A Note from the Editors‌ This magazine was made by everyone in 2A. I think you’ll find some very interesting articles, reviews and other cool stuff in the next few minutes. Personally, I liked the piece about Jerry because the article is quite funny, but it shows how dangerous mobile phone and the internet can really be. Of course, all of the other pieces are brilliant as well!

A lot of work went into this magazine and I hope you like it!

I will be giving my opinion on the Ireland v Scotland match. Ireland have proved a tough game for Scotland as in past matches they have put up a hard game. The last time Ireland played Scotland Ireland beat them 32-14. The game started off badly for Ireland as they were 6-0 down due to penalties given to Scotland. Later on in the game Rory Best came and scored a try for Ireland. Eoin Reddan, Andrew Trimble and Fergus McFadden also touched down to give Ireland a deserved six nations win over Scotland in Dublin. Ireland will be facing Scotland on Sunday this weekend, But Ireland have some serious injuries which could determine the match against Scotland. Johnaton Sexton was injured during the Ireland v England game last week, along with more injuries I feel Ireland will have a tough game this weekend.

Played - 127 Scotland Won - 64 Ireland Won - 57 Drawn - 5 Abandoned - 1

Ireland and Scotland played yesterday in Scotland. Ireland had eighty percent possession of the ball throughout the whole game and still managed to lose in the second half. Paddy Jackson was kicking for the Irish team, in total he scored one of four kicks in total. This was disappointing as Ireland were expecting a win.

Horse burger scandal

A total of 27 products were analysed, with ten of them containing horse DNA, while 23 of them tested positive for pig DNA. Horse meat accounted for approximately 29% of the meat content in one sample from Tesco. The FSAI said that the findings do not pose a risk to public health. However, it said that it raises concerns about the traceability of meat ingredients. Retailers have said they are now removing all implicated batches of the beef burgers. Minister for Agriculture Simon Coveney has told the IFA AGM that he is "very annoyed" at the discovery of horse meat in burgers. He said he learned about the FSAI survey results last night and had vets testing at the factory concerned since early this morning. Mr Coveney said the factory concerned was in Monaghan. He said he wanted to find out "how on earth" a test result of 29% horsemeat in a beef burger could come from a factory that does not slaughter horses or buy horsemeat. He said he hoped to have the results in about 48 hours. Mr Coveney said it looked like the source of the horsemeat came from additives that had been mostly imported from abroad, and added to beef to bulk up cheaper burgers at the low end of the market. To applause from the farmers present, Minister Coveney said he would "make damn sure" this never happened again. He said it was important to respond quickly and comprehensively to reassure people without delay. IFA President John Bryan expressed his surprise and concern at the results of the FSAI burgers survey. Mr Bryan said he welcomed the FSAI's assurance that there was no threat to humans from the consumption of these products. He said the mixed meat products certainly did not come from Irish farmers, adding that whatever had happened did not take place at farm level. Silvercrest suspects 'third party suppliers' A spokesperson for Silvercrest Foods said the company had never "purchased or traded in equine product".

8

He said: "[Silvercrest] has launched a full-scale investigation into two continental European third party suppliers who are the suspected source of the product in question." Tesco said that the brands affected in its stores are the Tesco Everyday Value brand and Flamehouse Chargrilled Quarter Pounders.

It said that it "will not tolerate any compromise in the quality of the food" it sells and is viewing the presence of horse meat in its beef products as "extremely serious". Aldi said it has removed the Oakhurst brand of beef burgers and customers can receive a refund if they purchased any of the products.

Liffey Meats 'has identified source' A spokesperson for Liffey Meats said the company believes it has identified the source of the contamination. The spokesperson said: "The source of the contamination is imported ingredients and these will be replaced from other sources before production is resumed and customers are supplied. "As confirmed by the FSAI the products concerned represent no risk to human health. In two of the three samples the levels as reported by the FSAI are so low as to be at the Limit of Quantification (LOQ) and for the other sample the level detected is reported as being less than 0.1%. "We sincerely regret that any product produced by the Company would not conform to the highest specifications and sincerely apologise to our customers."

NEWBRIDGE COLLEGE VS.CBC MONKSTOWN SENIOR CUP QUATER-FINAL

By Niall Stapleton The senior cup quarter final between Newbridge College and CBC Monkstown was to be played in donnybrook on the 18th of February 2013. Both teams were eager to play his match as it meant a place in the semi-final. As the teams set up for this big game CBC were to take the kick off. As the ref blew his whistle the game commenced with a knock on by Newbridge before conceded a penalty in the second minute as the no. 9 kicked for 3 points, CBC 3 Newbridge 0. As the first ten minutes went by many scrums and line outs had formed be for no.11 for Newbridge broke the CBC defence with a gain of 20 metres before the ball was passed out the wing before a knock on accorded on the CBC’s 22. In the 20 minute the CBC no.12 broke the Newbridge line to sail in for a try but due to the distance from the posts the conversion was unsuccessful. As time passed the ball was all over the pitch before CBC conceded a penalty before Newbridge kicked at goal, CBC 8 Newbridge 6. In the 47 minute CBC conceded another penalty before Newbridge kicked for goal. Sadly the kick was unsuccessful. As CBC desperately ran at the Newbridge defence they were no match as the game ended with a knock on by the CBC no. 10. The final score Newbridge 16 CBC 11. ONE DIRECTION!! One Direction is now one of the world’s best known British/Irish boybands. The boyband has five members, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik. The boys are taking the world by storm at the young ages between 21 and 19.

The boys were put together in 2010 on the British talent show ‘The XFactor.’ Each boy originally auditioned as solo artists but were not put through. As to not waste such good talent the judges put the boys together as a group at the all-important bootcamp. The boys made it all the way to the X-Factor final, but unfortunately didn’t win. They have done very well since the X-Factor and are now travelling the world on tour. Four of the boys live in England, but Niall Horan is a proud Irishman. The boys’ first album was called ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ it was an album full of pop, and happy songs. It was a very uplifting album. They

are now on their second album ‘Take Me Home’ it has a more grown up tone to it. They have also recorded a charity single ‘One Way Or Another’ for the red nose day charity.

They are just a group of normal hyper teenage boys. Always messing around and pulling pranks on each other and other famous friends. In their most recent video for ‘One Way Or Another’ David Cameron is featured.

The Adventures of

Sherlock Holmes My fascination with Sherlock Holmes began one fateful evening last summer. I was watching TV, flicking idly between stations when something caught my eye; the first ever BBC production of Sherlock. Although I had heard of them, I had never read the famous detective books by Arthur Conan Doyle. Maybe it was time to give his legendary work a chance. I remember the feeling after watching that first episode of Sherlock, A Study in Pink. I was enthralled. My head was buzzing and my heart was racing. I had discovered something new and exciting. It was not until October, that I bought the book The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Everything about it promised more of the baffling mysteries, intrigue, and heart stopping crimes that had appealed to me in the television series. The book did not disappoint and I savoured every story. My favourites were A Scandal in

Bohemia and The Adventures of the Speckled Band. Sherlock Holmes is a detective, a cold, arrogant but mesmerising genius. His extremely accurate theories and remarkable observations make him the best in the business. Once you enter the world of Holmes and his able assistant John Watson you will go on an incredible adventure full of murder and mystery. So join me and the new generation of Sherlock Holmes fans and read the books today!

Review Ruth O’Hara here, one of the girls in 2A. I was asked to write a review of our magazine, probably because I am a dabbler in many aspects of our class make-up; sport, music, debating...oh and homework! So a fair representative! Good points: Diversity, both a newsy and entertaining magazine with lots of colourful pictures starting with the stately cover photo! It provides a great glimpse into year 2 Newbridge College. Bad points: A great read but short. I only wished there was more. How

about for future magazines each student provides two articles (i.e. one newsy one comical.) General comment: A great window into the characters that make up class 2A - yes certainly a class A magazine.
