Don’t Be A Victim: Duke Energy Reminds Customers To Guard Against Fraudulent Activity As scammers continue to target the customers of utility service providers across the country, Duke Energy is reminding its customers not to fall victim to fraudulent activity. “Unfortunately, we continue to receive reports across our service areas of individuals impersonating Duke Energy employees to steal money from our customers,” said Gayle Lanier, Duke Energy’s senior vice president of customer services. “Our customers can protect themselves by knowing the signs of fraudulent activity.” Based on current events, here are the most prevalent scams reported from Duke Energy’s service areas: • Phone Payment Scam – Under this long-running scam, a customer receives an unsolicited phone call from an individual who falsely claims to be a Duke Energy representative. The scammer warns that Duke Energy will disconnect the customer’s electric service if the customer fails to make a payment – usually within a short timeframe: - The thief instructs the customer

to purchase a “Green Dot” or other branded pre-paid debit card – widely available at retail stores – then call him or her back to supposedly make a payment to Duke Energy. - The scammer asks the customer for the prepaid debit card’s receipt number and PIN number, which grants instant access to the card’s funds. Some of these criminals also use caller ID spoofing to replicate Duke Energy’s customer service number. They can also become aggressive when questioned about the legitimacy of their calls, and some specifically target Spanish-speaking customers, restaurants and other small businesses. - In reality, Duke Energy never asks or requires customers who have delinquent accounts to purchase a prepaid debit card to avoid electric service disconnection. Customers can make payments online, by phone, automatic bank draft, mail or in person. Duke Energy customers who have delinquent accounts also receive notifications from the company prior to electric service disconnection – never just a single notification one hour before disconnection. • Email phishing scam – Duke Energy customers have reported re-

ceiving statements via email that claim their “energy bill” is due or past due: - These emails, not connected to Duke Energy’s Paperless Billing program, instructs customers to click on a link to pay their bill. Clicking on the link could result in downloading a virus onto the recipient’s computer or theft of personal information. - Customers should avoid clicking links or downloading attachments from businesses or individuals they do not know, and contact Duke Energy directly to discuss their account. • In-person visits – Some customers have reported receiving inperson visits from individuals falsely claiming to be employed by Duke Energy: - Occasionally, Duke Energy may send employees or authorized contractors to a customer’s home or business to perform meter work or some other service. If you ever question whether a person is a legitimate representative of Duke Energy, contact the company directly to verify the identity of the person and reason for the visit. - In some instances, representatives from private companies may be working in an area on behalf of Duke Energy. If these individuals do not

have an official identification card, ask for their name and reason for the visit, and then contact Duke Energy to verify the information. - Customers should never allow anyone into their home unless they have verified the person’s identity, or have scheduled the visit through Duke Energy in advance. - Duke Energy employees do not collect payment from customers in the field. Customers should make payments only through the company’s authorized payment channels: online, by phone, automatic bank draft, mail or in person. Duke Energy urges customers who suspect or experience fraud, or feel threatened during contact with one of these thieves, to contact local authorities, then Duke Energy at one of the numbers below, to report the activity: Florida customers: 800-700-8744 Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Duke Energy is a Fortune 250 company traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol DUK. Don’t get Razzle-Dazzled When Buying a New Car! Here are some Handy Tips! By Julie Kanehl Let’s face it, buying a car isn’t usually on everyone’s favorite to-do list! Between choosing the right make and model for your lifestyle, and haggling for the right price, it can be a daunting experience at best, so here are some handy tips. First of all, if you’re looking for a great deal, summer time is the perfect time to shop! For one, the next generation of cars is generally released to dealerships during the fall months of the previous year, which means, dealerships are extra motivated to sell their brand new 2014 inventory right now to make room for the new 2015 models! That means that you can save money if you’re willing to buy the current model year, versus the newest model year. The best part? It’s still a brand new car with a full warranty, but it’s a lot easier on your wallet. Doing Research and Taking your Time Can Save $$$! To me, car dealerships are beautiful places. The lights, the beautiful colors, the smell of leather and tires. I know, maybe I’m showing my Motor City roots, but the truth is, the whole dealership experience is meant to charm and entice you-just like the mall! That’s why they often call dealerships automalls! That said, if you walk into a dealership and you’re not sure what you want, they’ll be happy to guide you in the direction of their choice, and have you into financing before you even know what’s happening to you! Don’t let that happen, and don’t think it

14

won’t happen to you! Every day people buy brand new cars that weren’t the color they wanted, the model they wanted or the price that they wanted to spend, all because they were in a hurry to buy. Often it’s because they felt pressured that they’d lose the deal that was being offered, or because they just wanted to get it over with. Neither of those are good reasons to make a rash decision on something so important! Here’s the truth: The deal they are offering you is not a one-time-only special. If they won’t give you that deal tomorrow, someone else will. If you are buying a new car and they don’t have the color of your choice, or more importantly, the specific model of your choice on the lot, don’t settle. Dealerships can check other dealerships, and can usually bring in the model, color, and car of your choice within a couple of days. The key to buying a car is doing your homework, which means taking your time to shop around. Go online and check out websites that rate cars like kbb.com, Edmunds.com and others that will illustrate crash safety ratings, pricing suggestions, and let you compare between makes and models right there online. While they’re not always spoton, they’re a good place to start, and will help you find the right car with the right kind of features. (Don’t forget to look at the value of your trade! Your trade is a huge part of the process, but we’ll get to that later.) For example, perhaps you’d like a small SUV or Crossover that has rear AC vents. This may be harder to find

For Ad Info 727-943-2946 • www.NNLFlorida.com

than you think! Once you’ve narrowed your list down a little, you can look at features like these online to help you narrow your list further. Once you have an idea of what you’d like, go directly to the national dealer website! There you can “tour” the car right there online, view the features inside and out, and learn about any special promotions that the carmaker is currently offering. Often, they will ask for your zip code, and redirect you to the dealerships closest to you! This is fantastic, because from the local dealership websites, you can often view their inventory right from home! If you have narrowed your search down to a specific make and model, go take a test drive! In fact, go take a few! There are many, many dealerships in our area-giving the buyer the advantage. For example, you may have a

SEPTEMBER 2014

better experience test driving the same car at one dealership or the other, and it may make a decision on where you decide to purchase. One dealership may be more motivated than the other! The key is to take your time and not to buy right away! Taking your time can save you thousands of dollars! How much time? I say two weeks. Yes, two weeks! That should give you enough time to do your research online, visit some dealerships, meet some sales people, feel confident on what the promotions are, have

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

some offers on the table and to make an educated decision. Your Best Haggling Tool Is The Car You Trade! The best haggling tool you have is your trade. While it’s nice to make it absolutely gorgeous by cleaning, scrubbing and waxing, the true value of your car is what they can get for it at auction, and no amount of scrubbing is going to change that price. So, while clean and well-kept is good, save your back for washing your new car in the driveway. So, there’s a car you like on the lot-it’s the one, you can feel it. The next step is to know the value of your trade. Knowing the value of your trade is really important, so make sure that you do some research on what your car is currently worth. Print out what the different websites say your car is worth, and in different conditions, as “Excellent” vs. “Good” condition is a matter of opinion. These are just reference numbers of course, but they can give you an idea. Most of the time, dealerships are using these same tools on their end as well. It’s a good starting point! By now, you should know what you’d like to get for your trade, and

what you’d like to pay for the new car. Here comes the negotiating. They always ask, “How much do you want to pay per month?” Be ready for this question very early on in the process, in fact, sometimes they ask you the minute they meet you! This may be an easy way to get to a middle ground, but it’s also a way for them to avoid haggling with you. For example, if you say you want to pay $300 per month, they can have you in the financing chair at that number in no time, but you may pay for it in financing charges, as they may have you paying that monthly price for a year or two longer than you planned. Don’t go starting at your monthly budget, instead, have them give you their best price on your trade, and then make sure they have or can get the make and model that you’d like to purchase before you go any further. Don’t Pay Sticker! The car-buying world is one of the few realms where haggling is not only offered, it’s expected! So, don’t pay sticker! Sometimes, if you want a very specific, hard-tofind make and model, there can be an exception to the rule, but those are

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

exceptions. Make sure you read the entire sticker carefully and haggle about things that look like add-ons to you. If they look like add-ons, they usually are! Often, you can read a specific car’s sticker right from the local dealership’s website! Print it out, have it in your hand and make sure you understand the many features included and not included. Why? It’s virtually impossible to return a car once the title and tag have been transferred! Once you’re ready and you’ve driven and inspected the exact car that you’re entering into a possible agreement with, let them give you an offer. This is finally the time to talk monthly payments, bank rates, credit scores and the like. Let them give you an offer. Consider it, but even if it’s good, walk away. This eliminates the feeling of pressure that so many people dislike about the experience. You don’t have to be rude about it! Just let them know that you’re still shopping around! And do! Shop the same car at the other side of town! When it comes to service, you can have your car serviced at any major brand’s dealership, and they will honor your warranty. Often you can save more money this way, or find that one dealership is willing to throw in something extra that appeals to you, like free oil changes! You don’t have to walk away forever, just a day or two! Even an afternoon! Sometimes, the sales rep will even call you and let you know that management has approved a lower price to get you back in the door.

Here’s another piece of advice, buy at the end of the month! (That means you start the process at least by the 15th managers tend to be more likely to help move a car off the lot, that’s lingo for sell it for less, on the 30th or the 29th. Lastly, be nice! Remember, car salesmen and women have kind of a bad rap. Sometimes, maybe, it’s deserved, but the truth is, if you want a stress-free experience, be nice! As long as you’ve done your homework and are feeling in control of your part of the process, and you feel comfortable taking your time and walking away until you’re completely satisfied, there’s no reason to come in all hot and heavy! In fact, buying a car can actually be a lot of fun! Most dealerships have come of age, and are extremely customer service oriented. They want to earn your business, and they want you to feel comfortable throughout the entire process! Quick Tips! 1. Do your homework! Car dealerships have monthly goals and quotas to meet 2. Shop around! 3. Take your time! 4. Drive and inspect the exact car you’re looking to purchase before signing any paperwork. 5. Buy at the end of the month! 6. Be nice and enjoy the experience! Buying a new car can be fun!

Westchase Music School By Marcy Sanford Since opening one year ago, the teachers and students at Westchase Music School have been busy making beautiful music, giving back to the community, and forming new bonds and friendships. “We wanted to make Westchase Music School a vital part of the neighborhood,” says owner Rick Foessett. “One of the ways we’ve given back to the community is by entertaining the residents at Ashton Gardens. It is a wonderful way for the students to see how the music they are making can entertain and enrich people’s lives.” Whatever the instrument, Westchase Music School’s teachers can help your child master it. Voice, piano, guitar, violin, flute, oboe, drums – the experienced staff at Westchase Music School can match your child to the teacher who will help his or her talents flourish. “We match students up with a teacher that we think will be a good fit with their personality,” says Westchase Music School staff member Nicole Aaronson. “We talk to the parents about the type of teacher they and their child prefer and what genre

of music the child is interested in. We help match personalities so our students are even more successful in their music lessons. Every lesson includes 30 minutes of individual instruction and 15 minutes in the music technology lab. Our teachers really focus on the student and let them choose the songs and style of music they are interested in. It makes the lessons fun for the children and gives them a better success rate.” All of the teachers at Westchase Music School are hand picked by Rick’s wife and co-owner Helen. “Before we moved to Westchase, we had opened a very successful music school in Charlotte, North Carolina,” says Rick. “Helen knows the questions to ask to find the best teachers. All of our teachers have degrees in music; many of them have their masters. Some work in the schools or are retired from teaching. When hiring teachers, we want to make sure that they can communicate with the students and that they know how to teach. Someone may be a wonderful musician but that does not necessarily mean they will be a great teacher.” “I love teaching people to find

We have a group of students’ parents who have formed a guitar club. They meet every Tuesday and the teacher teaches them a song they are interested in or helps them with whatever instruction they are interested in.” Recently, Westchase Music School began offering a parents’ night out, where parents drop off their kids at the school, giving them some time to themselves. This popular event is open to all children in the community from 3 to 14 years old. “We have a great time at our parents’ night out,” says Nicole. “We have karaoke, instruments for the students to play, arts and crafts, video games, movies and pizza. The children love it.” Westchase Music School’s Parents’ Night Out is the last Friday of the month from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Another great service that Westchase Music School offers is band instrument rentals and right now until

the end of October they are offering the first 2 months of rentals for free. “We are very excited to have such a great music school in our neighborhood,” says Joyce Bhutta. “My daughter has been taking lessons for 2 months and loves it. It is a very professional place.” Westchase Music School is located at 11301 Countryway Boulevard in the Lexington Professional Park at the corner of Countryway Boulevard and Citrus Park Drive. Bear Track Lake Adventures – A Nature-Lover’s Dream! By Alexis Selby No traffic, no commercialization, and no stress; surrounded by nothing but nature, as you sit on the back porch and stare out into the serene lake and lush woodlands, you are instantly overcome by a sense of calmness and relaxation. Perfectly contrasted by the vibrant green tree line, the sky is a light blue color. There is not a sound to be heard for miles, aside from that of chirping birds or the ‘who’ of a friendly owl – when you stay at a Bear Track Lake Adventures’ cabin you truly have found a secluded oasis and a perfect representation of what it means to get away. If you have never taken a vacation to the beautiful mountains of Kentucky, than you are missing out on one of the country’s most exclusive hidden gems and Bear Track Lake Adventures surely has done an exceptional job of bringing you to nature’s doorstep. Situated in the middle of a valley on 32 acres of mountainous terrain, overlooking a 7 acre lake, this picturesque setting is like something out of a fairy tale. From the moment you arrive you will slowly feel your tensions slip away and the stresses in your life all of a sudden won’t seem so important. If you are looking for the perfect place to recharge your batteries you have found all that and more at Bear Track Lake Adventures. As a guest at Bear Track Lake Adventures expect a warm Kentucky welcome from owners Fred and Janice Austin, as well as their son Justin and their three dogs. They were such gracious hosts and really did an amazing job of making us feel welcome and introducing us to the area. Living right down the road from the cabin, they were always there if we had any questions and truly made our experience memorable. Their dogs made great walking companions, especially their beautiful Husky Rocco, who on the first night stayed outside our window, guarding us against any creatures that might be lurking about. Fred Austin, a Health Care Administrator in Florida for 17 years, got to missing his mountains and seasons and returned to Kentucky. He built the cabins at Bear Track Lake Adventures as a way to share this beauty with the rest of the world, and since his first cabin was built over three years ago, Fred has had guests from as far away

Imagine yourself waking up to this amazing view! as Europe and as close as neighboring Kentucky cities. No matter where you live or the lifestyle you lead, you can surely appreciate the magnificence that the Kentucky mountains have to offer!

Sleepy Bear’s Dream With two bedrooms, two bathrooms and an additional loft with a bunk bed, the Sleepy Bear’s Dream, comfortably sleeps seven, and is the perfect option for families. Newly built in January, the cabin is immaculate and features hand-crafted furniture, custom wood countertops, two thirdfloor balconies, a full downstairs with a pool table, a work out bike and a hot tub, and my personal favorite – a back porch that overlooks the lake. Just picture yourself waking up to that amazing view, drinking your morning coffee as you sit back in the rocking chair taking in the serenity of the lake as the fog slowly rolls off the top of the water. The feeling is almost surreal, knowing you are amongst nature in its truest form, something untouched by man.

are all about bears- from wood carvings in the pillars to the furniture, to figures and decorations that can be found throughout. I think Fred and Janice were very clever in naming these cabins as you truly feel like a bear in hibernation from the rest of the world. Away from your hectic schedule and work, for once can let your mind be at ease and not have to

worry about the demands of your life. As amazing as the cabins are on the inside, if you love nature than you are going to have to walk outside and explore the many sights that Lee county Kentucky has to offer. And the best part is, if you are looking to do some exploring, you don’t even have to leave the property. With numerous hiking trails and walking paths, as well as cliffs, geological formations and many other unique sights, you can surely get your fix of nature on this 32 acre retreat. They also have a boat so you can take a trip around the lake for a different perspective; or possibly throw out a line to catch some catfish for lunch. Oh yeah, and did I mention – right outside the cabin doors are numerous 50 million year old caves, one of which boasts cave carvings that date back to what archaeologists believe to be over 8,000 years old. In fact if you are an adventure seeker and consider yourself to be the “outdoorsy” type you even have the option of staying in one of the caves overnight. “How would you like to stay in a 50 million year old hotel,” jokes Fred, “we have that!” “This is an amazing cabin and

Bear Lair Cabin For those with a smaller group, the second one bedroom cabin is the perfect fit, and sleeps four comfortably. Located right down the road from the Sleepy Bear’s Dream, the Bear Lair too sits right on the lake, with a back porch that overlooks the serene body of water and pristine nature. Built a few years ago, this cabin is just as beautiful and showcases the same craftsmanship and attention to detail as its sister cabin next door. As their names imply, these cabins

The woods, trails, cliffs and caves and wildlife are amazing to experience. My two eleven year olds had a blast on the fishing boats this weekend. The cabin was well-equipped with everything we needed. We loved playing with the sweet dogs too. I’ve stayed at several cabins throughout Tennessee and Kentucky and this is by far my favorite. We will definitely be back. Thanks for the memories!” On our visit, my husband and I were very fortunate, as Fred gave us a

grand tour of the property, showing us the magnificent rock formations and caves. They truly are an impressive sight and as you gaze up in wonderment at these breathtaking geological formations that date back over 50 million years old it really does put your life into perspective. Each nook and cranny and uniquely formed layer tells a story of days past and one can only imagine everything these rocks have been through in their life span. With all the activities that can be found by merely stepping out the cabin doors, even more can be found

in the surrounding area, from rock climbing the magnificent cliffs to hiking the trails in the state parks, to fishing and canoeing the waterways; they even have zip lining only a few miles away. In fact, you might not be aware of this, but Lee county Kentucky is ranked among the best rock climbing destinations in the world. “People travel from all over the world to rock climb here,” says Janice. When you visit I also recommend you visit the Red River Gorge – one of Kentucky’s famous sights. A natural bridge that overlooks a steep 100 foot + drop off,

the Red River Gorge really is a magnificent sight. Bear Track Lake Adventures truly is a nature lover’s dream and it is with a heavy head that I leave here today and return to reality; although I seek comfort in knowing I will once again return to this beautiful oasis and revisit the many amazing memories I have made on this wonderful trip. So, next time you are looking to escape from reality to a place where your stresses will simply melt away, where you can finally be at peace and recharge your batteries, I suggest you take a little trip to Bear Track Lake Adventures – it is a trip you will surely cherish for the rest of your life! Heads Up Ladies! Check out the Fashion Steals at the Ten Dollar Store!

“Where everything is Ten Dollars or Less! And Always New!” By Katie Thomas If you love fashion and enjoy updating your look and your wardrobe without breaking the bank, then you’ve got to stop by The Ten Dollar Store, a clothing, fashion and accessory discount outlet located right on State Road 54 in New Port Richey. The Ten Dollar Store has what you need to look beautiful – sundresses, tank tops, skirts, tops, rompers and leggings to sunglasses, belts, jewelry, hats and more – and all for ten dollars or less! You will find the hottest ladies’ trends that are perfect for Florida weather at The Ten Dollar Store at wholesale prices, which means you are getting the best new styles at the same price many retailers have to pay! Started by long time community resident and business owner Donna Ferrante, who also owns and operates Donna’s Cleaning Angels, The Ten Dollar Store has women’s clothing, accessories and beachwear for 50 to 80 percent off retail pricing. Everything in the store is new merchandise and offers

fashionistas the chance to shop for great items without the high markup that you encounter at the mall or other big department stores. Donna’s business, The Cleaning Angels, is well known throughout the Tampa Bay Area and she feels that meeting so many women here in the Tampa Bay area has given her insight into what women throughout the area are wearing. “I have lived and operated my business here for 25 years,” shares Donna. “I saw an opportunity to offer local residents fabulous clothes and accessories that fit the Florida lifestyle and weather at discount prices.” Ladies Love a Good Deal! Donna and her partner Steve Insolia came up with the idea for The Ten Dollar Store, while working their festival booths in Naples. Steve recalls, “One day Donna and I were working our clothing booth in Naples and we had a ton of handbags that we wanted to get rid of by the end of the trip. I suggested to Donna to price all our bags at ten dollars. We sold out in

Donna says, “Any business that is successful is because the owners put their heart and soul into it. This is a blast for us! We are having fun and enjoying working with our clients. We have our store up front that one or both of us is always at and in the back of the building we run Donna’s Cleaning Angels. Pairing the two together in the same building has made us more efficient and streamlined as

Ten Dollars, Everyday, Guaranteed! When you step inside The Ten Dollar Store, you will be amazed by all the bright colors, variety of styles for all ages and unique fashion designs. The music is great and the store is brightly decorated and easy to move around in. You will always find outstanding service and help inside the store from Steve or Donna. I was delighted by all the diverse clothing styles and accessory options. I found items priced for only ten dollars that I had seen in other stores for over forty! Steve and Donna always have five dollar deals that include a clothing rack, sunscreens, bronzers, tanning oils, earrings, tanks, and even reading glasses. The couple is always updating their store and special prices with new items, so if you find something you like, go ahead and make the purchase because their items don’t stay in store for long! “We buy from a lot of different vendors and make it our goal to always keep new merchandise moving through the store,” says Donna. “We cater to women and girls who live in Florida. Reflections at St. Luke’s Getting Older Doesn’t Have to Mean Looking Older!

Dr. Nicolas Villanustre, MD Plastic surgery in 2014 is nothing less than amazing! The technological and surgical advances in the field enable skilled surgeons to turn back the clock on the image in the mirror like never before. As a 47-year-old with

34

two adult children and a teen, I love my body because it is strong and it has carried life and carried me through several necessary surgeries – but still, when I look in the mirror, I take a finger and lift my brow, and wow, there is that youthful eye from ten years ago! Let’s face it, it isn’t just the brow and eyelids that start drooping as we age, so isn’t it great to know that we have options? The decision to have plastic surgery is very personal – after all you are altering your appearance – so you want a plastic surgeon who is skilled and trained in the latest techniques, who will really listen to your desires, who will take a conservative approach for a natural result, and one who will treat you like royalty. If you are considering plastic surgery and want the very best for yourself, please

meet Nicolas Villanustre, MD, at Reflections at St. Luke’s in Clearwater. Double Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery, and fellowship-trained, Dr. Villanustre in an award-winning plastic surgeon who specializes in plastic surgery of the face, breasts and body. He is known for his expertise in performing naturallooking procedures including breast enhancement, facial rejuvenation, fullbody contouring and liposuction. Of course, the fact that Dr. Villanustre was chosen to partner with the prestigious St. Luke’s Cataract and Laser Institute will probably clue you in that he is brilliant at eyelid surgery and brow lifts. There are many reasons to choose plastic surgery, but every one of them is personal, so you deserve a surgeon who will focus on you and your reasons for surgery. Dr. Villanustre is the kind of doctor who will make you feel like it is okay to open up about what is

bothering you. It isn’t easy to face our flaws and sometimes what we see as a major flaw is something that is not a big deal to a plastic surgeon. “When someone comes in for the initial consultation, they can expect a lot of listening and a lot of understanding,” says Dr. Villanustre. “I want them to be comfortable with me from the beginning. Listening is so important because sometimes a little change can shift the way they see themselves and change their whole perspective.” His patients love his manner and the excellent results! Alison G., a fitness professional who chose to use Dr. Villanustre, says, “When I met with Dr. Villanustre, he was totally focused on my needs. He wanted to know my thoughts and concerns, and what I wanted to accomplish. He earned my trust immediately. I am extremely pleased with the results.” Dr. Villanustre is very passionate about helping women to feel beautiful

A Plastic Surgeon With International Experience In 2000, after graduating from the Universidad de la Republica in his native Uruguay, Dr. Villanustre entered a highly competitive foreign medical residency program. After being accepted, he moved to the United States and trained in general surgery and plastic surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine. “I wanted to do surgery,” Dr. Villanustre says, “because I love all medicine, but surgery allows me to obtain a therapeutic result right away. I was able to fix a patient quickly and get patient satisfaction quickly, rather than just treat an illness for months with medications. That was one of the reasons I wanted to be a surgeon: I was able to perform and produce a result with my hands.” Dr. Villanustre became a full-time member of the Department of Surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine, rising to the position of Assistant Professor of Plastic Surgery, where he trained future plastic surgeons for four years. While he was a faculty member at Indiana University School of Medicine, he had the opportunity to travel to South America to work with worldrenowned plastic surgeon Dr. Ivo Pitanguy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he focused on learning Dr. Pitanguy’s techniques for breast surgery and body contouring to build upon his own techniques. The many learning and teaching experiences, both stateside and internationally, that Dr. Villanustre brings to his practice are truly beneficial to his patients. He has the skill, experience and kindness that you want to

find in a plastic surgeon. beautiful, functional and unique. Customers receive the best care imaginable with Keith Sontag, the Sales Manager, Heather Link, the Office Manager (Extraordinaire), and Capital Millwork’s newest addition, Jessica Elder, who has an extensive background in millwork. Koch says, “We particularly enjoy partnering with people. Our clients come in and look at our showroom, they sit down with us and while we review the plans for their home, they are able to look at the windows, doors

and fixtures in person instead of choosing from a short list. Most of the time, our clients can touch it, feel it and see it, before they choose.” Koch welcomes the opportunity to share his building experience and expertise with homeowners, designers, architects and other contractors involved in home improvement projects. What’s nice about choosing Capital Millwork is that you can order from them, but do your own installation or use your own contractor if you choose; or Capital Millwork’s skilled

craftsmen can do your installation. You can be as involved as you’d like in any phase of your project. He says, “I am qualified to install everything that we sell. I am state certified, licensed and insured, which means that our clients can rest assured that the job will be done right.” The Harrington family, who recently worked with Capital Millwork on a remodeling project, said, “From the time we entered the business, we were greeted by a friendly staff that proved to be not only courteous but also possessed a complete knowledge of their products. We were able to select cabinet pulls and front door hardware that perfectly accented our home. We love our custom wood accent doors, chosen after several options were presented to us in picture form. Pictures were taken of our home and then the doors that were possibilities were superimposed so that we had a better idea of the final product. We are confident that Capital Millwork will be our first stop when we start our next project.” Make a Lasting Impression! Finishing touches make all the difference in the appearance and functionality of your home. Imagine going

to a prom but forgetting to wear makeup! Or forgetting your tie on a job interview! Sometimes it’s the smallest touches that can make the largest impression! Why be typical when you can be outstanding? For example, maybe you have a kitchen that needs some updating. Perhaps your cabinets are perfectly functional, but they have an outdated look! By changing and adding unique hardware to your cabinets, you can make both update them and add modern details to your home’s architectural décor. Instead of visiting the wall of boring knobs at the hardware store, come and see all of the beautiful hardware options at Capital Millwork. Honestly, it’s a lot of fun! They have options for every style, from traditional to modern, to even hand-blown accents created by artists all over the world. What’s more, the staff knows how to guide you. Koch says, “I often have customers take one of their cabinet doors right into the showroom, that way we can actually see what the knobs will look like. No point in guessing when we have a showroom!” He adds, “Here you’ll receive higher quality, and you can have higher expectations.”

When you are ready for your home to reflect your personal style, call Capital Millwork for exceptional service and a perfect end result. Imagine the Possibilities! The possibilities for home improvement are endless at Capital Millwork! You’ll be surprised and impressed by some of their design solutions, for example, think about that bathroom mirror in your master suite. Is it starting to turn at the edges? Taking out a mirror can be a big deal, often necessitating drywall work and a complete remodel! Instead of doing all of that, Capital Millwork offers a relatively affordable solution that can be installed quickly and completely transform the room. Do you still have popcorn ceilings? Then you know the impact that a ceiling style can have on a room. Today there are new ways to change the entire look and feel of a room by adding prefinished tongue and groove lumber for ceilings! In fact, these are the perfect solution to the back patio, where after many years the ceiling tends to droop.

Koch says, “Drywall is not meant to be outside, which is why after a number of years, it has to be completely redone. This product is a great solution and can completely transform your lanai.” B. Francis has worked with Capital Millwork on a number of projects from cabinet hardware to wrought iron staircase railings and hardwood flooring, they said, “I believe that once you find people that know your needs, and that you trust their opinions, you form a bond and just know that your vision will become real.” Capital Millwork is located at 32704 US Hwy. 19 North in Palm Harbor, behind Chick-fil-a. Canine Estates Offers Companionship, Love, Safety and Hope for Dogs Who Need a Home! “Saving One Tail at a Time” is the motto of Canine Estates, Inc, a non-profit (501c3) adoption and sanctuary for dogs, which is located right here in Palm Harbor. And yes, they have some beautiful dogs for adoption that can bring you joy and unconditional love. Canine Estates was started by three sisters - Sybil Freeman, Jayne Sidwell, and Barbara Erskine – in 2011 to offer a homelike environment for small dogs that have been abandoned, neglected or simply surrendered by their owners for various reasons. Jayne and her husband Greg Sidwell started rescuing dogs some years ago and soon realized they could not possibly house all the dogs in need. They purchased a home and renovated it for the dogs! Thus, Canine Estates was born! Growing up in Alabama as children, people started dropping dogs on their front door knowing the families would take care of them. These kind folks wanted to make a difference so instead of retiring; Canine Estates became their retirement. Canine Estates is unique in that

Continued from page 1 restaurant, fresh fish is always a guarantee; they can make this promise because they always know exactly where each fish comes from – their very own fishing boats! Brought in daily, every fish that enters their restaurant is caught by one of their six commercial fishing boats. Tyson says “We bring fish in with the intention of running out of them daily, that way freshness is always a guarantee.” Conveniently located right next door to each other on Tampa road in Oldsmar, Rumba Island Grill and Salt Rock Tavern are merely a hop, skip and a jump from Westchase, which means you don’t have to travel far to enjoy this delicious cuisine first hand.

Salt Rock Tavern Offering a blend of a lot of the same ingredients that made Salt Rock Grill so famous, Salt Rock Tavern incorporates the same dedication to quality into the tavern vibe to bring you a unique spin on some of your classic favorites; from fresh seafood to certified Angus beef, chef-inspired flatbreads to hand-tossed salads. Oh yeah, and did I mention, as a world-class tavern they offer an exceptional selection of hand-crafted brews from local breweries such as Rapp Brewing, 7venth Sun and Pair O’ Dice to name a few. With 37 beers on tap, 20 of which are locally brewed, they have brews that pair perfectly with everything and anything on the menu. “Our goal was to create a laid back environment to where guests can come in and have any experience they want to have that evening – whether they have come in for a couple drinks and a few small plates or for a surf and turf meal with a lobster table; and of course everything in between,” says Tyson. Taking a look at their menu – drinks on one side and food on the

other – Frank and Tyson spared no expense in providing an exceptional selection; whether you have come to drink, eat, or both. After suggestions from Tyson and our fabulous server Maha, on our past visit, my husband and I shared a few different items, starting with the roasted Veggie Flatbread. As much as I love my meat, this flatbread was amazing, and made up for the lack of meat in so many ways; starting with the creamy goat cheese crumbled on top! Consisting of a doughy, crispy crust loaded with toppings, including juicy chunks of roasted tomatoes, sweet fire-roasted peppers, asparagus and grilled Portobello mushrooms and topped with a layer of cheese, this flatbread is a Mecca of flavor! Or maybe the Oldsmar Flatbread, featuring rotisserie chicken, nueske bacon, caramelized onions, wild mushrooms, mozzarella and fresh herbs is more your style! If you are looking for a light, fresh app to enjoy alongside your favorite libation, the Seared Ahi Tuna Napoleon is the way to go! Layered atop crispy wontons, the Napoleon showcased exquisitely prepared tuna with a tasty combination of avocado, scallions, and pickled ginger topped with a sweet balsamic reduction. In the mood for something different? They offer many other great appetizer and small plate options including, twin

filet mignon k-bobs, parmesan truffle fries and spicy honey garlic wings, to name a few. Looking towards the middle of the menu you will find a nice selection of dinner entrees, including their rotisserie chicken. A staple item used throughout the menu in numerous different preparations, their famous rotisserie chicken, a whole half chicken served over a bed of their creamy potatoes and swimming in juice and broth, is sure to satisfy any hunger! Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, this seasoned chicken is loaded with flavor and tastes great dipped in the yummy potatoes. If you love burgers, than you have to try their Ybor Burger, a premium Angus patty topped with guava jelly, melted Gruyere cheese, potato sticks, nueske bacon and their secret tavern sauce. “This burger is my favorite,” says Maha. “I didn’t know if I’d like it at first – I’ve never heard of jelly on a burger before – but the sweet jelly, combined with the smoky bacon, crunchy potato sticks and sharpness of the cheese provides a taste that is like none other.” One thing is for sure, no matter what you order on the menu, exceptional taste and a remarkable presentation is always a guarantee! Flipping the menu over to reveal the drinks, there is no shortage of crafty concoctions, from wines, champagne

and of course beer, to specialty mixed drinks and delicious martinis – my personal favorite is their Blueberry Thrill Martini made with Stoli Vodka and muddled blueberries, shaken with fresh lime juice and a dash of club soda. If you have not tried the Sunday brunch at Salt Rock Tavern than you are missing out! Served every Sunday from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., for $18.90, this fabulous brunch includes your choice of 2 mimosas, Bloody Marys or Screw Drivers, alongside their amazing chefcreated selection of fresh food. Featuring a huge variety, their brunch has everything from freshly shucked oysters, an omelet station and biscuits and gravy, to freshly smoked salmon, and a carving station for beef and ham. mouth-watering food temptations, one thing is for certain – you have arrived at right place for a great time! Boasting some of the very best Caribbean cuisine on this side of the Atlantic, the menu at Rumba certainly depicts the diverse island cultures and showcases a little bit of everything. From fresh fish, and deliciously smoked poultry, beef and pork, to sandwiches, salads and finger foods, whether you want something from the sea or the land, the chefs at Rumba will serve up something sure to tanta-

lize your taste buds. Chef Sean Reynolds says, “Rumba Island Grill has the best food and cheapest prices in the area, and all it takes is one bite or sip to be hooked!” On our previous visit, my husband and I decided to try a few of the options recommended to us by chef Sean, starting with the tuna nachos and jerk chicken wings. As we waited in anticipation for our appetizers to arrive our server Traci brought us some of their homemade corn bread muffins, which were a great snack to munch on. The perfect finger food for sharing, the tuna nachos are fabulously light and refreshing. Layered with avocado, generous pieces of sesame encrusted tuna and a jalapeño on top, the crunchiness of the nacho bottom was a great complement to the tuna and the added herbs and spices combined for a really refreshing taste. On the other side of the spectrum we tried the jerk chicken wings, which we are so glad we ordered! Dusted with a delicious coating of seasoning the amazingly crispy skin of the jerk chicken wings had just the right amount of spice and when dipped into their yummy side sauces – cranberry bbq and mango bbq – the taste was exceptional.

East Lake Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

While waiting for our entrees, Traci brought over a couple of their fiesta house salads, which come included with their entrees. A colorful work of art, the fiesta salad came loaded with fresh mango salsa, and was garnished with fresh papaya – yum! If you love seafood, than you are going to adore their selection of fresh seafood, including the Herb Encrusted Mahi Mahi. Served in a lemon caper sauce, the herb crust perfectly complemented the creamy sauce and the fresh capers came together with the seasoned fish for a taste that was out of this world. Served with two sides – I chose the Jamaican greens and sautéed veggies – this meal preparation was fabulous! If you are more of a land lover, than you will be equally as happy with their selection of poultry, beef and pork and if you are feeling a bit hungry I suggest you try their Barbados Ribs. Doused in a mango BBQ sauce, the tender, juicy ribs basically fell off the bones and the sweet BBQ sauce provided a remarkable contrast to the smoky flavor of the ribs. For our sides we chose their Island coleslaw and coconut rice – both of which were really tasty! Needless to say, after this amazing meal we did not leave hungry, and we

still had plenty of leftovers to take home for later! “We have very generous portion sizes,” says Sean. “I have ever heard of anybody complaining that they are still hungry after eating here.” Served until 5:45 p.m., Rumba also has a very reasonable Early bird menu p.m. and offers a variety of options ranging from $6 to $11. At Rumba Island Bar & Grill it is always happy hour; all day every day you will find BOGO deals on many of their signature cocktails, as well as wines for $3 a glass and bud, bud light, and miller light drafts for $1.50! They also offer 12 beers on tap, numerous bottled beers, wines, a lengthy list of cocktails and so much more. Rumba also has live music every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights; so come in, sit back and unwind from your hectic day out on the patio, and let your worries slip away! Rumba Island Bar & Grill is located at 3687 Tampa Road in Oldsmar. Their hours are Mon. – Thurs. 11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m.; Fri. and Sat. 11:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.; Sun. 11:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. In true island spirit, the restaurant will stay open later to accommodate guests.
