Happy New Year 2022! The checklist of New Year resolutions seems well within reach when we’re looking to start ahead in January. Almost everything seems possible. 12 new months to start over and leave everything that was hurting you in the past? Amazing! A six-pack by summer? Done! Read a book per month? Make it two. Finally, conquering that debt you accumulated for years? Say no more. We’re creatures of habit, and even if we don’t want to recognize it, we follow this pattern of setting goals for each new year that starts. And that’s a good thing depending on how you approach it. I bet you all have goals and resolutions for 2022. I certainly do. Except, if these past two years and the new OMICRON variant has taught us anything, is that even though we may have a solid plan and all these great expectations of what this new year will be like, well, life is extremely unpredictable. Life is hard, but it is beautiful! So what if you’re still working on 2020 goals that got postponed due to the pandemic? You’re still here! You can continue working towards achieving everything you’ve set your mind to. The secret is not giving up. But first, SLOW DOWN. Most resolutions fail because we want to do too much too fast to overcompensate for lost time. But that causes us to burn out and quit faster. Try moving at your own pace, but consistently. That’s the key.

Life rarely goes according to plan, and we cannot let ourselves get discouraged or feel hopeless because things didn’t go exactly as we were expecting them to. There are lots of twists and turns and unexpected events. But keep pushing forward and never give up! We need to act like arrows in 2022. Even though we get pulled back, it’s only to gain impulse and be released forward with more strength and better aim. Whenever you feel you’re stuck in a tough situation and moving backward, don’t sweat it; take advantage of the impulse that will propel you ahead. = Before you start your day, just think about how far you’ve gotten. Wake up with a smile and a sense of purpose. Remind yourself of all the great achievements you’ve already accomplished. Count your blessings. Figure out how you can add a sprinkle of positivity to your day or and others’. A simple sentiment can go a long way in boosting the recipient’s mood, and yours as well. Share the love with those closest to you, too. It may be a while since you told your significant other how pretty their eyes are or your kid that you noticed them practicing good manners. Despite what the phrase says, a new year won’t necessarily foster a whole new you, but it should always motivate you to be better and resolutions help with that.

I wish you nothing but the best in I have had to remind myself this new year. regularly that I am just a human being, experiencing tough human experiences, Until next time, which are outside of my control. We may have the same plans for 2022 as we had for previous years, and that’s not For JANUARY 2022 5 For Advertising Advertising Info Info 727-943-0551 727-943-0551 II info@nnlflorida.com info@nnl- bad at all.or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

Start 2022 Off Right with Jazzercise Lutz!

Building Relationships and Community One of the best benefits of group fitness classes is the support, sense of community and friendships you’ll build. fitness A study from the University of Southern California found that subjects who worked out with friends enjoyed working out more compared to working out alone.

Can dancing, punching and lifting with a group instead of solo really help you go from “dreading it” to “feeling it” when it comes to exercising? Science points to plenty of benefits of group fitness classes. Here are just a few that might convince you to break a sweat with your squad—and may keep you from hitting snooze on your morning alarm! Cut Out the Guesswork One of the biggest draws of group workout classes is that each class is led by an experienced and motivational instructor. That means you won’t have to figure out your own exercise plan or be a fitness whiz. Instead, all you do is show up and follow along. Each class is designed to be a complete workout, which includes a warm up and cool down plus explanations of each movement along the way.

JANUARY 2022

Get a Dose of Motivation If you’re one of those people who hates working out, then you’re going to need one that delivers extra motivation, which is exactly what group fitness classes do! The instructor’s positive attitude, along with the contagious energy of your classmates, will help raise your motivation.

Added Accountability Once your group fitness instructor and classmates get used to your presence, they’ll start asking questions when you miss a class or two. Dr. Dian Griesel, the co-author of TurboCharged agrees, stated in an article for NBC News that “Workouts with others improve consistency because they involve commitment. ‘No shows’ and cancellations get noticed by others and positive peer pressure can help curtail the urges to skip a workout…or quit.”

Greater Workout Variety Performing the same workout over and over again is not only boring, but will likely lead you into a fitness plateau. Your instructors don’t want to do the same workout any more than you do! They’ll throw in new moves and combinations with each class. You can also take different classes throughout the week, which will provide the added bonus of never allowing your body to adapt to a single exercise modality.

Fitness and Fun Rolled into One Upbeat music? Check. Supportive and friendly instructor? Check. Working out in a group is just more fun. Not only will you get to enjoy the natural endorphins (aka happy brain chemicals) that exercise produces, but you’ll also be surrounded by like-minded exercisers and a few new friends.

participants who performed planks with a stronger partner were able to hold their plank for 24% longer than when they planked alone. In other words, your natural competitive juices can help you work out harder in a group. You may even want to snag a spot next to the fittest person in the class for even more motivation.

Greater Results The whole point of exercising is to improve your overall mental and physical health and wellness, right? So, you’ll be excited to learn that working out with others can actually improve your fitness results. The Köhler Effect is a concept that says no one wants to be the weakest member of the group and will therefore work harder in group settings. If your workout buddies are a little faster or stronger than you, you’ll work harder to keep up! Scientific research backs up the theory. A paper in the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology found that

Tired of Hating Your Workouts? If you’re desperate to find a workout for people who hate working out, then give Jazzercise a try. We strongly believe in the power and positivity of group fitness. That’s why we are proud to offer group workout classes. Whether you are looking to improve your cardio, your strength, or all-of-theabove, you can find the right class for you along with a safe and welcoming environment. Who Doesn’t Love a Party? The Swag Party Rental Story! By Tom Bostock When the popular singing group, Rare Earth, recorded the lyrics, “I just want to celebrate another day of living,” it could have been an anthem for the times we live in. With the specter of the post Covid–19 pandemic scare finally receding in our lives, people all over the Tampa Bay area are tossing away the anonymity of their face masks and once again getting together to celebrate and relax in each other’s company. It is finally time to enjoy our return to normalcy. Let’s party! Preparing for a party gives you two options: wasting gallons of ever more expensive gasoline, visiting the local big

box stores, wandering up and down countless aisles trying to find that last item you need to make your party a success. Most times, that frustration only increases when you learn they either don’t stock the item, or it isn’t available for rental. The second and a much better, less tension filled alternative is Swag Party Rentals. When the owner, Lindsay Williams, wanted to throw a party this Summer in August, it surprised her that most everything she needed wasn’t locally available for rental. As a logical extension of her already successful Internet presence with Swag Marketing, a family run company, Swag

Party Rentals, was born to meet that need for the entire community. “We save you time and make your life easier,” Lindsay said enthusiastically. “We are local, reliable, and affordable,” she said, “firmly rooted in our community. Now that it is becoming safer and

safer to have parties,” Lindsay noted, “people are starting to have parties again.” Swag Party Rentals caters to small to midsize groups, and family gatherings, offering a variety of products, services, and entertainment options, suitable for every

age group. With the corn hole craze sweeping the country, Lindsay offers the game and a popular version of step golf as just a few of their many backyard enjoyment choices to make your party a success. There is always something for everyone. Need a dance floor, or tables and chairs for several dozen people? No problem. Swag Party Rentals can do it all. Leave it up to Swag Party Rentals, your one stop party shop. One of their more popular attractions is the photo booth. JB, Lindsay’s son, is the techie photo booth expert. He helps you capture memories to last a lifetime. The background of the customizable strips of colored photos can be designed to cater to any theme. “It is a lot

of fun,” she says. “Customers really enjoy it.” A QR code is also available. Taking a picture of it digitally captures the photograph strips on your cell phone. If you don’t have the time to decorate or set up your tables and chairs for the party, again, that isn’t a problem. Let Swag Party Rentals be your party planning professional. Shouldn’t you just be enjoying your party instead of worrying about the details? They can do it all! Lindsay noted sometimes a customer isn’t certain exactly what they want for their party. As a party planning professional, she shares her expertise with her clients, ensuring the perfect party with minimal delay. She noted if someone needs something

for their party and she doesn’t have it, if practical, she will investigate and invest in it in time for your party. There are several ways to reach Swag Party Rentals for all your party rental needs. They are as close as your telephone. Call Lindsay at 813 240 5474 today for a memorable party tomorrow. A helpful staff member is always ready to help you. As Lindsay promises on her Facebook site, “At SWAG Party Rentals, we will create an experience to remember at your celebration.” Visit their website, www. swagpartyrentals.com or their Facebook website for ideas to make your party the hit of the season. State-of-the-Art Medical Services Combined with Love of Pets Is at the Heart of CaringPaws

By Deborah Bostock-Kelley

When veterinarian Dr. David Danielson and his partner and wife, Michelle Danielson, talk about their family-owned, full-service practice, Caring Paws Animal Hospital, you could never doubt how much they love their patients. If someone overheard the conversation out of context, they could easily assume the couple is talking about healing human patients, not the four-legged variety cats, dogs, and exotic pets. Dr. D (as he is known by staff and long-time clients) and Michelle opened Caring Paws to serve as a resource to the growing southwest Pasco county community. Though the practice is new, patients will recognize the veterinarian’s familiar face. He has been practicing small and exotic animal medicine in Northwest Hillsborough County for over twentyseven years. A rare Tampa native and a graduate of the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Danielson’s background includes experience in Field Biology, Wildlife Ecology, Comparative Anatomy, and Zoology. The philosophy at Caring Paws, the impetus for the effort, is his approach to caring for pets as children. “We treat pets as our own pets, but the emphasis that I’ve embraced over the years and the focus is that to our clients and ourselves - these are children. I would give the same level of care and concern as if you’d

16

JANUARY 2022

brought me a three-yearold,” said Dr. Danielson. “Another focus of this practice is diving deep into diagnostics and working toward solving the puzzles of complex issues. I’m not one to continue to tread on the same path. If there is a case where there are three other doctors that have been dealing with this situation that hasn’t been resolved, I ask -why? Let’s look deeper and see if we can find the root cause for the problem. At this practice, I embrace the newer diagnostic tools available to uncover the causes of issues. Rather than wait for a problem to become a problem, we look for objective evaluators. I strive to be proactive in detecting diseases and problems before they become clinical. The goal is to keep these kids in quality and longevity of life with quality preventative care along with additional tools such as the use of regenerative medicine when and where appropriate.” Dr. Danielson is proof that when you answer a calling as a teenager to help animals and have the opportunity to do what you love as a career, you are one of the very few with the best job in the world. “He opened this practice because he wanted to have the freedom and opportunity to practice in his own style,” said Michelle. “He wanted to continue to provide his brand of family-oriented, quality veterinary care that he’s been practicing since 1994.”

The state-of-theart, progressive practice provides preventative and wellness care services for the area’s companion animals at all stages of life. From initial wellness visits for kittens and puppies to providing specialized care for elderly pets. Senior wellness plans include performing a comprehensive, in-depth blood panel to screen for potential diseases and cardiac-specific bloodwork and diagnostics, including cardiac ultrasound, for your elderly cat or dog. Caring Paws also has the ability to consult with board-certified veterinary professionals should the need arise. “Having the ability to offer that service is definitely a value add that we are able to provide to people here,” she said. Dentistry is also an integral part of the practice. Many pet parents are surprised to learn that dental disease can begin to present itself in dogs and cats as young as three years of age. Deep

cleaning, scaling, polishing, extractions, and full mouth dental x-rays are offered to help prolong the life and comfort of your pet. A pre-surgical exam and bloodwork are done before the pet goes under anesthesia, and in-depth monitoring happens while under anesthesia to ensure your pet’s safety during the procedure. Regenerative medicine techniques available at Caring Paws include cold laser therapy, which helps with pain management, arthritic conditions, and wound healing. “Cold Laser Therapy can make a significant difference in managing those conditions and extending quality of life for senior patients as well as to help with mobility,” said Michelle. One of the more compelling cases that Dr. Danielson worked on recently involved a kitten taken from a local animal shelter with severe trauma to the spinal cord. Since the cord was not severed, it was the hope of both the shelter

vet and Dr. Danielson that with time, care, and the proper treatment, the kitten would be able to regain the use of his legs. “Laser treatment was started immediately. After several weeks of three times a week therapy, along with a lot of love and TLC from his devoted foster mom, we are very pleased to report that he has begun to regain the use of his legs,” said Michelle. Another instance of this cold laser therapy treatment improving quality of life involves a long-time client’s 14-year-old lab/retriever mix. The owner visited

Caring Paws in its opening days, prepared to make the most difficult decision to euthanize the pup. After discussing treatment options with Dr. Danielson, the client decided to try the cold laser therapy. As a result, the dog’s quality of life improved, and they were able to enjoy several months of precious time with their beloved companion. Stem cell therapy is another progressive regenerative therapy offered at Caring Paws. This process involves harvesting a pet’s fat cells, isolating the stem cells from the fat, and injecting them into the

area of concern, triggering an anti-inflammatory response and promoting tissue regeneration. This technique was recently performed on a client’s elderly cat suffering from crippling arthritis. A month after treatment, her condition has improved significantly, and she is able to move around much better. “Additionally, we can collect stems cells during a dog’s spay or neuter surgery and arrange for them to be banked for potential use later in that animal’s life,” said Michelle. Platelet Rich Plasma is another more cost-effective type of regenerative medicine. Platelets taken from blood drawn are used to repair a wide range of chronic conditions and long-term management. Platelet Rich Plasma can speed the repair of tissue damage caused by arthritis, sprains, soft tissue injuries, or tendonitis. “We’re not giving up so quickly and actually looking for solutions to historical problems. We’re succeeding and seeing positive change in conditions I thought

unresolvable before,” said Dr. Danielson. “I consider this my calling to help. I see pets as an integral part of our lives, and they fulfill such a need for unconditional love. It’s what gives me passion, and it’s my way of helping the world by helping these children live longer in their lives; it’s supporting their owners too. People need these animals in their lives because they give them love. I do this every day. I actually deal in preserving love, and that’s what drives me. I’m proud of the relationships that we’ve built and the kids that we helped. This vision that I have of what I think this profession should be – we’re able to fulfill that – and seeing that reflected in the faces of the people we’re helping and the animals. I’m just proud to be doing such purposeful work.” CaringPaws Animal Hospital is located at 15997 Preserve Marketplace Blvd. in Odessa. When this occurs, you need someone trustworthy you know you can count on to step in and bail you out. “It’s stressful when our computers stop working. We need them for everything; from showing up to work-fromhome, grocery shopping, doctor visits, and even our kids’ schooling,” said Bob Dalles of Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc. “We make every effort to make our clients’ repair experience swift and painless. People share how they’ve been having problems with their computer. Once my team has an opportunity to analyze, diagnose, and resolve their issue, they tell us they never thought their computer could run so well.” Bob The Computer Guy & Associates, Inc. is a computer IT and cybersecurity company that provides onsite computer repairs, cybersecurity solutions, data recovery, new system setups, data transfers, secure disposal of old systems and just too much more to mention! quickly adapted by changing company policy to better keep his clients and staff safer throughout the pandemic. Many appointments can now take place with a remote session via phone and internet. Some more involved jobs might require you to bring your computer directly to Bob. He’s located in the New Port Richey/Trinity area of Pasco County. Of course, Bob still provides safe onsite service to clients whose repair needs require an onsite visit from one of Bob’s professionally certified technicians. “A misconception folks have is they think we are a computer store,” said Bob. “We’re not a retail store. We are a service company. My goal is not to sell you merchandise!” Bob emphasizes. “My technicians and analysts work with you to develop a solution tailored to your technology needs and budget. We are not going to suggest you buy a new computer unless that is the logical choice for your situation. Should you need to buy a new computer, I am not going to try to sell you one. However, if you need assistance with a new purchase, my team can make recommenda-

tions on what computer best suits your specific requirements and budget. Plus, they usually know where the best deals can be found too!” “It’s not uncommon for new clients to tell us they did not know companies like ours existed,” said Bob. “And they’re so glad they found us.” Bob became captivated with computers in the late 1970s. In 1995 he launched his own computer consulting and repair business. In 2008 he accepted a position as the instructor for Computer and Information Technology with a Florida technical college. Bob enjoys sharing his expertise with others who possess his passion for technology. His love of computers inspired him to begin writing his published column “Tech Talk,” where Bob shares decades of IT experience while also enlightening his readers how to keep their devices running well and safe.

“Tech Talk is very popular. A lot of clients tell me that they have followed the column from its first publication,” said Nikki, Client Communications Director. “Some clients even clip the columns and stick them on their refrigerators or file them away for future reference.” Cybercrimes are on the rise even more now that everyone has become increasingly dependent on technology. The criminals behind these scam e-mails, phone calls, and text messages will not hold back when it comes to exploiting any technology weaknesses that you may have overlooked. Bob and his cybersecurity team want to ensure that you do not fall prey to these ruthless cyber criminals. “In early 2019 we launched a Cybersecurity Division,” said Bob. “It has been a God-send for our clients’ peace of mind. I am thrilled to be able to provide this vital service for individuals and small businesses that heretofore has only been in the financial reach of government agencies and large corporations.” “You want to be sure you’re wearing your cybersecurity seatbelt before the crash,” Bob warned. “Your data, personal information and internet identity is like gold in the digital world. You need to properly protect it before something happens to jeopardize it. My goal is to increase your online safety awareness to lessen your chance of becoming yet another cybercrime statistic.” Cybersecurity is still a new

concept to most people. Bob encourages everyone to protect themselves properly and to seek professional guidance to make sure they are doing it correctly. “Some folks still believe they are too small or insignificant for someone to want to hack their computer,” says Bob. “Others feel that they don’t do anything online to warrant protecting themselves, then lull themselves into a false sense of security believing that doing nothing is okay.” Bob continues, “Hey, I don’t know how to make it any clearer. If you do anything of a financial nature on your computer, YOU ARE A TARGET! Do you shop online? TARGET! Do you bank online? TARGET! Pay bills online? TARGET! Ever order a pizza online with your credit card? TARGET! If you choose not to secure your computer properly, YOU BE-

COME AN EASY TARGET!!! Still some people believe they are immune to attack because they think they don’t have anything worth losing. It’s kind of like saying that since you are not a race car driver going 200 miles per hour, you don’t need to wear your seatbelt when you’re just driving your car up to the corner grocery. Don’t kid yourself. No matter how big or small, we’re all digital targets. We can all get hurt online. Please make sure you are properly protected. I hope you’ll call me today so, togeth-

North Bay Spine - story continued from page 1 available to patients is spinal decompression therapy, which can help with neck and back issues by elongating the spine to take the pressure off of compressed discs and nerves. “It’s a non -surgical way to help with neck and back injuries that are consistent with radicular symptoms down the arms and/or legs (i.e., Sciatica) and other issues where the patient is hoping to avoid injections and/or surgery. This is a more conservative approach,” Dr. Bowser explained. “We also offer cold laser therapy. Unlike surgical lasers, which are used for heating and cutting through tissue, cold laser therapy provides lower levels of light that have been FDA-approved for reducing pain while stimulating the healing process. In my practice, I’ve seen a sprained ankle that may typically take two weeks to heal reduced to five days.” At North Bay Spine and Rehab, the goal is to treat each patients’ individual needs. By offering these and many other additional treatment options in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments, Dr. Bowser and his team can offer patients customized treatment plans.

20

JANUARY 2022

Dr. Bowser became interested in the field of chiropractic after experiencing its benefits firsthand at fifteen years old after being injured playing high school football. “My first experience with chiropractic had nothing to do with the typical neck or back injury. I’d tried seeing specialists, but nothing seemed to be working, not injections or pain medicine. A chiropractor was treating my mom for headaches, so she decided to take me to one of her appointments. The chiropractor evaluated me and was able to adjust my foot. Instantly I felt relief, and the problem that I’d been dealing with for two months was fixed.” After this introduction to chiropractic medicine, Dr. Bowser decided this would be his career. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from Penn State University and his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Florida’s Palmer College of Chiropractic. After graduation, Dr. Bowser completed his postdoctoral studies in MRI interpretation and diagnostics from the Academy of Chiropractic, Post-Doctoral Division New York. He has been a member of the Florida

Chiropractic Association since 2011. When asked to give an example of going above and beyond the standard of chiropractic care, Dr. Bowser shared a unique situation that occurred with one of his patients. After seeing several specialists, a mother at the end of her

ropes was encouraged by a neighbor to visit Dr. Bowser. Previously, her twelve-year-old autistic son had seen no improvements, gained weight, and had outbursts of anger after visiting other specialists. Dr. Bowser was able to help the child that all other doctors simply

wanted to medicate. He made chiropractic adjustments, looked for neurological impingement to improve the signal to the brain, searching even deeper into his history. “I wanted to dive a little further. We did a food sensitivity blood panel. This type of test shows how a person’s body responds to a particular food over time.” In this particular case, the results were indicative of significant sensitivities that prompted an adverse immune response. “It’s getting more and more recognized that GI health corresponds to your overall health, everything in your body,” he said. “We put him on a good probiotic and continued with the manipulations, and the mother removed some of those high marker foods that we saw in the report. In about a month and a half, this boy made a complete 180. Before, he wasn’t making eye contact; now, he was making eye contact and answering me. He was starting to

lose weight. He would come in and get on the table, position perfectly. It was like he was a whole different person.” Results like this are not uncommon for Dr. Bowser. Hundreds of stellar reviews attest to patients’ successes in being treated at North Bay Spine and Rehab. “We’ve grown organically through wordof-mouth referrals. That’s a testament to the practice, the team, and the care we provide here. I pride myself on our customer service. This profession is good at getting to the root cause of issues, diving into the source of the problem, not just treating the symptoms. I love helping and educating people. I’ve always had a great (chiropractic) experience personally, and I feel like I do a good job of passing that on professionally. I’m not just trying to adjust you and send you on your way. My goal is to empower people to take control of their healthcare. I think we provide hope and education to our patients.” North Bay Spine & Rehab is located at 2431 Brunello Trace in Lutz.
