這是一本介紹我自己與我作品性格的作品集,我將二年半左右累積的平面作品,用26個主題來呈現,每個 主題有一段故事,內容是我如何解決問題,也或許是我如何回顧以往,或是如何面對失敗。 小時候的我曾經以為我會去當個獸醫,到高中以前我都還是讀生物算數學的學生,藝術則是最喜歡的科 目,沒想過會是可以讓我出社會工作的專長。大學考試考上了以印刷工業著名的科系,這是一個契機。大 二選組別時,放棄印刷工業組,而擇印前設計組,開始了我與設計的不解之緣。 大學的四年,攝影、暗房技巧、平面設計、素描、字體學、造型學、色彩學、藝術史、電腦後製、印刷適 性、甚至於視覺心理學都完完整整的學習到了,用四年的時間換得完整的平面設計技能,再加上退伍之後 工作四年的經驗,讓我成為一名足以獨當一面的設計師。 PAGE

我擅於與客戶溝通,與同事合作。聆聽與了解兩項溝通技巧,使我相信遭遇困難時總有解決辦法。 擅長以科學思維解決設計上的問題,而不是只單純追求沒有內涵的美感。 我富有想像力,並且接受任何可能性,不喜歡自我局限。 喜愛自助旅遊,體驗冒險生活,工作與休假的重要性對我來說同等重要。 熱愛閱讀、欣賞展覽、關心國際事務,對保障弱勢團體權益的活動有著非參加不可的使命感。 痛恨任何形式的暴力。 拍照,拍很多照,每年使用大約50捲底片。 不愛續集電影,每年看三次影展。 用盡全力保存所有美好事物。 期望自己更慷慨、更善良。

This is a portfolio introducing me and the personality of my works. I concluded my works during this two and half years by 26 topics. Every topic has one story expressing the way I solve problem, review my past, or face the faliure. I thought I would be a veterinarian when I was a child. Actually I was the one studied Biology and Math during my life in high school. Art, was simply my ‘favorite subject.’ I had never thought that it could be my professional specialty at work. I majored in Printing Industry in my undergraduate and this was the turning point. I chose design department instead of industry deaprtment when I was a Sophomore and it opened up an indissoluble bond between me and designing. During my four years of undergraduate, I have learned Photographic, Dark room, Graphic Design, Sketch, Typeface, Study of Shape, Study of Color, History of Fine Art, Digital Post-production, Printability and even Visual Psychology thoroughly. I spent these four years improving my skills on Graphic Design and another four years at work after I left the army. These experiences make me become a designer who can be solely responsible for my work. PAGE

I am good at communicating with my customer and coordinating with my colleague. Listening and understanding were the two skills that I believed can be used when facing difficulties. I am good at resolving design problem by scientific thoughts instead of simply seeking aesthetic perception without contents. I am full of imagination and can accept any possibility. I do not like to frame myself. I love backpacking travel. I am willing to experience adventures. Working and holidays are both equally important for me. I love reading and exhibition. I concerned about international affairs. I care about disadvantaged groups. I hate any kind of violence. I photograph. Photograph a lot. I use approximately 50 negatives a year. I don’t like sequel movies. I attend 3 film festivals per year. I do my best to reserve and treasure all of the wonderful things. And I expect myself to be more and more generous and gentle.

After I receive the illustration draft, I start to imagine my fonts, my layouts, my space configuration in order to make the illustration more energetic and valuable. Although the real problems always come out after the first revision, as long as I am sure my imagination is a correct one, the remaining is communication and revision with patience.

Although our frequent customer, the public organization, is notable of its conservative and stubborn, I do not allow myself stuck with the invisible frame. Therefore, other than a safe proposal, I would do a proposal which can make myself really satisfied. Anyways.

And then organize them- this font can be used, that blank space is suitable for the case, how about a vector illustration, perhaps more colors......Usually it can make my working time run fast and substantial.

It is something like I can test myself on my innovation to represent this serious and abstract national examination. I believe I do have some breakthrough every year. I reject to use previous experiences just for safely passing because a viewer would use their subjective points of view to critique on your defects no matter he/she understands the complete picture or not.

Something about rejection... 當我信心滿滿的以為這次提案很順利的時候,業務帶回來不好的消息我總會裝作若無其事。OK,我真的很介意,而且其實 心裡頭會反覆思考相同的問題,這次的致命傷在哪裡?下回我有沒有抵抗力?失敗的機會很難得,學習得到的往往更多。 When I am confident with one proposal, I would pretend as if nothing has happened while the salesman bring back a bad news. Yes, I really care. And I keep thing about the same question- ‘what is the fatal problem this time?’, ‘do I have the ability to resist next time?’ A failure may be blessing in disguise.

說一個環保的故事 Lets say a story of environmental protection 環保常常被拿來當作流行用語,真正應用在設計上,有時候會是個大難題。連續兩年我們公司提案新竹科學園區年報時, 都以塑造環保形象前提,科技意念為輔。兩個重要的元素如何搭配的上,是這個案子最需要被克服的事情。讓我在營造畫 面的時候,嘗試了很多方法,企圖從中找到一個適當的平衡點,然後畫面最終又要是好看的。

The most important point of designing for academic organizations is presenting the humanities accomplishments which they are identified with. Perhaps just something like one book or one book shelf. I had tried to use abstract way to express education promotion and it earned compliments from my customers.

At this time we got an advertisement case from Central Deposit Insurance Corp. We expressed the urgency of financial crisis clearly and earned appreciation from our customer. The advertisement seems like too straight but we certainly provided the manifest that our customer needed. Another image composing case is the annual archives set. The keyhole builded a sense of space on the cover which is fit with the concept of that year and completed the story.

But the difficulty is what should be measured since national examination is an abstract idea. I did not want to fill the whole picture so that I used an unproportionate earth to represent the concept of measurement and the internationalism that my customer asked.

字體的審視

字體學在學生時代也是重要的一門課,我記得當時我把所有看過的字體排列出來,一個個放大研究每個字體每個字母的曲 線、整體外觀還有排列美感。這使我養成在執行CIS工作時的第一步,就是試過至少100種以上字型,列印出來仔細反覆研 究,我相信這才能找出真正完美的字體。

Postscript 用了將近兩個月的時間,把這兩年多來的作品 整理好,也寫了一些文章,文章裡有檢視自己 的語氣。 我想這段日子我是幸運的,有一個相信我的老 闆,和一個提供很大發揮空間的工作環境,同 事之間的合作上都培養出很深厚的默契。每段 工作經驗都讓我學習到很多,非常感激任何時 期幫助我、也或許是傷害我的人,他們都一樣 重要,一樣讓我更強壯。 這兩年多來不僅只工作上的收穫,也很開心的 去了四個國家旅遊,我從每次的自助旅行中體 會各地的生活,還有不同城市小巷弄裡的淺淺 感動。一個容易被生活週遭事物吸引的人,很 難滿足現狀,總想要發掘更多東西,並且不間 斷的鍛鍊自己、試試看自己的極限在哪裡,我 不願意自己只是生活在舒適圈裡怡然自得,尤 其是在事業上,總希望能夠有更多更精彩的發 揮空間,還有接觸不同業種的客戶,與更有能 力的同事長輩學習。

從幾十張備份光碟整理出自己最滿意的作品, 然後重新檢視這段日子的收穫,我認為是一個 設計師建立自信的重要過程,每回整理作品集 我都有相同的感觸,之前我的作品集名稱為 Prime Project,說來也真不好意思,都比較外 顯的在名稱上就展現自信。這次我選擇刻意不 處理名稱這件事情,因為在整理作品的過程中 我發現,我最重要最想要呈現在這本作品集 的,不是我有多好我有多少成就,反而是我在 一次又一次的工作經驗中成長了什麼,得到了 什麼,這些才真正是我想讓你們知道的。 現在的網路很發達,搜尋我常用的暱稱:陳泥 偶,可以查到更多關於我的頁面與資訊。我私 心推薦我的Flickr,很用心經營了三年多,有 完整紀錄了自己的攝影與設計共1600多張。用 這樣的方式認識一個陌生人,現在好像相當習 以為常,我的出發點倒不僅是如此,而是把自 我紀錄當作一個目標,畢竟沒有寫日記的習 慣,而且我又是個圖像思考的人,想當然設計 作品或是攝影作品最是能夠代表我這個人了。 持續不斷的在這個私人空間裡留下每個季節的 美好,與每個工作的足跡,已經是種習慣性的 寫作方法。 關於我的26件事,好像以前網路上常常流傳的 25個私人個性的問題,利用條列式的提問讓你 更瞭解網路上不同的陌生人。我則創造了26個 故事,A to Z,讓你更瞭解我在設計這份工作 的成長與專業,還有熱忱。
