Many things happen throughout our lives that can deeply affect the way we feel about ourselves, and if life were perfect, those things would all have a positive influence on our selfesteem. But here in the real world, people are busy and often put themselves last, leading to real health problems. In the case of dental health that can mean embarrassing tooth loss. And sometimes it really catches people by surprise and seems to happen all at once. If you find yourself embarrassed to smile, avoiding old friends or public situations because you have lost teeth due to aging, gum disease or trauma,

“Hey Susan, is anything bothering you?” “You seem tired, Susan, are you feeling alright?” “Hey Susan, you seem angry, what’s wrong?” Susan was flabbergasted. She’d been hearing these questions a lot lately! Nothing was wrong, and she wasn’t tired or upset, so why were her coworkers asking her these questions? She took a long look in the mirror that evening and that’s when she really noticed the deep lines between her eyebrows and the crinkles around her eyes. How did those get there? Was it the sun? Was it squinting at the computer screen? Regardless, Susan didn’t want to look angry anymore, but what could she do about it? That next week, Susan and her friend, Laura, met for lunch. She confided to Laura about the questioning

her co-workers had given her, and complained about the lines she’d noticed in the mirror, saying, “I never even noticed them before! I feel so old; I can’t believe it. I’m too young to feel this way!” Then she playfully whined, “How come you don’t have these problems?” Laura laughed and said, “Because I’ve had a little help! I go to Advanced Laser & Skin Care Center!” Susan couldn’t believe it. “You?” Laura said, “Why not me? Millions of men and women do the same thing every year!” She added, “They’re right up there on Little Road, just north of Old CR 54 on the left!” Susan made an appointment the next day, and after a personalized consultation where she learned all about the Advanced Laser & Skin Care Center, she was relieved. She found out that it is a full medical spa that

Taso Italiano Offers “All The Best” Authentic Italian with an International Flair! By Julie Kanehl Taso Italiano is one of those rare restaurants where every inch of the place is passion-infused, prepared with care, and plated to perfection. Classy, upscale (yet affordable), Taso Italiano is a destination spot for regulars who come from as far as Clearwater, Land O’Lakes and Tampa for their expertly prepared dishes. Located at 4016 Little Road in Trinity, many of the authentic dishes have been passed down through Taso’s family, and when you taste them you know that they’ve been created with a tenderness that you just won’t find at a chain restaurant. Owner and Chef Taso Stassi is the real deal. Authentic and passionate about his restaurant, he and his staff greet you like family when you walk in the door with a sincere welcome and an eagerness to please. Customers are instantly transported by the upscale Italian décor designed to make you feel that you’re dining in a small Italian village, complete with the faded brick façades and the hanging lights that are twinkling from above. The pictures, photographs and pots and pans on the wall are Taso’s own family heirlooms, and were in fact, part of his father’s restaurant from Long Island, where only the best-of-the-best dined at the time. That restaurant, L’epicure, is where Taso took his first steps, being born into the kitchen and learned from some of the best French chefs in the country. Today, Taso takes his knowledge of the craft, his impeccable timing, the best quality ingredients and freshest foods (many of which are from local farms and fisherman), and combines

10

that with some of his own family’s recipes! And, wham, you’ve got “All the Best,” which just happens to be the catch phrase on the menu! Let me rephrase that, and explain: There are four menus, an Early Bird, a Dinner menu, a Catering menu, and a separate and altogether equal Pizza menu that includes Stromboli and Calzones! Each of the menus are jam-packed with tasty dishes that make it hard to choose, which is why so many people come back on such a regular basis. Michael, the owner of Leo’s Barber Shop nearby, comes in all the time. He says, “My favorite is the Chicken Francese and the Spinach & Artichoke Rangoon!” But, ask around, and you’ll find that everyone has a different “favorite,” from the Grandma Pie to the Rack of Lamb. “All the Best” from the Land, the Sea & the Sky! Taso humbly explains that his success is only because of the passionate and caring staff behind him, which consists of his better half Sabrina, kitchen manager Keith Komarek, sous chef Jim Ketzner, pizza chef “Patrick-The-Pizza-Guy,” front of the house manager Jen and all of their great servers. Taso has created a restaurant experience that has people just raving about the place. Add the full liquor bar and the live music on Friday and Saturday nights, and this place is really cooking. Kathy and Paul Bullara of Land O’Lakes proudly call themselves regulars. Kathy said, “We love how Taso always comes around and announces, ‘We’ve got the best food from the land, the sea and the sky!’ That’s be-

Diners love the personal attention that Taso Stassi and his amazing team provide to make sure every experience at Taso Italiano is magnificent! cause he had quail on the menu today!” She added, “You’ve got to try the Fish in Filo, it’s my favorite! One time I came and they were out of it, so now I call ahead to make sure they save me some!” The Fish in Filo is Taso’s father’s creation, and one that really goes fast. Similar to a Greek Spanakopita, but with fresh fish from the Gulf, the dish is heavenly. Paul said, “The food is phenomenal. We love the service and the attention, and Taso comes out to talk to you! It’s great!” He adds, “Oh and you’ve gotta get the white pizza!” Kathy also said, “We have brought at least ten couples to this restaurant because we like it so much, and on top of that we have Taso cater our Christmas Eve dinner for my husband’s Italian family!” You can’t quite get a better recommendation than that! When you have a calling to be a restaurant owner, like Taso does, it’s

OCTOBER 2014

not surprising that every little detail is important! It’s more than a business, it’s more than a restaurant, it’s a lifestyle for Taso and his staff! So, with that in mind, Taso spends a lot of time seeking out quality ingredients to put in his food. Taso’s passion for fishing and hunting is why he has so many local fishermen for friends, who provide him their daily catch. He visits the local fruit and veggie stands, and lives on a small farm himself. It’s this commitment to fresh, quality ingredients that helps make the food so delicious. Add his many years of experience, and the food just melts in your mouth. Taso extends his high standards to his kitchen, and having seen his kitchen on a busy Friday night, his expectations on how a restaurant should be kept is perfection. Let me tell you, it’s not every restaurant owner that knows his kitchen is spot-on at every given moment.

Five Families All the Best from the land, the sea and the sky is a common theme at Taso Italiano, and that’s because you can have your favorite foods prepared a myriad of ways, so if you like having chicken or veal prepared more than a half a dozen ways, and don’t want to travel to Tampa to get a beautiful steak, you may have found your new favorite spot! Taso says, “We only use Upper 2/3 Black Angus Chairman’s Reserve and that is why we have so many people who come here for the steak!” And don’t forget about the Rigatoni Bolognese, the Lasagna and the Italian Sausage. Recently, Taso Italiano was a vendor at The Taste of Trinity, and the line for Taso’s food wrapped around the courtyard at Seven Springs Middle School! Worth the wait, though, let me tell you, the sauce, the meatballs, their food was the talk of the event! Let Taso Do the Cooking This Holiday Season! Taso Italiano is the perfect place to have a party, whether it’s a small dinner with your family to celebrate a birthday, or a 20-topper, Taso has got you covered! Just make a reservation! If you’re in need of something

larger for a holiday party or a reception, Taso Italiano has an amazing dining room that can be converted into separate private spaces for parties of 40 up to 100 people! What’s more, Taso has partnered with the Verizon Event Center just a mile or so away to cater events there, which can accommodate up to 600 people! So, if you’re in charge of creating that special holiday event for your family or for your company, Taso Italiano is an excellent choice! Taso will personally sit down with you and help you plan your event with a private tasting. Also, if you’re looking to host an event in your home, but want to leave the cooking to Taso (just like Kathy does on Christmas Eve), you can! Additionally, if you’d like to have or host an event or meeting at Taso Italiano during the day, Taso will be happy to open the restaurant to your private party. Taso Italiano is located at 4016 Little Road in Trinity, and is open for dinner Sun. – Thurs., 4 – 9 p.m., and 4 –10 p.m. on Fri. & Sat. Save Time and Money with Grout Tech By Kim Thomas Before you spend thousands of dollars remodeling and re-tiling your bathroom or kitchen be sure to call Grout Tech for a FREE estimate on cleaning or repairing old dingy tile and grout. Grout Tech can breathe new life into your existing tile work, making everything shine like new at a fraction of the cost. Grout Tech is a family owned business serving Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco Counties. With over ten years of experience in the industry, Grout Tech specializes in cleaning and sealing tile and grout, recoloring grout, re-caulking showers and tubs, and repairing grout and broken tiles. Grout Tech will renew existing grout and tile to its original beauty by cleaning and maintaining the tile and grout lines. John Cole and his wife were ready to re-tile their entire bathroom before calling BJ at Grout Tech. “Our bathroom tile was over 40 years old it was looking grungy and very dull. We called Grout Tech and we are extremely pleased with our results!

With the help of Grout Tech, even the dirtiest and oldest of floors can be restored and renewed to their original beauty and splendor. We saved so much money by having the grout in our shower resurfaced and the tile cleaned and it looks brand new,” John shares. BJ is happy to set your appointment, come out and give you a free estimate. She stresses, “It is important for me to be respectful of our customers’ time so I will always arrive at the time we set.” In addition to always arriving in a timely manner, BJ says that they can keep their prices low because they are a family owned business and not a franchise. She explains, “What many people don’t understand is that franchises are often forced to charge more for their services because they have to maintain their franchise fees, but not with Grout Tech.” Not

only does Grout Tech keep its rates competitive, but the company will also honor any other quote as long as it is in writing. Because grout is a porous material, trying to remove stains is seemingly impossible. BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many services we offer and it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect, new look.” Using a step-by-step process, Grout Tech begins by using a cleansing product to remove all bacteria and surface dirt with special machinery. They will then apply a color seal (of your choice). Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently protected from any stains.

OCTOBER 2014

The color seal also guarantees against cracking, chipping and peeling. Additionally, they will also cosmetically fix or replace chipped or cracked tiles, making your bathroom or kitchen tile like new again. Carla Bartow, a satisfied customer, shares her experience, “When BJ came out to give us a quote, she looked at the job and I could tell immediately that she knew what she was talking about. We had our family room, kitchen and dining room re-grouted. They also re-grouted the tub, shower and base of our toilet in our bathroom. They were fantastic! Not only were they professional and reliable but they also completed the job much faster than we had anticipated.”

People really appreciate that Grout Tech saves them time and money, but it is the excellent service provided that has really helped this business grow. tile was in good condition but it was stained so we had Grout Tech come out and clean them and they turned out very well.” They were so pleased that they have already referred Grout Tech to neighbors in their community. Grout Tech can also remove and re-caulk around sinks, baseboards, tubs and showers serving to clean up old moldy areas and keep your dry wall free from water damage. From old to new in just one day! Drive for Hope, Drive for Fun & Drive the Car You Love at Ed Morse Autoplaza in Port Richey! By Julie Kanehl The Ed Morse Autoplaza located at 10133 US Highway 19 in Port Richey, just north of Gulf View Square Mall, showcases Buick, GMC and Mazda vehicles, and is part of the larger Ed Morse Automotive Group. The Ed Morse Automotive Group is a family-owned-and-operated car dealership with a focus on customer satisfaction that has set them apart for nearly 70 years. Customer focused and community oriented, The Ed Morse Buick, GMC, Mazda Autoplaza in Port Richey has changed the way people view the car-buying experience by infusing one-on-one personal attention, by offering an inventory that suits every budget, and by offering competitive prices. General Sales Manager Mike Hennagir says, “For me, it all comes back to being a family owned company. We still report to Ted Morse, the

26

son of Ed Morse. What’s more, I live here, I eat here and my children go to school here. We treat our customers like family because I know that, without a doubt, I will run into our customers when I’m out with my family. For that reason, we do it right and we treat our customers like family.” Fall is the Best Time to Buy! Fall is an incredible time to buy a car because there are some amazing deals out there! All three major brands, Buick, GMC and Mazda are having their year-end clearance event! That means they’ve received their 2015 inventory, and have to make room on the lot for more, so they definitely want to move those brand new 2014 vehicles from their lot to your garage! Mike says, “Right now, you can save $10,000 on brand new GMC Sierra Trucks, buy the economical Mazda 2, brand new, for as little as $12,999, and save $7,000 on select 2014 Buick Lacrosse and Enclave ve-

hicles. That’s a lot of money to save!” By the way, all of these have great gas mileage for even more savings! Of course, you can also save big on the 2015 models, because while other dealerships are just getting their 2015 inventory in, Ed Morse Buick, GMC, Mazda has already started to discount them! Mike adds, “We are already offering great deals on the 2015 models,

including the all new GMC Yukon.” He adds, “We have the Bay Area’s best selection of the Buick Encore, and so much more.” Whether you’re in the market for a luxury sedan like the Buick Lacrosse, a reliable family sport utility like the GMC Acadia, or want to turn heads with the hot little Mazda MX-5, the Ed Morse Autoplaza has you covered. The advantage is the Ed Morse commitment and all around appreciation for their customers. As a result, Ed Morse Autoplaza is proud to have earned the trust and respect of their local clientele. They have access to the same technological updates and parts that another service department would have, but with the Ed Morse approach. They’re affordable, too! Customer David Miller said, “I called for an available day and time for my first scheduled maintenance. I received an appointment that was two hours after my call. After dropping off my car, I was out of there in about 45 minutes. Plus, I was able to sit comfortably in the lobby using the free WiFi, Great service and friendly people!” Don’t forget Ed Morse also offers complimentary popcorn, freshly baked cookies and donuts, and fresh brewed coffee and cappuccino anytime. Drive for Hope! Ed Morse Supports the Fight Against Breast Cancer! Drive for Hope is Ed Morse Automotive Group’s way of supporting the fight against breast cancer. Last year, Ed Morse Cadillac in Tampa raised more than $10,000 for the organization My Hope Chest, right here

in Tampa. Founded by Las Vegas showgirl, Alisa Savoretti, in the fall of 2003 following a mastectomy, My Hope Chest seeks to help women get the reconstruction surgery that they need to feel mentally, emotionally, and of course physically complete. Savoretti was shocked at the cost of cancer treatments and was disappointed to see that treatments for uninsured or underinsured women did not cover the reconstruction. Savoretti had to wait nearly three years to acquire her own reconstruction, and she is spreading awareness into ACTION as to how reconstruction after cancer is different from elective plastic surgery, and important to the healing process. This year, the entire West Coast operation of the Ed Morse Automotive Group consisting of Mazda, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Fiat and preowned vehicles are committed to donating to My Hope Chest. Through their Drive for Hope campaign, they will donate to My Hope Chest with every car sold during the month of October. Whatever your automotive needs, the Ed Morse Buick, GMC, Mazda Autoplaza in Port Richey is ready to assist you. So, whether you’re looking to drive for fun, drive a car you love, or Drive for Hope, Ed Morse makes buying a car a fantastic experience. Attorney Philips dedicates his practice to helping those in need of representation and he always takes the extra step in educating his clients. When you or a loved one has been seriously injured in a car, truck, or motorcycle accident, Attorney Chuck Philips has the

With more than 20 years’ experience in Pasco and Pinellas Counties, Attorney Philips understands the ins and outs of Florida traffic laws and insurance claims. He served as a former Assistant State Attorney in Pinellas County for five years and served in Traffic and Misdemeanor Divisions as Lead Trial Attorney. With Chuck Philips, you get a wellrounded attorney who understands

both sides of the coin - from insurance defense to victim representation. Attorney Philips spends a lot of his time educating his clients and feels that more people need to understand what the changes made to the Florida No Fault Law in 2013 mean for Florida’s drivers. What You Should Know About Florida No Fault The no-fault concept was developed in the 70s and has recently undergone some changes. Florida No Fault requires each individual to selfinsure for auto accident related injuries, lost wages and medical bills. In order to cover ourselves we must purchase Personal Injury Protection (PIP) and Medical Payments (MP) as a part of our insurance package. Chuck Philips says, “We are constantly asked by clients why their insurance company has to pay for their medical expenses, when the other party was clearly at fault. The answer is simple. Florida law requires it to be done that way. Thus,

OCTOBER 2014

Attorney Chuck Philips carrying adequate PIP and MP coverage is clearly in your best interest.” The new changes to PIP coverage state that you must seek medical treatment within 14 days of your auto accident. Your choice of which doctor you see is not limited, as with an HMO, but you must inform your doctor that you are seeking medical attention for an auto accident and provide them with your PIP information. Chuck gave me a full synopsis of his personal understanding when it comes to the changes in the Florida

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

No Fault laws. He advises following these steps for your protection when it comes to your PIP coverage: • You must receive initial care within 14 days from one of these: EMT or paramedic, physician (MD or DO), dentist, chiropractor, hospital or hospital-owned clinic. • Follow-up care must be on a referral from that initial provider, referring to a physician (MD or DO), chiropractor, dentist, certain nurse practitioners, physical therapist, hospital, hospital owned clinic, or surgery center. PIP reimbursement is limited to $2,500 unless there is a finding that you have an “emergency medical condition” which is very specifically defined and must be made by a physician (MD or DO), dentist, physician’s assistant (PA) or nurse practitioner (ARNP). Follow up care will be reimbursed, up to $10,000, but only if the finding of “emergency medical condition” is made. PIP no longer pays for massage therapy or acupuncture. If you only see a chiropractor, reimbursement is limited to $2,500. If PIP benefits do not apply be-

cause you didn't get treatment within 14 days, or they apply but were exhausted, your health insurance/Medicare may be used. As for lost wage coverage, your PIP will pay you 60% of your average weekly wage and the other 40% becomes part of your damage claim against the at-fault party’s insurance company, if you decide to proceed with trial. Chuck says, “If you decide to settle, you may obtain treatment under your PIP or health insurance plan/Medicare after your case is settled. Your right to continued treatment under PIP would be limited by the amount of benefits you choose (generally $10,000), and could be terminated following an Independent Medical Examination (IME). However, barring an IME termination, you may treat under your PIP so long as you need treatment or until benefits are exhausted. That is why monitoring your expenses is important so that your benefits are not used unwisely and prematurely.” Motorcyclists are not covered under Florida No Fault, so they are excluded from the requirement of carrying PIP. Charles suggests that all motorcyclists carry PIP and Bodily In-

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

jury Liability coverage in order to protect themselves in an auto accident claim because they cannot count on the at-fault party to have Bodily Injury Liability as part of their insurance. When a motorcyclist has no Bodily Injury Coverage they are left with high medical bills that aren’t covered and can even lose their license. The Necessary Experience to Educate the Community The Law Office of Charles S. Philips is part of the Better Business Bureau and has been assisting injured victims due to the negligence or reck-

lessness of others since 2002. In order to provide maximum personalized customer service, he limits the number of cases he takes on, which allows him to commit the maximum amount of time necessary to each client’s case. The Law Office of Charles S. Philips is located at 9400 River Crossing Blvd., Suite 103 in New Port Richey. Satellite offices are located in Citrus, Hernando, Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. The 6th Annual Taste of Trinity & Business Expo Made a Huge Splash! By Julie Kanehl Literally that is! Complete with food and treat tastings, dunk tanks, games, live dance and musical performances throughout the day, Seven Springs Middle School was packed with vendors and guests of the 6th Annual Taste of Trinity & Business Expo! Held on Saturday, September 15th, the fundraiser was the school’s biggest and best yet! It all started when Seven Springs Middle School, in Trinity, wanted to find a fun and exciting fundraiser for their school, one that brought together the entire community, raised awareness for local businesses and brought the families closer together in an event everyone could enjoy. This year, the event raised more than $15,000 to be used for the enhancement of school technology! Event Coordinator Extraordinaire, Diana Jerome, who helped to launch the fundraiser six years ago, worked with the school’s PTSO to make this the best event yet. For the

first time this year, they decided to invite businesses to sponsor the event! Local businesses and companies loved the idea and were happy to help support the school. The presenting sponsor this year was the Medical Center of Trinity! Additionally, Ferman Chrysler, Jeep & Dodge of New Port Richey once again brought a small fleet of gorgeous brand new cars to the event, as well as provided the beverages throughout the day for all of the guests. The Spirit of Grace Lutheran Church provided the t-shirts for the Taste of Trinity event, and SunMed Primary Care provided the Mobile Gaming Revolution truck! Other sponsors included the Kemp and Ruge Law Group, BergHOFF International, Keep It Local, and Ierna’s Heating and Cooling. One of the coolest attractions was the Dunk Tank provided by sponsors Dance Extreme Academy and Gulfside Hospice & Pasco Palliative Care!

Right outside the school, the dunk tank was a lot of fun and a big draw. Seven Springs Middle School principals, teachers and staff members took turns being dunked on that steamy Saturday. It was a whole lot of fun for students, parents...and dare I admit: spouses of the staff! Seven Springs Middle School student Carlee Janikowski-Warden sunk Principal Middleton not once, but twice! Somebody get that girl on a softball team! Diana Jerome said, “Adding sponsors added a whole new dynamic! You’ve gotta kick it up a notch every year, and sponsorship opportunities did that!” She added, “This year we raised just over $15,000, and had ap-

proximately 750 patrons! Each year our goal is to continue to grow the event, and this year we had 71 vendors. Our target goal for next year is 100 vendors!” Food, Fun & Live Entertainment! Taste of Trinity guests could buy tickets at the door and received a wrist band and a flyer with a vendor checklist, or map, of vendors at the event!

Everyone was welcomed into the school’s cafeteria where they were greeted by vendors, live performances, presentations and endless samples! For a chance to win a raffle, people presented their vendor checklist to each table that they visited and then turned it in before they left for a chance to win prizes! The cafeteria stage was jamming throughout the day, including performances by the J.W. Mitchell High School Jazz Band, Kelly’s Dance Academy, and sponsors, Dance Extreme Academy. Other stage demonstrations included Suncoast Tang Soo Do, Ingram’s Karate and The Inspire Foundation. Not all of the performances were on stage! Always huge supporters of the event, The Pasco County Mounted Police were on hand to educate the public and to share their love of horses

with the many guests who lined up just to see them. Astro Skate & Inflatable was there with one of their inflatables in the gymnasium for the kids to jump and play in, and Kelly’s Dance Academy performed throughout the day next to their booth in the gymnasium! There was even a dance off between the dance studios! They Don’t Call it the Taste of Trinity for Nothing! While The Taste o Trinity is also officially a business expo, and open to businesses of all kinds, the food booths are always a huge success and draw the longest lines! Taso Italiano was on hand for the first time this year serving fresh, mouth-watering Italian cuisine. Everyone was raving about their food, which would explain the long line during the day!

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

One guest said, “Taso Italiano had the longest line, but it was well worth the wait! De-LISH!” Another popular booth was the Sugardarlings Cones & Cupcakes Food Truck! It was so cool! It was such a big draw, that they actually “sold” out! Other food vendors included Smoothie King, Publix, Jersey Boys Deli Subs, Massimo’s Eclectic Fine Dining, and I’ll Bring Dessert Cupcakes! Of course, all of the vendors offered something tasty for guests. There were so many wonderful local businesses on hand to support Seven Springs Middle School, that it would be impossible to mention them all! Here’s a “taste” of who was there: Stellie Bellie’s, Suncoast Gymnastics, Bishop Larkin Catholic School, BergHOFF International, Trinity

Meeting Center, Hammer Time Fitness, Paw Wash Plus, Generations Christian Church, Pasco Window & Door Plus More, and Time for Wine. Diana Jerome says, “A special thank you needs to go out to the administration of Seven Springs Middle School who opened the school to our community for this fundraising event!” Tasty, entertaining and for a good cause, it’s safe to say that The 6th Taste of Trinity & Business Expo was a huge success! If you are interested in participating in next year’s 7th Taste of Trinity & Business Expo, contact Seven Springs Middle School.

Paw Wash Plus – A Complete Pet SPAW with In-store Grooming, Mobile Grooming and Pet Sitting Services! Paw Wash Plus has continuously thrived, becoming Pasco County’s premier destination to pamper your pets. It all started in 2008 when owner Kim Crane decided to purchase an out of business self-service pet wash on Seven Springs Boulevard. With a little rebranding and a lot of hard work this unique self-service pet wash has become a complete pet spaw offering professional in-store grooming in two locations, pet sitting services, healthy food and treats. Paw Wash Plus even offers mobile grooming, which gives you the convenience of professional pet grooming services right at your doorstep. The Paw Wash Plus mobile pet stylists can provide the same great services in one of their three PawMobile grooming units, fully equipped with water tanks and generators. Paw Wash Plus offers mobile grooming seven days a week and travels throughout Pasco, Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties. If you really love to pamper your pooch, Paw Wash Plus offers the best in spa services for dogs such as their Blueberry Facial that helps remove tear stains and odors, plus pawdicures, teeth brushing, scented shampoos and holistic natural shampoos that help your dog’s skin. Spa services are available in-store and on the mobile unit. In-Home Pet Sitting Another great service Paw Wash Plus offers that is really growing in popularity is In-Home Pet Sitting. Kim Crane says, “Our customers already know that we take excellent care of their pets while in our salons or mobile vans, so naturally they trust our staff to take excellent care of their

50

‘fur kids’ while on vacation. Their pets already know us and are comfortable with our staff.” Experts agree that pets tend to experience reduced stress when cared for at home rather than a boarding kennel or traveling with their owners. Keeping a pet’s daily routine, less exposure to disease in boarding environments, personalized attention and play time, as well as maintaining consistent feeding schedules can help prevent digestive and psychological problems, resulting in a calmer, healthier animal upon your return home. Kim adds, “Additional benefits of pet sitting include the picking up of mail and newspaper, watering plants or simple tasks to increase home security. For example, opening the curtains on one visit and closing them on the next will give your home a lived-in look. Our services provide your dog, cat, birds and other pets the care they need while you’re away, right in your own home!” Paw Wash Plus Rewards Customers Paw Wash Plus offers excellent loyalty and reward programs to show their customers how much they appreciate their business. Customers receive points to be redeemed toward a FREE self-serve bath or a FREE grooming add-on. For every 100 points accumulated, you have your choice of either option. Even retail purchases including food and treats count towards loyalty points, which help customers save money. Paw Wash Plus carries a variety of highly rated dog and cat food and treats including brands such as FROMM, Pure Vita, Blue Buffalo,

Merrick, Taste of the Wild, Canidae, California Natural and Solid Gold. There also is a Rewards and Referral Program, rewarding you for referring your friends and family to the shop. You’ll have an opportunity to earn a $5 add-on discount toward grooming or 50 percent off of a self-service wash. Kim says, “It’s just a way for saying thanks!” Commitment to community has always been an important part of Paw Wash Plus. Over the years Paw Wash has organized many pet charity events including Yappy Hours, Love A Lab Day and Barktoberfest to benefit local area rescue groups. Paw Wash Plus is a member of the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce, TrinityOdessa Chamber of Commerce and participates in other non-pet-related charity events and fundraisers throughout the community.

“Coastal Jaw” Continued from page 1 In 2012, I had the privilege to write about the opening of the new, stateof-the-art home of the Pikos Implant Institute, founded by Dr. Pikos in 1991. Dr. Pikos teaches state of the art advanced bone and soft tissue grafting surgical techniques to clinicians from around the globe including all 50 states and 32 countries. Dr. Pikos is one of the leading global experts in these innovative oral and maxillofacial surgery procedures prompting dental surgeons worldwide to travel to our area to learn from him and improve their own practices. In fact, dentists at the most recent bonegrafting course at the Pikos Implant Institute represented seventeen states and seven countries. While his work at the Pikos Implant Institute is helping people exponentially through the training that brings these techniques to patients throughout the world, Dr. Pikos is still true to his calling – he wants to heal and help the individual patient and effect positive change in each of their lives. Dr. Pikos shared what he and his colleagues are now able to do for their patients with Same Day Teeth®, and

54

the results are fantastic! Patients who undergo this cutting edge technology enjoy so many life-changing benefits. Renewed self-esteem and the ability to enjoy all types of food again are making people fall in love with life again! Change Your Life With Same Day Teeth® People who have shied away from implants in the past are finding that they aren’t nearly as intimidated by the new technique now available with Same Day Teeth®. Ed White from Weeki Wachee admits that he grew a big mustache to hide his less-than-perfect smile. However, after Same Day Teeth®, he says, “I can smile now and I actually cut [my mustache] up a little higher to show off my teeth.” Prior to Same Day Teeth®, he had tried upper and lower dentures, but as friends had warned him, he found that it was impossible to chew correctly. Mr. White says that everything he’d heard about implants sounded “horrid, like torture, and I really didn’t want any part of it.” But after learning about Same Day Teeth® from Dr. Pikos, Ed reconsidered. “The new way of doing it sounded like such an easy thing that I really had to look into it.” He had implants and permanent teeth done in both jaws all at one

appointment while he was sedated, and he has never regretted his decision. There were a lot of reasons behind Ed White’s decision, but the sweetest reason was that he wanted to impress his wife. He said, “I had to do something because I was retired and was going to be out more socially. And really, I did it out of respect for my wife. For her––I want to look better.” He is enjoying looking better, and he also enjoying a favorite food! “If you don’t have bottom teeth that are anchored, you can’t eat pizza,” shared Ed. Now he is enjoying pizza, corn-on-theEd White highly recommends Dr. Pikos’ cob and anything else he Same Day Teeth® procedure wants to bite into! It’s something to smile about! Unlike dentures, Same Day Teeth® not only look and feel like your natural who enjoy eating are going to love teeth, but they perform like your nathaving them because they’re rock ural teeth. Perhaps even more enjoysolid,” said Ed, who recommends able than the fact that they are, in Same Day Teeth® at Coastal Jaw SurEd’s words, “rock-solid,” is that Same gery to anyone who is now using denDay Teeth® do not interfere with tures. “There is no comparison and your taste buds because the palate this is from a non-foodie saying this.” isn’t covered by a prosthetic piece He talked of the surgery, “I felt norholding dentures in place. “People mal and three days later, there was no

pain - it was unbelievable.” So, Same Day Teeth® work well, but how do they look, you ask? Ed shares, “I have a lot of people ask me, ‘Your teeth look so good, who is your dentist?’ And, I hate saying that they ain’t real. If you’ve got dentures in your mouth, you shouldn’t be hesitant. It’s very simple. It was the best dentist experience I’ve had, and I’ve had quite a few of them. Dr. Pikos said he had this new thing that I’d be perfect for. It’s so much different than what all the people I know that have implants had; my implants are so much better than what they had to go through. It’s so easy – nobody should be afraid to go through it. And again, Dr. Pikos was great.” Dr. Pikos Explains the Same Day Teeth® Difference Dr. Pikos is not your average dental surgeon, and offers nothing less than the absolute best to his patients. The world-renowned oral surgeon and educator is also a visionary who has always sought out other experts to facilitate a better way to treat patients. Turning to experts in science and technology has led to a “paradigm shift” in dental implants, according to Dr. Pikos, who explains the “All-on-4 concept,” pioneered by Dr. Paulo Malo of Lisbon, Portugal. Dr. Pikos says that it is the tilting of the anchors in the jawbone that makes All-on-4 so unique and strong, allowing him to place a minimal number of implants to hold a greater number of fixed teeth –

resulting in beautiful, natural-looking teeth that never need to come out! Prior to the Same Day Teeth® protocol, many patients had to go through several painful surgeries and healing processes before their dental implants were finally done. Bone grafts were often necessary, taking six to ten months to heal. It could take up to one to two years for a complete dental implant restoration, but today with the new technology, Dr. Pikos says, “Literally on the day of surgery, our patient will leave with both implants and teeth that are not removable. The first set stays in for four months – they look great and patients can function in those teeth for a year or longer. However, after 4 months a second set of teeth are made for long term use that are even more esthetic. Dr. Pikos explains that in patients who are candidates for Same Day Teeth®, “tilting implants eliminates the need for sinus and jawbone grafts, enabling patients to transition right to teeth that don’t come out in one day. I’ve done over 1,100 sinus grafts in my career, and there is still a need for them for those who have some teeth they want to keep,” explains Dr. Pikos. The Same Day Teeth® protocol is highly recommended for both patients with dentures, as well as for those who have multiple teeth in poor repair. For the latter group, teeth are extracted, implants are placed, and the fixed teeth are secured all at the same appointment. This is all done while the patient is sleeping and requires just a few

Trinity Area Neighborhood News & Lifestyles

hours for each jaw. Why choose Coastal Jaw Surgery over one of the advertised clinics that offer seemingly similar procedures? Dr. Pikos says, “Same Day Teeth® is not the same as the advertised protocols.” The teeth going in on the day of surgery are created from virtual images from a state-of-the-art lab that utilizes exacting digital technology to provide patients with the best fitting teeth possible. There is quite a bit of pre-planning involved, which actually cuts down on the time the patient has to be in the office. The size and type of implant is predetermined with computer software that allows for precise placement of both the implants and the teeth at time of surgery. This is in contrast to the conventional way where the surgeon places the implants free hand. And the teeth are made from superior materials, giving a beautiful result! “We’ve merged the traditional way with the high-tech digital imaging technology, and it makes all the difference in the final result. As a result, our patient fully benefits because it means less chair time, less expense, and fewer treatments.” He adds, “I have embraced the technology. As an educator, I have to stay on top of my game.” Dr. Pikos has trained more than 2,800 dental surgeons in grafting procedures including the digital technology that is changing dentistry. He recently taught the first course on Same Day Teeth® at the Pikos Implant Institute in September. He says, “We are the only institute teaching this approach in the entire country.”

There is a lot of science behind what Dr. Pikos does, but his heart is truly in making a difference in people’s lives. “People get very emotional when they see their immediate result on that same day,” shares Dr. Pikos. “We are normalizing their life. This is something that transcends all socioeconomic statuses and can happen to anyone. To see the immediate change in our patients’ self-image is very satisfying to me.” If you are frustrated with existing dentures, or have multiple teeth in poor repair, look no further than Coastal Jaw Surgery for immediate relief. In addition to Same Day Teeth®, Coastal Jaw Surgery’s team of Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons perform state-of-the-art dental implant procedures, Digitally Guided Bone Augmentation™, periodontal plastic surgery, wisdom teeth extractions, extractions with site preservation, pediatric and pre-orthodontic care, oral pathology and the safest, proven anesthesia options.
