comes to giving back to the fans. Widely know for their fan giveaways, the Rays are always finding unique ways to thank their fans and give incentives for those who show up early to the games by giving away freebies for the first 10,000 fans that walk through their doors. Past prizes include: derby-style hats, which they gave away on Mother’s Day, bobble-head dolls, stuffed animals, and my personal favorite- DJ Kitty toques, which were a huge hit amongst fans.

amazing! Mentors, teachers, and “heroes,” the Rays organization provides much more than just athleticism and entertainment – they are community impact leaders who actively strive to make a lasting difference in the Tampa Bay area. Taking a hands-on approach to supporting the community, in addition to the Rays Baseball Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that raises money to help support youth education development programming, the players and their wives, as well as many of the corporate employees, dedicate their time to helping individuals, families and organizations in the community through their numerous charities, volunteer programs and partnership affiliations. “We are really proud to be community impact leaders,” says Mark Fernandez, Senior Vice President of the Rays Organization. We take our responsibility seriously and are always looking to find ways to form meaningful partnerships within the community. Giving away the money is easiest part, but the most meaningful thing that we do, in addition to being an ongoing funder, is to be actively engaged in the community.” An inspiration to our youth, the players are a true testament to the no-
tion, that if you dream big and work hard, anything is possible. Furthermore, in all their success, they also recognize that giving back is just as important as the sport they play and that without you – their fans, their community – what they have accomplished would never have been possible; which is why they give back to the Tampa Bay area, not just to show gratitude and thanks, but because they want to make a difference in the lives of those around them! “At the end of the day, the name on the front of their jersey means more than the name on their back,” says Mark. “When people see our logo and our brand, I hope we’ve done enough for them to say, ‘that’s my team and those are my guys’. That means everything to us!” From playing on the field to volunteering in your community, the Rays truly are your hometown team! So, what are you waiting for? The season is almost over. Round up your friends and family today and come on down to the Tropicana Field to cheer on your very own Tampa Bay Rays and enjoy some good ol’ American fun! The Friendship Singers – Bringing Joy Through Love of Singing
By Marcy Sanford

For nearly 20 years The Friendship Singers have been entertaining groups at senior citizen and assisted living homes throughout Hillsborough and Pasco County. This December they’ll be celebrating their 20th anniversary and founder Delores Gast is thrilled with the way the group has grown since its beginning. “Twenty years ago I was retiring from my job of 22 years as a church choir director. Several choir members came up to me after I’d retired and said they wanted
AUGUST 2014
to keep singing with me. After talking it over, we decided that there was a need for a choir group to sing to people at senior citizen and assisted living homes. Our first concert was at Shady Palms Retirement Home in December of 1994.” Since that first concert The Friendship Singers have grown from 12 members to more than 40 and they’ve entertained thousands of people. “We perform twice a month,” says Delores. “The most wonderful part of being in The Friendship Singers is to see the happy faces of the residents
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
during our performances. Many of them don’t have visitors on a regular basis and it is nice to be able to entertain them and bring some joy into their lives.” Delores says that the group is open to anyone who is interested in singing, “our youngest member is a high school student and our oldest is 92 years old. We have people who live all over the area from Dade City to Carrollwood, Odessa to Wesley Chapel. In addition to the joy we get from performing for nursing home residents, we have all become like family to each other. It is a wonderful group of people.” Friendship Singers member Joe Berling agrees that the group is a wonderful way to volunteer and meet
other people. “My wife and I were looking for volunteer work when we came across information about the group. I had been in my high school glee club and we both enjoyed singing. It is wonderful to see the happiness that we bring to residents. Usually we sing songs from the 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s - songs that will be familiar to the residents of the home. We also try to take a stuffed animal or other gift to give to every resident. It is a great way to volunteer while doing something you love.” The only requirement for becoming one of The Friendship Singers is a love of singing. The group practices twice a month at the Land O’ Lakes Senior Citizens Center and typically performs twice a month at homes and centers throughout Hillsborough and Pasco County. For more information on becoming a member, please contact Joe Berling at 813-997-1454 or jberling@tampabay.rr.com or Joyce Ruby at 813-468-3095, or email joyceruby99@yahoo.com.

“This is a great hometown win – great motivation!” said proud mom and local business owner Michelle Dumovich, of M.D. Complete Fitness. Michelle is one of many proud parents who recently watched their daughters pull together as team to take it all the way to the number one slot when the Clearwater Lady Bombers “00” ruled the field, winning the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) Girls Fast Pitch World Series at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Orlando! The Clearwater Lady Bombers “00” fast pitch softball team has 13 players – 12 are in 8th grade and 1 is in the 7th grade. The girls, ages 13 and 14 years old, are from all over the Tampa Bay area, but play in the Clearwater Lady Bombers organization, run by president Tony Grat. The players are: Athena Andrews, Natalie Zweig, Jenna Wojnar, Kendyl Crean, Gillian Sladden, Grace Hastings, Anna

“Dumo” Dumovich, Bayley Williams, Morgan Dansby, Mia Merson, Devyn Howard, Lauren Jarnagin and Jane Wickett. “The ultimate goal for our players is a college scholarship,” said head coach Tom Sladden, who couldn’t be more proud. “Most of the team has been together for the past three years.” In addition to Sladden, the team coaches are Jason Jarnagin, Bryan Williams and Tim Zweig. Coach Sladden gives the break down, “We played in the 2014 USSSA Fast Pitch World Series in Orlando, against a field of 53 teams from around the Nation. We played at several different complexes around Orlando/Kissimmee, including the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Disney. Our team went 9 and 0 in the tournament, even though it was double elimination, we didn’t lose a game. The last 4 victories came on the last day of the tournament. We scored 71 runs while allowing only 7! We had

5 shutouts in the 9 games and committed only 4 errors. The scores of our games were: 14-0, 13-3, 12-0, 2-0, 51, 14-2, 3-0, 4-1 and 4-0 in the championship game. We played teams from Georgia, Chicago, Indiana, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and South Florida. The West Virginia team – the Baseburners – we defeated twice, the
last one was the championship game, 4-0.” Sladden added, “All of the 13 girls had huge contributions and 2 of our players were recognized for outstanding performances – Jenna Wojnar was named the Overall Tournament MVP and Natalie Zweig was named Best Offensive Player.” Looking forward to more winning seasons; there is only a short break for these young athletes. Coach Sladden knows what it takes on the part of the team members and their parents, stating, “We will take a couple weeks off, then its back to work for the Fall/Winter season. Fast pitch travel softball is a year around sport. I would like to thank the parents of all the players for all of the sacrifices made for the girls throughout the year.” Congratulations Clearwater Lady Bombers “00” from all of us at Neighborhood News & Lifestyles!

Because we are experts in all types of roofing, we are able to help our clients find the best roofing solution for their home.” “I had the good fortune to have Dave Braund come out and check my leaking roof,” says customer Kathy Smith. “Since the roof is 13 years old, I was expecting the worst, but Dave climbed up and checked my entire roof and informed me that there were just a few areas where nails had popped up and some shingles were loose. “Trinity Family” Continued from page 1 I have personally been a patient of theirs for many years, and am so pleased with the kind of care that they provide. When I’m sick and need to be seen quickly, I can always get an appointment, and when I am there, I always feel like family. Honestly, when I needed tests because we were worried we’d found something scary; they jumped right into action, ordered the right tests, followed up, and helped me celebrate when the results were clear. Wellness, Prevention & Healthcare Most of the time, when you go to a doctor, they tell you the typical things – it’s either, “you need a prescription,” or “it’s just a virus go back to bed,” or maybe “lay off the ice cream.” But, what about when, you, as a patient, have concerns, goals, wishes? Are you bringing those to your doctor’s attention? Do you want to learn how to lose weight the healthy way? Do you want to know why you have acne at 35? Do you wish you actually knew what those
52
blood pressure numbers meant when the nurse read them off to you after every physical? Because so many of us are so busy, we’ve stopped going to the doctor for preventive or wellness care, and that’s a mistake. Only going to your doctor when you need an antibiotic doesn’t allow them to look at your overall health and wellness. At Trinity Family Physicians, their goals are your goals – a healthier, happier you. Did you know that most insurance companies offer at least one free physical a year? That’s right! That’s the perfect time to make a list, come in, and meet with the doctors. It’s a good time to take a look at the medication that you’re taking, both prescription and over the counter, and
For Ad Info 727-943-0551 • www.NNLFlorida.com
to discuss the reasons why. In fact, the doctors at Trinity Family Physicians are doing their best to meet with their patients during their wellvisit to discuss ways to eliminate or at least decrease prescription medicines where possible, and to see if there’s an herbal supplement that may be safer and easier on your body to take. Have you ever asked your doctor for a supplement or a vitamin? If not, you should! Dr. Eldridge and Dr. Shirmo are proud to offer options to their patients and for many people, supplements and vitamins can do a lot of amazing things to help medical concerns naturally. Historically, people have been using herbs and essential oils to help with medical maladies since the beginning
AUGUST 2014
of time, and originally that’s what most of our medicines were made of. Today, however, many medicines are a cocktail of chemicals that can help to treat a problem, but can also cause a myriad of side effects in the process. The doctors’ expertise is in determining what kind of medicine to prescribe, and to weigh those risks with each patient. While prescription medicine is important and necessary, there’s a trend among many patients to ask for less prescription medicine if there are alternatives. That’s why Dr. Eldridge and Dr. Shirmo are proud to announce a new line of supplements at their office that can help with everything from losing weight to lowering your blood pressure – naturally and safely.
Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles
Dr. Shirmo says, “It’s important to us to provide customized healthcare to our patients, and to offer our patients choices when possible. That’s why we’ve decided to offer supplements, which can either be taken instead of some medicines, or taken in conjunction with some medicines to enhance them to yield a positive result.” He adds, “But it’s also important to know where those supplements come from, which is why we’ve chosen NutraMetrix, because it’s a U.S. Company, where all of the components are made in the U.S. and physicians are in charge of the quality control of the product. It’s a product we trust, and it’s a product we take.” Offering general vitamins for overall wellness, sleep aids, heart health, safe weight management, help for vision and more, the NutraMetrix line is well-known and respected, and has created safe supplements to help you live a healthier life, with the idea that you won’t actually have to go to the doctor as often! That’s okay with the doctors at Trinity Family Physicians! They want you to be well, and when you’re not, they will be there to help. Using all of the tools that they can, Dr. Eldridge and Dr. Shirmo
want to strategize with you for your overall healthcare, help you meet the goals that you have, and encourage you to live a healthy lifestyle. Another way that Dr. Eldridge and Dr. Shirmo like to reach out to help is by sharing important information and tips, so they encourage their patients to “like” and visit their facebook page. There, they let people know if there’s a virus outbreak in the neighborhood, if the flu shots are available, and they also give helpful tools to incorporate wellness into your life. The Trinity Family Physicians want to take care of you so that you can get back out there and live your best life. Make an appointment, and let their family take care of your family.
