The main purpose of this report is to identify number of Nepalese migrants in Australia, where they live, their gender and age distribution and how they are currently doing.

People from Nepal living in Australia want to know how many Nepalese migrants are living currently in Australia. It is a million dollar question to all of us. Some said 50,000,other said 70,000. So it is a curious to knowthe exact number of Nepalese migrants living in Australia. In addition to this it is also interesting to know other status of the Nepalese migrantsin our community.This report tells the current story of the Nepalese migrants in Australia. My previous demographic reportsabout people from Nepal was based on the census data collected in 2011 by Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), which includes naturalised citizens, permanent residents, students, and visitors from Nepal. To separate Nepalese migrants, students, and visitors I have collected various data from ABS, Department of Education, Department of Social Services, and Department of Immigration then carefully selected right data to present in this report. The main purpose of this report is to identify number of Nepalese migrants in Australia, where they live, their gender and age distribution, and how they are currently doing.This report also provides some important information to the community organisations, community based businesses, and individualsof a particular suburb or area. This informationmay be use for the local Nepalese migrant community development purpose. However, there is a limitation of the information that I collected. Therefore, please read caveats at the end of this report to understand how this data was collected and read correctly. Background: On 15 February 1960 Nepal and Australia formally established a diplomatic relationship. Australia opened its residential Embassy in Kathmandu at the level of Chargé d' Affaires in 1984, which was upgraded to the Ambassadorial level in 1986. The Government of Nepal established its embassy in Canberra in March 2007. The Embassy was opened at the level of Charge’d’ Affaires, then upgraded to the Ambassadorial level. The first residential Nepalese Ambassador to the Commonwealth of Australia presented his Letters of Credence on 26 February 2008. Australia is a multicultural nation. Since 1945, more than

The first migrants from Nepal who are currently living in Queensland are still unknown. Nevertheless, three persons, Mr Amrit Tandukar, Dr Narayan Pradhan and Ms Indra Ban OAM who landed in early 70’s are known to the people from Nepal living in Australia. Current Status of Nepalese Migrants: Department of Social Services (DSS) record shows that 31,597 people born in Nepal migrated to Australia under different migration stream (onshore and offshore). Currently, they are living in Australia as Permanent Residents or Naturalised Citizen of Australia. The highest 59% of total Nepalese migrants live in New South Wales followed by 15% in Victoria.  The highest 18,657 Nepalese migrants live in New South Wales then followed by 4,805 in Victoria.  19% of total Nepalese migrants are migrated in the year 2015.  In 2015 the migrant ratio has been increased by 17% compare to 2014.  DSS record shows that 48 Nepalese migrants entered in Australia on 25th February 2012.  The number of Nepalese migrants are increasing progressively every year therefore it is expected to increase by 20% in 2016 compare to 2015. Today, one in four of Australia’s 23 million people were born overseas, 44 per cent were born overseas or have a parent who was and four million speak a language other than English based on the ABS 2011 Census Data. The purpose of migration is to build the economy, shape society, support the labour market and reunite family. Of people migrating to Australia, 68 per cent are skilled migrants and 32 per cent are from family visa streams. This is further broken down to: Skill: 38 per cent employer sponsored, 34 per cent skilled independent, 22 per cent state, territory and regional nominated and 6 per cent business Family: 79 per cent partner, 14 per cent parent, 6 per cent child and 1 per cent other. History of Migrants from Nepal: Census record of Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) collected in 2011 shows five people born in Nepal landed in Australia in 1964 and residing in Queensland (QLD) at the time of 2011 census night. Similarly three people were landed in Victoria (VIC) in 1966, eight in New South Wales (NSW) and three in Western Australia (WA) in 1974, three in South Australia (SA) in 1979, three in Tasmania (TAS) in 1985, three in Northern Territory (NT), and five in Australian Capital Territory (ACT) in 1987.

2,215 male persons are more compare to female migrants. 56% of NT residents are male. 54% of NSW and VIC migrants are male. Male and Female proportion is not bad compare to other migrants.

 79% of the total Nepalese migrants are aged between 16 and 34.  Nearly 50% of total Nepalese migrants aged between 16 and 34 are living in NSW.  Only 340 persons are aged 55 or over.  Nepalese migrants are young and energetic. They are engaged in various professions, business and community services.  Migrants are continuously working hard to secure a good financial future, career, and extending their family.  One Local Government Area may consist of more than one suburbs and one suburb may belong to more than one LGA. Each council is an independent, statutory corporation responsible for administering its local government area.  Every LGA has its own boundary and subject to periodic restructuring by the Government on demand.  Nepalese migrants are living in 351 different Local Government Area (LGA) of Australia.  Department of Social Services record shows the highest number 2,341 Nepalese migrants live in the Rockdale Council area.  The highest 2.63% of the estimated total residents of the Strathfield Council are Nepalese migrants then followed by 2.52% of the Ashfield Council.  2.19% of estimated total residents of the Rockdale Council are Nepalese Migrants.  Most Nepalese migrants are living closer to main cities suburbs where public transport is easily accessible.  It is recommended to all Nepalese migrants to engage in the local community and political activities. However, it is strongly recommended to Nepalese migrants living in Rockdale, Ashfield, Strathfield, Hurstville and Auburn council area to connect with the local council representatives to support in the council policies and to build a relationship with local communities to support and strengthen multicultural society.

59% of the Nepalese Migrants live in NSW. 15% of the Nepalese Migrants live in VIC the followed by 9% in QLD. 78% of Nepalese Migrants are under Skilled, 14% under Family and 7% under Humanitarian migration stream. In 2012-2013, 48% of 767 Temporary Work (Skilled) (Subclass 457) employer sponsored were Cooks then followed by 18% of Chefs. In 2013-2014, there is a 4% decrease in Cooks category and increased by 7% in Accountants. There is no Medical Practitioners were sponsored after June 2012. Nine Advertising and Marketing professionals were sponsored in 2013-2014 Many Subclass 457 visa holders are Cooks and Chefs. In 2012-13, 38% of Skilled Migrants are under Cooks then followed by Accountants. There is a decrease in Software and Application Programs by 9% in 2013-14. Compare to 2011-2012 there is a sharp decrease of 9% in 2013-2014 under the ICT Business and System Analysts category. Registered Nurse has been increased from 84 in 2011-2012 to 243 in 2013-2014. From 2011-2012 there is no record of any Medical Practitioners migrated afterwards under this stream. Many of the Nepalese migrants are accountants, which is very interesting and we expect same train in the future if the migration rule is favourable to accounting degree holders.

Nepalese migrants’ Median age slightly increased from 27.16 in 2011 to 28.56 in 2014. The highest, 3,947 Nepalese migrants were arrived in Australia in 2008. Nepalese migrants are young and energetic professionals who are working for government, corporate and privately owned organisations. Many Nepalese migrants have intention to develop continuously and explore the opportunities by acquiring higher education, trainings or attending professional development courses. Southern Asia (including India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives) now provides 28.9 per cent of the migration programme (a decrease from 29.7 per cent in 2013–14); Demand for Temporary Work (Skilled) (subclass 457) visas fell 22.0 per cent, from 126,348 in 2012–13 to 98,571 in 2013–14; The top 10 migrant source countries for 2013–14 saw a slight change with the addition of Pakistan and Nepal to the top 10 in place of the Republic of Korea and Sri Lanka. Nepal saw a more modest increase of 6.3 per cent, and Nepal is 9th top source of migrants in 2014-15.

Median Income of Nepalese Migrants:

The 2010-11 Personal Income Tax and Migrants Integrated Dataset (PITMID) provides experimental estimates of the personal income of migrants and improves and expands the range of official statistics to support good government policy making, program management and service delivery. The above table clearly indicates that Nepalese migrant’s median income is highest amongst the other Asian countries. Nepalese migrant’s median income is $31,061 per annum, which is $5,727 more than Average income of above mentioned countries. The above table includes only salary paid employees and does not include business and other income.

Conclusion:

Last five years we didn’t have exact information about Nepali migrants in Australia. Therefore, we used 2011 census information to address in the formal programs even though we thought the number was too low, which was bit frustration to us. Based on the collected data there are 31,957 Permanent Residents or Natualised Australians from Nepal or Provisional visa holders, and 16,447 on Students visa. Department of Immigration issued visitor visa to 7,286 in 2014-15. Therefore, around 56,000 people from Nepal are residing in Australia at this point of time. This report is prepared based on the Department of Social Services data and Immigration data sowe can use this information to address in the formal programs and publications. The Immigration Department announced up to 190,000 permanent migration places available for 2015-16 intake. The current progressive annual increment in Nepali migrants is an indication of growing Nepali community in Australia in the future. Therefore, in 2016 we expect more than 4,000 additional permanent residents from Nepal out of current 16,447 Nepali student visa holders in Australia and off-shore applicants. Australia is a land of opportunities. Nepali migrants are young and vibrant therefore the community can expect successful entrepreneurs, professionals, managers, scientists, and academics in the days to come. Becausethe size of the Nepali migrants is increasing in Australiaevery year I strongly suggest to Nepali migrants to engage in the local community activities to enhance our relationship with the local community and government to support our second generation, to understand other culture in the society, and support the local development.

Caveats

The Settlement Reporting Facility (SRF) of Department of Social Services reports on data sourced from the Settlement Database (SDB). This data is presented in the calendar year. There are limitations in the data capture, the actual data and the reporting system. The Immigration Department’s data are presented in the financial year. Therefore it cannot be compared with the SDB data. Student Visa, Business Visa, Visitor Visa, and Temporary Visa holders are excluded in this report.

Data Capture

SDB collects data concerning settlers who have been granted a permanent (or provisional) visa. SDB data is compiled from a number of sources including Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP), other Commonwealth agencies and service providers. A subset of SDB data is copied to the SRF on the 5th day of each month. Nepalese migrants did not provide their religion when they filled in the forms. Therefore religion data is not listed in this report.

Definition of 'Migrants'

Settlers comprise persons arriving in Australia who are one of the following: Holders of a permanent resident visa or naturalised Australian Citizen from Nepal. Holders of a temporary (provisional) visa where there is a clear intention to settle. Persons otherwise eligible to settle. 

Shen Yun Heralds the Beginning of a New Era EPOCH TIMES

AN JOSE, Calif.—Few experiences in life can claim to touch the very core of one’s being. For sisters Lynn Pentz and Rene Besold, Shen Yun did just that. “It speaks to the highest in us. Here is the heart and the soul being uplifted in the art. It’s exquisite. Just a magnificent piece of art,” said Ms. Pentz, wearing a regal black coat ornately detailed with a golden Chinese dragon. Ms. Pentz, who called the performance “deeply inspiring,” finally secured the ticket as a Christmas gift from her sister Rene, after wanting to see Shen Yun for years. “Shen Yun is a beautiful transformational experience,” she said. “It’s a cross-cultural journey into not only Chinese history and spiritual tradition,
