This exciting course has been created by highly-experienced lecturers in response to early years educators and primary school teachers who recognise the need to bring more playful and fresher, developmentallyappropriate approaches to the teaching and learning of young children.
Nescot is approved by The Open University as an appropriate organisation to offer higher education programmes leading to Open University validated awards.
This course is Sector Endorsed by SEFDEY, a professional association in the Early Years sector.
What are the entry requirements?
Level 3 Early Years qualification or equivalent such as play work or health and social care. (T-Levels in Education and Childcare/Health will be considered under this category.)
And / or A-Levels in relevant subjects will also be considered.
Normally two years’ experience in an appropriate setting is required but we will consider school leavers / Level 3 progressors who may already have appropriate experience and supported by strong evidence.
Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) is available as an entry route for those with a background in the sector but lacking formal qualifications.
Acceptance onto the course is subject to interview.
In addition to the above all candidates are required to evidence suitability for the course (from either their work-based setting or where they volunteer) with a professional

This course provides individuals with a professional teaching qualification for those without a degree but having a professional or vocational competency qualification at Level 3 or above and who would like to teach students aged 14 years or older.
The PCE requires 150 hours of mandatory teaching practice and 100 hours of professional practice during the period of training. Nescot will provide teaching practice placements for full time applicants. Placement places are limited and distributed on a first-come first-served basis.

This unique course has been developed in response to employer and students’ feedback and is a Level 6 Top Up Award for those working or volunteering with children aged 0 – 19 years in either early years, education, or health settings. The course aims to produce child centred graduates with the leadership skills, knowledge, confidence, and resilience needed to ensure effective child-centred professional practice and professionalism in the workplace.
What are the entry requirements?
Students are required to hold a degree in their Applicants will need to hold one of the following qualifications:
• Foundation Degree in Early Years OR
• Healthcare Play Specialism OR
• Level 5 qualification in a related field e.g. Education; Play Work; Youth Work or Health and Social Care.
Evidence of level 2 Literacy will also be required, for example key skills or functional skills at level 2 or GCSE English language at Grade C/4 or above. If applicants do not have evidence of Literacy at level 2, it will be necessary to complete a piece of writing to demonstrate competence in written English.
Other requirements:
A current, clean DBS Check.
To be working in an appropriate setting with children aged between 0 – 19 years (either paid or voluntary) for at least 16 hours per week for the duration of the course.

Support Work in Schools & Colleges NCFE Level 2
This an introduction to the knowledge and understanding needed to work in a school or college environment. It can apply to the many varied roles that full and part-time support staff may fulfil including: administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers.
Dyslexia and Specific Learning Difficulties
This course is ideal for learners who work with individuals with SpLDs who would like to increase their understanding. On completion of this course, Learners will receive a nationally recognised CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Specific Learning Difficulties.

Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace
The Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace Course will explore the different types of mental health and the factors that contribute to mental ill health. You will also explore the signs and indicators of mental health and how you can support individuals with mental health issues and those facing mental health crises. You will find out when it is appropriate to refer an individual to other in relation to mental health issues.

This qualification is aimed at learners seeking to improve their knowledge of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), either for personal or professional reasons. Learners will consider many aspects of SEND, including the symptoms of specific conditions, legislation and guidance applicable to individuals with SEND and how such conditions affect individuals in daily life.

Understanding Behaviour that Challenges
Conflict is a normal part of life but in many work environments it can create risks that can go past the normal levels and require additional skills. Developing these skills can build the confidence to resolve difficult situations or provide positive behavioural support to improve the care that is provided.
Understanding Safeguarding & Prevent
The purpose of this qualification is to support anyone who is responsible for the safeguarding of people and for helping prevent radicalisation. It gives learners an understanding of recognising the signs of abuse, how to reduce the risk of radicalisation and the potential consequences of illegal online activity.
