Although the world’s most beloved and furry seasonal prognosticator, Punxsutawney Phil, saw his shadow, portending six more weeks of winter, which is keeping many of us in the garage preparing our favorite wheeled friend for better (read: warmer) days ahead this spring. We have already sprung our clocks forward and the Spring equinox is nearly here, longer and warmer days will be here before you know it. Take the time now to ensure your Porsche is in tip top shape by either performing the maintenance yourself or patronizing our primary sponsor Checkered Flag Porsche. Happy anniversary to our members who have reached milestones of 5 years or more in being members in PCA! Thanks again for your continued membership and support. Speaking of Anniversaries this year also marks PCA’s 60th! Since its humble origins in 1955, PCA has grown to be the largest single-marque club in the world with over 117,000 members and 141 regions. I am looking forward to the celebration in French lick Indiana from June 21-27 2015 which will pay homage to the members and events of our past. Be assured there will be some must-attend events and surprises for attendees along with Porsche fun for the whole family! So mark your calendars and I hope to see you there. A final thanks for your confidence in me as club President for this upcoming year. I look forward to continuing the success that George and last year’s board facilitated. I have no doubt that 2015 will be another great year of camaraderie, fun, and community service. This is your club…please help make it what you want it to be. Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any other board members with any new ideas, events or activities you may have. let’s drive,

is firmly seated in your spark plug socket, as it is very easy to insert the plug into the head and have it crossthread. This damages the threads on the head, and in extreme cases, may destroy the threads in the cylinder head entirely. Proceed carefully and cautiously.
Install each spark plug into the cylinder heads without using any antiseize compound. Torque the spark plugs to 30 Nm (22 ft-lbs). Porsche published a bulletin indicating that it doesn’t recommend using anti-seize compound on spark plugs for any of their engines. The bulletin applies retroactively to all models, and the theory is that the anti-seize tends to act as an electrical insulator between the plug and the cylinder head. This could have detrimental effect on the firing of the spark due to the loss (“each spark plug has its own of a good, consistent ground connection.

change your plugs it will give you a little more room to move if you do. There are shields protecting the heads that will need to be removed on both sides of the engine before you can get access to the coils. on the 996 Carreras each cover is held on place by 2 10mm bolts, on the 997s they have changed to 8mm Torxs. Simply remove them and place them aside.

For each coil, remove the two bolts that attach it to the engine. Unplug the coil wire harness. Then simply remove the coil/plug assembly and place it off to the side. All of the coils are the same, so it doesn’t matter which cylinder bank it came from, unless you are specifically trying to troubleshoot a bad coil fault code that was displayed by the main computer.

The replacement of your spark plugs and spark plug wires, or coil packs, is a basic tune-up procedure. I recommend replacing your spark plugs every 10,000 miles. In reality, you can probably go longer than that; however, you never really quite know how long the plugs are going to last.
Happy Anniversary! Ken Thomas, Membership Chair The members listed in the table below will be celebrating significant membership milestones in 2015. Congratulations to all and thank you for your loyalty to Porsche Club of America and First Settlers Region. We hope you are enjoying your membership and all the benefits that are available to you. If you haven’t come out to an event lately, consider joining us for an event in 2015. First Settlers offers many popular events throughout the year with a focus on driving, social and charity activities. And our monthly breakfasts are very popular.
With the introduction of the Boxster / Carrera engine, Porsche eliminated the use of spark plug wires by integrating six small spark plug coils that sit on top of each spark plug. While this configuration may be a bit more expensive than the typical single coil, single capacitive discharge box configuration, it makes the car’s ignition system more reliable by removing a component that constantly wears out and fails. As manufacturing components have become increasingly inexpensive, ignition setups like these have become more common.
Spark plug removal is easy; you just need the right spark plug wrench. I have one that is a spark plug socket with a rubber insert that catches the plug and also has a built-in swivel on the attachment end and is available at www.pelicanparts.com Using a breaker bar, grip the plug and turn it counterclockwise until it is loose. Then pull out your tool and grab the plug. When the plug comes out, you may want to take a close look at it. The spark plug is really the best way to visually “see” what is going on inside your combustion chamber.
Begin by prepping the car. The only thing that you really need to do is make sure that the car is cold. If you try to remove or install spark plugs in a hot car, then you may encounter problems with the spark plugs gumming up or damaging the relatively delicate threads in the aluminum cylinder head. Make sure that the car is cold or, at the bare minimum, only slightly warm to the touch.
Install your new plugs using a torque wrench to measure the amount of torque applied to the plug. This is very important, as it is easy to over- or under-tighten spark plugs. Make sure that the plug

Dissecting VIR: Details from the Car & Driver Lightning Laps
is said about achieving perfection: If you want track speed - sweat the details. The basic rules of track lapping are straight forward: get in line, stay in line and follow the line. Mastering the concept requires a physicist’s understanding of how dramatically a slight misstep can adversely affect your lap times. Here is a primer about how to keep the correct racing line at VIR - as described by the Chevy Camaro z/28 with lap time of 2:50.6. (only about 7 seconds slower than the 918 and about a halfsecond faster than the 911 Turbo S).
Borrowed mostly from eric Tingwall / Car & Driver Magazine In the latest version of the Car & Driver magazine lighting laps the Porsche 918 set a new record of 2:43.1 on the Grand Course. of course, you would expect nothing less from a million-dollar Porsche. Right? (Note: the record was for journalists driving the lighting laps. A Chevy test driver ran the VIR Grand Course in the new Corvette z06 even faster at 2:41.3!)
Hit the Marks. Rather than tracing the shortest path around a track, the optimal line is the largest-radius arc through a corner, raising the speed possible at the limit of cornering grip and reducing the power lost to tire scrub. Failure to properly execute the three main elements of a corner - the turn-in, apex and track-out points - results in slower speed and a longer lap time. For example, Turn 3 at VIR has a radius of 270 feet. Knowing a car’s maximum skidpad grip, you can use a formula to calculate its highest possible speed through the turn. A car with 1.10 g’s of grip can hold the line through Turn 3 up to 66.7 miles per hour (mph). But if you miss the turn-in, apex and track-out points by one foot each the radius falls to 263 feet and max theoretical speed drops to 65.9 mph. (For you engineers the formula is Vmax = square root of g’s x radius in feet x 15)
The Porsche 918 cracks 170 mph just after the main-straight kink, meaning that this slight bend, virtually unnoticed in the other cars, is a gut-knotting 1.0-g turn at 165 mph. one g at 165! That’s a number from real racing, the kind that has girls with umbrellas and live TV coverage. Needless to say, working up our nerve in this nearly million-dollar, 887-hp hybrid took some time. We dipped into the 2:46 range in our first session, mind you, without even engaging the “hot lap” mode, which lets the 918’s two electric motors draw full juice. That’s because the 918 is so natural and forgiving—an 887hp Miata. Baby-stepping, we gradually shaved tenths while growing goose bumps in new places. In our sixth session, with the hotlap mode engaged and a fresh $2568 set of tires, we finally set the all-time lightning lap record: 2:43.1.
Going Slower to Go Faster. optimizing corner exit speed means improving on the constant-radius arc. Moving the apex past the midpoint of the corner increases the radius in the second half of the turn, and unwinding the steering wheel reduces the cornering load on the tires. Now you have more traction for full-throttle acceleration after track-out.
Comparing this time with a pro-racing lap is impossible because of the somewhat odd VIR configuration we use, but we do know that it’s nearly three seconds quicker than the Mosler MT900S, basically a Daytona prototype with turn signals that Mosler once sold to civilians. even more impressive: The battery-laden 918 weighs about 1100 pounds more than the Mosler and matches its 1.16-g average grip in Turn one on slightly narrower tires.
C&D GPS date from the z/28 running through Turn 13 (“Bitch” on the South or Grand Course) shows their modified line was faster than a constant-radius path, with trail braking and a late apex allowing for an earlier throttle application. Compared with a constant radius arc, the modified line raised the average speed by 1.3 mph and exit speed by 10 mph.
To be fair, tricks banned in motorsports are all over the mega-tech 918, which opens an era when top road cars may begin to surpass the performance of big-league racing machines. Four-wheel electric steering doesn’t dilute the near-perfect blend of heft and feedback from the wheel. Movable aerodynamic devices, in the form of a rear wing and underbody flaps, balance the loads on the seriously sticky Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s.
Fast Corners Make for Fast Straights. The constant-radius, steady-speed corner is an over-simplification of the ideal racing (“VIR Grand Course in detail”) Thanks to four-wheel-drive traction and a flatline. In most turns, it’s more important to plane V-8 that sings a le Mans–worthy anthem out its humpback-exit maximize exit speed rather than the average speed through the corner. pipes, the 918 launches out of corners like a mortar shell on July Fourth. That’s because one extra mile per hour at the corner exit adds roughly The regenerative braking and massive carbon-ceramic brakes are one mph over the duration of the next straight. exit at VIR’s Turns 11 equally impressive. Combined, they shed ludicrous speed—the 918 hits and 12 (“oak Tree”) and you start the 2387-foot long back-straight and, 150 mph three times per lap—repeatedly and without fade. By in the z/28, about 15 seconds of full-throttle acceleration. The z/28 hits comparison, Ferrari’s F12 is more than 13 mph slower on the front a top speed of about 135 mph and an average velocity of 110 mph. If straight, yet both cars brake for Turn one in nearly the same place. the average drops by one mph, the result of a slower exit speed out of Most cars require a brush of the brakes before entering the esses, but turn 12, the lap time becomes 0.13 seconds longer. the 918 is going more than 150 mph before the entry, and a considerable amount of braking is required. Braking Points. Just as the fast line around the track blends cornering and acceleration on corner exit, braking lightly in the z/28 while turningUnbelievably swift, surprisingly quiet from a distance, and stupendously in shortens the car’s lap time. Controlled deceleration increases front expensive, the 918 is technology on a rampage. It completely tire loading while diminishing rear tire loading, two effects the enable a recalibrates our sense of fast. higher rate of yaw, or rotation toward the apex. In VIR’s Turn 13, a 148foot of trail braking in the z/28 trims 0.19 seconds compared to a rigid More details from about VIR emerged from the Lightning Laps. Beatles, Donovan, and so on, or maybe not. Regardless, the windows are down and I’m working the 915 transmission while taking the 2.4l up to 6000 rpms at every opportunity. It’s just spectacular. What is on your car-related bucket list? I’m really looking forward to Rennsport Reunion in Monterrey this year. Beyond that, I’ve yet to watch a live 24hrs of Daytona race even though a number of our guys have been there and love it. Gotta do one of these. I have always wanted to go to le Mans in France as well. Since my company is international, I’ve got an open invitation to visit my French colleague. That would be excellent. I’m also planning to take the ’05 997S to Arnold, Nebraska in 2016 for the Sand Hills open Road Challenge to enter the 105mph class time/distance rally. It’s a 52 mile time/distance rally. Another FSR member, John Schwaebler, has agreed to be my co-pilot. I’m on pins & needles for this one… What keeps you in PCA? our people, and First Settlers Region in particular, is home to some of my closest friends. About four of my closest friends today are members of FSR. These are friends I speak with every week, sometimes as often as daily. I can’t always do all of our events, mostly due to competing priorities from both work and my daughters’ school and sports activities, When I am not at an event, even a breakfast, I just miss it. There’s only one person in our club who (“Kevin and Andrew - Air-Cooled Stalwarts!”) I’m 100% confident embodies the way I feel about both Porsche and PCA…he also drives a ’73, and I parked next to him in october at the Air & Auto Show. What kind of Porsche(s) do you drive? My wife finally gave up the Honda odyssey last April…just as she went kicking and screaming into the minivan in 2006, she had an extremely tough time giving up her odyssey. That was until the end of her first full week driving her “new to her” 2012 Cayenne S to work. In her very own words, “I’m ruined.” She loves having her own Porsche, and more than anything, a heated steering wheel… It’s comical that I never had any trouble exchanging my Honda Pilot company car with my wife when her minivan was due for service. Depending on our work schedules, I might have even needed to keep the minivan overnight to complete the service. It was never an issue…we just swapped cars the next time we were home. That’s not so easy anymore…now that she drives the Cayenne every day, she has no interest in driving my company’s Pilot. When I had to take her car in for service a couple months back, she wanted to know exactly how long she would be without her car. Needless to say, I don’t get to drive the Cayenne very much.
Member in the Spotlight Name: Kevin Pirkle Where do you live? Great Bridge in Chesapeake, VA
SPOTLIGHT What do you do for a living? A mechanical engineer by training, I couldn’t have imagined ending up in sales when I graduated from lehigh in 1992. Now, I manage US military sales for Wurth, a German fastener & assembly components supplier. So I’m fortunate enough to say Wurth has somewhere between $20-25 million dollars worth of fasteners on every aircraft carrier, and that’s only for new construction carriers. It feels great to play an active role in keeping our Navy mission-ready. Tell us about your family: The best part of me…I’m incredibly blessed with two girls and even more so to be married to a very special woman. yep, all girls...and it’s wonderful. They come to the occasional breakfast, and as long as FSR has been doing “Turkeys-In-The-Trunk”, I think we’ve only missed one as a family. If my wife is on weekend call at the hospital, you can bet I’ll be driving the girls somewhere in the 911 to get ice cream or Krispy Kreme donuts, followed by a spirited drive through back roads. I’m all about the operation of the 911’s…the shifting, pedal work and sound of the motor. The kids, however, always take notice that people stop to look or turn to notice a (“A Porsche Family Affair”) 911. When they tell me that someone’s looking, I laugh and remind them that time in a Porsche is special...that these cars do not blend in with the countless mass production cars we see today. Moreover, we don’t just have Porsches, we are making family memories in them. It won’t be long before all four of us no longer fit in the 911’s. It’s already incredibly tight, making pedal work all but impossible, and I suppose we’re only one good growth spurt for my youngest away from having to abandon the full foursome drives. I know us all too well though…that will be the day we can’t get out of the neighborhood in it. It’s just something we’ve been enjoying for long enough that we’ll keep doing as long as possible.
We also have two 911’s. The first is a white 2005 997 Carrera S with sport seats, aero, a Softronic tune, an eVoMS intake and cat back exhaust upgrades from Fabspeed and Cargraphics…all of which make the 997S a blast to drive fast. oh…and the 2005 has air conditioning, which admittedly makes it the car of choice on our 99F summer days. More recently, in the fall of 2013, I purchased a 1973 Porsche 911T. I won’t talk too much about the ‘73 here, since I’m planning to write another article for a future issue of the H-o. Suffice it to say the ’73 is my new heart throb…and with newly installed Sport S seats complete with houndstooth centers, it’s quite a looker too. Best of all though, it’s just spectacular to operate… ok…gotta stop before I spoil the upcoming article! What other Porsches have you owned in the past? My first Porsche was a 2002 Carrera in seal grey with leather sport seats and an aluminum interior trim package. I purchased the car from Town Motors in englewood, New Jersey. My friend, Trip and I drove a rental car up the day before I was to take delivery of the CPo purchase. I’m pretty sure I looked like a kid in a candy store for the entire 7.5 hour trip home. As every first time buyer likely announces, I promptly told my wife this car was it…that I’d keep it forever. The reality was that it was 2005, and the 997 had just been released. I’d seen the new car in person, but an $88-92k purchase wasn’t in the cards for us. little did I know that someone would return a seal grey 2006 Carrera S to Brumos Porsche in Jacksonville, Fl after only 6 months of ownership…meaning that only 11 months after my 996 purchase. I had to have the 997. At $78k, I once again convinced Giniene that it was both a bargain and the “one”…that I’d never have another . I kept it for three more years taking it to many club De events before selling it in 2009 to build a purpose built track car. Until 2012 when we purchased the ’05 997S we currently own, I experienced Porsche withdrawal…
What other hobbies do you have besides driving your Porsche? of course, I was born wired to play with cars. When I was about 5, my grandmother bought me a Mickey Mouse watch. I just had to know what was inside…and thus removed the case back to look. When I was twelve, my father gave me a Casio digital watch that played music and allowed me to set multiple alarms. When I graduated high school, my parents gave me a manual wind pocket watch to mark the occasion. over the years, I’ve become a watch guy, buying and selling dozens of watches. I don’t have battery powered watches anymore, since I prefer the micro-machines of automatics so much better now. I love the ticking…sounds a bit like a noisy valve train at idle…grin. PCA Member since? I joined in 2005 when I bought my first Porsche 996 Carrera. Since I lived then where I do now, I joined FSR right out of the gate. I still remember meeting a number of our members at Patriot’s Weekend in July of 2005. I’ve known since then that I would always be a member of First Settlers and PCA. Since then, I’ve had the pleasure of serving on the BoD as both Membership Chair (2 years), Secretary (1 year) and De Registrar (1 year). We really do have a spectacular region.

What is your first Porsche memory? I was six years old in 1976…at the risk of causing an accident, I exclaimed to my father that I saw a chocolate brown Porsche 911 Turbo turning onto 26th street in erie, PA. What is your favorite personal car-related story? Turbos hadn’t been in the country long in 1976, but I instantly recognized the wide-body flares and the whale tail. My father’s response after I had almost stepped off the curb and into traffic to get him to look at the chocolate brown Turbo? “Son, those are for rich people. you’ll never have one of those. Besides, they’re impractical…” on a minister’s salary, he just couldn’t fathom owning any sports car, much less a Porsche. So what happens when you tell a kid no?
(“Just waiting on that Driver’s license!”)
Describe your perfect Porsche day. A partly to mostly sunny 76F Saturday with dry roads and a full tank of gas in the ’73. I roll out onto Mount Pleasant Road and onto the Chesapeake bypass to get the car up to normal operating temperature. once up to temp, I continue the drive through the back roads of Pungo and/or Ballahack. “Let’s Party!”
NEW PCA/FSR MEMBERS
By Phil Grandfield / Photo Credit: Josie Grandfield
What’s precious to you is precious to us.
The annual holiday party was held on Saturday, January 17th at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg and by all accounts was a big success. everyone was surrounded by friends and the food was excellent; both lending to the festive and fun atmosphere. It gave us the opportunity to welcome in Jason Horner as our new president as well as the rest of the new board (“George accepting his gift from Chris & Paul”) members. We also send ‘thanks’ to George and Pam Michaels for their two years as President and “First lady” of the First Settlers Region. George and Pam have been stalwart volunteers for many years and various jobs within the club. They are key to many of our recent successes as a club. of course, they aren’t going far as George is just moving over one seat to the “Past President” chair on the Board of Directors.

The main event was thanking the Michaels for their volunteerism and giving them some well deserved gifts. Pam will likely think that the weekend at the Tides Inn was the cream of the crop, but George really liked the beautiful framed display of his Porsches - both past and present - that was put together by Chris Stanley. It is now proudly on display in George’s garage (of course!). But I think George was most struck by the small model of a Gen-1 VW GTI that is a perfect match to the one (“George’s latest car trophy!”) he has spent the past two years restoring. Funny what car guys find important.......

Thanks to Bret Jacobsen for setting up the event but also to everyone who helped. I know Bret was especially relieved when Kathy and Jerry Kent stepped up to take care of the table decorations and Josie Grandfield took charge of the auction. No telling what we would happened if we left an engineer in charge of the finer aspects of the festivities!! The night was a great start to what promises to be another fun year for First Settlers Region. The calendar is filling up and the snow won’t last forever. We hope to see you at an event soon!!! A highlight of the evening was the White elephant Silent Auction. This has become a fun event over the past few years and it is fun to watch everyone jockey for position when the hammer is ready to fall on the bidding. This year the event brought in just over $1000 that will go directly to our charities. Thanks to everyone who either donated an item or got involved in the bidding. We can’t do it without you!

The First Settlers Region Public Service program continues to be very successful and allows our members to give back to the community in the name of PCA. In the past five years, we have donated $96,504 and over 21,700 pounds of food. Congrautlations to all of us! your generosity remains the key to this success but the real backbone of the program is the sponsorship we receive and the volunteers who donate their time and ideas to that make the program work.

The basics of our charity program remain the same. We will continue to run the monthly raffles at breakfast - as long as people keep buying tickets!! This raffle program would not be possible without the direct support we receive from Checkered Flag Porsche/Audi/Jaguar in Virginia Beach. Most of the raffle items are donated by the dealership and come directly from their Service Department. other items are donated by our members and are always welcome!
2015 HPDE dates: 11-12 July: VIR Full Course - This event will replace our traditional Spring event (May). Due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to switch from May to July this year - but we are working with VIR to return to our regular schedule for 2016. Please note that this will be a Sat/Sun only event.
The Spring event will be held this year in May at the Hilton oceanfront in Virginia Beach. See the details of the event elsewhere in this newsletter. George Michaels is making plans for the 6th Annual Air & Auto Classic Car Show at the Virginia Beach Military Aviation Museum in october and, of course, we are planning the very popular Turkeysin-the-Trunk food drive in November.
19-21 September: VIR South and Full Course - This is our traditional Fall 3 Day event. We will run on the South Course Saturday and Sunday and the Full Course on Monday.

Mission is to lead the effort to eliminate hunger in our community. The Foodbank supports a 4,745 square mile service area, including the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Suffolk, Franklin and Virginia Beach as well as the counties of Southampton, Northampton, Sussex, Isle of Wight and Accomack.
I need help finding sponsors or members to donate items for the Silent Auction or to provide money to support the events. It would be great if your business can donate either products or services to support our Silent Auctions. or if you can ask your favorite local restaurant for a gift certificate the next time you stop by for lunch or dinner. Know anyone with a beach house that would be willing to donate a week or weekend rental to support our charities? The donations don’t have to be car related; in fact some of our most popular items have been art work, jewelry and services.

Spring Charity Event at the Oceanfront!! May 1-3, 2015
The West Baden Springs Hotel. located at French lick Resort, named Best Historic Resort by Historic Hotels of America, this exquisite property was once known as the “eighth Wonder of the World” for its breathtaking six story free-span dome. Today, it is home to the prestigious Pete Dye Course and has been recognized on the exclusive Conde Nast Traveler’s Gold list.
Please join us on the first weekend in May at the Hilton Virginia Beach oceanfront for the 2015 version of this annual weekend event. After moving around Virginia in the past few years to various venues that included the Tides Inn, The Homestead Resort, Graves Mountain lodge and Williamsburg to hold our Spring Charity event, this year we were fortunate enough to secure a prime weekend at this beautiful hotel along the Virginia Beach oceanfront. At the time of this writing, the planning is tentative and there are many details to work out but we have a fun weekend planned. Here is what is in store:
(“Join us on the beautiful Virginia Beach Boardwalk!”)
Concours d’Elegance. For PCA’s 60th Anniversary Porsche Parade Concours d’ elegance on Monday, June 22nd, we’re hoping to have one of the largest historic car displays in the history of Parades. like the 50th Parade in Hershey, the Parade Concours Committee wants to showcase Porsche’s great race cars and historically significant street machines, but we also want to do something a little different to honor our members and their cars. our goal for French lick is, quite simply, 60 4 60. We want to have a member car represent each of the 60 years of the Porsche Parade and the Club’s history- from 1955 through 2015. 60 (actually 61!) cars representing 60 years of PCA’s love affair with Porsche. our selection criteria will not necessarily be based on a car’s appearance or concours points. Not all of the cars will be perfect, but their ties to the Club‘s history will be inviolate and indisputable.
Expect a Welcome Party on Friday night to get the party started. A guided tour of an aircraft carrier in Norfolk on Saturday morning - based on availability of a “flat-top”, of course. An exclusive “Porsche-Only” Concours on Saturday afternoon right on the Boardwalk in front of the Hilton to include a police escort to get us parked. It would be great to have 50+ Porsches on display right along the beach!!! A gourmet heavy hors d'oeuvres dinner on Saturday night with a waterfront view overlooking the Boardwalk and ocean.
JUNE 21-27, 2015
A Silent Auction with some great items available and all proceeds going directly to charity. We expect to have a block of rooms at both the Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn right on the sand at the oceanfront. Voted a “Best Hotel for 2015” by U.S. News & World Report, the Hilton Virginia Beach oceanfront is one of the most luxurious hotels in Virginia. The hotel hosts some of the finest dining in Virginia Beach with two award winning restaurants; Catch 31 offering fresh seafood and Salacia which is Virginia’s only AAA 4-Diamond Steakhouse. There may be an opportunity for you to “upgrade” to The empyrean Club; a “hotel within a hotel” which occupies the top three floors of the Hilton and features personalized concierge service and true pampering.

The 60th Annual Porsche Parade
The cars and the owners who display them will represent the legacy of our club, and will be featured on special placards focusing on that particular year in the Club’s history. So how does yoUR car represent one year in the Club’s history at the 60th Porsche Parade in French lick at this display? First and foremost, you must be a Parade registrant. Second, the model year of your car must represent its particular calendar year.
The Porsche Club of America cordially invites you to attend our 60th Annual Porsche Parade Celebration in French lick Indiana from June 21-27, 2015. our 60th Parade coincides with the Club’s 60th Anniversary Celebration, and we’re planning a series of special events at French lick that will pay tribute to the cars and people who have made us the greatest single marque sports car club in the world. The 60th Parade will rightfully pay homage to the members and events of our past, but will also celebrate the Club’s newest enthusiasts who will shape our future.

That's how all of us from all over the country get to know each other, by working a couple of two hour shifts during the week with other PCA members. Volunteers are very much needed with the numerous tasks to help make this event run smoothly.
Welcome to the winding roads of Southern Indiana! yeS, those of you driving in will get to see some of why our Southern Indiana Region members are proud to call this territory home! And the roads are not all we’re anxious for you to come and enjoy!

By volunteering to work at the Parade, you will receive a specially designed shirt to be worn while you work. When you complete a shift, please have your Volunteer Worker card stamped.

“Let’s Party!”
NEW PCA/FSR MEMBERS

For each coil, remove the two bolts that attach it to the engine. Unplug the coil wire harness. Then simply remove the coil/plug assembly and place it off to the side. The replacement of your spark plugs and spark plug wires, or coil packs, is a basic tune-up procedure. I recommend replacing your spark plugs every 10,000 miles. In reality, you can probably go longer than that; however, you never really quite know how long the plugs are going to last.

Congratulations again and we hope to see you soon.
With the coil assembly removed, you should be able to look down the hole and see the spark plug hiding in there. If the tube has oil in it, the bellows may have cracked or become contaminated. you should replace it with a new one.

is firmly seated in your spark plug socket, as it is very easy to insert the plug into the head and have it crossthread.

From the President Jason Horner FSR Members, I would like to thank all of you who were able to make it to our New year Party and for making it another success (besides the “no chocolate” at the dessert bar). In FSR’s true spirit over $1000.00 was raised for charity from the White elephant auction. Thanks for your generosity and congratulations go out to all the lucky winners.

Please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any other board members with any new ideas, events or activities you may have. let’s drive,
Jason
