TIGER IS BACK... REALLY The word came in prior to Tigers tournament, The Quicken Loan National at Congressional, last week that he would indeed play in his first event in over 3 months on the PGA Tour. At the 10th hole at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland on Thursday morning, Tiger struck his first tee shot surrounded by fans at the event excited to once again see Tiger. He flew the green, landed in the bunker, and made a bogy on the next 2 holes. After 18 holes on Thursday and another 18 on Friday, it was obvious that Tiger was not actually back. For 36 holes Tiger carded 12 Bogies, 1 double, 16 pars and 7 birdies to miss the cut with a two day total of + 7, tied for 103rd place. Tigers comment after the unmemorable performance, “I had a little rust out there today”. There is no doubt that Tiger Woods has been the most impactful player in golf for a very long time. As far as the PGA Tour ratings and profitability for the Tour, Tiger has been the messiah for a sport that was flailing at best in the mid to late 90’s. Tigers golf was great at every level, fun to watch, fun to follow and most importantly fun to emulate as much of the youth of the world did. Golf experienced an amazing boom, but in the end, it had no staying power. Golf today, statistically is not far from where it was prior to the Tiger Woods era in the game. Over time there have been many great players in golf that have endeared the fans of the game. Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Hogan, Snead, Nelson, Jones and many more. Golf has endured and will endure moving forward, not because of one single person but because many people that played the game with love, honor and respect for what it gives back to all of us. In 2009, Tiger Woods passed a major milestone in sports as he reached 1 billion dollars in career earnings. Also in 2009, Tiger Woods lost something he may never find for the rest of his career, his competitive edge. In 2013, Tigers largest sponsor ran a simple ad that made a very sad statement on the state of things in golf and in life, “Winning Takes Care of Everything”....Really.

Race to Saratoga Springs
and The Sagamore
You can bet on a great golf vacation by racing to Saratoga Springs. Across the border of New England, The Saratoga Race track is the oldest operating sports venue, showcasing 151 years of fine equines. For just $3, families bring their own fare to the elegant picnic area watching the races on screens as live horses parade from the paddocks or upgrade to the trackside thrill in the main grandstand. Saratoga Springs is named for the underground mineral rivers, hailed as healing fluid. Sojourners still flock to the Roosevelt Baths and Spa. Odorless but salty spring water is drawn in a sunken bathtub. Oxygenation creates a rusty hue. Every little movement causes a fizz of bubbles, effervescent fun. All that is lacking is the rubber ducky. After bath massage oils hydrate and muscles unwind in private or couples rooms -ahhhh. The Roosevelt Baths and Spa is in the Saratoga Spa State Park, run by the Gideon Putnam Resort. Putnam was a visionary of the early 1800s. Competition came along and lodging options are many today but the Gideon Putnam stands out as an historic landmark with excellent service. A shuttle transports a few minutes into

town to explore the art galleries, boutiques and restaurants. Wheatfield’s pastas with gourmet proteins and sinful desserts delight as locals celebrate the end of a workday in the bar. Also within the State Park is the Saratoga Spa Golf course, a pristine, affordable setting where New England Golf Monthly readers Mike
Civitello, Sal Scafarrello, Sal Bonito and Art Martorello, have returned from Connecticut for 25 years to play. A German doctor built it with a calculation for walking and playing 18 holes for optimal exertion to derive maximum benefits of the mineral baths. While birds of prey swoon in and out of tall pines here, aircraft zoom on and off the runway next to holes 2 and 8 at nearby Airway Meadows Golf Course. An excavator by trade, owner Don assisted in building a Tiger Woods course and was intrigued by the opportunity. He built his case to wife Joan about how many golfers were showing up and why not show up for them, so they built a course around the family airstrip. Don still excavates on the side but he couldn’t have built a better office for the family. Joan works 12-hour days while their superintendent son mows as dog Lexi, trees a squirrel in the fairway. This course has tons of character and hills. Covered bridges with famous names, like Golden Gate, Brooklyn and London carry carts over streams. Biplanes and skydivers entertain on a clear day. Don’t miss this hilly dilly. Saratoga National is the area’s premier course, close to the Track with a grand entrance, award winning Prime restaurant and luxurious setting. It is target golf with lots of carry, especially number four, a long par 5 with vast marshlands preceding the landing area. The lake around fifteen’s island green is likely full of missing balls. There is no racing to the finish line at Saratoga National. The scenery is meant for
slow absorption. Get your golf on in Saratoga and embrace the race. Visit www.saratoga.org 30 miles north, the Sagamore Resort is majestically mounted on the shore of Lake George at the end of “millionaire’s row.” Guests feel like a million when they stay in the mansion or rim lodges with fireplaces and private balconies for lake views. The lobby bar and terrace over look the pool terrace, the marina and beach, then wide-open water. Rent a pontoon, paddleboard or anything in between, at the dock below. Go North of the border for some great Canadian golf
North of the border the vast area that is Canada is populated by about 1/10 of the people we have here in the U.S. or about 33 million to our more than 300 million. Using that ratio since the Canada has about 2,300 golf courses, you could assume the U.S. has around 23,000 tracks. Wrong. We have about 17,000. So bottom line: it should be easier for Canadians to get a tee time. Good idea as it gets pretty cold throughout Canada during the winter so if you live north of the border, you need to make proverbial hay while the sun shines. As you might expect, the clusters of golf courses are typically located near the largest population centers like Vancouver, Toronto, and Quebec but some areas like Newfoundland and Labrador have an extraordinary number of courses for its size. Better yet in Canada you experience some of the top layouts in the world, courses like Banff Springs and Jasper Park in the western Rockies and the salty seacoast links of Prince Edward Island in the east. Golf | Set on Passamaquoddy Bay there are places on the historic Algonquin Golf Course in St. Andrews By-The-Sea where the coast of Maine looks close enough to reach by rowboat. Located in the southern part of New Brunswick, this course has the oldest clubhouse in Canada (1894) and was renovated from Donald Ross’s plans by Thomas McBroom in 2000. Guests of the Algonquin can take a shuttle from the Harbour to the 9-hole Herring Cove Provincial Park’s course on Campobello Island. Newfoundland and Labrador Quick Take | Untouched wilderness areas lend plenty of room for wildlife and for humans to spread out and soak up the scenery and the rich ecological history dating back millions of years. Slightly smaller than California, this island lies on the eastern edge of the North America with one third of the population of 510,000 living in the capital city of St. John’s. Labrador is connected to mainland Canada but to get to Newfoundland you’ll need to fly or go by boat. Golf | You may well take your eye off the ball when playing one of the more than 20 courses in Newfoundland and Labrador: your views of rugged seacoast, forested hills, whales breaching through the surf and the sheer natural beauty of the region is mesmerizing. One of the top courses, Humber Valley’s River Course, can put you on sensory overload with its sweeping vistas of mountains, water, plunging cliffs and tall pines. Nature-rich Pippy Park, one of Canada’s largest urban parks has 27 holes of family-friendly golf on Admiral’s Green and Captain’s Hill courses. Set in a 3,400-acre reserve, Pippy has a huge array of recreational facilities from walking trails to picnic areas. The Wilds, a spectacular course, is defined by wetlands, more than 70 bunkers, plunging ravines, el-

“Fore” of course, a universally recognized warning on courses around the world.) Golf | In addition to more than 300 golf courses, Quebec has the oldest golf club in North America: Royal Montreal, the first to receive the “royal” prefix (1884), the first to allow women members (1891) and the first to host the Canadian Open (1904). The
club moved to Bizard in the 1950s when Dick Wilson laid out two 18s, Red and Blue. There are so many excellent tracks in Quebec, it is a real challenge to pick just a handful to play. If you can get on one of the most exclusive private tracks in Canada, Willie Park Jr.’s hilly Old World course at Mount Bruno Country Club. East of Montreal, go for it. it dates back to 1919 and is an excellent track.

“The Big W” and Boston The big W is not just the Win but Women winning and after the performance at the historic US Woman’s Open, Michelle Wie. Women are front and center and yes perhaps louder than a lion you can hear them roar from sports to music, fashion, business and everything in between. This was highlighted most prevalently during the US Open when for the first time the USGA held back to back US Open’s for the men and women. Pinehurst played a very gracious host to this historic event. Women played the same course, Pinehurst No. 2, just a few days after the men. What was most remarkable is to see how far women have come and to appreciate those that have come before us to pave the way and make our journey a bit smoother. The evolution and examples are abundant from Catherine Lacoste, the only amateur to win the U.S. Women’s Open in 1967 to Stephanie Meadow, a young woman from Northern Ireland making her first appearance as a professional on golf’s biggest platform, the US Woman’s Open, and placing third to the long awaited win my Michelle Wie. Women have been taking chances and winning for a long while even against tougher odds and lesser opportunities. Catherine Lacoste, the daughter of French tennis player René Lacoste, the founder of the fashion brand named after him, won the U.S. Women’s Open in 1967 as a 22-year-old amateur. Michelle Wei came on the scene at the very young age of 16 in 2005 and pushed the envelope by playing alongside the men. She finally proved her greatness with her US Open win. Not only in sports but in business and every other area there is a ground swell of women moving and shaking and a number of organizations and events that are empowering and enhancing woman’s lives. WISE, Women in Sports and Events, with the mission to create and support programs that enhance the success and growth of women in the business of sports and events. Recently Laurie Voke of the Boston WISE chapter hosted an Olympic panel discussion event “At the Top of Their Games”: Featuring local Olympians: Dara Torres, Katie King, Katey Stone, Lea Davison, and Gevvie Stone. The Executive Woman’s Golf Association, EWGA, is another resource that enables women to

network with other women using golf as the platform. Enabling beginners to advanced players to have a platform to play golf. Boston’s chapter is active and popular and with good reason President Robin Duffy has a lineup of events that make it impossible to not want to participate. From 18 weekly leagues, golfing events every weekend from May- September, 9 and dine events, and my personal favorite a Cape weekend event. Most impressive is they have a New England Cup that they play. In this match play event six NE chapters send 8 players to compete in the 1 day event. And just like the Red Sox, Boston EWGA chapter took home the NE Cup. There is a sense of untapped potential and platforms to assist any women to do whatever she dreams. As women of all ages take risks and live their dreams and passions with the roar of a lion it is always important to tip our hats to the remarkable women that came before, paved the way and continue to be a resource and encouragement for growth. At a time when reality TV is prevalent and come to mean scripted fantasy the real reality and female role models can be seen in the achievements of these women who are quick to tell you while they learned to create balance and breathe they never took their foot off the petal or their eye off the road.

The Hub of Golf in New England Granite Links Quarry Hills Quincy, MA
Boston, the hub of New England has a rich and storied history in the game of golf. Frederick Law Olmstead in a partnership with Harvard University and the City of Boston designed and built the 281-acre Arnold Arboretum in 1872. He was said to have created a small 3 to 6-hole golf course in the park called The Magnolia Course. Harvard Alumni and scholars from abroad played the first golf in Boston here. The Country Club was founded as a sporting club in1882 in Brookline, MA just outside of Boston proper. In 1893 the golf course was built and in 1894 in a meeting at The Country Club in May, the USGA was formed with 4 other U.S. clubs for the purpose of sponsoring an undisputed national championship. They organized the first U.S. Amateur Championship and the first U.S. Open both played at Newport Country Club in 1985. The rest of the story of U.S. Golf history came along 20 years later when Francis Ouimet became the first amateur to win the 1913 U.S. Open. Ouimet was allowed time off from his job at George Wright Sporting Goods in Boston to practice and compete in the Open. George Wright a baseball Hall of Fame player and coach was the father of municipal golf as he laid
out the first public golf course in America at Franklin Park in Boston in 1890. In 1938 The George Wright Golf Course opened in Hyde Park. The course today stands as one of Donald Ross’s most storied designs and as recently as 2009 was voted one of the best municipal golf courses in America. The first golf course that comes to mind when talking about Boston golf may be The Country Club but Bean Town is the links hub of New England and there is some of the best golf in the world right here in our own back yard. Massachusetts, a state that is 45th in the nation in size has a lot of golf courses. There are 408 golf courses in the state and over 75% of them can be reached in less than an hour drive from Boston. For that matter if you count the courses in Maine,

New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island that are all about 1 hour away the number of courses grows to over 450 golf courses. A few weeks ago, we had the distinct pleasure of spending the weekend with our wives at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, NH. Pleasant Golf Course sat quietly waiting for us to grace its fairways. With perfect weather in the forecast a dream weekend was on the horizon. signed by the great Donald Ross in 1915. The course was re-opened in 2008 after an original restoration by noted golf course architect Brian Silva. The course was challenging but fair with bunkers perfectly placed in landing areas and false fronts to grab the shots that came up just a bit too short. The 9 hole Mount Pleasant Course first opened in 1895 and plays to a par 35. In 1989, the course was restored by Cornish & Silva and now offers a very challenging round alongside the NH’s Ammonoosuc River. We were very impressed with Mount Washington’s initiative to grow the game by offering family tees and larger holes on what they call their Family Course. On our last night, the four of us had a delicious dinner at Stickney’s Restaurant on the lower level of the resort. The renowned pub and steakhouse integrates fresh and local regional products with the finest ingredients available. On a cool night you can sit by the fire or in the summer take a seat on the back patio and enjoy the view. After dinner we stopped by The Cave for a night cap. This prohibition-era, stone bar is an experience and atmosphere not to be missed! Allendale Country Club Now a Semi-Private Club Welcomes the Public As my friend and I left the hustle and bustle of the city streets of Dartmouth and drove up the tree-lined entrance of Allendale CC, we automatically felt it…the serenity of this countryside venue. Why would ladies want to join Allendale? The Pro commented, “It’s a tough course for ladies at 5,540 yards, five par 5s, not much roll and lots of water. However, what’s special about our club is the friendliness of the members…they’re regular people out to have a good time.” Friendliness…that was an understatement! From the time we stepped out of our vehicle we experienced it… friendly greetings from perfect strangers. As we began our golfing adventure, we embraced the quiet solitude. Although fellow golfers were playing adjacent fairways, the broad fairways are laid out with lots of distance between holes each bordered by picture-perfect, immaculately pruned hardwoods and flowering ornamentals. This Geoffrey Cornish designed course offers an immense layout with a great diversity of holes. The many generously sized elevated, sloped, undulating greens require a precise approach shot. Green side bunkers don’t pose a hazard, provided you hit a straight approach shot, the ball will roll up to the green. The only exception is hole #18 where the green is fronted by a large bunker. The course condition was immaculate, making it easy to hit from the lush fairways and rough and the border trees do not pose a threat unless you hit an errant shot. Beautifully shaped bunkers are deep (so don’t get in them). The course starts out easy with straight forward holes until you come to the intriguing 4th hole that surprises you with a severe dog-leg right over a large pond to an elevated green. Then comes the string of water

holes #6-8 that give you that “deja-vu” feeling and you question… “Didn’t we just go over that pond?” Then you realize that they run back and forth crossing over that same pond, requiring either a tee shot or layup shot over the water. The diversity of holes requires thought as to club selection and culminates with the fun 18th (no water thank god!!) just a hazardous bunker fronting the green. The par-3 holes are lady-friendly ranging in distance from 105-150 yards. My friend and I, who consider ourselves your average female golfer, found the course’s length manageable and just the right mix of easy vs. more challenging holes to keep the game interesting. Talking to a female member, who’s been there for 30 years, raved about the head Pro, who has done a fantastic job implementing programs to grow the membership. Going to semi-private status, they hope to welcome more lady golfers. Weekly ladies’ leagues are available Tuesday AM and Thursday PM. Ladies group clinics are offered weekly plus a variety of ladies and mixed tournaments are scheduled throughout the season. Public can sample Allendale’s amenities through the “Member for a Day” rate of $55 with cart or buy five 18-hole passes for $225 (including bag of range balls). An incredible bargain for area golfers who want to experience this top-shelf countryside club complete with all its amenities…driving range, chipping green with bunker, practice green, locker rooms, clubhouse with restaurant and deck seating overlooking the Olympic sized pool. Rocky Carroll, “NCIS” Rocky Carroll’s current role as Director Leon Vance in “NCIS,” one of TV’s most-watched series, has earned him international recognition. However, this stardom has certainly not been an “overnight success story” as the 51-year-old actor has enjoyed a critically-acclaimed career in theater, film, and TV for almost 30 years. Born and raised in Cincinnati, Carroll graduated high school from the renowned School for Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA) and then received a B.F.A. degree from The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University in St. Louis. Director Joseph Papp hired Carroll to perform in his celebrated New York Shakespeare Festival, and, after serving his apprenticeship there, Carroll was
nominated in 1990 for a Tony Award for his Broadway performance in August Wilson’s “The Piano Lesson.” Carroll’s career blossomed in 1991 with his portrayal of Joey in the comedy-drama “Roc.” His next role in a TV series was as Dr. Keith Wilkes in “Chicago Hope,” where he met and worked with Mark Harmon. He has guest starred in a number of other TV programs as well. His movie credits include “Born on the Fourth of July,” “The Chase,” “Crimson Tide,” “The Great White Hype” with Samuel L. Jackson, “Prelude to a Kiss,” “Prisoner,” “Talk Radio,” and “Yes Man” with Jim Carrey. NEGM: What’s it like working with Mark Harmon again? RC: Just great! I feel very fortunate that Mark and I have reunited and are working together again. I have been with CBS now for 20 years. The network has always tried to build and solidify successful relationships and has had a lot to do with why Mark and I are together again. Also, Mark Harmon was an outstanding quarterback at UCLA, and he is the ultimate team player. He has always understood that the team is stronger than the individual—which is rare in a profession that is very much about individual achievement and self-preservation.
NEGM: You play the role of Director Leon Vance in “NCIS.” What has made this drama a perennial Top 10 show since its inception 11 years ago? RC: Here’s my theory. In the real world, justice comes very slowly, sometimes not at all, but in “NCIS,” where Jethro Gibbs has a strong moral compass, and he is supported by the similar moral code of his supporting characters, at the end of the hour, the bad guys have been brought to justice. Gibbs follows his instincts and his guts, and to the viewer, he is “everyman,” representing us and doing it very well. Of course, the writing, plots, and character development are superb, too.
NEGM: Tell us about working with Joseph Papp and his New York Shakespeare Festival. RC: Papp hired me right out of college, my very first acting job. He saw in me, I think, a raw undeveloped young kid who had potential, but that potential needed to be nurtured and developed. Papp understood talent and how to fashion it. I was never the star in those productions, but Papp gave me the opportunity to be in the company of great actors from whom I learned the craft. I appreciate my apprenticeship with him more now than ever before.
NEGM: Where do you play your golf? What is your handicap? Best part of your game? With whom do you play? RC: I play all around LA, where the many public courses have layouts that rival the private clubs. I decided not to join a club because I didn’t want to be “married” to one course only, even though I live a strong
3-metal from Wilshire CC. My current index is 15.6, not bad for a weekend golfer. I have a pretty good feel for the short game, and I putt pretty well. Samuel L. Jackson is an avid golfer, and he really got me involved in the game. We have worked together professionally, and we play golf together regularly. I have a great time playing golf with Cheryl Ladd, Andy Garcia, William Devane, and Kevin Sorbo [Hercules].
NEGM: What are your impressions of New England? RC: I have spent the last four Fourth of July weeks in Hyannis. I love the serenity and ambiance of Cape Cod, and I found Hyannis to be laid back and relaxed—a great alternative to the LA lifestyle. If my wife and I wanted to sit out and read a book, take a stroll along the beach or around town, go play golf, or have a lobster dinner within walking distance of the house, you can’t beat Cape Cod. I had a lot of fun playing golf at Hyannis Golf Club, The Captains Golf Course, and Falmouth Country Club.
NEGM: Who would be in your Dream Foursome of today? Of any time period? RC: Fred Couples, Jack Nicklaus, and Hall of Fame catcher, Johnny Bench (so I could talk to him about the Big Red Machine that I grew up cheering for). Seve Ballesteros, Joe Louis, and Frank Sinatra (so I could hang out with him after the round).
NEGM: With what charities are you involved? RC: The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles, through my wife. Camp Gid D Up, run by my friend and fellow actor Glynn Turman, which has been a free, western-style summer camp program for disenfranchised inner-city and at-risk youth ages 9 -18. Childhelp, through the efforts of Cheryl Ladd.
NEGM: Why are you an avid poker player? RC: Why not? I’m an actor, and isn’t poker where you make people believe something that probably doesn’t exist? I like it because it is such an active game. You win with good cards, yes, by making believe you don’t have them, but you absolutely have to sell the bad hand as if it were a great one. Poker is the perfect game for actors.

Chipping by Chris Sleeper, PGA Granite Links GC The key to more consistent and better chipping starts with a good fundamental set up. Start by placing your hands lower on the club so your hands are about a 1/2 inch from the bottom of the grip. Next we want to stand with a narrow stance and the ball position lined up towards the back foot. Now lean forward toward the target so most of your weight is now on your front foot, this should help in getting your hands ahead of the ball so the butt end of the club points at your front pocket. We now have built a great base to start our chipping. The chipping motion comes from the shoulders and arms in a pendulum motion similar to putting. The ball should come off the club low and rolling like a putt. Now line up your chip shots like you do your putts and watch them go in the hole!
Range by John Tuffin, PGA Pinehills GC I know time is short for all of us these days but practice can be more effective when it is done correctly in small doses. Coming to the range twice a week and making it a purposeful practice session will serve you best. Have a target and focus as though you are on the course for each shot. Work on making each shot on the range a valuable exercise rather than just hitting mindlessly as it is quality not quantity that will make your practice worthwhile. Also, practice your distance control while there so the next time you are on the curse you have all your yardages and corresponding club choices determined.

Putting by Scott Trethewey, PGA Country Club of New Bedford The question I always ask of my students when it comes to putting is “What is the most important aspect of putting, DISTANCE or DIRECTION?” My answer is always DISTANCE. If you can control the distance of your putts you will always be a more consistent putter. A putt that is too hard or too soft will never go in. I work on distance drills 75% of the time when teaching and practicing. One drill everyone should use when getting to the course, whether its your home course or a new course, is the “Ladder Drill”. Take 3 balls out to the green and start by putting one across the green about 10’ or so(not to a hole). Take the next one and putt that just past the first one ON THE HIGH SIDE. Do the same with the third ball ON THE HIGH SIDE of the second. The distance between each ball should be the same, just like the rungs of a ladder. This drill will help you develop feel AND help you with reading greens. Understanding that a putt will fall in ON THE HIGH SIDE is the key to becoming a better putter. Combining the right speed with the right speed is what separates good putters from great putters. Try this out the next time you go to the course. Instead of putting three balls down and trying to make 15’ putts, which even the best players in the world are less than 50% successful at, is not the way to build confidence or feel.
Bunkers by Jay Packett, PGA Captains Golf Course One of the most psychologically difficult shots to face in a round of golf is the bunker shot. Here are a few tips to help. First, place the ball in the center of your stance. Second, create a solid base. Dig your feet into the sand, shoulders width apart with a little extra pressure on the inside of your feet. This will help you from “spinning out” when you make your swing. Third, pick a spot two inches behind the ball as your point of focus. Fourth, make a confident three quarter swing with a full wrist hinge and slight hip rotation. On the downswing you want the club to enter the sand at your focus point two inches behind the ball. Acceleration through impact is extremely important, follow through to the target and let your momentum die out on its own. Take these tips, practice and see what can happen.
Pitching by Mike Harbour, PGA Mulligan’s Island Shots on the golf course is the 25 to 75 yard shot. The first thing we do is to have our students place 75% of the weight on there lead leg ( if your right handed it’s on your left leg and if your left handed it will be on your right leg) next we decide how long your swing is going to be based on the length of your shot. We like to use the CLOCK as our example of how much of a backswing and follow thru you will use. For example if you have a 25 yard shot you may use a swing say from 8 to 4 and if it’s 50 yards it may be a swing from 9 to 3 with your weight distribution remaining on your lead leg thru out your swing. Lastly we have you concentrate on rotating your chest thru the impact area to avoid using your arms and wrist to strike the ball, which usually results in a skull shot or fat shot. Keys to short game: 1. Weight distribution 75% on lead leg. 2. Decide on length of backswing and follow thru using a CLOCK as your guide. 3. Rotate your shoulders and chest thru the impact area to your finish.

Tippett talks tees, talent, and timing NFL Hall of Famer and Patriot linebacking legend Andre Tippett became a star by hitting quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers. Hitting a golf ball did not take center stage until he was finished with those important chores. “When I got to the NFL, I really had no idea about golf,” says Tippett, who set the NFL record for most sacks over a two-year period with 35 in 1984 and 1985. “When I was in high school, we used to laugh at the guys who swung a golf club. We told them they should be playing football. I actually took a golf class at Iowa, and then started fooling around with the game a bit more.” Tippett ‘s 12-year NFL career, 1982-93 all with the Patriots, was a model of consistency. In 1985, he was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year for the AFC champion Pats. He is still the only Patriot to garner 100 sacks over a career. Tippett was voted into the Patriots Hall of Fame in 1999 and enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008. Today, the Birmingham, AL native serves as the team’s Executive Director of Community Affairs, and golf has become a huge part of his life. “After I retired, I really started to work on my game to get it up to snuff,” explains Tippett, a 1982 second round draft pick out of Iowa. “I really started to love the game around 1994. A lot of business gets done on the golf course. I started to put a lot of energy into the game and work hard at it. I wanted to be respectful when I got on the course.”

Tippett applied the mental aspects of his football prowess to golf. He also tapped into some great golfing minds. “My high school football coach used to tell me that I was a good listener and learner. I implemented a process to learn golf, starting from the short game out. I learned to chip and putt. “(PGA pro) Brad Faxon gave me a lot of tips over the years. He was one of the best PGA putters of all time. I struggled with it at times and spent a lot of time on the range learning the lessons of mechanics.” The five-time Pro Bowler is a sixth-degree black belt in Uechi-ryu karate. His martial arts acumen aided the golf learning process. “I think mostly in the areas of stance, hands, and shoulders,” relates Tippett. “Mostly, I tried to play with guys who were better than I was. They would look at me funny if I lost a ball. It was a humbling experience. These days, I never brag when I hit a good shot because I know the golf gods can turn on you at any moment.” Supernatural powers aside, the 54 year-old Tippett reduces the game to its purest state. “It comes down to playing smart. In football, you can’t jump offsides, take a stupid penalty, or a late hit with the game on the line. It really has nothing to do with strength and everything to do with mechanics. You have to load up, stay behind the ball, and really work on your timing. To me, that is everything.” A member at Spring Valley and a huge fan of Pinehills, Tippett’s golf bucket list includes play-

ing in Scotland, Augusta, and Pebble Beach. His goals remain quite personal. “I always try to beat my last score,” he relates. “I’ve played with some great golfing athletes like Jim Rice and Bob Montgomery. “Tom Brady has one of the smoothest swings you ever saw. I would love to get out on the course with him again soon. Vince Wilfork loves golf even more than I do, and is fun
to play with and reWalsh, ally competitive.” The ferocious competitor in Tippett clearly has not disappeared, and he seeks out like-minded souls on the links. “I’ve played with some people, and others would ask, ‘Why do you play with such an (expletive deleted),” jokes Tippett. “But I like competitive people. I want to play with people I’d go down an alley with, people who can play with the money on the line. “There are guys I know I can depend on to hit that 2-foot putt with everything on the line, and other guys I know will choke. You can know someone for 20 years and then play golf with them and find out so much more about them. PALOPOLI’S PICKS: BRITISH OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
The Open Championship returns to Royal Liverpool Golf Club (commonly known as Hoylake) on July 17th. The last time the Open was played there was in 2006 when Tiger Woods shot -18 and bested Chris DiMarco by two strokes. In preparation for this year’s event, the course has undergone a number of changes to make it a tougher challenge for the world’s best players. The course will measure 7,312 yards and play to a par of 72, 54 yards longer than in 2006. Also, a number of bunkers have been removed on the course, leaving a total of 82 in across the course and five of the holes have new swales around the greens which can punish errant shots with more varied hazards. Last year Phil Mickelson took home the Claret Jug, proving many pundits wrong who said he could never win on a links style course. Many eyes were on him a few weeks ago at Pinehurst as he attempted to complete his career grand slam. But it was not meant to be, as he placed T28 and is still without a top 10 finish on TOUR this season.
1. Adam Scott He is still hanging on to the number 1 spot on the Official World Golf Rankings, even though Tiger is now back and looking to reclaim that position. I guess you could say that Scott has done ok the past two Opens with a solo 2nd and a T3 respectively. In his last three starts he has a win (Crowne Plaza Invitational), a T4, and a T9 (US Open).
2. Sergio Garcia Everyone is still waiting for when Sergio Garcia will finally win a major. He’s had many close calls and no major fits his game better than the Open Championship, with how creative he can be with his shot making. Sergio placed T5 the last time the Open was played at Royal Liverpool. He also currently leads the TOUR in Scoring Average and is 4th in GIR.
3. Martin Kaymer Most likely improbably to take another major this year, but he’s already won the “5th Major”

(The Players) and the US Open in fashion, so you never know. His best finish at the Open is a T7 in 2010, but he’s obviously playing with a lot of confidence right now. Ranks 1st in Total Driving and 3rd in the All-Around category on TOUR.
4. Rory McIlroy Rory hasn’t performed to his potential at the Open Championship the past few years, without a top 10 since 2010 (T3). But his game has shown flashes of brilliance this year and a number of close calls. He has five top 10s stateside and also won the BMW Championship earlier this year on the European Tour. Currently ranks 5th in Driving Distance and 1st in Birdie Average on TOUR.
5. Henrik Stenson En route to his FedEx Cup Title last year, Stenson placed 2nd to Mickelson at the Open Championship, and he also has two other top 5 finishes at the major. A T4 at the U.S. Open this year will have him coming in to the Open riding with some confidence.

With a couple of our TNE players on the verge of gaining tour cards on the PGA and LPGA tours, there are a couple of players in jeopardy of losing theirs. Perhaps these bright spots will inspire those who continue to struggle. We congratulate Fran Quinn and Rob Oppenheim for their sectional qualifying for this year’s U.S. Open Championship. PGA TOUR Keegan Bradley, (VT) finished 2nd at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, T-8th at the Zurich Classic and T-4th at the U.S.Open. He has made 15 cuts in 18 starts with a scoring average of 70.101. Earnings of $2,068,886, Bradley appears to be improving his putting and driving stats as the season heads toward the play-offs. Scott Stallings, (MA) continues to struggle in spite his win at the Farmers Insurance Open. Making 8 cuts in 19 starts Scott’s earnings are $1,257,676 with a scoring average of 72.00. His all around rank is 139th. Ranked 57rd on the money list, Stallings needs to move the needle on those stats before the play-offs get underway. Jim Renner, (MA) is currently ranked 105th on the money list. Having regained his PGA Tour card for this 2014 PGA TOUR season, with earnings of $672,792, Renner could be in jeopardy of returning to the Web.Com in spite of his T-2nd at the AT&T National Pro-am. Jim has made just 5 cuts in 19 starts with a scoring average of 72.024. JJ Henry, (CT) has 12 cuts in 22 starts under his belt. JJ has generated earnings of $443,208 with a scoring average of 71.237. Currently 132nd in earnings, Henry also finds his back against the wall in cracking the magical 125 to retain his PGA Tour card.
James Driscoll, (MA) has made 10 cuts in 20 starts at this writing. Driscoll’s earnings are $358,339 with a scoring average of 71.237. Currently ranked 146nd on the money list James has his work cut out for him if he expects to avoid Q School in the Fall.
Tim Petrovic, (MA) continues to play where he can on the PGA and the Web.Com tours in his quest to regain his playing privileges. Tim has made a combined 4 cuts in 12 starts with earnings totaling $105,289.
CHAMPIONS TOUR Brad Faxon, (RI) has played all 10 events with earnings of $67,619 with a scoring average of 72.56. Fax’s putting average continues to improve. Brad’s work on his driving accuracy also shows some improvement.
Billy Andrade, (RI) has earnings are $323,790 with a scoring average of 70.68 after 10 events on the Champions Tour. In his rookie year, Andrade leads the TNE contingent on the Champions Tour as he divides his time as co-host of the CVS Charity Classic.
Dana Quigley, (MA) has started in 5 events earning $13,857. Quigley has not competed since the last TNE Update. Dana has been one of TNE’s most prolific Champions Tour players known as the Ironman of tournament play.
PH Horgan III, (RI) is playing a limited schedule on the Champions tour. Playing in 5 events, PH has earnings of $23,111.

LPGA TOUR Alison Walshe, (MA) has made 7 cuts in 13 starts with earnings of $60,435 and a scoring average of 73.10. Alison’s GIR rank is 119th and is tied to her driving accuracy ranking of 138th. Our standout for TNE on the LPGA Tour will see her scoring and earnings improve when she improves those stats.
EUROPEAN PGA TOUR Peter Uihlein, (MA) has not made a cut sine the Cadillac Championship in March on either the European or United States PGA tours. In the Race to Dubai, Uihlein is in 73rd with earnings of $280,276. Peter needs serious work on his driving accuracy.
WEB.COM TOUR Jon Curran, (MA) has made 6 cuts in 11 starts including a victory at the Brasil Champions. Jon is 4th on the Web.Com Money List with $225,482 in earnings with a scoring average of 69.03. Jon, while ranked 126th in driving distance, is actually ranked 8th in driving accuracy making him 3rd in overall scoring. Will Jon join the PGA Tour in 2015? We think so. Jeff Curl, (CT) has 5 cuts in 9 starts with earnings of $45,555 via an improved scoring average of 69.86. His driving accuracy is improving ranked 24th in overall scoring. Jeff’s putting rank is 5th on the Web.Com at this point in the season.
Brad Adamonis, (RI) has competed in just 2 events on the Web.Com as of this writing, missing both cuts. While I’m sure it is a bitter pill for Brad, it is my hope he continues his quest as he is truly one of our most talented players.
Trevor Murphy, (VT) has made 5 cuts in 6 starts earning $38,284 with a scoring average of 70.05. Trevor’s play has yielded a T-9th at the WNB Classic and T-8th in the South Georgia Classic. Considering Murphy didn’t start his season until April, he is having a good season on the Web.Com. Note: Trevor Murphy’s stats reveal what I often lament; the relationship between driving and GIR stats. Trevor is 8th in overall driving and 28th hitting in GIR with a 71.96% conversion rate.
LPGA SYMETRA FUTURES TOUR Brittany Altomare, (MA) has made 11 cuts in 11 starts with a scoring average of 71.284. Earnings of $24,558 and 105 sub-par holes has Brittany headed for the LPGA Tour in 2015. Altomare is ranked 11th on the Symetra money list. Natalie Sheary, (CT) has made 5 cuts in 8 starts with a scoring average of 74.381 and earnings of $3,652. Having earned her LGPA Tour card for this season, Natalie may be holding back from competing on the LPGA until she improves those GIR stats that have her ranked 119th on the Symetra. Molly Aronsson, (VT) has 6 cuts in 12 starts with earnings of $2,537 and a scoring average of 75.107. Putting continues to be Molly’s biggest issue as she is ranked 125th in the putting.

2014 CVS CAREMARK CHARITY CLASSIC | BY JIM HAMMOND Stricker And Van Pelt Successfully Defend Their Title
The annual CVS Caremark Charity Classic was held recently at the Rhode Island Country Club in Barrington, Rhode Island. This unique event is a team competition that generates millions of dollars for local charities. It is also a very special treat for area fans because the teams are composed of members of all three professional golf tours. On Tuesday the team of Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt became the first team in tournament history to successfully defend their CVS Caremark Charity Classic title On Monday, following completion of the first round of play, NEGM was able to speak to a few of the golfers. The team of Steve Stricker and Bo Van Pelt were tied for first with a combined score of 9 under par. This team had won the 2013 tournament by firing a score of 25 under par and won $300,000.00 for their efforts. Steve’s 17 year-old daughter Bobbi caddied for her dad and they both seemed to enjoy the day. Once again in 2014 they

walked away with the victory. N.E.G.M: Steve, you had a great day today, was your caddy a major factor in your success? Stricker: (laughs) Yeah she did okay. I was actually concerned and was wondering if she would last all 18 holes, but she did it. N.E.G.M.: Does she play golf also. Stricker: Yeah, She shoots in the 80’s, so that’s not too bad. N.E.G.M.: Steve you won here in Barrington in 2013, and won the Deutsche Bank at the Boston TPC in Norton, Mass in 2009. What is it about New England that brings out the best in you? Stricker: Wow, that’s a good question. I guess having a partner like Bo helps (laughs). But seriously the atmosphere here at the CVS is more relaxing than most events. The U.S. Open is a couple of weeks before this tournament and playing in that is a real grind. N.E.G.M.: And the win at the Deutsche Bank in 2009?
Stricker: How can you beat New England in the fall? Nice weather and the leaves are changing color. Plus the changes they made in the course at The Deutsche Bank were a real improvement. I got to speak to Lexi Thompson who won a major tournament this year at the Kraft Nabisco Championship. Lexi, along with Morgan Pressel, were the youngest qualifiers for the U.S.Open at the tender age of 12. But this year, 11 year old Lucy Li broke that record and had a very respectable showing by shooting a pair of 78’s at the same course that the men had played a week earlier in North Carolina. N.E.G.M.: Lexi, It seems amazing that Lucy Li broke your record. Lexi: Yeah, how about that. N.E.G.M.: What did you think of the fact that a little girl in the sixth grade qualified for the Open? Lexi: She was a very tiny girl, but wow, what a swing. I played a practice round with her and she hit every fairway. Wish I could do that.
N.E.G.M.: Can her record as the youngest qualifier be broken in the future? Lexi: It is possible. It would be something to see and great for the game. N.E.G.M.: Lucy did not seem to feel any pressure in the tournament. Thompson: No she was laughing and giggling and hitting every fairway. She had the right attitude. One of the golfers who played at every CVS Tournament since its inception in 1999, Peter Jacobsen. N.E.G.M.: Peter, you were paired with Jimmy Walker, who has won three times this year and is number one in the FedEx point standings Jacobsen: Yeah, why do you think we finished 9 under today? NEGM: Peter, you have played here every year since Billy and Brad started the tournament in 1999. What are your favorite memories? Jacobsen: Oh wow. Well it’s the guys I was paired with over the years. Hale Irwin, Brad, Juli Inkster, and then one year I was teamed with Annika (Sorenstam) and Lexi. It’s been a great run and I plan on being back next year for some more fun.

HOLING OUT
In the final round of the Memorial Tournament, Scott Langley’s putt on the 16th green came to rest on the lip of the cup. It appeared that the ball was still moving almost imperceptibly towards the hole. Langley walked half way to the hole, and paused for a considerable period of time, waiting for the ball to drop. He then approached the ball, and waited a while longer. Finally, the ball dropped into the hole. Langley’s actions suggested a possible violation of Rule 16-2. When a ball is overhanging the lip of the hole, the player is allowed enough time to reach the hole “without unreasonable delay,” and an additional ten seconds, to determine whether the ball is at rest. If by then the ball has not fallen into the hole, it is “deemed” to be at rest. If the ball subsequently falls into the hole, the player is deemed to have holed out with his last stroke but must add a penalty stroke. So, if your birdie putt hangs on the lip and you either unreasonably delay reaching the hole or wait for more than ten seconds, you score a par even if your ball ultimately drops into the hole. What constitutes “unreasonable delay” is a matter of interpretation; presumably you can’t get a hot dog and beer from the cart girl while waiting for your ball to drop. Although it appeared that Langley did not approach the hole without unreasonable delay,

the PGA Tour rules official at the scene ruled that there was no violation of Rule 16-2. Some golfers might not be so generous if this situation arises in a competitive match in their club championship. But here’s a rule that helps you. Let’s say your second shot on a par-4 hole comes to rest on the green. You mark your ball about three feet above the hole on a downslope, and when it is your turn to putt you replace the ball. Before you address the ball to putt, it rolls into the hole. What result? You might be surprised to learn that -- provided that the ball was at rest when you replaced it -you record an eagle: you are deemed to have holed out with your last stroke. (Decision 203d/1.) However, if you address the ball (take your stance), you will be deemed to have caused the ball to move and incur a 1-stroke penalty under Rule 18-2b, unless it is known or virtually certain that some external force (a gust of wind) caused the ball to move. A ball is considered to be holed when it is at rest and the entire ball is below the lip of the hole. It is not required that it come to rest at the bottom of the cup. However, if a ball strikes the hole liner and bounces out, it is not holed because it has not come to rest. Jack Ross completed an intensive USGA/PGA rules workshop. Improved weighting and modified sight lines are only part of the putter story for this season. Many makers are producing counterbalanced models in anticipation of the anchored putting stroke ban to go into effect in 2016. Tour players presently using bellies or broomsticks are experimenting with shorter putters and the slightly longer than standard counterbalanced models seem to be gaining favor from some who will have to hang up their long putters. It’s a good idea to start thinking and experimenting with alternatives if you are using a long putter anchored stroke and plan on continuing to post scores for a USGA handicap after the ban goes into effect.

The Cruiser is an adjustable counterbalance design allowing the user to find the weighting they like using head weights of 10g, 15g and 20g to change putter head to 365g, 375g or 385g respectively. Hyannis, MA — Despite a rainy forecast on the final day, a full field of competitors capped off another successful Cape Cod Open, which was held at Olde Barnstable Fairgrounds GC (June 4) and Hyannis GC (June 5). Capturing the top prize was Kyle Gallo (Kensington, CT) with a final score of even par 213 to best Bay State native Michael Welch (Quincy, MA). It marks Gallo’s second Cape Cod Open title (he last won in 2009). This year
he took home a winner’s check of $6,000. In addition to their success on Cape Cod, both Gallo and Welch are very accustomed to winning in Massachusetts. After all, Gallo captured the 2011 Massachusetts Open Championship, while Welch won the same title in 2012. Another former MGA champion – Geoff Sisk (Marshfield, MA) – finished T6. Sisk is one of the most decorated Massachusetts Open Champions as he won this title in 1995, 1997, 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

It marks the fourth straight year that Aikens battled through a 36-hole sectional qualifier to advance to Championship Proper. Although USGA historical records cannot confirm that AIkens is the first to accomplish such a feat, odds are that he is in rarefied company. In February of 2013, the USGA announced the retirement of the U.S. Amateur Public Links and U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championships, following the completion of the 2014 competitions.

WHAT’S NEWS | JULY 2014 GCSANE Holds Turf Day at Blue Hill Country Club in Canton. MA By Elle Brec If everything man-made looked as gorgeous as golf courses what a wonderful world it would be. Golfers gain an appreciation of all things green with a unique perspective of natural beauty combined with knowledge, science and hard work. Grounds crews take the green thumb to an entirely new artistic level with the sophistication of technology and environmental practices. Recently The Golf Course Superintendents Association held an event at the Blue Hills Country Club in Canton, MA called Challenger Demo Day, where members of the grounds crews industry demonstration their latest products. Golf course infrastructure has deep roots in environmental practices as drainage pipes are carefully engineered to conserve water and protected land. In fact there are many golf courses that would pollute drinking water if they used herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and fertilizer. Golfers are drawn to the sanctity of the natural environment, even Republican golfers agree with this green movement. Sometimes all it takes to save water is changing the grass seed to a similar grass seed with longer roots. Typical grass seeds have roots about a foot in length but Black Beauty has four-foot roots, allowing them to reach lower for ground water, thus costing the golf course less in water, maintenance, and labor. Environmentally friendly organic nematodes microscopic organisms or different forms of
seaweed are used to attack grubs that eat the grass in replace of chemicals that can pollute water supply. There is turf mapping technology where a sample of the fairway and green can be tested to see exactly what natural element needs to be added whether is potassium, magnesium, or boron, while also determining the pH level. Rather than wasting time, labor, and nutrients giving the grass what it doesn’t need and possibly killing it creating more work, this more scientific system conserves nutrients. Technology that lowers long term costs includes Turf Weather produces pinpoint predictions of how much rain vs. sun each hole will get saving the crew from wasting time and money watering the green only for it to rain the next day. Unlike Mr. Gorman, I will not try to convince you that I know anything about the intricacies of golf course design. I am not an expert on agronomy, I know nothing about water tables and I only passed geometry in high school because the guy next to me wrote big and angled his paper in a manner that made it easy to see with peripheral vision. So if Tommy “Trent Jones” Gorman tries to impress you with architectural babble, know that he was on the phone with his architect buddies, picking their brains, because believe me, he has no more knowledge about what goes into building a golf course than I do. So now that we’ve set the groundwork and you understand that we have no idea what we’re talking about (gee what a revelation), our topic of discussion this month is “What makes a good (great?) golf course?” Unlike Gorman, who has probably run up his phone bill, calling up Ron Garl, Tom Fazio or Rees Jones for advice, I will attempt to convey what I look for and prefer in a golf course. Obviously it depends on where the course is built. If it abuts the ocean I want my course to be what it is supposed to be, a links course, with little in the way of trees, but with plenty of strategically placed bunkers that will gobble up wayward shots but will ignore well placed ones. The greens need to be firm but large and with different levels and enough reasonable places to cut cups as to give each hole multiple looks and thus make the player think each time they attack it. Overall I love greens that have different lev-
els but not those that look like somebody buried a herd of elephants there. Moguls belong on ski slopes, not greens. I am also not a big proponent of false fronts and sides (see Pinehurst #2). I believe that if you can hit your ball onto the green, with proper spin, it should stay there and not roll into the next county. For most of us hitting the green is an accomplishment, one that should be rewarded. I believe that all courses should provide multiple tee boxes to accommodate players of all levels. This makes the game as enjoyable for the person who can’t hit their driver more than 170 yards as is does for the Bubba Watsons of the world. I hate courses that require you to ride (not by the rules of the club but by the geography). My ideal course has the next tee box no more than 20 yards away from the green that was just played. I don’t want to have carry a passport to get from one hole to the next. Some architects love bunkers. Some love lakes. Golfers hate both, but they are necessary, both in terms of punishing wayward shots and also to frame holes and give them definition. Just don’t go nuts. It ruins the experience. My ideal course is a par 72, with four different par 5s, four different par 3s and the rest a variety of par 4s. I like a few doglegs thrown in. I hate courses where every hole seems to be just like the one you just played. A course that requires you to use every club in your bag more than once or twice is a good golf course. A course that requires more than bombing the drive 300 yards is a good golf course. For a good while many designers built courses that were monuments to themselves and did nothing for the game except cause people to quit. The old courses, built by Ross, Tillinghast, MacKenzie and Park are my favorites, but among the more modern courses I really enjoy playing a Garl, Jones, Fazio, Hills, Cornish or Silva track. Sit down, take a deep breath, and prepare to be surprised. R e a d y ? Okay. I’m going to say something nice about Tim Geary. The guy actually knows a thing or two about golf course designers and also what a golf course operator should offer to keep its customers happy. So be advised, at least for this edition, his column probably won’t contain the usual Geary drivel! In my golf-impaired world there are five magical words that define a good golf course: variety, grooming, price, hospitality and scenery. If a golf course is missing one of these foundations, then I rate the place for mediocrity, or worse, the dreaded do-not-play list. Let me add five more descriptions that bring a course from goodto-great: difficulty, greens, design, shot-making and memorability. Golfers (me included) love to complain about pace of play, lack of preferred tee times, weather, course conditions and greens fee but did you notice the negatives turn to positives when we play well. I can remember a few great rounds in my mostly forgettable golf career but none were on great golf courses. Another factor in considering good-to-great is history. Most courses with history tend to be well conditioned, but history can certainly make up for any lack in design and variety. Knowing that the greatest golfers to have played the game walked the same grounds you’re walking and remembering some of the greatest shots and
moments from the game’s history are awesome feelings. So what are my some of my favorite par 3 holes from popular public golf courses? I really like water and sand and island greens like No. 7 at Bay Pointe (Wareham). Reminds me of Myrtle Beach! I like the view from No. 9 at Bass River (Yarmouth) and the brutally tough, uphill 221-yard, 17th at Waverly Oaks (Plymouth). For my money there are no better backto-back par 4 holes than No. 10 and 11 at George Wright (Hyde Park). No. 9 is a straightaway 440-yarder and No. 10 is a sharp dogleg left measuring 449. Two pars in a row there will be a lifetime memory! When the Jones and Nicklaus courses opened at Pinehills (Plymouth) in 2002 the reviews were five-star, and it’s rare to hear a discouraging word about the golf experience there, even though the price is $100. My favorite municipal course is located on Long Island called Beth Page Black! Black has its faults, like lack of a finishing hole, but if your tee shot misses the fairway, the rough is thick and bunkers right and left make a difficult approach to a domed, uphill green. Two US Opens (2002 & ‘09) have been played there and the USGA slope is 148 with rating of 76.6, highest in the Northeast. Also, there is a warning sign on the first tee that reads: “The Black Course is an extremely difficult course which we recommend only for highly skilled golfers.” In sum, a good golf course is fun to play and will keep me coming back to play repeat rounds. And, make no mistake that a great golf course will punish me, humble me, embarrass me and bite me in the rear end, but it will never, ever make me quit! Tom Gorman, an unabashed, unapologetic hacker, can’t break 100 at Beth Page Black or similar tracks.
