Owners, Angela and Mike Martinez work together to make sure that every order at Amici Pizza II is handprepared and one could even say, made with love. Who knows if they will pass the business down to the next generation, or if their lovely daughters, Mikayla and Destiny, will be opening an Amici Pizza III, but lucky for us, Amici Pizza II is in full swing.

Your friends, Michael and Angela Martinez, owners at Amici Pizza II!

There’s nothing like that first gooey hot bite of pizza, the perfect marriage of crispy dough, fresh mozzarella cheese and homemade sauce! With a beautifully prepared salad on the side and some garlic knots bathed in just the right amount of garlic and melted butter, well, let’s be honest, it’s my version of the perfect meal! Amici Pizza II, located at 5328 Little Road in New Port Richey, in the River Crossing Shopping Center, is the real deal! With sauce recipes passed down through the generations from Sicily, and pizza made the Brooklyn way, Amici Pizza II is authentic, delicious and they deliver!

Truth be told, the history of Amici Pizza II is a bit romantic. The original Amici Pizza was opened in 2001 by a husband and wife team who had just moved down from New York. Their daughter, Angela, worked there with them, and helped them run the popular restaurant in Wesley Chapel. Then, Michael Martinez began working there. As it turns out he was also from New York, and Michael and Angela had actually gone to high school together! Before long, they fell in love, got married and were just about to start their family in New Port Richey when they decided that maybe it was time to open up Amici Pizza II! That was back in 2005, and now Amici Pizza II is celebrating its 8th Anniversary!

cia@completecaresystems.com. On Nov. 10, the play The Witnesses will be performed. The Witnesses follows an adventure that began in Jerusalem, where a small group of disciples empowered by the Holy Spirit, traveled across the Roman Empire, preaching, teaching and healing. Wherever God sent them, lives and history were changed. This is an inspiring account of the rapid spread of Christianity throughout the work and the wonders of life in the first century. Portrayed with masterful storytelling, The Witnesses also features talented singers and musicians playing acoustic and percussion instruments from guitars, accordions and cello to African and Irish drums. This exciting 90minute musical is compelling theatre for the whole family. It stars Gary Richardson and Danny Hamilton, along with an amazing cast and crew. Tickets are available from $12 to $23 and may be purchased online at Generationscc.com. Various Bible studies programs take place during the season and one does not have to be a GCC member to participate. There is an information booth in the lobby for your assistance. You Don’t Need to Leave Trinity to Get The Best of Philly By Dara Tucker For the past five years that I’ve written for Neighborhood News and Lifestyles my friends, family and neighbors often want to hear what my latest story is about; sometimes they even give me suggestions. By far, The Best of Philly Cheesesteak House has been one of the most suggested and eagerly anticipated stories from people I know. Time and time again I’ve heard praises like, “I love Best of Philly. When you need a quote for them, I’m your girl!” It seems once people have eaten at The Best of Philly Cheesesteak House, they are not only loyal, but are so in love with Best of Philly they want everyone else to know it! And I couldn’t agree with them more. Owners Mike and Debbie Natoli opened The Best of Philly Cheesesteak House in the Woodgate Plaza on Seven Springs Boulevard in November 2005. Over the past eight years customers have been able to count on the consistently delicious food coming from the grill because 95 percent of the time Mike’s the one cooking your meal.

10

Owners Debbie & Mike Natoli make The Best of Philly Cheesesteak House a welcoming, local favorite.

The grill is right up front so Mike can interact with the customers, and the customers can see their meal being prepared. Mike says that customers often come in and order their regular. Mike knows exactly what they want – even better than the customers. It’s not until the rare occasion that Debbie gives Mike a break from the grill that

For Ad Info 727-943-0551 • www.NeighborhoodNewsFL.com

customers realize they don’t remember exactly what their regular is! When you place your order, you can order like they do in Philly, “with or without,” meaning with or without onions. The main cheese Mike uses is White American because it melts in the best with the meat, and makes the cheesesteak the juiciest. They can also make it with Provolone, or if you like it South Philly style, you can get it with Cheeze Whiz. Grilled onions, mushrooms, and sweet peppers can be mixed in with your meat; this is called the “Florida.” If you like to add marinara sauce to your “Florida” you can order the “Sloppy.” You can rest assured that you will only get your sandwich on an authentic Amoroso roll. The Best of Philly Cheesesteak House has their rolls brought right from the Amoroso Bakery in Pennsylvania. They are so soft and fresh; there is no comparison. My whole family loves the rolls, and not just the cheesesteaks. Everything The Best of Philly makes except their club sandwich is on the Amoroso roll. And the 1/2-pound burger on an Amoroso roll is unbelievably delicious! The first

OCTOBER 2013

time we ordered burgers, we didn’t realize they were on the rolls, so we were looking for a typical round bun. Little did we understand what a better treat we were in for by having a burger on an Amoroso roll! If you can tear yourself away from the Philly cheesesteak (we still always have to order at least one in my family) I highly recommend the chicken parmesan sandwich on an Amoroso roll. I can’t put my finger on what Mike does to make it so delicious, and when I questioned him about it I was told I was starting to get into his secrets; but I couldn’t help but to try to find out! I do know this – the chicken is tender, not overcooked, and of very good quality. The outside is crispy, yet still feels light. It holds up to the marinara sauce, so when you bite into it you get both the crispiness of the chicken and the softness of the roll with the oozing cheese and marinara soaking into it. A great tip Debbie and Mike shared with me is to heat my leftovers, if there are any, in the toaster or oven the next day with a piece of aluminum over it.

and a drink. If you prefer a crispier fry, shoestring fries also are available. Mike Hlady of New Port Richey has been a fan of The Best of Philly Cheesesteak House for years. Mike says, “The quality of the food for the value is excellent. There is no coupon required; cash specials are convenient because you don’t need a coupon, just to pay with cash, for a large amount of food. It’s great food fast, but not fast food.” Cash Only Specials: The Best of Philly Cheesesteak House has a couple of 1. Fresh cut fries can have a side of gravy or cheese on the side. 2. The Italian’s meat and cheese great “cash only” spetopped with crisp lettuce and tomatoes on an Amaroso roll is a great reminder of how good cials this fall. Custom Windows and Doors Of Pasco, Where Custom is Standard By Kim Thomas If you need any type of door, window or components, visit Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco (CW&D). Family owned and operated by the Leggiere family for the nearly 22 years that it has occupied the corner of US 19 and Grand Boulevard in Port Richey, CW&D has earned a stellar reputation for fair pricing, excellent service and honesty. Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco was founded by Bob and Carole Leggiere. Bob passed away September 16, 2012. I am fortunate to have met with Bob a few times over the past years. Sitting at his desk, Bob would lean in a bit and in his straightforward, no-nonsense manner, he told me exactly what set CW&D apart. Working alongside his sons Gary and Bob Jr., Bob left a legacy that the Leggiere family continues – exemplary service provided in a no-pressure sales environment with knowledgeable staff and skilled installation. Recently, Carole, who assumed a leadership role as President of the company, invited me to come and

meet a few of the great people that are part of the CW&D family. Gary Leggiere is the Vice President of Sales and Marketing, and like his father, he does everything possible to make certain that every customer is completely satisfied. “I don’t give up,” says Gary. “If someone is having a problem such as a hard-to-fit opening, I will exhaust all resources to accommodate people.” I spoke with a customer who experienced this dedication firsthand. Diane of Port Richey and her husband John have used CW&D quite a few times throughout the years and for a couple of different properties. Diane says, “We found a very unusual door style that we wanted and of course it was outrageously expensive, but Gary and Lydia researched and researched and found one for much less. Since we moved to Florida in ’93, we have been to Custom Window and Doors for windows, shutters and doors – most recently on our condo. They are excellent! Of course, we knew Bob and miss him, but Gary lives in the business. He knows it backwards and forwards.” Assisting Gary and handling the

I needed someone skilled and found Ralphie and sent him out. The customer called and said, ‘Where did you find this guy? He is phenomenal!’ And he really is. His favorite word is integrity and he cares about the integrity of the door because his name is on it.” Ralphie describes his work style as, “between old-school and contemporary.” He adds, “I learned from old craftsmen – some are gone now – but I have continued to work with new materials such as composites, plastics and fiberglass, which are extremely durable and a big advantage in a climate like Florida.” If you want a beautifully stained

Carole says, “The doors she does always look great and she stands behind her work.” Products & Services Contractors in the area have long trusted CW&D to provide a superior product at a fair price, but you don’t have to be a contractor to shop here. CW&D serves customers who want installation services and do-it-yourself customers, offering custom windows and doors for every budget and for every type of building. Additionally, Custom Windows and Doors sells and

installs all types of hurricane protection products, and supplies and manufactures all types of screening, such as garage door screens and hideaway screens. The company offers repair/replacement services for all types of screening, glass and vinyl. Customers are in good hands with Tom Goodworth, the service tech for CW&D, who has over 35 years of experience. If you are thinking about new windows and doors, the showroom at CW&D is a great place to start. You’ll find many styles of doors and windows from leading manufacturers such as PGT, Silver Line Windows by Anderson, Jeld-Wen Windows and Doors, Therma-Tru Doors, Plastpro Fiberglass Doors, and Gorell Windows, as well as many other top manufacturers in the industry. These days, living in Florida, there is much to know before you can replace your old windows. Depending on your address, there are different types of requirements for building permits, and you may be required to install storm protection for windows. The experts at CW&D handle everything from pulling the building permit to the professional installation of your windows and doors. Hear From Customers Jim and Melody of New Port Richey had CW&D replace all of their windows. Jim says, “They are very reasonably priced compared to the other companies we shopped. They gave us a date and delivered and installed right on time. The windows look great. There was a small place where the stucco needed repair; the guy they sent came within three days and did a great job, too.” Nigel and Janet of Hudson were looking for a company that did custom work and stopped by the showroom when they saw it on US 19. Nigel says, “They were very good. We

had the whole house done and I was very pleased with the windows and doors.” Ralph of New Port Richey also replaced all of the windows in his house at CW&D. “The experience with them is wonderful,” shares Ralph. “We’ve been doing business with them for over 14 years. We have had inserts made for doors. My dad had them replace his garage screen door and I put all new windows in my house. They put each window in very carefully and cleaned up after each one right away. Gary is right up on everything and if you need additional work, the people they refer you to are great too!” Whether you want the very best windows and doors on the market or more affordable, yet still high-quality windows and doors, you’ll find it at this local, friendly, family owned and operated business. Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco has 100s of choices for new windows and doors and the company’s repair shop carries hard-to-find parts for older windows. You’ll find what you need at Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco, but you won’t find a high-pressure sale. Sounding like his father, Gary says, “If I am shopping, I want to be educated about the products. We inform our customers about the products we carry. We never try to pressure anyone. I don’t want people to feel, ‘I wish I’d looked around more.’ I want people to feel that they have researched their options and made the right decision.” Custom Windows and Doors of Pasco is located at 7940 US 19 N in Port Richey. Hours are Mon.– Fri., 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and from 9 a.m.–noon on Sat. After hours appointments can be arranged. Save Time and Money with Grout Tech By Kim Thomas Before you spend thousands of dollars remodeling and re-tiling your bathroom or kitchen be sure to call Grout Tech for a FREE estimate on cleaning or repairing old dingy tile and grout. Grout Tech can breathe new life into your existing tile work, making everything shine like new at a fraction of the cost. Grout Tech is a family owned business serving Pinellas and Pasco Counties. With nearly ten years of experience in the industry, Grout Tech specializes in cleaning and sealing tile and grout, re-coloring grout, re-caulking showers and tubs, and repairing grout and broken tiles. Grout Tech will renew existing grout and tile to its original beauty by cleaning and maintaining the tile and grout lines. John Cole and his wife were ready to re-tile their entire bathroom before calling BJ at Grout Tech. “Our bathroom tile was over 40 years old it was looking grungy and very dull. We called Grout Tech and we are extremely pleased with our results!

18

We saved so much money by having the grout in our shower resurfaced and the tile cleaned and it looks brand new,” John shares. BJ is happy to set your appointment, come out and give you a free estimate. She stresses, “It is important for me to be respectful of our customers’ time so I will always arrive at the time we set.” In addition to always arriving in a timely manner, BJ says that they can keep their prices low because they are a family owned business and not a franchise. She explains, “What many people don’t understand is that franchises are often forced to charge more for their services because they have to maintain their franchise fees, but not with Grout Tech.” Not only does Grout Tech keep its rates competitive, but the company will also honor any other quote as long as it is in writing. Because grout is a porous material, trying to remove stains is seemingly impossible. BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many services we offer and it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect,

They will then apply a color seal (of your choice). Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently protected from any stains. The color seal also guarantees against cracking, chipping and peeling. We had our family room, kitchen and dining room re-grouted. They also re-grouted the tub, shower and base of our toilet in our bathroom. They were fantastic! Not only were they professional and reliable but they also completed the job much faster than we had anticipated.”

Excellent Service Leads to Referrals Throughout the years, Grout Tech has grown through its many referrals from happy customers. People really appreciate that Grout Tech saves them time and money, but it is the excellent service provided that has really helped this business grow. Doris Strathearn, another Grout Tech success story, said that before calling Grout Tech her bathroom and guest bathroom shower and floor grout had deteriorated over time and the tiles were dull and stained. “The tile was in good condition but it was stained so we had Grout Tech come

The Taste of Trinity 5 Successfully Raised $12,000 for SSMS By Julie Kanehl In 2009, Seven Springs Middle School (SSMS) was looking for a way to raise funds to supplement the technology at the school, and together with their creative and inventive PTSO, headed up by President and Event Coordinator, Diana Jerome, The Taste of Trinity was born. The idea was a great one; pitched as a chance for many local restaurants and businesses to set up tables and offer something tasty to the guests while sharing information about their businesses. The best part? Everyone loved it, and every year The Taste of Trinity has been an event not to be missed, embraced by the businesses in Trinity and enjoyed by residents young and old. Taste of Trinity 5 took place on Saturday, September 14th, and for just $5 per person, or $15 for a familyfour-pack, Trinity residents got a big taste of what our community has to offer. The Taste of Trinity 5 (TOT5) was the largest of its kind, featuring nearly 80 local businesses and vendors

22

that offered something savory or something sweet at each table. The food is always a huge draw, and this year did not disappoint. Guests enjoyed a sampling from many of Trinity’s favorite spots, including slices of pizza from Westshore Pizza, goodies from Publix and desserts supplied by Sugar Darlings Cones & Cupcakes. Every vendor offered something to “taste” and between the great food and the entertainment, it was an awesome experience to see all of the people in our community come together to support the school. In fact, for many it was the warm feeling of community that took center stage, and many people attributed that to Diana Jerome who once again put together another amazing event. The fifth Taste of Trinity was more than a fundraiser, it was a dining and retail extravaganza that both entertained and informed guests. Jerome said, “What an incredible event we had this year! The best yet! 79 vendors and 1,000 patrons! We raised $12,000 for the students of our great middle school.” She added,

“This will go a long way towards enhancing the technological needs of the students. Technology is rapidly changing, and we need to keep up. For example, ten years ago we were still using something called film in cameras. Now, adults and children alike take thousands of digital photos without ever buying a roll of film.” This year’s event was sponsored by Ferman Chrysler, who brought an array of beautiful Jeep and Chrysler vehicles, The Pasco County Mounted Police Department, who were on hand (and hoof), The Pasco County Fire Department and Keep it Local. The entire day was jam-packed with live music, dance performances and competitions, karate demonstrations, and even a “Wings Blazin’ Challenge” put on by Buffalo Wild Wings. Family FUNdraising! With so many vendors, restaurants and local businesses represented, it would be impossible to name them all, but as a whole, TOT5 was part business expo, part fundraiser, and all party. This year, in addition to the out-

door campus and the cafeteria, the gymnasium was opened to allow for the many new vendors who wanted to participate. Astro Skate, who had been outside in the past, had an indoor bounce house in the gym where the kids bounced the day away, and the SPCA and Rugaz Rescue were in the courtyard with a few of their sweet animals who needed homes, and let me tell you, they were melting hearts left and right. Not too far away, Pony Tails Farm brought some of their furriest animals from the farm to play with, and kids of all ages made funny faces in the Photo Booth Rental, which took and printed retro-style photos in just a couple of minutes. The J.W. Mitchell Jazz Band performed beautifully in the cafeteria, and the dancers at Kelly’s Dance Academy had a playful dance-off with members of Dance Extreme Academy! More than entertainment and fun for the kiddos, The Taste of Trinity 5 was a great way for local residents to meet medical professionals like Dr. Unger from Florida Wellness and Rehab, the staff from Trinity Pediatric

Dentistry, and The Medical Center of Trinity, just to name a few. Everyone seemed to enjoy perusing the many tables and running into friends and neighbors. Something for everyone, businesses like Ramblin’ Rhodes Music, Fox Hollow Golf & Country Club, Publix, St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, MacKinnon Jewelers, Trinity Yoga & Massage and Thirty-One Gifts. Each vendor had

the opportunity to share information, give coupons and even giveaway prizes. Mark Shea said, “[Diana Jerome] is the bomb, and Trinity is fortunate to have the teachers, the principal, the students and the parents that work together to make a tremendous day like this occur. My hat is off to everyone involved!” Principal Chris Dunning was on

hand for the festivities and as always, said that he appreciated how the community came out to support the school. Jerome said, “The support that this event has received from the community has really blown us all away, and we hope that with each year, the event continues to grow.” Special thanks goes out to all of the businesses who participated in

this successful event and helped to raise money for SSMS, and to the administration of SSMS who opened up their school to our community. If you are interested in participating in next year’s Taste of Trinity, contact Seven Springs Middle School or stay tuned to the Neighborhood News and Lifestyles community announcements.

Suncoast Urgent Care is Where Patients Get In, Get Out & Feel Better Fast! By Amy Paterson Life is fast-paced, and time is of the essence, so when you’re feeling sick you probably don’t have time to sit at home waiting to get in to see a doctor. In most cases, Suncoast Urgent Care has everything necessary to make you feel better fast from all sorts of ailments, from the everyday illnesses such as common colds and strep throat to injuries that do not require the hospital emergency room. Scrapes, cuts and broken bones often happen after normal hours at doctors’ offices and many find that it is convenient, affordable and smart to seek medical care at Suncoast Urgent Care. Open seven days a week, and evenings with no appointment necessary, Suncoast Urgent Care is convenient and the friendly, competent medical professionals work hard, too, making sure that patients are seen quickly.

26

Founded by Families for Families Founded by families for families, Suncoast Urgent Care was originally named Trinity Urgent Care when it was opened July 2007 by John P. Opyoke, M.D. and Peter C. Duic, M.D. The doctors are joined by their wives in running two successful urgent care facilities – Susan Opyoke is a registered dietitian who is an integral part of the Doctor’s Choice Weight Loss program (developed and overseen by Drs. Duic and Opyoke) at Suncoast Urgent Care and Suzy Duic oversees the marketing. The doctors truly value family. The mission of Suncoast Urgent Care is to treat your family members as if they were their own. The doctors and their staff ensure quality and comfort to everyone from infants to seniors. Drawing from their years of experience in emergency medicine to create two state-of-the-art facilities – the

Dr. John Opyoke & Dr. Peter Duic other location is in Spring Hill – Dr. Duic and Dr. Opyoke are both residency-trained in emergency medicine and both doctors are Board Certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine; important because they are both specifically trained to handle all kinds of emergencies. The two doctors felt it was important to provide a place where people could feel comfortable bringing their families. They co-designed Suncoast Urgent Care to be upscale and comfortable with an exceptional level of care, so parents can feel secure about bringing their precious child in for medical care. They created an urgent care facility where they would want their own children treated. The spacious waiting room has a large, flat-

screen TV and a variety of hot coffee and tea, as well as hot chocolate. A separate children’s waiting room has many favorite DVDs, books and games. The eight treatment rooms are equipped with TVs, including a stateof-the-art digital x-ray room and a major procedure room for casting, splinting and suturing. Phyicals are offered for all ages, as well as school physicals and sports physicals for students. With a physical, children receive a gift of either a lanyard or drawstring backpack (while supplies last). T-Dap vaccinations and flu-shots also are available for patients upon request. And in case you didn’t hear, flu shots are completely covered by MediCare now. Dr. Duic received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and received his training in emergency medicine at Harvard Medical School. Prior to emergency medicine, Dr. Duic trained in orthopaedics and surgery for three years at University of Massachusetts Medical School. Supporting Businesses, Students & Community Community, as well as family, is of the utmost importance at Suncoast Urgent Care. It isn’t just families and individuals who have enjoyed the excellent care provided at Suncoast Urgent Care since it opened in Trinity in 2007. Its location in the Trinity Village Center on State Road 54 at the corner of Duck Slough Boulevard makes it centrally located for many businesses in the area. Suncoast Urgent Care works with local businesses by providing them with excellent care encompassing occupational care, jobrelated injuries, drug-screening, and pre-hire physicals. On-site testing is available for drug-screens and lab work. The doctors at Suncoast Urgent Care follow through with workman’s compensation patients, overseeing their care throughout recovery until they are ready to return to work. In addition to providing excellent health care in our community, the doctors and staff at Suncoast Urgent Care has partnered with area schools and support local charities. They were a sponsor for Cheval Cares 5K on September 28th benefiting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation. And, you may have noticed a pink toilet traveling around Trinity and New Port Richey this past month on a mission to “Flush Out Cancer.” With a $50 (or more) donation to Susan G. Komen, any

business had a flowery pink potty placed in front of their establishment, letting the community know that they participated in the effort to “Flush Out Cancer.” Two of Suncoast Urgent Care’s employees are trying to raise the $2300 it takes for them to participate the 2013-2014 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure®. With their hard work and dedication, I am sure they will meet their goal! Another way that Dr. Duic and Dr. Opyoke are helping out in our community is by mentoring college students in the health programs from Rasmussen and Kaiser Universities. Suncoast Urgent Care has also allied with Pasco-Hernando Community College, and offers the students special pricing for their healthcare needs. Suncoast Urgent Care offers residents of all walks of life the best medical attention available. If you find yourself sick or injured, give them a call and they will get you back on the right track and feeling great in no time. Suncoast Urgent Care is located in Trinity at 10730 SR 54, Suite 54. Hours are 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Mon. – Sat., and from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Sun. Please call 727-3723888 or visit them online at www.suncoastucc.com for more information. Florida Hospital Launches Pink Army Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel invites you to join the Pink Army, a fun campaign that strives to raise awareness and encourage women to get mammograms. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and is the perfect time to Join the Pink Army! One out of eight women will be affected by breast cancer in their lifetime. In fact, more than 225,000 women are estimated to be diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, and it is the one of the leading causes of cancer death in women. By having a routine mammogram and performing self-exams, women are much more likely to catch breast cancer at its early stages, where the chances of being cured are higher. This test is not only simple — it saves lives. Women often don’t get annual mammograms because they think they don’t have time or are afraid of finding something. But early detection is critical because a woman will be able to treat any cancer earlier and get a better prognosis. The treatment also can be less invasive and less difficult. Women can promote breast health by eating a healthy diet and maintaining a

34

normal weight, having an active exercise program, reducing stress where possible, tapping into a support network, performing monthly self-exams and having annual physical exams. Pink Army Soldiers Declaring War on Breast Cancer As part of a statewide effort, Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel is launching the Pink Army campaign to generate greater awareness about the life-saving benefits of annual mammograms and early detection. In the Pink Army campaign, each Pink Army “soldier” completes missions to move up the ranks. These missions include things like getting a mammogram, recruiting friends and even throwing a “Pink Party.” Once completed, each mission allows soldiers to climb the ranks and get fun, unique Pink Army rewards. Purchases of Pink Army gear and donations benefit the Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel Center for Women’s Health to provide mammograms to underinsured or uninsured women. We can win the fight against breast cancer. People can enlist, get screened and donate. Join the Pink Army today!

Captain Mike’s Professional Carpet Cleaning By Katie Thomas Keeping your home’s carpet clean is important for your family’s health and in keeping your home’s value. Many people spend much attention and time selecting the carpeting for their homes and scheduling a professional carpet cleaning can keep you investment looking clean and fresh. Captain Mike’s Professional Carpet Cleaning of Pasco County offers “green” carpet cleaning, which is safe for the environment and easy on you wallet, too. With Captain Mike’s Professional Carpet Cleaning, whether you want your carpet, tile or grout cleaned- you will receive superior service from the owner himself! Mike Manning is the owner and operator of Captain Mike’s Professional Carpet Cleaning, and assures every customer that he is always onsite to perform the work himself. A native of Pasco County, Mike decided to remain in the area in order to be close to his family and because of the love he has for his community. Mike is known as a family man and he treats everyone he meets with respect. Captain Mike always stands behind his work and wants to make sure it is exactly what you had in mind; his reputation is based on customer satisfaction, so he always makes sure to do the job to perfection. Jane says, “Mike did a wonderful job cleaning our carpets. We have two pets (a cat and a dog) and try to get our carpets cleaned every 6-8 months. Our child has asthma and keeping everything clean is a must. Mike’s prices were great and the service was even better.” An important thing to remember about carpets is that even though the

38

surface may look clean, there can be accumulating dirt and dust that causes rot below the surface. Modern carpets are designed to be stain-resistant, but many carpets can hold as much as one pound of dirt per square foot of floor space! Professional carpet cleaning benefits include: removal of dust, pet dandruff, microscopic bacteria and germs that can cause allergies within your family home. When you have your carpets professionally cleaned you can enjoy fresher air quality, as well as a more beautifully floor! “Since your carpet acts like a giant air filter, it is better to be clean or it will not clean the air in your home properly,” says Mike. “Most people with pets are amazed at how much pet hair and dander can come from even small pets, which usually ends up on the floor. Regular carpet cleaning can remove most, if not all of this by regular periodic carpet cleaning.” Captain Mike’s Professional Carpet Cleaning gives you upfront pricing and never tries to sell you on anything unnecessary. You will receive an estimate and all available options that meet your individual needs. Captain Mike not only cares for your budget, he makes a conscious effort to care for your family and pets by only using green, environmentally friendly products. No hazardous fumes or harsh chemicals are used during service because Mike believes in protecting you and your family. Some carpet cleaning chemicals can be hazardous to your health and may cause dizziness, nausea and headaches. With Captain Mike on the job, you will receive fresh, clean carpet with no chemicals left behind in your home or a toxic landfill somewhere!

Mike uses green products in grout and tile cleaning services, as he does with carpet cleaning. He says, “Green products don’t leave a lingering smell after their use. Another great thing about using green cleaners is that you don’t have to air the place out after using green products!” Green products will not harm you, your pets or family, getting the job done right without harmful chemicals!

This year, the elegant fundraiser was held on Sept. 28. The presenting sponsor was Greg Henry, Inc. This gala event is the Trinity Rotary Club’s signature fundraiser, which contributes to more than 90 children’s charities and organizations in Pasco

48

County. This year, the event netted an impressive $40,000 for these charities. In past years, some RCT themes have been: A Magical Moment in Time, Classic Hollywood Comes Alive, Bourbon Street, New Orleans, and Hot Night in Havana. This year’s theme was the Rotary Rat Pack, Vegas 60s Style, and the gala event was a simulation of Las Vegas glitz and glamour. Wearing their best 60s evening attire, guests were entertained by showgirls with their lavish, imaginative, glittering costumes, and huge headdresses. The showgirls performed on stage with a Sinatra impersonator. Guests enjoyed dancing to the music of the Hologram Band, a 9-piece band led by saxophonist Robert Kesig. The band played 60s style music and current pop. Paul Friedlander, RCT president elect, says, “Tonight the Heritage Springs Country Club transformation takes you back to the Vegas strip in the days of Frank, Dino, Sammy, Peter, Joey, Marilyn and the gang for an evening of singing, dancing and drinking in the style of the ‘Old Gang.’” The black-tie event, with tickets at $125 per person, featured “The Rat

Pack.” Libations of Rat Pack Manhattans and Martinis flowed, complemented by butler-passed appetizers followed by a gourmet surf and turf dinner, and a bevy of delectable desserts and coffee. Complimentary souvenir photos were also taken by Kenny Hatcher of K-2 Photography. Silent auctions featured many beautifully wrapped baskets stuffed with goodies that were generously donated by community residents and area businesses. The live auction also had a variety of donated items including a weekend for two at Innisbrook with 2 rounds of golf, or spa and dinner; a half-day fishing charter for two with local guide Capt. Stewart Ames; a multi-course dinner for 8 at Bonefish Grill in Trinity; more than $1,150 in gift cards from various stores, restaurants and movie theaters at the International Mall in Tampa; and 154,000 points from RCI timeshares for a one-week stay in a 3-bedroom condo anywhere in the world; plus more. There was a $500 door prize, which was won by Gil McWilliams. Rotarians played a large part in the event by selling sponsorships, tickets and advertising, securing silent and

live auction items, serving on committees and volunteering to set up and work the event. Marianne Grabowski, current RCT president says, “Our Club’s mission centers on bettering the lives of children and it is with that in mind that countless hours were spent putting this event together for your enjoyment.” New Beginning for GRH Bereavement Center Gulfside Regional Hospice (GRH) celebrated the rededication of its Bereavement and Community Outreach Center, located at 6224-6230 Lafayette St. in New Port Richey, with an Open House that featured various speakers, a ribbon cutting and memorial butterfly release at the newly renovated Hospice House and Bereavement Center. “This new beginning of the Bereavement and Community Outreach Center symbolizes growth and change, but holds tightly on to the core values of our mission to serve,” says Linda Ward, Gulfside’s president and CEO. “We are at this Open House to celebrate that mission together.” In addition to Ward speaking,

one of GRH’s founders, Carol Springer, spoke about being at the same site 23 years earlier when the original Hospice House was opened on August 30, 1990. Family members of hospice patients, as well as members of the operations and fundraising departments also spoke during the open house. Visitors saw updates to both the former Hospice House and the Bereavement Center while enjoying lunch. Members of the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce were also on hand to lead the ribbon cutting ceremony. At the new Center, bereavement support groups and individual counseling takes place. Spanish-speaking bereavement groups are also available. GRH’s bereavement services are available to community members, free of charge, regardless of previous association with the hospice. Licensed since 1989, GRH has been caring for patients and their families, providing the highest quality of care and loving support and giving medical treatment with comfort, dignity and respect. GRH employs 300 professionals, who care for more than 375 patients daily. Of those who die every year in the U.S., 25 percent are veterans. To help provide care and

support that reflects the important contribution made by these men and women, Gulfside has joined the “We Honor Veterans Program,” a pioneering campaign developed by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Org. in collaboration with the Dept. of Veterans Affairs. Gulfside also has many support groups for both individual and family counseling that meet weekly throughout Pasco County. The group emphasizes discussion and participation, focusing on the various aspects of grief and the healing process. There is also a Children’s Bereavement Program. Children, unlike adults, cannot draw on past experiences to help them deal with death. Gulfside’s Mending Hearts Children’s Bereavement Program offers special support groups and bereavement camps for both children and teens. This program also visits local schools throughout the year to perform a grief puppet show that Gulfside’s bereavement staff developed especially for children. Hike for Hospice —Sun., Nov. 10 GRH will hold its 2013 Hike for Hospice. The fundraiser will benefit the Hospice’s patient care and bereavement program for Pasco County

residents. The hike features a chip-timed 5K run at 8 a.m. followed by a leisurely 5K walk at 9 a.m. at the Rasmussen College Land O’Lakes/East Pasco Campus at 18600 Fernview St. in Land O’ Lakes. Life is Sweet at Sugardarlings Cones & Cupcakes! By Katie Thomas Sugardarlings Cones & Cupcakes, home to the best tasting, freshest cupcakes in the Tampa Bay Area, is a sweet business that has taken flight over the past three years. At Sugardarlings, the ice cream is delicious, but the cupcakes are the talk of the town! With a new warehouse and three storefronts located in New Port Richey, Palm Harbor and Lutz, Sugardarlings is celebrating growth and success from humble beginnings. Tasty creations are made from scratch every morning by talented bakers and plenty of love is put into each and every delicious flavor. You could call Sugardarlings’ cupcakes “love muffins,” a perfect nickname for the perfectly moist, flavorful cupcakes that are made with tender loving care. Jessica Beebe, owner and baker at Sugardarlings Cones and Cupcakes, opened her original store in Trinity, off Old CR 54 in February 2010. She opened her first store with goals insight to become a friendly and affordable, neighborhood ice cream parlor – Jessica never expected for her business to

take off all because of a simple sweet treat, the mighty cupcake. Jessica originally intended for cupcakes to be a side item at her first storefront, she actually started making them in her toaster oven! Within Jess’s first week of opening her doors, she sold over 300 cupcakes and immediately realized she would need a bigger oven to meet the demands of customers. At the time of opening Sugardarlings, Jess was working at Innisbrook Golf Resort in Tarpon Springs where she had been employed for over 13 years. Jess’s job primarily focused on food and beverage hospitality, a passion she has always possessed. Little did she realize, her attention would be needed at Sugardarlings full-time! Jess had no idea that within three years she would have three storefronts and a warehouse, all dedicated to providing handmade cupcakes to loyal fans of the original “love muffin.” An idea of a neighborhood ice cream shop turned into a local cupcake empire – sweet dreams are made of these! The name Sugardarlings was inspired by Jess’s grandmother. She

Jess

treats customers as if they are her own family and is happy to help out the local community in any way she can. Some might even say that the only thing sweeter than the Sugardarlings team, are the cupcakes and ice cream they serve! On a busy day, Sugardarlings’ three locations sell more than 2,000 cupcakes! Known for their extravagant

moistness and creamy fillings, Sugardarlings’ cupcakes are the perfect combination of sweet, savory delicious fun! Jess offers traditional flavors like Red Velvet, Vanilla, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Snickerdoodle, but she also incorporates specialty flavors that include Key Lime, Cannoli and Exotic Bliss (Jess’s favorite) which is filled with pineapple and cranberry topped off with hibiscus frosting! Jess has even gone as far as coming up with fabulous savory flavors that are perfect for dinner parties with friends; imagine how much fun it will be for guests to guess the unexpected flavors such as Sweet Corn and Pulled Pork, Spicy Chocolate, Maple Bacon or Wasabi cupcakes. Talk about an adventurous twist on the conventional styles! Many of Jess’s regulars comment that it is a blast to pair the savory cupcakes with beer and wine, making for a delicious and fun way to get the conversation started! Sugardarlings Cones & Cupcakes always introduces new seasonal flavors during the holidays. This year’s fall flavors include Pumpkin, Caramel Apple, Sweet Potato Casserole and Pecan Pie! There truly is no easier or more delicious treat than a batch of Sugardarlings’ cupcakes to bring to a holiday party! Sugardarlings’ cupcakes are made

using quality and wholesome ingredients such as sweet cream butter, whole milk, whipping cream, fresh fruit juices and rich quality chocolates just to name a few. Each and every cupcake is made to make you smile with every bite! Jess is currently turning out gluten-free cupcakes for the gluten-sensitive and plans on transforming her Palm Harbor store location into a completely glutenfree cupcake haven! Jess says, “I have been super blessed! To think, I started baking out of a toaster oven one pan at a time! I could not have grown my business without an amazing staff. Our Sugardarlings family is the backbone to our amazing business. I also thank my family so much for being so supportive. My girls have had to sacrifice a lot of time without mommy around and my amazing husband was always available, so I could focus and grow my business.” Jess’s growth over the past three years has allowed her to accommodate large commercial orders; in order to do this efficiently, she opened a warehouse. The warehouse is over 3,000 square feet and will help alleviate space restraints in her other stores. The warehouse is designated for baking and storage for now, but Jess hopes to host tours, field trips and tastings! Sugardar-

lings’ new warehouse is centrally located to all three stores, in order to provide the ever fresh, made-daily cupcakes to each deserving customer! At this time, Sugardarlings’ cupcakes are served at a few specialty candy shops and several medical facilities in the area including several Morton Plant Mease locations, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center of Trinity. Sugardarlings’ cupcakes can be bought in store for $2, add 25 cents extra for specialty flavors. Affordability is one of Jess’s baselines for her business. She truly wants everyone to enjoy a little taste of Sugardarlings heaven. Jess and her team make cupcakes for weddings, baby showers, birthday parties, family get-togethers, you name it and there will be cupcakes! Sugardarlings has the ability to handle large corporate orders, school functions and basically any event where people want to be treated to a sweet treat! Jess says, “There was no doubt in my mind that I would be successful be-

cause I firmly believe whatever you put your heart and soul into, you can make successful.” Lucky for us, Jess decided to put her heart and soul into the delicious and fabulous love muffins! Sugardarlings in New Port Richey can be reached at (727) 3762253 and is located at 8511 Old C.R. 54; hours are Mon. – Sat., 11:30 a.m. – 9 p.m. Sugardarlings’ East Lake store can be reached at (727)-785-2253 and is located at 4966 Ridgemoor Blvd. in Palm Harbor; hours are 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m. The newest location at 24832 S.R. 54 in Lutz is open 11:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m. Visit Sugardarlingscupcakes.com for more information. Make sure to like Sugardarlings on Facebook so you can get new flavor updates and any special offers in the store. “Hearing & Balance” Continued from page 1 School of Health Sciences. Dr. Hansen believes in staying on top of the latest technology and advances in hearing health; throughout her career she has attended numerous courses and workshops for dizziness (vertigo) and for balance and hearing disorders. Her training has awarded her with the most up-to-date knowledge, diagnostic testing and treatments for specialty disorders. Dr. Hansen moved to Florida in 1990 and completed her clinical fellowship in ear, nose and throat medicine. Soon after, she worked at Suncoast Hospital, where she spent five years diagnosing and treating hearing, dizziness and balance disorders. After working for another ten years at an ear, nose and throat practice in Tarpon Springs, Dr. Hansen celebrated the opening of her own practice, Trinity Hearing & Balance, in 2006. Dr. Hansen is Board Certified in Audiology, a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology and is a certified member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association. She serves on the Florida Academy of Audiology Board and is a member of the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce. At Trinity Hearing & Balance, you can expect

58

excellent care from Dr. Hansen, backed by professional knowledge and courtesy. Audigy Certified – Find Relief from Vertigo Trinity Hearing & Balance is proud to be an Audigy Certified practice. Audigy Certified professionals are among the Country’s most experienced hearing care professionals, possessing some of the industry’s highest credentials. It isn’t an easy certification to earn; Audigy Certified professionals such as Dr. Hansen are evaluated and their expertise is measured by commitment to patient satisfaction, continuing education and the expert application of current technologies. As an Audigy Certified clinic, Trinity Hearing & Balance is able to utilize the Epley Omniax System for the detection and treatment of vertigo. This system is the first technology that allows audiologists to differentiate between the various types of vestibular vertigo, as well as to diagnose and treat BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), the most common form of vertigo disorder. The Epley Omniax System also serves as a means to diagnose and treat dizziness associated with inner ear disorders. Diana Acosta said that she suffered with dizziness for at least three years before her ear, nose and throat doctor

For Ad Info 727-943-0551 • www.NeighborhoodNewsFL.com

referred her to Dr. Hansen. Diana says, “I had difficulty looking up, down or getting up quickly. Even leaning down to the bottom kitchen cabinets made me dizzy. Dr. Hansen said that my condition was not uncommon and that I had small calcium pebbles dislodged in an area of the inner ear causing the vertigo effect. The positioning of the Omniax System chair allows the pebbles to move to an area of the inner ear where they belong, causing the vertigo to go away. It was a completely painless treatment and after only two sessions I was cured! I was amazed!” Trinity Hearing & Balance is also able to offer ePatient, a revolutionary digital education tool that answers patients’ questions about their hearing health. Part of the Audigy Care System, ePatient is patient-friendly and designed to optimize your understanding

OCTOBER 2013

of hearing health and how hearing works and what happens when someone has hearing loss. “ePatient offers an overview of what is going to happen during the appointment as well as explaining how someone’s hearing works,” explains Dr. Hansen. “It is a treatment-focused software that enables us to quickly and effectively explain products and procedures to patients.” ePatient can actually show patients the anatomy of the ear and explain exactly what is going on with hearing in a way that is easy for patients to understand. Helping Patients Hear Clearly When diagnosing hearing loss in patients, Dr. Hansen first determines each patient’s level of hearing with a comprehensive hearing evaluation. All patients receive a thorough examination before treatment options are discussed. Dr. Hansen says that 95 percent of people with hearing loss can benefit from today’s advanced hearing aid technologies. Trinity Hearing & Balance performs testing in a certified sound booth for accurate results. Testing is performed to evaluate the two main causes of hearing loss – conductive (caused by anything that interferes with the transmission of sound from the outer to inner ear) and sensorineural (caused by damage to the

pathway that sound impulses take from the hair cells of the inner ear to the auditory nerve and the brain). Once the cause of hearing loss is determined, Dr. Hansen takes the time to make sure that patients get a great result with custom fittings for hearing aids and the comfort of a money back guarantee if the product is not right for you. Dr. Hansen truly cares about building a lasting relationship with her patients, so their complete satisfaction is always a priority. Tinnitus, a sort of ringing or buzzing within the ear, is actually a common condition that can wreak havoc on a person’s peace of mind. Dr. Hansen believes that with new, revolutionary technology such as SoundCure®, patients can find lasting relief from tinnitus. SoundCure® utilizes a simple, flexible sound therapy system called Serenade® that is developed specifically for one’s individual tinnitus. The cutting-edge Serenade® system consists of a handheld device to generate sound therapy, earphones and proprietary acoustic treatment that research has suggested may address the underlying neurological cause of tinnitus. Patients with ringing in the ear, whistling, whooshing or hissing sounds are often told they just have to live with it, but Dr. Hansen fully believes in the advances of the Serenade® system in

helping with the symptoms of tinnitus. Gold Standard Service Dr. Kelly Hansen at Trinity Hearing & Balance Center provides her patients with premier customer service; she has set a gold standard for herself and her practice, continually exceeding the expectations of patients. Robert and Joan, a local couple wrote in, “We wanted to let you know how we appreciate your care and patience. You did not rush us or mind taking the time to do things right. We have had such bad luck with other hearing aids. It seems all we did was send the hearing aids to be repaired and pay more money. At times we thought we would never find any help or be able to hear. Our home life was very frustrating as you can imagine. Now, it is unbelievable. We feel like life is worth living again. We highly recommend Dr. Hansen.” Trinity Hearing & Balance Center is located at 8605 Easthaven Ct., Suite 101, at the River Crossing Professional Center in Trinity. Hours are Mon. – Thurs., 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., and by appointment only on Friday. Trinity Hearing & Balance Center is a provider for most insurance plans (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Care Credit and no interest financing available). “Amici Pizza II” Continued from page 1 Amici Pizza II is more than a pizza delivery restaurant. They offer a multitude of delicious lunch and dinner items including some you might not expect! A popular spot to slide in for a quick bite; many locals frequent the restaurant for its all-day “Two Slices & a Can” for just $4.50. From hot wings and sandwiches to calzones stuffed with the freshest ingredients, pastas and more, you won’t go hungry at Amici Pizza II. They even make hot zeppoles! That’s Italian for doughnut, by the way, and something you don’t want to miss. “Our ‘Two Slices and a Can’ special is really popular,” Angela said. “It’s always fresh and we can add toppings. They go quick!” Whether you’re looking for a quick bite on the run, want to feed the family on a busy night, or want amazing food for your next big party – Amici Pizza II, ahem, delivers! Angela says, “We make all of our sauce homemade, and we make homemade dough every single day!”

The Friendliest Pizza in Town Amici Pizza II makes an amazing pizza pie, whether you’re a New York purist and only want their crispy, hand-tossed, brick-oven pizza covered with cheese, or you’re like my husband and want a bunch of toppings, you’ll be going back for more! How do you like your pizza pie? Serving two kinds of pizza, Amici Pizza II offers their popular original crust as well as their thick, 16” by 16” Sicilian crust pizza, which can feed your family as well as your neighbors! It’s huge! Amici Pizza II’s pizza menu starts at the traditional cheese, and branches out to include everything from a Meat Pizza, which as you can imagine is covered with pepperoni, sausage, meatball and ham, to Hawaiian Pizza, which is beautifully adorned with pineapple and ham. If you can’t decide between a Philly Cheesesteak or a pizza, then have one of their Philly Steak Pizzas and get the best of both worlds. One of their more popular pizzas is the White Pizza that is made with fresh garlic, ricotta and mozzarella. Charles from New Port Richey said, “They have an awesome white

The Sicilian is just one of many specialty pies at Amici Pizza II pizza. We will definitely try them again. Very friendly, prompt service! I highly recommend them.” More than just pizza, Amici Pizza II has an array of traditional Italian food including calzones, strombolis, rolls, hot sandwiches, cold subs and dinner entrees. Do me a favor, when you order your next pizza at Amici Pizza II, and you order the garlic knots as an appetizer and the zeppoles as a dessert (just trust me on this one),

you’ll consider ordering some of the other things on their menu too. There are just a lot of other mouth-watering things on the menu that you do not want to miss. Amici Pizza II Offers a Huge Italian Menu Amici Pizza II offers an array of Italian appetizers besides their garlic knots, including their meatballs, their chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks,

From Appetizers to Zeppoles, everything is made fresh daily & with love but they also have some real crowd pleasers on there that you might not expect at an Italian restaurant! For example, they’ve got French fries, cheese fries, and wings with a choice of sauces, onion rings, jalapeno poppers, and beef patties! Tiffany, a long time customer, said, “Great wings and pizza too hot to eat, delivered within half hour, [even] on a Friday night!” If you like a salad on the side, like we do at our house, you’ll enjoy having many options, all made with the freshest ingredients. The Antipasto Salad is my favorite, as it is a tossed salad covered with ham, salami, capicollo and provolone. They also offer a Crispy Chicken Salad, a Tomato Salad, a Tuna Salad and a Chef Salad. David Mayler said, “I have ordered from there a few times now and they always deliver. They have provided a great Italian taste that I love!” There is so much on their menu that I want you to try-from their calzones to their Meatball Parmigiana Sandwich, and their homemade Lasagna (made by Angela!) to their Eggplant Parmigiana. The food is homemade, it’s fresh and it’s piping hot when you get it. What more you could you ask for? Lynn from New Port Richey said, “I love this place, real authentic NY style, Italian family owned business from NY. I have eaten at the first Amicis in Wesley Chapel many times, and this one is owned by the daughter in the family. Try it if you love New York pizza.” I know that I already mentioned the Zeppoles, and because you’re not going to want to share, you should also know about their other desserts. Angela makes the Cannoli cream for the Cannolis herself, and they also offer Tiramisu and Toasted Almond Creme Cake. Trinity Area Neighborhood News

By-The-Slice, Take-Out, Delivery & Catering Too! Amici Pizza II is a great choice for lunch or dinner any night of the week! They are an easy and affordable way to feed your hungry family and friends! Whether you need a slice on the fly or you want to feed the masses at your family’s big holiday bash, think of Amici Pizza II. They deliver, they cater, and their friendly, customer-focused approach will help you to remind you that Amici really does mean “friends” in Italian! Speaking of friends, your new friends Angela and Mike are offering free garlic knots to the customers who mention that that they read our article about them, so don’t forget to mention the Neighborhood News and Lifestyles paper when you place your order! Amici Pizza II is located at 5328 Little Road in New Port Richey, at the River Crossing Shopping Center. It is open Mon. – Sat., 11 a.m.–10 p.m. and from 12–9 p.m. on Sun. To place an order, call (727) 372-3800, and for more information, coupons and to see their menu, visit www.amicipizza2.com or visit Amici Pizza II on Facebook.
