THE NEW GENERATION AND VAPING
How did vaping become the new trend?
Vaping
For the following reasons, vaping may be harmful: Nicotine, which is known to inhibit the growth of a child's, adolescent's, and fetus' brains, can be found in high concentrations in e-cigarettes. Adults and kids should avoid swallowing, inhaling, or coming into contact with the vapor-producing liquid. Dangerous substances including diacetyl, ones that cause cancer, heavy metals, and volatile organic compounds are also delivered by vaping (VOCs).
As vaping gains popularity, smoking may once again become mainstream. By the beginning of 2020, there had been over 2,800 hospitalizations or deaths overall, 68 of which were confirmed to be related to vaping, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The CDC does recognize that fewer patients now have vaping-related symptoms after harmful ingredients like vitamin E acetate were eliminated from vaping products.
Smoking
Contrary to vaping, which is relatively new, allegations that smoking is harmful to human health are thoroughly supported by years of research. Smoking damages every organ in the body and results in more than 480,000 deaths annually in the United States, according to the CDC. About 80% of deaths from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), 90% of all lung cancer deaths, and an elevated risk of death and health disorders like heart disease and stroke
This is a serious public health issue because three million adolescents "vape" and use e-cigarettes. Make sure to discuss the risks of vaping for your health with your children. Encourage them to stop smoking e-cigarettes if you see them doing so. They may appear fun and innocent, but they're sneaky nicotine products.
Final thoughts
Smoking and vaping both have harmful effects on the body, such as lung damage and an increased risk of cancer. The long-term impacts of smoking are better understood by researchers than the effects of vaping. However, compared to cigarettes, vaping devices have significantly fewer dangerous ingredients and can help people stop smoking for good. Vape goods can lessen the amount of tar and other toxins that a person inhales, but they can also make a person more addicted to nicotine.
THE HEALTH DIARIES
WHY DO WE LOVE CHOCOLATE SO MUCH? AND IS IT HEALTHY FOR YOU IN MODERATION?
It's one of the most well-known sweets ever. Men hoard it, women obsess over it, and it was supposedly first consumed by Aztec kings. Why do we love chocolate so much? Here are a few of the reasons why chocolate is so popular and why, even if you're on a diet, you shouldn't fully give it up!
It should come as no surprise that chocolate includes fat. Chocolate has a thick, creamy smoothness that precisely conveys the flavor of the cocoa thanks to the cocoa butter. Additionally, it has a melting point that is slightly lower than the typical body temperature, giving every piece of chocolate you eat that melt-in-your-mouth sensation. People who enjoy chocolate frequently describe this melting sensation as pure bliss.
A study conducted at the University of Michigan in the United States found that chocolate contains substances known as opioids. Opioids are also included in opium, and when ingested, they reduce pain and make people feel good. The study found that eating chocolate causes people to naturally manufacture opiates in their brains that calm their nerves and make them feel good. That hunger for chocolate diminished when the opioid receptors were suppressed.
Tea was once thought to be the main source of these compounds. Now, in order to give your body more of those compounds that extend life, doctors advise that you combine your tea with a chocolate cookie or biscuit. However, avoid drinking milk along with your dark chocolate since, according to the same studies, milk might negate the beneficial effects of chocolate by preventing those beneficial compounds from being properly absorbed in the body.
Is chocolate healthy for you in
It's crucial to keep in mind not to consume too much chocolate. It does include a lot of sugar and saturated fats, which if consumed in excess can lead to obesity and other health problems. But chocolate can be a miraculous food when used in moderation. And to top it off, it tastes fantastic It's difficult to find someone who doesn't enjoy chocolate of some form, whether it's Hershey or Belgian, white, dark, or milk. Therefore, the next time you need to start a new diet or give something up for Lent, think twice before giving up chocolate. It is delicious on top of that you have a good reason to keep eating it because of its health benefits.
Negatives of chocolate
● Includes high levels of sugar
● Includes high levels of fats
● High in calories
● Excessive consumption may result in obesity
● It is detrimental to our health in excess amounts.
● Chocolate addiction may occur in people
● Some chocolates have a lot of caffeine in them
● Some chocolates are far less healthy than others
● You might have trouble falling asleep.
● May be harmful to your teeth
● Farmer exploitation of cocoa should be considered
There are a number of benefits and drawbacks to chocolate, as we have previously observed. While consuming chocolate in moderation might be good for our health, overindulging can be detrimental. In order to prevent long-term health problems, be cautious to consume chocolate in moderation.

WHAT IS POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION?
A type of depression known as postpartum or perinatal depression happens after a baby is born. Up to 1 in 7 new mothers may experience this very common but dangerous medical issue after giving birth. You may experience empty, cold, and depressing feelings after giving birth. Long after birth, it may still result in mood swings, tiredness, and a general feeling of pessimism.
Postpartum depression should not be taken lightly. Although it's a serious illness, people can overcome it with the aid of a number of therapy options. You need to be aware that you're not the only person going through postpartum depression and that you can get better.
Symptoms of postpartum depression
Within a few days of giving birth, a lot of people experience "baby blues," or feelings of sadness, emptiness, moodiness, or exhaustion. However, postpartum depression can last for weeks after giving delivery, going much beyond that. You may experience severe symptoms that limit your ability to perform daily tasks.
Postpartum depression symptoms can differ from person to person and day to day. Although symptoms can appear at any time following childbirth, they frequently appear between one and three weeks after birth.
You might feel estranged from your child if you have postpartum depression. You can think that you don't care for your child. You are not to blame for these feelings. Additional indications according to several reliable sources for postpartum depression include:
● Feeling depressed or crying a lot and feeling overwhelmed
● Having thoughts of harming the child or yourself
● Not being interested in the child and having no energy or motivation
● Feeling worthless, guilty, or like a bad parent
● Sleeping excessively
● Feeling anxious
● Having persistent headaches, aches, pains, or stomach issues
Causes of postpartum depression and its risk factors
Although its specific cause is unknown, postpartum depression may be influenced by a number of circumstances. Physical changes and mental factors may combine to cause postpartum depression episodes.
Physical factors
Your progesterone and estrogen levels are higher than typical while you are pregnant. Hormone levels return to normal within hours after delivery. This sudden transition might contribute to postpartum depression's emergence. Other physical factors that could play a role in postpartum depression development include:
● Low levels of thyroid hormone
● Medications that cause sleep deprivation
● Abuse of drugs and alcohol
Emotional factors
According to research, having stressful situations while pregnant dramatically increases the risk of postpartum depression. Some examples of emotional stressors are:
● Financial hardship
● Recent divorce
● Loss of a loved one
Postpartum psychosis: What is it?
Postpartum psychosis is the most severe type of postpartum depression. Postpartum psychosis is rare and affects 1-2 in every 1,000 women.Although cases have happened up to six months after delivery, it often appears unexpectedly a few weeks after birth.
Restlessness, irritability, and sleeplessness are the initial signs of postpartum psychosis. Delusions and hallucinations, in which you see unreal sounds, sights, or smells, are also frequent. The possibility of intentionally or accidentally injuring yourself or your child when experiencing postpartum psychosis exists.
Prevention of postpartum depression
Postpartum depression is a common condition that may not completely be prevented. However, being aware of the symptoms of postpartum depression may help you treat the condition and receive care more quickly if necessary.
Several therapies, such as the use of specific antidepressants and nutrients during and immediately after pregnancy, according to a dependable source, may lower your chance of suffering from severe postpartum depression.
Additionally, those who are more likely to experience postpartum depression may benefit from engaging in interpersonal therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy both during and after pregnancy. Additionally, you might be able to lower the risk of experiencing postpartum depression by:
● Establishing a network of friends and family before the birth of your child
● by enrolling in prenatal and postnatal education classes
● Arranging for childcare so you can take a break,
● maintaining a healthy diet, making an effort to exercise and get some fresh air each day,
● getting enough sleep and rest overall,
● and either limiting or eliminating alcohol use.
In order to explore treatment options and take care of your physical problems, you should get in touch with a healthcare provider as soon as you notice any postpartum depression symptoms. In order to assist you in navigating the postpartum time and your diagnosis, they can also suggest a therapist or other nearby resources.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ACNE
Due to its prevalence, acne is regarded as a typical aspect of puberty. But even knowing that sometimes doesn't help, especially if you have a big pimple on your face. What exactly is acne, and how can it be treated?
What is acne?
Blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, and cysts are some of the numerous forms of bumps that acne, a skin disorder, can present as. The hormone changes associated with puberty are the cause of acne in teenagers. It's more likely that you will get acne if your parents did when they were teenagers.
Nevertheless, by the time most people are out of their teens, their acne has virtually completely vanished. Acne vulgaris is the prevalent form of acne that many teenagers experience ("vulgaris" means "of the common type"). Typically, the face, neck, shoulders, upper back, and chest are affected.
Who is affected?
● Younger people and teenagers frequently suffer from acne. Acne affects 80% of persons between the ages of 11 and 30.
● Ages 14 to 17 for girls and 16 to 19 for boys are when acne is most prevalent.
● Most people struggle with acne intermittently for years before their symptoms start to get better as they age. When a person is in their mid-twenties, acne frequently goes away.
● Acne can sometimes persist until adulthood. Over the age of 25, acne affects 5% of women and 1% of males.
Why do we get acne even after our teenage years?
Sebaceous glands are located in the skin's pores, or hair follicles (also called oil glands). Sebum (SEE-bem), an oil produced by these glands, lubricates your skin, hair, and nails. The amount of sebum produced by the sebaceous glands is usually ideal. But as the body grows older and develops, hormones encourage the sebaceous glands to produce more sebum.
If there is an excessive amount of sebum and dead skin cells, pores might clog.
This allows bacteria to become trapped and grow inside the pores, particularly Propionibacterium acnes. Acne then develops as a result of this swelling and redness:
● A whitehead is a pore that constricts, shuts, and protrudes from the skin.
● A blackhead is an open pore that clogs up but doesn't close, and it has a darker top surface.
● A pimple is a tiny red lump that develops when the wall of a pore opens and allows oil, germs, and dead skin cells to enter the skin. The body's response to the bacterial infection sometimes causes pimples to have a top packed with pus.
● Nodules can result from a clogged pore that opens up extremely deeply in the skin. These painful infected lumps or cysts are larger than zits. Rarely, big cysts that acne could actually be boils brought on by a staph infection.
WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE? AND WHAT ARE ITS BENEFITS?
During acupuncture, very small needles are inserted into the body at various depths and locations. It seeks to harmonize the Qi, or life energy, in charge of various health problems. A number of different ailments can be treated with acupuncture, including pain relief. Its precise mechanism is yet unknown, though. While some individuals think it balances vital energy, others believe it has a neurological impact.
What is acupuncture?
In order to activate sensory nerves in the skin and muscles, acupuncture entails putting needles into the body. This might aid in the treatment of physical disorders like chronic pain. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is where acupuncture originated, and it is today a widely used supplemental therapy.
Science behind acupuncture
The life energy known as Qi, pronounced "chi," is said to have a harmonious balance between the complementary extremes of yin and yang. Advocates contend that an imbalance of these forces leads to sickness.
TCM holds that the body's meridians, or energy lines, are where Qi moves. There are 361 acupuncture points on the body that can be used to access these meridians and energy flows. It is possible to restore the balance of the energy flow by inserting needles into these points in the right combinations.
Several acupuncture points may be in locations where stimulation can influence the activity of numerous sensory neurons, according to a 2017 review. Receptive fields are another name for these locations. The physical stimulation of inserting needles at specific places may alter how the central nervous system and muscles process pain while also increasing blood flow to specific body regions.
According to a 2018 study on acupuncture's impact on chronic pain, the treatment can offer pain alleviation effects that are different from placebo. However, it is unclear how acupuncture actually functions.
Historical background of acupuncture
Acupuncture first appeared in China. Although there are references dating back to around 6000 BC, the practice likely occurred even earlier. It is believed that the early practice of lancing boils and abscesses with sharpened stones and bones evolved into a more therapeutic and preventative idea that embraced a philosophy of "life forces."
The principle of acupuncture could be applied further thanks to the evolution of instruments, or technological advancements and discoveries that made thinner and stronger needles possible.
The theory of energy flow, which is the foundation of contemporary acupuncture, took longer to develop. Documents from 198 BC discovered in Chinese sealed tombs show that acupuncture practice was widespread, albeit it may not have been yet related to a meridian system.
Modern uses of acupuncture
According to the NCCIH, acupuncture can be an effective therapy option for:
● A lower backache
● A stiff neck
● Osteoarthritis (OA)
● Headache
● Knee pain
Other research suggests that acupuncture can help with the following conditions:
● Migraine
● Peripheral neuropathy
● Tiredness
● Tendinopathy
● Rheumatoid
● Arthritis
● Nausea
A doctor's suggested therapies should still be used in addition to acupuncture because it is a supplementary therapy. A person should consult a primary care physician before getting acupuncture to alleviate chronic pain or other problems. Acupuncturists themselves may be primary care doctors.

Long-term sickness leaving 1.6m UK adults over 50 unable to work
Let me introduce you to something truly horrifying - the fungus that turns its victims into zombies.
Its spores enter the body. The fungus then grows and begins to hijack the mind of its host until it loses control and is compelled to climb to higher ground.
The parasitic fungus devours its victim from the inside, extracting every last nutrient, as it prepares for its big finale. Then - in a scene more disturbing than the scariest horror film - a tendril of death erupts from the head. This fruiting body of the fungus showers spores on everything around it - dooming others to the same zombie fate.

HOW DOES BEING STRESSED AFFECT YOUR SKIN?
Recent studies have demonstrated that your skin is capable of sensing stress and reacting to it. Your skin, the greatest organ in your body, and psychological wellness may both suffer from stressful days.
The balance between your internal tissues and the outer environment is maintained in part by your skin. The control of body temperature, defense, sensory perception, and hydration balance is included in this. Some of the hormonal changes that have an impact on your skin are anxiety, worry, grief, and pain. Skin, nails, and hair will all take on a stressed aspect.
Your skin and brain are in close proximity. A reserve of the skin is the sense of touch, which is crucial for survival. Therefore, maintaining healthy skin and brain function is necessary for living life to the fullest.
Your immune system responds to perceived or actual dangers during stressful events by releasing the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline. In an effort to adapt to the shift, your body's reaction to stressors causes inflammation in the brain. This internal inflammatory response might result in outward skin issues when your body is continuously under stress.
Effects of stress on your skin
Numerous studies have shown that stress can harm the condition of your skin. Among the ways stress might impact your skin are:
Stress aggravates skin conditions and diseases
Stress can make skin conditions including eczema, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and acne worse. When you're under stress, your internal inflammations reappear and manifest externally. The condition, as well as the look and feel of your skin, can get worse under more stress.
Thinned nails
Stressful times have an impact on nails. They thin out, shrivel up, peel, break, and grow slowly.
External bursting
The skin produces more oil when cortisol is released in response to stress, which can clog pores and result in acne. Rashes and hives, which result in red and irritated sores, are brought on by changes in hormone levels.
Skin drying out
Your cortisol and adrenaline levels increase as a result of stress, and you start to perspire. Hyaluronic acid's capacity to hold water and prevent the skin from drying out is interfered with by cortisol. The sweat glands are triggered, which causes the body to rapidly shed water through the skin.
But if you don't get enough water, your body becomes dehydrated and your skin dries out.
Hair fall
Stress can lead to telogen effluvium, a disorder that results in hair loss and thinning. Your hair may become fragile and fall out for a brief period of time, leaving your scalp scaly.
Untimely ageing
Your skin might age prematurely if stress is not well managed. You can seem fatigued, have a pale complexion, lose skin suppleness, and get creases and wrinkles.
Stress may prevent wounds from healing
If you worry about a wound healing, post-traumatic stress disorder may develop. Cortisol and catecholamine are released in excess during times of stress, which slows the healing of wounds. The immune system may be affected by this process, which also causes the delayed cell development needed for quick healing.
Keeping your skin free from stress
Anxiety frequently results in stress, therefore you might need help taking care of yourself and your skin. You need to make good decisions that will help you better your overall skin health if you want to give your skin a new start.
Hydrate
Drink enough water to keep your body hydrated and your skin soft. Staying hydrated will help you avoid developing creases, wrinkles, and other signs of early ageing. By flushing pollutants from your body, water maintains the health of your skin.
Find skin care
Consult a dermatologist if your skin is greasy and prone to pimples. The specialist may suggest drugs to clear clogged pores and lessen skin oil production.
Take steps to lessen your stress.
Make sure to relax every day, and try to keep up with your friends' social lives. Regularly engage in physical activity, take a stroll, or purchase something to take your mind off your worries. Establish a sleep schedule, go to bed without using any lights, and get up at the same time every day.
