Chris Ferrini, the captain of the varsity boy’s lacrosse team at J.W. Mitchell Hifh School, was awarded the Gregg Schindler Male Student Athlete for May.

As the J.W. Mitchell varsity boys lacrosse season came to an end, so did Chris Ferrini’s first season as captain. This year, Ferrini helped lead the Mustangs to their first district championship for lacrosse in school and county history. With 19 games played this season, the boys won 15, with 2 of them being districts. Their last championship matchup was on April 27. “We had a successful year; our goal was to win districts and we did it,” Ferrini said In addition to being a leader on the field, he volunteers his time with the Wolves Lacrosse Club, coaching the youth and the future of the program. The Wolves Lacrosse Club goes on for eight weeks during the summer with practices and games once a week. J.W. Mitchell High Coach Ethan

Photo by Bella Melby-Mazzei Quinlan and school administration nominated Ferrini for the Gregg Schindler Male Student Athlete of The Month. “Chris is the first player in Mitchell lacrosse history to record over 100 points in a season,” Coach Quinlan said. Ferrini finished this season with a schoolrecord of 70 goals in one season and 44 assists. This year, the

team became closer by bonding at long practices and getting together at Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park to practice their shooting. This helped them improve throughout the season and be able to come back better than before. “As a team, we have come a long way. In the beginning of the year, we lost to Steinbrenner by 2 and we just beat them by 5.

Everyone knows what their job is so we play really well now,” Ferrini said. The boys won the game against Steinbrenner by a score of 12-7. As a junior in high school, Ferrini hopes to play either football or lacrosse in college. Congratulations to Chris Ferrini, Gregg Schindler Male Student Athlete of The Month.
