Welcome to your new home. By way of introduction, we are the Keene’s and have lived in Oakton on Rifle Ridge Rd since 2007. I grew up in Vienna and had always wanted to live in Oakton because of the country feel while still close to the city. My wife and I, with our two boys (ages 10 and 12) have sincerely enjoyed this home. We love the neighborhood, schools, the local amenities, and have made many friends here in the neighborhood and the surrounding communities. We would like to share some of our experiences and insights with you as you consider this house as your new home.
We purchased this home from a couple who had done some amazing upgrades: the expansive gourmet kitchen with high end appliances, the master bath remodel – which includes a steam shower, and a temperature and humidity controlled wine cellar. Also added was a detached garage for two+ cars, ample room for my workshop and attic storage. It didn’t take much time and we had added the play structure out back, a zip line and had a barn style shed with a loft constructed on the property. Then we updated our home’s color palate and “relaxed” for a few years while raising our boys…Vienna soccer/baseball, Flint Hill Cub Scouts, Reston tennis to name a few of the kid’s activities. This home has been both spacious and functional, great for entertaining and playing with the kids in the yard or afternoon walks and bike rides throughout the neighborhood and adjacent neighborhoods.
Over time as the kids got older we remodeled/updated the guest/kids bath and added columns to infuse some additional architectural details to the dining room, in addition to adding a bay bump-out with French doors to let more natural light in. On the outside of the home we resided the faded aluminum with an updated insulated vinyl, replaced the shutters, gutters and downspouts, installed 22 new energy efficient Andersen windows throughout the house, added faux-wood blinds throughout, and replaced the sliding door in the basement with a French door.
The treed neighborhood is peaceful, safe, and restful with quick access to restaurants and shopping in Oakton, Vienna, Fair Lakes and Reston. The school bus stop is very convenient and is within sight at the first cross street, so we can see the kids off in the mornings and greet them when they arrive safely home in the afternoon. We enjoy the natural beauty of the wooded 5+ acre common area behind the home and the wildlife viewed from the large kitchen bay window, re-energizing in the bright sunroom and spending time outdoors on the brick patio toasting s’mores over the fire pit. Commuting is convenient with easy access to 66, 123, Fair Lakes Parkway, Reston Parkway not to mention the Vienna metro is roughly a 10 minute drive.
Reflecting on our time here, it has truly been an enriching experience and we feel like we have preserved and added to the homes charm and hope you see the care with which kept it. It is with mixed feelings we say goodbye, our children will always remember this home as the house they grew up in and we will take with us the fond memories we’ve shared, which will last a lifetime.
