From the President Jason Horner I hope all of you had a safe 4th of July holiday. Priscilla, the boys and I recently returned from a very memorable trip with the primary focus being the 61st Annual Porsche Parade, which was held in Jay Peak, Vermont. I could probably fill up this entire issue talking about our trip and how it started off with one of my credit cards being compromised to our Cayenne leaving us stranded at the 5000-foot marker on the Mount Washington Auto Road, just shy of the 6288-foot summit. If you want to hear the whole story ask me at one of our events. It was great seeing other (“Jason Horner - President, First Settlers Region”) members from First Settlers at Parade even if they we unable to stay for the entire week long event. If you have never attended a Parade I would highly recommend that you try to attend at least one to take in and enjoy all that there is to be offered. I am pleased to announce and congratulate those that represented First Settlers Region at parade: George and Pam Michaels for their 1st place win in the group preservation category with their 1991 928 GT in the CoNCoURS D'eleGANCe, they also won the Honorary Judge’s Choice award, Marco estrada and Kathy Thomas for taking second place in the National Website Contest, Class IV (Regions with 400-799 members), Andrew Chisholm for taking second place in the Historical and Technical Quiz for early 911/930/912 up to 1977, Dominic Horner for taking 3rd place in the 14-17 year old 5K run, and last, but not least Josie Grandfield for all her hard work and devotion to our charities was presented with an honorable mention for The Porsche Club of America Public Service Award. This award recognizes regions that have conducted the most outstanding charity or community service event or events during the year while demonstrating the highest standards in meeting the objectives and the ideals of Porsche Club of America in providing service and support to charities and the community. Again thanks, Josie and to all of you who help out and contribute to our charities making First Settlers one of the top Regions out of the 144 which make up PCA. Priscilla and I are already planning for next year’s Parade, which will be held in Spokane, Washington at the Davenport Grand Hotel. It was also announced at this year’s Parade that the 2018 Porsche Parade would be in osage Beach, Missouri. If Parade is not your thing since it has somewhat of a competitive focus the inaugural Treffen lake Tahoe, in partnership with the Sierra Nevada Region, is scheduled for September 7-11, 2016 at the Resort at Squaw Creek in olympic Valley, California. Squaw Valley hosted the 1960 Winter olympics, the first held in North America. This event is purely non-competitive and is socially oriented with the focus on camaraderie and friendship and is an excellent opportunity to show off your Porsche, see old friends, make new ones, and enjoy the good will and fellowship of other Porsche owners. The first springtime event is Treffen Hill Country set for March 30 – April 2, 2017, at the Hyatt lost Pines Resort outside of Austin, Texas. The Hill Country Region will be the partner for this groundbreaking event. Although the summer solstice has passed and our summer days are slowly getting shorter, we still have some great events to look forward to, and they will be here before you know it, mainly the Porsches in the mountains charity event in August, Classics on the Green in September to be followed by the 7th annual Air & Auto Classic in october. I hope to see you at these and our other events and again detailed event information and registration for all FSR events can be accessed via our MotorsportReg club page: www.fsrpca.motorsportreg.com. It is summer and there is plenty of time to make great memories,

The Richmond Porsche Meet Shenandoah Region’s Premier event By Greg Glassner The event highlight was racer, author, photographer and filmmaker Michael Keyser speaking at the RPM banquet. What would you have done if you had inherited a serious chunk of money when you were a young man or young woman? you might have invested it wisely, or purchased a big house, or just frittered it away on luxuries and high living. or you might have purchased a Porsche and driven it in the world’s great endurance races. That’s exactly what Michael Keyser, our 2016 RPM (Richmond Porsche Meet) banquet speaker did in 1972. Not only did he drive his Toad Hall Racing Porsche 911 2.5 S/T (which carried a Porsche “Mike Keyser: Porsche racer and author” Club of America banner across its windshield) to a 10th place finish in the Targa Florio and 13th place finishes at the le Mans 24 Hours and the Nurburgring 1,000 Kilometers, but he also finished third in the 1972 IMSA Camel GT series, winning the Mid-ohio 6 Hours, and finishing second at the Daytona 3-hour and Virginia International Raceway 250. Keyser also took his cameras and a film crew along on this adventure across two continents and produced The Speed Merchants, a critically acclaimed book and documentary film about the fast, dangerous and legendary endurance races and racers in the early 1970s. Porsches were already in Keyser’s DNA before he embarked on this remarkable season. As a lad, he learned to drive by running his father’s Porsche 356 Speedster up and down the road on the Maryland cattle farm where he grew up. As a prep-school graduation present, Michael was allowed to journey to Germany with several friends and take delivery of his father’s new Porsche 911, driving it to the family’s vacation villa in Italy. “you could say I was spoiled, so spoiled that I smelled,” Keyser said. After his father passed away in 1968, Keyser quit his job as a reporter with the Baltimore Sun and started a commercial photography business. The following year, he and his business partner fielded a Porsche 911 2.0 in the SCCA Trans Am series with veteran Bruce Jennings driving for them. After a handful of SCCA driving schools, regionals and nationals in 1970, Keyser felt ready to compete in the 1971 FIA sanctioned races at Daytona, Sebring and Watkins Glen, sharing driving chores with Jennings, second generation German driver Jurgen Barth and Richmond’s Bob Beasley. (The Glen in the early 70s was where I first saw Keyser and his Toad Hall Racing Team, an homage to the car-loving Toad of Toad Hall in Kenneth Grahame’s children’s book, The Wind in the Willows.) Keyser regaled RPM banquet attendees June

4 with the story of that memorable 1972 season. It included taking two Porsche 911s and a GMC transporter loaded with Firestone race tires and a new 2.5 liter 911 S on a madcap dash from the Porsche factory to Sicily, where he had to unravel a tangled web of red tape just to be allowed the start the grueling race of nine laps over a 44mile circuit of twisty mountain roads. After running as high as sixth, they finished a remarkable 10th after an off-course excursion and hasty repairs. Keyser’s team then dashed back to Germany for the 1000K at the Nurburgring, where they finished 13th. After a refreshing and engine change at the Porsche race shops, it was on to leMans, where Keyser, Barth and their French co-driver Sylvan Garant again finished 13th. Back in the States, Keyser and co-driver Beasley took the Porsche to a 7th place finish at the Watkins Glen Six Hour, which was part of the FIA endurance series. While doing all of this, Keyser was pulling the strings on an international film crew for “The Speed Merchants,” which is still regarded as one of the best racing documentaries ever produced. Michael continued racing Porsches through the 1970s, both in IMSA and the three American FIA races at Daytona, Sebring and The Glen, teamed up with Beasley, Barth, and Al Holbert, and competing against racing greats Peter Gregg, David Hobbs, Brian Redman, Hurley Haywood, and others. In 1976, Keyser and Holbert won the 12 Hours of Sebring for Porsche. Both drivers switched to wickedly fast DeKon Chevy Monzas for the rest of the season. Keyser won the Mid ohio and Daytona IMSA races and finished fourth in the championship. After seeing expensive factory-backed efforts move into IMSA, Keyser scaled back on his racing after 1976. He launched a home-delivery balloon business, continued writing and publishing books about racing, designed programs for major races and car shows, and created his current business, Autosports Marketing Associates, which produces and sells books, photographic prints and DVDs. Books Keyser wrote or co-wrote include Racing Demons -- Porsche and the Targa Florio, eighty-Four Hours of endurance, evolution of the Porsche 911 in Competition, 1965-2010, A French Kiss With Death -- Steve McQueen and the Making of leMans, and Behind leMans, The Film in Photographs. Michael Keyser lives in Butler, Maryland, with his wife Beth and their dogs. In addition to entertaining the RPM crowd, Keyser generously donated a number of his books for door prizes. lucky ticket holders also received RPM posters signed by Keyser.

in the Marvel Comics movie and the restaurant we later visited was Captain America’s office. once indoors it is a visual delight and thanks to great planning and construction there is no airplane noise. living in Tidewater one learns just how noisy a jet can be - none of that inside PeC-A. A calm, sublime, sophisticated interior decorated with the latest and greatest from Porsche. No slackers on the staff here - very German, crisp, precise, and appreciative that Betty and I chose to spend our day with them.

Porsche experience Center – Atlanta By Matt Frank

The outside security team had our names and directed us in to the reception desk. Name tags and lanyards were provided (color coded for drivers or observers.) our suitcases were collected and eventually appeared in the trunk of our new car. Shawn Hayes, my Driver Coach, took us for a tour of the facility. Classy offices, design studios for those inclined to order their cars with options that don’t even appear on the option lists (custom colors, special hides, stitching, whatever you want - no matter how far over-the-top.) The Porsche restoration garage had a few cars in the midst of comprehensive rebuilds. Needless to say, there were no tools laying around on grease stained floors - the place was spotless.

“The headquarters of Porsche Cars North America is an impressive building”

“Dear Phil, Thank you for asking about my recent new car delivery in Atlanta. I had assumed everyone was familiar with this opportunity until I learned that my car was the ninth to come through the Porsche experience CenterAtlanta (PeC-A) program. I received a windshield decal identifying my car as #00009- clearly Porsche expects many more to come: yet to be number 9 is pretty neat.

New cars were upstairs while the museum (aka Heritage Center and Classic Gallery) of classic Porsches is housed on the first floor. The display of both regular issue classics and racing champions with selected artifacts is often changed. The great gift shop (aka Porsche Retail Store) had all the regular Porsche Design goods along with special German items not available in the States keeping the PeCA special. We went by the coffee shop (aka Carrera Café) decorated in auto motif. An outside deck allowed observers to clearly watch the successes and not “The PCNA building includes an impressive collection of Porsches” so occasional mishaps of those drivers tackling the track below.

Making this all a reality did take a few steps. As you know, the first decision, the really big one, is new vs. preowned; and, if new, do you want it off-the-lot or built-to-order. For me, the options I wanted on my Macan S weren’t available until the 2017 model year (production actually began January 2016). There was little hope that the dealer would configure a car exactly as I wanted, so I was committed to ordering a new car- a wholly new experience for me. With that decision settled, the only remaining one was to accept delivery locally at Checkered Flag or to head to Atlanta for delivery at the PeC-A. learning that there was no extra charge for PeC-A delivery settled the deal for me. How often does Porsche offer freebies? And this one was pretty cool. once the port delivery window had been established, we finally settled on a Friday AM pickup at PeC-A. A late flight out of Norfolk on Thursday, a forgettable hotel stay that night, and a quick ride to the PeC-A Friday AM, and we were ready to go. Not wanting to face Atlanta traffic, we passed on the Porsche recommended Four Seasons and stayed a bit closer to the PeC-A. This breathtaking modern building sits at the end of the Atlanta airport runway so flying in and driving out is a breeze. It’s easy to see why it was chosen as Tony Stark’s “Avenger Headquarters”

We didn’t have time to use the Driving Simulator Center but if I go back down I would schedule an hour here. The simulators are sophisticated and look challenging. It would be the only place where I’d feel comfortable pushing a car to the real brink of seriously out-of-control. The adjacent Human Performance Center offers a conditioning training program with laboratory measured oxygen consumption and respiratory efficiency calculations. I’d love to know these numbers about myself. Back in the hall there is a wall-mounted display of Porsche history. Scale models of Porsches from the beginning to present fill two fifteenfoot walls in chronological order. Someone spent a lot of time getting this right. With the facility tour ending, we were guided into a new glassed-in reception area where paperwork was confirmed and various on-line Porsche vehicle connections were established. A nice cup of coffee and another sit-down on a leather sofa at one end of the room while at the other end was a vehicle covered with soft white silk that succeeded in enhancing the delivery anticipation a bit more. I I still hadn’t seen my car and, as you can imagine, I had spent just a bit of time planning just

“First Settlers members accepting our Region’s Public Service Honorable Mention award”

PRINTING

At this point I also reflected back on a comment Josie Grandfield made to my wife Karen as the Public Service award winning region was lauded for its extraordinary charity efforts at the 2008 Parade…she said something akin to ‘FSR should also take its charity efforts to the next level’…the rest is history thanks to Josie’s vision and tireless efforts.

Your one stop for full color and spot printing. You need it in print? We’ll get it done. We also produce a full line of business forms and company communication materials.

The emcee then highlighted just one of the 2016 Honorable Mention region’s charity efforts to show how PCA regions can positively give back to their communities. When he said he loved the name given to the one charity event he was going to explain everyone at the FSR table knew he was going to say “Turkeys in the Trunk”… and so he did! During his description of FSR’s most recent Turkeys in the Trunk event the banquet attendees broke into individual rounds of applause at the mention of 7,000 pounds of food in 50 Porsches, the over $9,000 in donations also given to the food bank during this one event and the 31,000+ Thanksgiving meals provided by this effort! When he announced First Settlers was the Honorable Mention award winner all FSR members present at this last official Parade event went forward to accept the award on behalf of all FSR members who continually make such a positive impact on our communities!

Another half-hour was spent sorting out all the presets, keys etc. Although I laughed a bit when I had been asked to review the new on-line web sites with a separate PCM & CarPlay manuals- especially when I was informed that the Porsche Team would “keep track of my progress on-line.” Turns out it was time well spent and probably worth doing again. Maybe later - I have driving to do.

“The test track is just outside”

With the vehicle introduction and handshakes completed, I headed to the track for a stint behind a Macan S very much like mine but was their car and their tires. Very nice. The track is divided into standard traction course, low traction course, wet and dry skid pads, a kick-plate wet skid section, and a dynamic area for high speed acceleration, emergency stops, and slalom. Having spent my youth in Saabs years ago followed by a rear wheel drive 5-speed Bimmer, the dynamic all-wheel drive experience that Porsche presents did take some adjustment. “Confidence inspiring” doesn’t express the giddiness that comes with being able to go faster and stay in control at speeds well beyond any original expectations. It is a great course and amazing car. Completely unpredicted by me was the ability of this car to stop. No fuss, just go from full acceleration to slam on the brakes – and just stop. I fear for the guy traveling behind me on the highway - he doesn’t have a chance if I am stopping hard. In fact, now when I am stopping I spend more time inspecting the rear view mirror than worrying about the car in front. With the driving finished, we were bushed, excited, anxious to begin the new car break-in. But not before we were escorted to the 356 Restaurant for a great meal –Weiner schnitzel for me, of course. Special place mats, window seats, drop-in visits by the PeC-A leadership team, great service, and a few gifts finished the day. What a treat- and all for free! We left for Charlotte, and easy stop on drive back to Norfolk, in a fierce nighttime rainstorm that convinced me that the leD headlights were worth every penny. you have to try these to believe them. every day since has been a fun day in my new car. If you have a chance, go to Atlanta. Almost makes me want to order anther one…”

Website Award Website Awards are also presented at the Porsche Parade. They are divided into five classes based upon the region size. First Settlers is in Class IV which encompasses regions who have between 400-799 primary members. In this class First Settlers took second place this year! So, the hard work by Marco estrada and Kathy Thomas continues to keep FSR in the top tier of websites. FSR received 1st or 2nd place every year since 2010. Congrats Marco and Kathy! Tech Quiz

What’s precious to you is precious to us.

I watched the weather the entire week before the event hoping for a nice day, but it wasn’t to be. Naturally a downpour came just as I held the Driver’s Meeting, but at least the rain tapered off quickly as the participants headed out for the Middle Peninsula. The approximately 85-mile route took the attendees along country roads in york, Gloucester, King and Queen, King William and New Kent Counties, and into the lightfoot area of Williamsburg. The 31 (and 5 tie-breaker) questions were designed to challenge folks, but “no clues sections” were built in to give folks a little relief from searching for answers to the questions and to allow the driver’s to have a little “fun”. The winning scores were in the 75% range so it seems thequestions found the right balance between too easy and just plain hard. FSR’s resident “fun run” guru had a positive review of the route, so I felt pretty good.

Parade 2016 Gimmick Rally and Awards

“Porsches in the Mountains”

By Dave McFaddin

First Settlers Region Annual Charity Event August 26-28th, 2016

Porsche Parade Gimmick Rallies are designed to be less stressful than Time/Speed/Distance Rallies and are meant to allow contestants the opportunity to enjoy the local roads, scenery and culture all while driving their beloved Porsches. However, just because you have done a Gimmick Rally previously doesn’t mean you know what to expect because the rules and objectives vary every year based upon what the varying parade locations have to offer as unique points of interest. In 2016 the Jay Peak, Vermont, area offered up multiple covered bridges dating back to the late 1800s so the planners made them the rally theme and came up with a unique rally format. Instead of the planners following the common process of providing route directions, with the contestants having to find the answers to clues along the way, the tables were turned and the contestants were given pictures/descriptions/coordinates of all 15 covered bridges to be found (10 mandatory and 5 optional), as well a two other significant landmarks (1 mandatory and 1 optional), but the route was up to the contestants to plan and execute. The overall goal was to find all of the mandatory bridges…take a picture of each for proof to include at least one creative selfie as a tie-breaker (yes they verified every picture at the scoring table)…with the contestant covering the shortest distance being the winner (yes they logged your mileage at start and finish).

Please join us in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley for our annual charity event! •A Welcome Party at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel on Friday night •A Fun Run through the mountains on Saturday morning •lunch at the historic Highland Inn in Monterey, VA •Another Fun Run on Saturday afternoon heading back to Staunton, VA •A buffet dinner at the Stonewall Jackson Hotel on Saturday night •Silent Auction to raise money for charity •A “Poker Walk” around Staunton to learn about the local history •Sunday morning continental breakfast in the Hospitality Suite •Fun Run to the King Family Winery in Crozet, VA with lunch and wine tasting Details and registration on www.motorsportreg.com Search for First Settlers Region

What sounds so tough about this and why would you drive extra distance to visit the optional sites if low mileage was the goal? Well, in addition to being handed a low definition black and white photocopy of a map with very small print (the bridge locations were at least highlighted), the roads depicted included dirt roads but there wasn’t a good way to tell if the roads you chose were paved or not. It turns out the optional covered bridges were located on dirt roads and successfully finding them would subtract a small amount of mileage from your total as a reward. So, before launching out on the quest the contestants had to decide if they wanted to only attempt finding the mandatory bridges or drive the extra miles on dirt to get the optional locations in hopes of lowering their scores. I don’t know if anyone decided NoT to drive on the dirt (maybe the 918) because the Jay Peak lodging and parking was on dirt anyway (the car wash station set up at the Jay Peak Fire Department stayed busy). I was told some contestants used apps on their phones/navigation devices to input the coordinates and let the app determine the shortest route. However, seeing this as a challenge to my map-reading and mission planning skills I decided to eyeball it just for the challenge.

“The Historic Stonewall Jackson Hotel in Staunton, VA will be the site of our annual charity event”

“The Fun Run will take us to the Highland Inn in Monterey, VA”

So, how did the First Settlers contestants fare? Well, except for either a missed turn or a fateful decision to skip an optional site in the name of saving time, I’d say we all did pretty well. of the scores logged on the final results sheet we were all in the top 25% of finishers and within 1.3 miles of each other for total distance. What about the missed turns and fateful decisions? While you can “what-if” it all day long and not change the results, suffice it to say we all would have received a trophy if only… really! Public Service Award First Settlers Region was recognized again this year for its Public Service. During the Parade’s Victory Banquet, when the Public Service Awards were presented, the emcee started the description this year’s award winners in manner causing all FSR members to look at each other with a knowing smile. He said this year PCA was compelled to present a single Public Service Honorable Mention Award in addition to the awards for first through third place. He went on to say the Honorable Mention region has a well-established history of being recognized at the top of PCA for Public Service…it was at this point the table of FSR (Continued on page 12)

Members Memories - PORSCHE PARADE There’s lots going on and First Settlers Region members get around! We appreciate and welcome all of our members to submit their Porsche experience for inclusion in Horizontally opposed.

First Timers Experience PCA Parade By Jeff Coston on our drive up to Jay Peak, we hit a few scenic spots along the way. We stopped at the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon in Wellsboro, PA. Wellsboro is a very quaint town and the Mountain laurel Festival was also in full swing when we arrived. From Wellsboro we went through Watkins Glen, Ny and stopped at the state park and hiked up through the Glen. We didn’t have time to go to the famous Watkins Glen race track but it would have been fun. We also stopped at the Ausable Chasm which is located along the western shore of lake Champlain. When we arrived at Jay Peak on Sunday, we checked in at the PCA reception center. The check in process went very smoothly. During this process we received the tickets for all of the events that we had signed up for and we meet Dave and Karen McFaddin where they were working as volunteers. The condo accommodations were nice but we noted northern Vermont can get very warm in the summertime. There are many activities at the PCA Parade and it is impossible to do each event. We signed up for only one or two events a day which worked out well. Sunday evening we attended the Welcome Party which was held slope slide at the ski resort. The First Settler’s club was able to sit together at two different tables which allowed us to get acquainted with some of the other members that we don’t see often. The food was excellent and the company was even better.

Anniversary of the Transaxle,” marking the 40th anniversary of the debut of the 924 and subsequent models. Those in competition represented three classes in the Preparation Group and one in the Preservation Group. After a walk-through, I assessed that there were 5 other cars in my class and ours was the only 928. After a long day waiting for the judges and for the results to be posted… success! We placed first in class and would receive the award at the Concours Banquet the next evening. So, off we went to the wine tasting and follow-on Vermont-themed dinner.

As usual, Parade 2016 offered many social events and tours of the local area. Unlike previous Parades, most of the driving tours were selfguided. This offered the opportunity to tailor them as we saw fit, depart and return as early or as late as we pleased and go with whomever we wanted, or go by ourselves. We took advantage of this and had a great tour into Canada with a group of our FSR friends and a nice dinner at a local restaurant the next evening. Hopefully, this will be a Parade standard.

We had a great week meeting new people that share the Porsche passion and spending time with fellow members of First Settler’s.

The 61st Parade at Jay Peak was number four for Pam and me. our activity schedule during the two previous Parades, Savannah in 2011 and French lick last year, were chock full of events and didn’t leave much time for relaxation. After all, these are supposed to be vacations. With this in mind, Pam and I signed up for fewer competitive events that required an early wake-up or all day participation. Also, upon discovering that towing my 928 to the event wouldn’t garner me demerits in the Concours, we gained a free day on Sunday to do whatever we wanted, which is normally Concours prep day, spent cleaning all the road grime from the drive. It made the drive north pulling 5000 pounds a bit more work, but we made it a two-day trip and caravanned with our condo roomies, Paul and Val oberdorfer, to make it a more pleasurable drive.

Monday we attended the Concourse and wished George and Pam Michaels good luck on their entry. It was really neat to see all of the different cars from around the US and Canada. That evening we went on a Dinner Cruise with two other couples from the club. It was interesting to pass by the border of the US and Canada and to see the marker. The weather and the meal were great. We sat out on the deck of the boat as we ate steak and lobster. Tuesday we attended a fun run to Canada with other members of First Settler’s and stopped by a few Canadian wineries. on Wednesday, we drove with the McFaddin’s to Mt Washington, NH. We didn’t drive up the mountain but enjoyed the great scenery and the historic Mt Washington Hotel. We came along a cow in the middle of the road on the trip back to Jay Peak. She was very interested in our cars and wanted to go along with us. We named her Bessie! The club also attended the Concourse Dinner together and met on Wednesday evening for dinner at one of the local restaurants, the Belfry.

The next day, we met our FSR friends for the driving tour to Canada. After a couple of wineries, it was already 2PM and we decided to skip lunch and head back across the border. on our way back, I received a call from the Concours Co-chair that they’d like my car displayed at the Concours Banquet that evening, but I had to get it there quickly, as they were completing banquet setup. He then explained why… the 928 had been chosen to receive the Honorary Judges Award. I wasn’t sure what that was, but an extra award and the 928 next to the stage at the banquet weren’t going to bring any complaints from me.

All other events and fun aside, my main focus was the Concours. My first foray into the PCA Concours world was in Savannah, where my ’91 928GT placed second in a 928 class of only three cars in the Preservation Group, the focus of which is originality, condition and reasonable use (no Q-tips and white gloves, fortunately). In French lick, I placed second again, but in a new combined class of 11 cars, which included the 924, 944, 968 and 928. I learned a lot at this event, mostly from the lead judge in my class, and made adjustments to the car for a better result next time.

I later learned that this award is presented each year by the Honorary Judges at the event. This year, they were Klaus zellmer, the new Ceo of PCNA, Andrew Pine, PCNA Vice President for Customer Relations and Dieter landenberger, Archivist for the Porsche Museum. They choose from the whole field of cars, not any particular class or group. I suspect their choice was influenced by the 40th Anniversary of the Transaxle, but no matter, it was quite an honor and noteworthy for the 928 and its community of owners and fans. So, all the effort paid off. Next goal… a Preservation Group win in 2018 in Missouri!

obviously, a critical piece of the concours is the competition, and you don’t really know what that is until you get on the field and walk around. The 924/944/968/928 class filled a large section of the field, and even included some cars not in the Concours that were on display for the “40th

the right look. Keys were handed out and explained. I think some music may have come on in the background – “Queen” perhaps - and Betty and I were guided to a spot about 10 feet in front of the unveiling. Slowly the cover was pulled back. An appreciative audience had joined us, and all smiled with us at the new birth.

Tech Quiz

Continuing in his tradition of coming in either 1st or 2nd in the early 911s category of the annual Technical and Historic Quiz held at Parade, Andrew Chisholm came in 2nd again this year! Congrats Andrew on yet another trophy! Some younger contestants work hard to memorize all sorts of facts about the early Porsches but Andrew has all the data filed away in his mind as a result of having been there…this was his 34th Porsche Parade attended…congrats for that accomplishment as well Andrew!

in the Marvel Comics movie and the restaurant we later visited was Captain America’s office. once indoors it is a visual delight and thanks to great planning and construction there is no airplane noise. living in Tidewater one learns just how noisy a jet can be - none of that inside PeC-A.

FIRST SeTTleRS ReGIoN

“Bob Ingram’s 918 Spyder at RPM”
