FROM THE OWNER Dear Prospective Home Buyer, My wife and I bought 5408 Long Boat Court in 1978 when it was just five years old. We bought it as an investment property, but my wife insisted that we should only buy a house that would make us happy living in it. Walking through the house in our first inspection and later discussions brought out issues that made our decision easy: --The nearby lake and swimming pool – with membership voluntary. --The privacy of having a wooded parkland both behind the house and across the street. --The 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom style with the large master bedroom/bath that extended across the front of the house, with two back bedrooms facing the parkland – one with a balcony overlooking the fence-enclosed backyard and the huge family room in the basement. --The two restricted parking spaces for us in front of the house. --The availability of nearby buses to the Pentagon and the Burke Centre train station going to downtown Washington, DC. --The friendliness of neighboring families who welcomed us and helped us learn the basics about the community and local school and shopping --The Glen Cove Community Association, which handles so many of the routine actions, such as grass cutting, snow removal and other community activities and ensures that all houses remain at high standards to ensure Glen Cove’s continued high valuations. My wife strongly believed that a home should reflect your own personal values and preferences, and so I declined proposals made by others regarding modifications to be made in the house. Changes we made reflected how we wanted the house to look. Fortunately, my wife’s tastes appealed to the varied families who rented over the four decades we have owned the property. With that as my guide, I declined proposals to make upgrades which may not be those that the buyer would want to make and allowed the buyer to make changes that reflect the family’s own style and preferences. I know my wife would have recommended this, as did her sister and others I consulted whose home judgements I respect. In short, make the house “yours”. Sincerely,
