Disappointing Ireland is Italy’s delight.

The Irish Rugby Team played their final game of the RBS 6 Nations on Saturday afternoon. It has been a frustrating tournament For Ireland missing a lot of key players in their setup. The likes of Paul O’ Connell, Tommy Bowe and Stephen Ferris were injured before the tournament even started and even more frustration was added when Simon Zebo, Gordon D’ arcy and Jonathon Sexton were injured during the tournament. The start of the game was very emotional for Italian prop Lo Cicero playing his final game for Italy and possibly for Brian O’ Driscoll who might retire before the next 6 Nations. Paddy Jackson put Ireland in the lead with his boot in the fifth minute. But a frustrating first half saw Brian O’ Driscoll sent to the bin for stamping on an Italian player and further injuries to Luke Marshall and Keith Earls. Saw Ireland 9-6 down at half time. Seven minutes into the second half Ireland were shocked by a converted try. Which meant the score line read 16-6. With thirty minutes to go Italy’s captain was penalized and sin binned for a trip on Ian Madigan. Paddy Jackson slotted the points. Finally Ireland found some rhythm and Jackson slotted over two penalties in thirteen minutes. But with ten minutes left saw Donnacha Ryan sent to the bin for an off the ball incident. Italy scored the three points and stretched their lead to four points. With less than a minute to go Connor Murray was also binned for an off the ball incident saw Ireland with thirteen men left on the field and seven points down at the end of the match. The final score Italy 22 Ireland 15. The match capped off one of the most disappointing 6 Nations Ireland have played in with only three points after five games played. But it could have been worse with France winning there final game against Scotland but not scoring enough points to climb above Ireland on the table. By Eimhin Conroy

THE REF My name is James Coonan. I am a 1st year student here at Newbridge College. Being in a school with a refectory – we call it the REF – was a real treat to a food lover like me. One of the first things I noticed when I went to the REF in school was that most of the food was not healthy! There was the healthy option of a normal meat, potato and vegetables dinner but most students were buying chips, hotdogs or a burger and their parents probably thought they were eating healthily. The reason why the unhealthy options sell well every day is that they are available and I believe the ref should supply healthy food everyday of the week with treats like ‘chippy Tuesday’ or ‘Saucy Friday’ but without these options every day of the week. We also have lots of water freely available all around the school and the number of vending machines selling sweets, crisps and high calorie drinks has been reduced to two in the entire school and they are only accessible at our main lunch break. Drinking water is far healthier than drinking coke or even Lucozade! To encourage children to eat healthily, there is now a raffle for a Coca Cola bicycle and to get a ticket you just buy something healthy. We live in a country where obesity is becoming a huge problem, especially for young people and this new ‘Healthy Eating’ Programme in Newbridge College will encourage everyone to think before they eat. In the coming months we hope to have the calorie count of all meals in the refectory displayed. Together with the wonderful sports programmes here in Newbridge College, I know that this new healthy eating programme will be a great success.

Newbridge College boasts a proud tradition of hosting an annual musical. Each year staff and students alike spend months of time and labour preparing, perfecting and presenting their efforts. The School Musical truly is a wonderful school event with input emerging from the whole school in all areas of the show including directing, music, producing, props, costume, art design, back stage and make up to name just a few. Students from 1st, 2nd, TY and 5th year are all eligible to audition for the show in early September with rehearsals commencing soon after. The Cast for each year’s show runs to 150 students approximately – which results in an absolute feast of colour and song for the eyes and ears. Our musical productions take place towards the end of November running for three nights and two matinees, playing to a full theatre. As a College we are very fortunate to have a magnificent theatre at our disposal which has recently laid stage to Oklahoma ’02, Grease ’03, Little Shop of Horrors ’04, Disco Inferno ’05, Fame ’06, High School Musical ’07 & The Totally Wicked Wizard of OZ '08, The Wedding Singer ’09 and in 2010, Grease was our school musical. Hairspray ’13 This year (13) we had Hairspray as our school musical. It's that time of year again and the students of Newbridge College are gearing up to present the Broadway hit musical 'Hairspray' for 5 shows in November. After several gruelling auditions the leads were chosen and since then they have been rehearsing day and night ready to impress. Emma-Jane Grant takes to the stage as Tracy Turnblad with Tom Higgins playing the role of Link Larkin - the heart throb of the show. Hugh O'Donnell takes on the daunting task of Edna, a role played by John Travolta on Broadway and we've no doubt that Hugh will put his own touch to the role. Daniella Traynor plays the lively role of Motormoth Maybelle working alongside Mark Sutton who is playing Corny Collins - the host of the classic tv show.

What’s Hot For 2013 By Heather Dignam Hair. For 2013, the top hairstylists forecast that the style for the upcoming spring/summer hairstyle will be, “the bun.” We are all familiar with this particular style as it is quick and easy to do.

Make-up The latest trend on the catwalks is blue. Although on the catwalks they use eyeliner to achieve this statement, eyeshadow can create a less striking version of this new trend.

Healthy Diet and Lifestyle Most teenagers these days are always inside on the computer or watching tv instead of being outside in the fresh air playing chasing etc. That’s why in Newbridge College it is a necessity to be be playing some kind of sport in first year be it hockey, rugby, basketball or badminton. You also have to have a healthy diet to maintain your healthy lifestyle. For example, if you’re an extremely fit and sporty person but eats unhealthy food all the time you do not have a healthy lifestyle. You also need to drink at least 8 cups of water per day to make sure you stay hydrated. Here are the recommended portions of the different food groups for teenagers:

Top Shelf foods are high in fat, sugar and salt, are not essential for your health and if they are taken too much they can be harmful but you need a very small amount to have a balanced diet. The foods and drinks on the bottom 4 shelves of the Food Pyramid are essential for a healthy balanced diet. Did You Know? One portion of anything is the size of your palm! Interesting is in it? AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY! (Keep that in mind guys!)
