This portfolio is intended to be a synthesis of the main exercises and projects that marked my academic way.

A stor y of Architecture... Architecture embodies according to me , the diversity of cultures, and reflects the power and infinite potential of human ingenuity. The ability to create a parallel between our imagination and the world in which we live. Materialize our ideas through shapes, colors, moods , movement, scenes, lights, textures, perceptions... Architecture has freed my senses! My academic background in EPAU allowed my passion to evolve through, first, the appreciation of aesthetic beauty prevalent in our environment, and the development of my creative potential through exercises pushing me constantly in my corner. Beyond aesthetics or constructive aspect, our studio work has always been an experiment consisting in understanding the shapee and its interaction with the individual, taking into considerations the various issues that architecture can include.

FIRST YEAR‌ INITIATED, TO ARCHITECTURE YOU WILL BE.

The exercises that marked the first year consisted of the student initiation to architecture basics, as the design process, the various techniques of architectural representation, and the basics for reading forms and spaces, through the acquisition of a vocabulary allowing obeservation, reading and interpretation. The program ranged from the introduction to painting, analysis of architectural projects, or project design.

VOLUMES AND SHAPES The objective of this exercise was to perceive architecture as volumes assembled and acquire some basics of graphic representation (Double Orthogonal Projection). It also sought to push the boundaries of creativity of each, through the skin of these volumes. Instead of simply covering the volumes, I opted for the materialization of the duality concept through various aspects, such as full and empty (transparency / opacity), rigidity and fluidity of forms, or even through the texture which is reflective or matte.

SECOND YEAR, GET OUT YOUR PENCILS !

The second year was intended as a reinforcement and a sequel to the knowledge acquired during the first year, with an introduction physical site data which come into play in the design of architectural project (topography, site integration, sunshine, orientation, visual breakthrough. ..) and also the dialogue between the project and its external environment. The main theme of the workshop was ÂŤhabitatÂť under various typologies, through the spatial, formal and functional analysis of the Linked Hybrid project, bySteven Holl. designing a set of individual, semi-collective and collective housing.

METAPHOR AND GARDEN This exercise was aiming to go from a metaphor (illustration which in this case is a mermaid because of the proximity of the site with the sea), and stylize it to obtain a structure (use of geometric lines and spirals of gold). This structure was used to build the different paths of the garden (main axis, secondary, tertiary), a course punctuated wtih sequences marking the halt of visitor ...

HOUSING IN SEMI-COLLECTIVE

Integrate a project of semi-collective housing in the heart of the garden designed previously, while keeping the main axis and the exterior arrangement. Handling of generator modules, in order to obtain an interesting game of volumes nested.

THIRD YEAR, WHEN DESIGN BECOMES SYNONYMOUS WITH PROGRAMMATION

Acquisition or project’s methodology, such as the main phases of the design process. The practical implementation of theoretical knlowled acquired, materializing the concepts, elaboration of quantitative and the qualitative programs... This year’s program encompassed also the reconstitution of a business hotel program, and the elaboration of specifications.

FOURTH YEAR AND LANDCAPE APPROACH T h e current image of the city of Bab El Oued is the culmination of a long process, resulting from a combination of several factors and parameters adapted to the site, its development has taken place in several autonomous entities, each with its logical training. The goals of the 4th year were mainly to establish a first approach to the urban notions and urban project.

13

Designed in collaboration with two other students

To reveal and to stage the cityscape lived daily by passersby and residents. Approach through the look and the image... • Because the urban sprawl of Bab El Oued is limited, how will it evolve according to the morphology of

the site? • How optimizing the permeability of Bab El Oued and remediateing unsafe due to the closed model of island (island Haussman) • How dedensifying Bab el Oued while respecting its architectural heritage and the expectations of its inhabitants? • How normalizing Bab el Oued in terms of sustainable development while improving its appearance and landscaping and sensory?

Problematic How to dedensify, upgrade and operate the historico-cultural heritage while providing a modern and sustainable image Bab El Oued?

12

• Reaffirm a touristic character through various courses (history, sports...) • Inject socio-cultural equipments. • Renaturalize the river bed and redevelop public spaces. • Develop eco-districts. • Restore good reading of the site by enhancing and developing existing structures. • Preserveration and enhancement of relations between citizens and the environment. Input Processing cities.

FIFTH YEAR, WHEN THE SOCIAL, THE ECONOMIC, AND THE ENVIRONMENTAL MEET

Choosing the ÂŤarchitecture and environmentÂť option, encouraged us to reflect on the interaction between architecture, the urban planning, and the environment, whether natural, social or economic. Reflection aiming to ensure better comfort in the construction and use of the buildings... Our final project study therefore aims to combine these environmental issues to a sensitive location approache.

Algiers is composed of a series of sequences, including the Hussein Dey district. The latter having a geostrategic position on the sea front, and participating in the construction of the image of the city of Algiers happens to be the subject of our study.

TRIPOLI... FACES... Through this part, we wanted to highlight our meetings in Hussein Dey, faces marching in the streets, public spaces, cafes... It traces of urban scenes, and highlights the daily practices of the people who every day see their city changes.

« Except the city center, there’s no place to go to with friends... »

« We come over here quite often..»

« Tripoli has changed a lot, but the tram still remains practical»

« All the old trees of Tripoli have disappeared..»

« ... we go out biking each week-end.»

« Before there were cinemas, cafés... Now there’s almost nothing interesting»

« Selling in haste, this is my livelihood»

« Our house is falling apart day after day»

« It’s been over 50 years since we lived, and except Tripoli, nothing has chaged..»

« ... The old beach «Sablettes», ah what a treat ! »

Problematic How can we balance between the global challenges of metropolisation and the local issues to keep the identity of the place of Hussein Dey? How can we address the issue of brownfield rappropriation, regarded through conservation, tabula rasa or reconversion?

Main projects • • • • •

The Museum of Algerian identity (bridge building). The eco-quarter in the heart of the green belt. The train station turned into Tram-train station. The conversion of the ERIAD factory into a youth hostel. The Sustainable Development Center (in front of the city hall).

THE SENSORY EXPERIENCES HOUSE

Brownfield as hyphen in Hussein Dey The area is teeming Hussein Dey instead of brownfield land to reclaim true, she has the ability, by their permissiveness to produce new forms of urbanity and allow the emergence of alternative practices. Conflicts with the existing built substances, which induce for the designer unavoidable constraints are among the most creative and fascinating missions in architecture. Especially that the reuse affects now daily and secular architectures, which led us to the filing of the old mill depot (ERIAD).

23

The plot is strategically located near the axis of Tripoli, adjacent to the train station, and not far from the tram station.

THEMATIC The senses! «The sensory experiences house» is a project with a cultural vocation, a place of self-discovery through a series of experiments and activities based on the 5 senses, through interactivity and exchange body. The program aims to involve all age groups, and is structured around three actions in the following order: Interaction (experience), Initiation (workshops), and involvement (sales and exposure).

MATERIALS • Delimitation of spaces: «North Tiles» material: foam and fabric brick • Sight experience: Litracon material: Concrete with light transmission • Lightfader: interactive tile • Touch experience: development Heatseat (thermo chromatic painting)

To answer our problematic, our choice of location was to embed a new volume in the former depot. These two volumes are distinguished by the rigid form of one and the flexible one of the other, but also by the opacity of the old and the transparency of the new. The volumes set on the southwest façade represent a call and intrigue element, intrigue that will be resolved through the discovery of the sensory boxes within the project. We thought our exhibits in the idea that they make you want to go ahead and encourage action and therefore questioning. To do this, we implemented a suspended box which is a conceptual space symbolizing the duality between the intrigue and the discovery, «The box of the 6th sense». The discovery of this box occures at the end of the route and includes a scenography with projections that trace the history and identity of Hussein Dey throughout mechanized ramp. The visitor leaves from the suspende box, which will allow him to rediscover the project from a different angle.

RESEARCH THESIS EXPOGRAPHIC LIGHTING’S RESQUIREMENTS IN MUSEUMS’ EXHIBITION S PA C E S Study case: preconceived museums and reused buildings

Abstract Â

Keywords: Museography, expographic lighting, natural and artificial lighting, building reuse. Exhibitions vary following different parameters, which are the theme, the content, the temporality, the scenography, and the space. Museums are distinguished by the possibility to host different kinds of exhibitions (permanent, temporary, itinerant), and can be presented as a space or building designed for this purpose or have been converted into museum, which will represent our case studies. The purpose of this research is the study of the quality of the museum lighting, and more specifically the expographic lighting in museums, as well as the specificity of the latter in the case of a converted building or a preconceived museum, and appreciation of this lighting in six museums in Algiers, in order to compare between the two cases and see if actually only the preconceived ones could ensure expographic quality lighting. We concluded that the conversion of a building could ultimately provide lighting that meets expographic requirements as well as a preconceived museum.
