Woodborough, Burton Joyce and Lambley

UP BY THE RIVER IT IS LOVELY Burton Joyce

At Gedling Homes we want all our neighbourhoods to be great places to live. We want them to look great, have great services, feel safe and be a place for both work and recreation. We have produced a neighbourhood promise for each of Gedling Homes’ neighbourhood areas and this one is yours. The promise will run for 3 years and will be reviewed annually with tenants, to assess our progress against the actions.

Partnership working is the key to creating great neighbourhoods, as no one agency can do it all on their own. We would like everyone to work together, to decide how their local neighbourhood should develop and grow in the future, to improve on the services they don’t like and maintain those that they do. Your plan identifies the main issues that affect your neighbourhood and what needs to be done both by us and our partner organisations to address them.

Your GREAT Neighbourhood Woodborough is a small village, located 7 miles north-east of Nottingham with a population of just under 2,000. Woodborough was traditionally a ‘framework-knitting’ village, and some two-story cottages with ground-floor knitter’s windows remain at the junction of High Street and Shelt Hill. The village has its own primary school, two very popular pubs, sited at either end of the village; and Woodborough Hall, a popular hotel and restaurant.

Burton Joyce is a large village and civil parish with a population of nearly 4,000. The village sits on the River Trent, and is home to Burton Joyce railway station. Due to the proximity of the river and nearby countryside, Burton Joyce has a pleasant and picturesque atmosphere and has three popular pubs that attract visitors from far afield. Lambley is a small village and is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 by the name of Lambeleia. There is a stream called Cocker Beck running through the “Dumbles” (woods) and on through the middle of the village. The Dumbles are a favoured route for ramblers. The village is secluded in a horseshoe shaped valley. It is a popular place for people to visit, to drink and eat in the pubs and to visit the garden centre on Catfoot Lane. Lambley has no local shops but still boasts one of the few remaining locally run village garages in the area, “Lambley Motors”. Buses run at limited times throughout the day from Woodborugh and Lambley into Nottingham City Centre where a wider range of services can be accessed. The bus route from Burton Joyce has more frequent journey times. Gedling Homes properties in these neighbourhoods are made up of a mixture of bedsits, 1 bedroomed flats, 2 and 3 bedroomed houses and two sheltered housing schemes at Roe Hill, Woodborough (bungalows) and Lendrum Court, Burton Joyce (bedsits). Gedling Homes has properties in: ●

Rating Your Neighbourhood

THE BUSES AREN’T ALWAYS ON TIME

THE DOCTORS ARE EXCELLENT Burton Joyce

Working with our tenants we have identified a range of measures that tell us how well your neighbourhood is doing. These are called neighbourhood indicators and will be used alongside the feedback we have collected from tenants and residents. The information will tell us how much and what type of support we and our partners need to provide to your neighbourhood.

Our tenants have told us to use a simple star rating, from 1-5, with 5 being the best. We will give a star rating to a range of indicators to identify a final, overall score. Together with tenants, we have chosen indicators that we believe best represent how a neighbourhood feels. 5

Local Knowledge - Auditing Your Neighbourhood

A PLEASANT DISTANCE FROM THE CITY Burton Joyce

Final Thoughts We hope that over the next three years, through the actions outlined in Your GREAT Neighbourhood Promise, we will really make a visible difference to your neighbourhood. We want to make your community more attractive for those currently living or thinking of living there, and improve residents’ quality of life.

We believe that the key to achieving the goals set out in this plan is to continue working together, with you, our tenants and leaseholders.

What happens next? Work has already begun in your neighbourhood on the various actions outlined in Your GREAT Neighbourhood Promise as well as in our other 8 Gedling Homes neighbourhoods. We would like Your GREAT Neighbourhood Promise to mark the start of a new phase of activity aimed at ensuring all our neighbourhoods become the great places that we all want and know they can be. We will be reviewing the plan frequently and we will keep you updated on the progress with an annual report. You will have the opportunity to be involved in this so please watch out for advertised activities or requests for feedback. However, if you have something to say, don’t wait for us to call you!
