Giving: Sympathy Vs Action
(Stories of Philanthropy)
What does giving mean? Does it always have to be money out of your pocket ? Or, are there any other ways you can give. We chat with two beautiful ladies who are going around helping people in need. They share their stories with Bulson from Nepalipatra’s Events.
Usha Bariya Usha Bariya is a well-known name now in Sydney. The way she is pretty, she also has a beautiful and compassionate heart. She is spotted in most of the events in Sydney, be it concerts, movie shows, literary events or cultural shows. She is always hovered by her team members from Nep-Indo Fusion Dance Company. In recent times, she and her team have been turning their dance group to a social entrepreneurship. “It really felt so good when we first organised an event to raise charity to support an ailing Nepali friend,” she talks about the event her group organised to support Manish Subedi, a Nepali student who is undergoing treatment for cancer in Sydney. She continues with a glow on her face, ”we all go through hard times in life. So,
“We all can give to the world in many different ways.” Usha
I thought we should be able to ease people’s hardship in whatever way we can. I talked with my friends. We love to dance, so we
thought we can give through what we love, with DANCE. Many other artists voluntarily performed. As a result, we were able to
collect $6000 from that very event.” You can give in many different ways, she reaffirms. ‘Dance is in my blood. It’s my passion, my prayer and my life’, she says. ‘Agile’ is the word that describes her best. She is so quick to responses and action. Whenever she is performing or she is preparing her team for a performance, she looks stressed but she comes out of the stage like a feather, happy and light. She gets more frank when t alking about her days in Nepal. She received a gold medal from King Birendra as a ‘Bal Kalakaar’. She has won many inter-school dance competitions, and even AAGAN the dance competition on Nepal Television. Usha has also played in many television serials like Subamangala, Margadarshan and Hijo Ajaka Kura. She came to Australia in 2006, started Nep-Indo Fusion Dance Company in 2011. The group organised first ever Nepali freestyle dance competition. We are always on a lookout for new talents, says Usha. She also has choreographed music videos of Shiva Pariyar and Sanjiv Singh. Every time there is a charity event around, she doesn’t hesitate a bit to take part in it. She
