Audition Now Part of the public school system, LIHSA is conveniently located at a state-of-the-art facility in Syosset where students in grades 9-12 have the opportunity to attend either a half- or fullday program. Students receive professional-level training in art, dance, drama, theatre technology, instrumental or vocal music, musical theatre,

film or playwriting each day as a supplement to their regular course of study.

Students can compose and create original works in the school’s cuttingedge Digital Media and Production Lab. Teens who exercise the half-day option spend part of the day at LIHSA and the remainder of their time in their home district completing academic

requirements.

Students who elect the full-day option complete all requirements for obtaining their Regents or Advanced Regents diploma at LIHSA. A broad spectrum of opportunities is available to students interested in studying the arts. A staff consisting of teachers and practicing professional artists prepares the students for auditions,

helps with portfolio selections and steers students toward specialized awards and honors.

More than 98 percent of the graduates go on to colleges or conservatories.

Eighty-three graduates from the class of 2012 collectively earned more than $6.5 million in scholarships and grants, and are now attending some of the most

prestigious schools in the country.

Auditions are being held now through June.

SPRING FUNDRAISER - On April 17th, the Birch Lane PTA held their yearly Spring Fundraiser. Thanks to many local business, families and local people in our community there were over 125 baskets raffled off. This fundraiser is the largest one that the school puts together and the funds are used to bring programs into the school for the children. Thanks to the volunteers who helped put this event together. So much planning and work goes into this event which turned out to be a great success.

Did you know that the Spring and the Summer are the seasons for the highest rate of suicide and suicide attempts - and not the Winter Holiday season?

This season, you can help make a difference in someone’s life by becoming a volunteer at Long Island Crisis Center.

The Crisis Center, the 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotline, is currently recruiting volunteers to participate in its upcoming Counselor Assistant Training Program. No experience is necessary and the hours are flexible (around-theclock) to accommodate the individual needs of volunteers.

The free, comprehensive orientation training program takes place over 3 three-hour sessions at the Crisis Center’s office in Bellmore. May’s training will be held on 3 successive Thursday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. on May 9th, 16th and 23rd.

June’s training will be held on 3 successive Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
