Happy New Year 2022! The checklist of New Year resolutions seems well within reach when we’re looking to start ahead in January. Almost everything seems possible. 12 new months to start over and leave everything that was hurting you in the past? Amazing! A six-pack by summer? Done! Read a book per month? Make it two. Finally, conquering that debt you accumulated for years? Say no more. We’re creatures of habit, and even if we don’t want to recognize it, we follow this pattern of setting goals for each new year that starts. And that’s a good thing depending on how you approach it. I bet you all have goals and resolutions for 2022. I certainly do. Except, if these past two years and the new OMICRON variant has taught us anything, is that even though we may have a solid plan and all these great expectations of what this new year will be like, well, life is extremely unpredictable. Life is hard, but it is beautiful! So what if you’re still working on 2020 goals that got postponed due to the pandemic? You’re still here! You can continue working towards achieving everything you’ve set your mind to. The secret is not giving up. But first, SLOW DOWN. Most resolutions fail because we want to do too much too fast to overcompensate for lost time. But that causes us to burn out and quit faster. Try moving at your own pace, but consistently. That’s the key.

Life rarely goes according to plan, and we cannot let ourselves get discouraged or feel hopeless because things didn’t go exactly as we were expecting them to. There are lots of twists and turns and unexpected events. But keep pushing forward and never give up! We need to act like arrows in 2022. Even though we get pulled back, it’s only to gain impulse and be released forward with more strength and better aim. Whenever you feel you’re stuck in a tough situation and moving backward, don’t sweat it; take advantage of the impulse that will propel you ahead. = Before you start your day, just think about how far you’ve gotten. Wake up with a smile and a sense of purpose. Remind yourself of all the great achievements you’ve already accomplished. Count your blessings. Figure out how you can add a sprinkle of positivity to your day or and others’. A simple sentiment can go a long way in boosting the recipient’s mood, and yours as well. Share the love with those closest to you, too. It may be a while since you told your significant other how pretty their eyes are or your kid that you noticed them practicing good manners. Despite what the phrase says, a new year won’t necessarily foster a whole new you, but it should always motivate you to be better and resolutions help with that.

I wish you nothing but the best in I have had to remind myself this new year. regularly that I am just a human being, experiencing tough human experiences, Until next time, which are outside of my control. We may have the same plans for 2022 as we had for previous years, and that’s not For JANUARY 2022 5 For Advertising Advertising Info Info 727-943-0551 727-943-0551 II info@nnlflorida.com info@nnl- bad at all.or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

Last year, in the U.S., there were an estimated 281,550 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 49,290 new cases of in situ breast cancer among women resulting in 43,600 breast cancer deaths (1:8). Although breast cancer in men is rare, it does happen. In 2021, there were an estimated 2650 new cases among men in the U.S. resulting in 530 deaths (1:883). East Lake Woodlands Drive for a Cure supports local efforts to spread awareness about breast health, assist with breast cancer screening, provide diagnostic services and treatment, and provide short-term financial assistance

to patients undergoing cancer treatment. The event supports Love Thy Neighbor (L.Y.N.) Fund, which provides financial assistance to breast cancer patients in active treatment and recovery in Pinellas and Pasco Counties. Our event supports the Morton Plant Mease Mammography Voucher Program (MVP) which provides screening, diagnostic and treatment for uninsured or underinsured patients in Pinellas County. Since 2007 the Drive has raised over $430,000. This year we have set our sights on the $500,000 mark for the organizations we support. Participation and

sponsorship is very important to this effort, and there are many opportunities available to help us meet our goals. Come play with us on our beautiful, topquality golf courses; you’ll have a wonderful time and you will be instrumental in supporting this very worthwhile cause. SAT AND ACT IMPROVEMENT: JANUARY IS HERE!

By Dr. Wayne Adams Spring Exam Dates: SAT … March 7th, May 12th, June 4th; ACT … February 12th, April 2nd, and June 11th. The New Year is upon us, and I think everyone is looking forward to a great 2022. BRIGHT FUTURES will accept qualifying scores for exams taken as late as in June this year. The legislature continued full tuition amounts for the coming year but did cut out the additional $600 stipend. They also will continue to “cherry pick” the best scores from multiple exams as before. MOST SENIORS have completed and submitted college applications for early or regular admission. Many schools are on “rolling admissions” and will accept applications after January 1st. If you have questions about additional ways to go to your dream college if you missed the admission deadline, are waitlisted, or are denied admission, just give me a call because you have other options available. Also, you may want to do “skill strengthening” in one or two areas to bring up your total scores.

8 JANUARY 2022

MOST JUNIORS are just happy another semester is completed in moving closer to graduation. A majority of my students this time of year are preparing early for the SAT and/or ACT, targeting a Spring exam or the ACT Exam in midJuly. SOME SOPHOMORES are also starting to prepare for the exams. Usually, these are very high-performing students aiming for “Top 25” colleges, or students struggling a bit with them and wanting to get a head-start on improving. SOME PARENTS are asking if they should transfer their student(s) to a private school because they are not happy with what they are hearing from their student(s) about philosophies taught by some public high school teachers. This is a highly personal decision, of course. But if you are considering this move, then most private high schools require the SSAT or ISEE exam as part of the application process. I have very successfully helped students with both, and would be happy to talk with you about them. PLEASANT SURPRISES this last tutoring cycle included seeing excellent “jumps” in

scores” and how much my guide “Achieve And Maintain Your Peak Mental Performance Zone on the SAT and ACT including how to win over test anxiety” has helped so many students now. At our final review class, one student was concerned about taking the exam that Saturday because she could score very well (ACT composite 30) taking a timed exam in our classes or at home … but was averaging far lower on the actual exam. So we reviewed the 14 techniques, and she felt much more confident. Also, she was having difficulties with the Reading section of the ACT and scoring 25’s. So we reviewed our “Read for what you need” approach and speed reading up to 1200 words a minute, and she took another Reading test and scored a 33. I find when students learn my techniques, practice them, and received continued coaching, great results occur. RECEIVED FROM PARENTS this past tutoring cycle: “Thank you Dr. Adams for all the help you have been for our daughter. We moved back into the country last year after three years abroad, just in time for COVID lockdowns in high schools which did not help her learning. With the ACT and SAT score improvements from your class, she now has an excellent chance for admission to a top Florida school.” “We have noticed a clear change in attitude in our son from your classes about these exams and going to college. He did not want to come, … then got interested … then looked forward to your classes

because he found that he could do this, and do it well. Now he is much more positive about going to college.” If You Would Like To Talk More About Your Student … Please contact me at 727-253-0639 or send me an e mail at wwa0811@ mykolab.com. Dr. Wayne Adams is one of the leading SAT and ACT tutors in the country. His students normally improve 200+ points on the Writing, Reading, Writing and Essay, and Math, and 4 – 7 points on the ACT composite. They have been admitted to 8 of the top 10 universities in the country, 18 of the top 25, and many schools in Florida. These schools include Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Columbia, Stanford, U Chicago, Duke, U Penn, Johns Hopkins, Cornell, Notre Dame, Emory, UC Berkley, UCLA, USC, UNC (Chapel Hill), NYU, Northeastern (Boston), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Naval - Air Force - Merchant Marine Service Academies, Penn State, LSU, Auburn, UF, U Miami, FSU, USF, UCF, U Tampa, Florida Atlantic, Florida Gulf Coast, FIU, New College of Florida, Stetson, and Julliard – Manhattan New England - and Berkley Conservatories of Music. Many have received academic, athletic, or music scholarships. This year, he also tutored three juniors who scored at the national merit finalist/ semi-finalist levels on the most recent PSAT. He is a former Dean of a Graduate School of Business and Full Professor, and began college teaching at the University of Maryland in 1968. He has degrees and advanced studies at Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Columbia International, and Luther Rice.

TECH TALK With Bob The Computer Guy: “Don’t Trash Your Identity”

I am happy to report that ever since I started offering cybersecurity services to our clients, many people have become more aware of their digital security practices and are taking measures to better protect themselves online. Now remember, there is no silver bullet or guaranteed solution to being 100% secure online. However, implementing better online practices will make your digital world safer and make it harder for internet criminals to target you, exploit you, and wreak havoc in your real world. I have seen people employ great security practices to protect their business and personal data. But then they turn around and personally hand over their computer’s data to anyone for the taking. How does this happen? What do you do with your old computer when you get a new one? You would be surprised how many people

throw their old computers into the trash. If you do this, your trash becomes a potential security risk to you. First, never throw your old tech items into the trash. These components need to be disposed of properly and responsibly because they usually contain elements that are not safe for the environment. In addition, most municipalities have laws and impose fines regarding the proper/ improper disposal of these items. Second, your discarded computer has a disk drive in it (hard disk drive/solid state drive) that stores your information, including your personal data. Even if you delete your personal files, there are still methods cyber criminals can use to extract data that you thought was erased. Therefore, your old computer sitting by the curb or in a dumpster can be intercepted by multiple people, who will rummage through your trash, from the time you throw it out to the time it gets to the landfill. So let me explain the process that we use. First, we remove the disk drive mounted inside the computer that actually

14 JANUARY 2022

For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

stores all the information that was ever processed on that computer. It is usually in the form of a hard disk drive or solid-state drive. We then disassemble and dispose of the remaining components through industry channels we have in place. At this point all that is left is the old disk drive. We place that drive into an industrialstrength metal shredder that converts your old drive into a pile of rubble. This way you have a quick and easy way to dispose of your old environmentally toxic computer. Plus, you also have peace of mind knowing that the data that was on your old computer is safe and inaccessible because your computer has been dismantled and its disk drive is no longer in one piece. Call Bob

now at 727-534-4000 to discuss the secure and safe disposal of your old computer. Cyber criminals will exploit the easy, unprotected systems. Protecting your data is your responsibility, however my staff and I are always here to help you navigate through these cumbersome and often confusing tasks. If you are not sure your system is safe, please have it looked over by a professionally certified computer technician. If you’re looking for a certified professional, call us now at 727-5344000. We’ve been helping folks restore their peace of mind, and sanity, with their technology for decades. We Keep You Safer In Your Digital World!

and maintaining the tile and grout lines. Jeremy G. and his wife were ready to re-tile their entire bathroom before calling BJ at Grout Tech. “Our bathroom tile was over 40 years old it was looking grungy and very dull. We called Grout Tech and we are extremely pleased with our results! We saved so much money by having the grout in our shower resurfaced and the tile cleaned and it looks brand new.” BJ is happy to set your appointment, come out and give you a free estimate. She stresses, “It is important for me to be respectful of our customers’ time so I will

always arrive at the time we set.” In addition to always arriving in a timely manner, BJ says that they can keep their prices low because they are a family owned business and not a franchise. She explains, “What many people don’t understand is that franchises are often forced to charge more for their services because they have to maintain their franchise fees, but not with Grout Tech.” Not only does Grout Tech keep its rates competitive, but the company will also honor any other quote as long as it is in writing. Because grout is a porous material, trying to remove stains is seemingly

impossible. BJ explains, “Color sealing grout lines is one of the many services we offer and it is definitely the most effective way to create a perfect, new look.” Using a step-by-step process, Grout Tech begins by using a cleansing product to remove all bacteria and surface dirt with special machinery. They will then apply a color seal (of your choice). Once the sealer is applied the grout lines will be permanently protected from any stains. The color seal also guarantees against cracking, chipping and peeling. Additionally, they will also cosmetically fix or replace chipped or cracked tiles, making your bathroom or kitchen tile like new again. Kathy G., a satisfied customer, shares her experience, “When BJ came out to give us a quote, she looked at the job and I could tell immediately that she knew what she was talking about. We had our family room, kitchen and dining room re-grouted. They also re-grouted the tub, shower and base of our toilet in our bathroom. They were fantastic! Not only were they professional and reliable but they

For Advertising Info 727-943-0551 I info@nnlflorida.com or visit tbnewsandlifestyles.com

also completed the job much faster than we had anticipated.” Excellent Service Leads to Referrals Throughout the years, Grout Tech has grown through its many referrals from happy customers. People really appreciate that Grout Tech saves them time and money, but it is the excellent service provided that has really helped this business grow. Grout Tech’s success stories say that before calling Grout Tech, their bathrooms, guest bathroom showers and floor grout, had deteriorated over time and the tiles were dull and stained. “The tile was in good condition but it was stained so we had Grout Tech come out and clean them and they turned out very well.” They were so pleased that they have already referred Grout Tech to neighbors in their community. Grout Tech can also remove and re-caulk around sinks, baseboards, tubs and showers serving to clean up old moldy areas and keep your dry wall free from water damage. From old to new in just one day! Powerstories Theater: Real Women Have Curves After a nearly twentyfour-month intermission, Powerstories Theatre returns on February 3- 20 with the production REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES by Josefina López. This crowd-pleasing comedy gem examines the bond between five headstrong and determined Latinx women in a small sewing factory in East Los Angeles. Under the direction of Linda Edmundo, REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES features Alejandra Sepúlveda Colón as Ana, Michelle CrowderSoellner as Estela, Lillian Almodovar as Carmen, Lupita Hahn as Pancha, and Natalia Cruz De Dios as Rosali. “It is so funny. This is a comedy, first and foremost, but it also has valuable lessons,” said Linda. “There’s

female empowerment and entrepreneurship. There’s also family and women of all different ages and generations coming together, working together for the good of one common goal. They are coming together as women, as Latinas and working hard.” Linda said that an important theme of REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES is challenging society’s ideas of beauty or what a body should look like. “Women do have curves, and it’s ok to express that. We don’t have to try to fit into certain fashion and clothes. We can build the clothes around our beautiful bodies.” In celebration of this story of these five strong Latinx women and Powerstories longawaited return, the

Our focus is on your biggest hurdles. We’ve aligned ourselves with the best tax and legal professionals that allows us to offer exceptional value. One such example comes to mind: Last year we worked closely with one of our client’s CPAs where we were able to save him over $700k in capital gains tax. This in turn allowed him to have the liquidity he needed so he could keep his competitive advantage to prosper in the new year. Let’s take a look at how we’ve helped some of our other clients:

Doctor-Prenuer

Our 50 year-old doctor out of California struggles to keep most of the income he works so hard for. The more he makes the more he turns over to his silent partner – Uncle Sam. Due to his high-earnings, he has historically parted ways with 50% of his income. Our solution – Keep more of what you make and now and enjoy it later in

retirement. We created a tax-free income from age 65-100 and multiple millions of savings over his lifetime.

Agency Owner in FL

One of our favorite cases was a 56-year-old Independent Insurance Agency Owner in Florida. It’s favorable to run a business in Florida because we enjoy no state income taxes, however; due to our client’s high earnings he found himself forfeiting much of his income each year. Our solution - Create an alternative pension that will potentially provide $40,000 of tax-free income

for 35 + years after he retires.

It’s Cool to Save Money

Last but not least is our 40-year old Independent Air Condition Repairman

from Florida. Being an independent business owner with no employees our client has made a good living over the years. With high income comes high taxes so he looked to us to keep more of what the made and create a retirement starting at age 65. Our solution - With time on his side, 5 years of investing $20,000 per year will potentially produce 35 + years of tax-free income.
