Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental illness characterized by recurrent thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). They obstruct your life, yet you have no power to stop or control them.

Causes of OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) has no known cause. Your environment, genetics, and the biology and chemistry of your brain could all be contributing factors.

Risk factors for OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) typically manifests in adolescence or early adulthood. OCD frequently manifests in boys earlier than in girls.

● Family background: A larger risk exists for those who have a first-degree family with OCD, such as a parent, sibling, or kid. This is particularly valid if the relative experienced OCD as a young kid or adolescent.

● Brain structure and function: According to imaging studies, the brains of OCD sufferers differ in a few specific areas. To fully understand how the changes in the brain are related to OCD, more research is required.

Childhood trauma: Child abuse is one type of childhood trauma. OCD and childhood trauma have been linked in certain research. To properly comprehend this link, more study is required.

In certain instances, children who have had a streptococcal infection may go on to develop OCD or symptoms of OCD.

Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections is the name of this condition (PANDAS).

Symptoms of OCD

Obsessional symptoms, compulsive symptoms, or both may be present in OCD patients:

Obsessions are anxious-inducing, recurrent thoughts, desires, or mental images. They could

Sensitivity to contamination or germs

Anxiety about misplacing or losing something

Anxiety about potential harm to oneself or others

Unwanted ideas regarding sex or religion that are forbidden

Aggressive ideas about oneself or other people requiring everything to be perfectly aligned or arranged in a specific, precise manner

obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) can occasionally be challenging. Its signs are similar to those of other mental illnesses, like anxiety disorders. It is also possible to suffer from OCD in addition to other mental OCD is not always present in people with obsessions or compulsions. When you:

Can't control your thoughts or activities, even when you are aware that they are excessive Spend at least one hour each day thinking about these ideas or behaviors Don't enjoy yourself while engaging in the behaviors. But by performing them, you can momentarily feel less anxious as a result of your ideas. Having substantial issues with these beliefs or actions in your day-to-day life.

Treatments for OCD

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is mostly treated with medication, cognitive behavioral therapy, or both:

Cognitive behavioral therapy

One kind of psychotherapy is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). It teaches you many approaches to thinking, acting, and responding to compulsions and obsessions. Exposure and Response Prevention (EX/RP) is a specialized form of CBT that can be used to treat OCD. EX/RP gradually exposes you to your obsessions or phobias. You develop wholesome coping mechanisms for the distress they generate.

Medicines:

Some antidepressants are included in OCD medications. Your doctor might advise using another kind of mental medication if those don't help you.

Final thoughts

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health issue, and this must be kept in mind. As with all mental health issues, receiving assistance as soon as symptoms start to show helps lessen the impact on your life. You can manage your obsessions and compulsions with the support of treatment plans that medical doctors and mental health specialists can provide.

UNCOMMON

ALLERGIES: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Pollen, mold, food, and pet allergies are probably all too familiar to you. It's possible that you, a friend, or a member of your family have previously had allergic responses to certain allergens. However, are you aware of those who experience allergic reactions to exercise, leather, or water? Yes, we are aware that this seems strange, but there are uncommon allergies.

Six unusual allergies that you might not have known about have been gathered by us. We'll go over the top six rare allergens in-depth, as well as management advice. So let's go right to it and begin our discussion.

What is an Allergy?

An allergy is the result of your body's immune system attacking healthy proteins and mistreating them as dangerous substances. According to studies, there are 17 million people and 7 million children in the United States who are allergic.

The severity of allergy symptoms can vary from minor to moderate and frequently depends on the individual. Some people might develop a skin rash, sneeze, or have watery eyes. Others, however, might experience severe responses including anaphylaxis or breathing difficulties.

Allergies are frequently brought on by pollens, molds, foods, or pets. Seasonal allergy sufferers frequently encounter symptoms in the spring or summer. However, strange causes like water, exercise, etc. can also cause allergies. Here is our top six list:

1. Water

What allergy is the rarest? Water is the answer. For human survival, water is crucial. Water can, however, cause adverse reactions in certain people, including itching and hives. This rash is an example of aquagenic urticaria. It primarily affects females. Regardless of the temperature, hives and itching appear nearly quickly after skin and water contact. Aquagenic urticaria signs and symptoms usually disappear after 15 minutes. The effects are also lessened by over-the-counter medicines such an antihistamine.

2. Shoes

After wearing leather shoes, some persons may develop a rash on their feet that resembles poison ivy. It happens as a result of the chemicals employed in the tanning process of the shoes. Your best chance is to stay away from leather shoes. To avoid skin contact, put on a pair of thick socks if you prefer leather. Antihistamines also help to treat the symptoms.

Some people are unable to endure prolonged sun exposure. It results from a condition known as solar urticaria, an allergic reaction. Hives, stinging, and itching are symptoms of this kind of skin disorder. Even when the symptoms progressively go away, they are still uncomfortable. Within 30 minutes of direct sun exposure, the symptoms start to show. It works by avoiding exposure to direct sunlight. Antihistamines also function, although they have little effect on symptom prevention.

When a patient has hives in response to vibrations against their skin, which trigger an immunological reaction, this condition is known as vibratory urticaria. Running or a bumpy trip in a car are just two examples of triggers. Despite the rarity of this illness, researchers believe that there is a genetic

The immune system may even respond to the body's own hormonal fluctuations. According to studies, some women develop asthmatic episodes and dermatitis due to allergy symptoms that coincide with their menstrual periods. There is evidence that the hormones progesterone and oestrogen cause antibodies to develop specifically

Dreams have always been a little bit enigmatic in our life. No matter how imaginative, brain-driven hallucinations can feel genuine and cause a variety of feelings, from melancholy to panic. And the idea of lucid dreaming raises things to a new level.

The concept of lucid dreaming entails realizing that your dream is just that—a dream—and not reality. For some people, it also involves the power to alter the "plot" of your dream as it develops.

What are lucid dreams?

Lucid dreams occur when you are asleep yet are aware that you are dreaming. You are conscious of the fact that the events racing through your head are unreal. However, the dream seems vivid and genuine.

As if you were directing a movie while you slept, you could even be able to direct how the action takes place. According to studies, around half of all adults may have experienced at least one lucid dream. However, they most likely only occur a few times a year on average.

How do they happen?

The most frequent lucid dreams occur during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, a stage of extremely deep sleep characterized by eye movement, faster breathing, and increased brain activity.

Approximately 90 minutes after falling asleep, you typically enter REM sleep. About 10 minutes pass during it. Every REM cycle you go through while sleeping gets longer and longer until it lasts up to an Benefits

of lucid dreams

Your lucid dreams may enhance your waking life in the following ways:

Lower anxiety: A lucid dream might give you a sensation of control that may linger with you and give you a sense of empowerment. You can control the plot and the resolution while you are conscious that you are dreaming. That could help those who experience nightmares by teaching them how to manage their

Improved motor skills: Limited research suggests that by "practicing" during your lucid dream, you may be able to improve simple skills like tapping your fingers more swiftly. Regardless of whether you visualize the actions while awake or perform them while having a lucid dream, the same area of your brain becomes More effective problem-solving: Researchers discovered some evidence that suggests lucid dreams may aid people in solving issues more creatively than logically, such as conflicts with others (such as a math

More creativity: Some individuals in lucid dream studies were able to generate original thoughts or insights, occasionally with the aid of dream figures.

Dangers from lucid dreams

Additionally problematic effects of lucid dreaming include:

Lower-quality sleep: You may wake up from vivid dreams and find it difficult to get back asleep. And if you are too concentrated on lucid dreaming, you can have trouble falling asleep.

Hallucinations, delirium, and confusion: Lucid dreams may cause confusion between what is real and what is imagined in people with certain mental health conditions.

Final thoughts

The phenomenon of dreaming while being conscious of your dreams is known as lucid dreaming. People use lucid dreaming for a variety of purposes, such as mental exercise or as a potential therapy for nightmares.

There are various risk-free methods to attempt when learning how to lucid dream, such as keeping a journal and setting up a reality-testing system. However, you should stay away from lucid dreaming practices that disrupt sleep and involve medications or supplements. The unique phenomena of lucid dreaming have therapeutic potential.

The symptoms of asthma, a long-term inflammatory condition of the airways, include wheezing, coughing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. The bronchial tubes become inflamed and constricted as a result of asthma, which restricts airflow and makes breathing difficult. Our lungs' airways are covered in muscles and have mucus glands. However, if you have asthma, these typically relaxed muscles are frequently irritated and inflamed.

When individuals with asthma are exposed to triggers, these muscles respond by becoming even tighter, the lining of the airways swells, and the airways may become mucus-filled. Breathing becomes extremely challenging as a result, which triggers asthma symptoms or asthma exacerbation, often known as an asthma attack. Asthma does not yet have a cure, but it can be treated with the right care.

Symptoms of Asthma

Everyone's experience with asthma may be unique. Asthma symptoms might change over time and may even go away when the condition is under good control. The following are typical warning signs and symptoms poorly managed asthma:

● Breathing difficulty

● Routine coughing

● Wheezing

● Chest tightness

● Increased production of mucous

● Sleep issues brought on by breathing issues

● Being unable to engage in strenuous activity without experiencing respiratory issues

These symptoms can develop gradually over a period of hours or days or suddenly during repeated attacks, following which the symptoms may last for a while before going away. Get your asthma under control and continue treating it over the long term since untreated asthma can lead to "airway remodeling," which are irreversible structural changes in your airways.

Causes of Asthma

There is still no known cause for asthma, according to research. Researchers have identified a number of risk factors, though, that can trigger the development of

Family history and genetics

Asthma is three times more likely to strike children of asthmatic moms, and it is 2.5 times more likely to strike children of asthmatic fathers. Asthma has been associated with more than 30 genes, as well as gene-gene interactions, gene-environment interactions, and epigenetic changes. Factors in response to treatment are also influenced by genetic differences.

Certain allergens, such as those that might damage the eyes and nose, increase a person's risk of developing asthma. But not everyone with allergies will develop asthma, and not everyone with asthma will be impacted by allergies. Immunoglobulin E (IgE), an antibody that the immune system makes in reaction to allergens, is linked to respiratory allergies and some types of asthma. The IgE triggers allergic reactions that can harm the eyes, nose, throat, lungs, and skin in an effort to defend

Premature birth

The likelihood that a child may get asthma in later life increases if they are born before 37 weeks.

Lung diseases

Having some lung infections as infants or young children may put them at risk for getting asthma later in life.

Occupational exposures

In the workplace, asthma can be brought on by more than 200 chemicals, including gases, dust particles, chemical fumes, and vapors. This type of asthma also referred to as occupational asthma, is a common reason why people get asthma as adults.

Obesity

The lungs could be compressed by extra weight around the chest, making it harder to breathe in.

Inflammatory compounds produced by fat tissue may have an impact on the lungs and worsen asthma.

Treatment of Asthma

There are methods you can use to control your asthma. To control symptoms, your doctor may recommend medications. These consist of:

● These medicines, known as bronchodilators, ease the muscles that surround your airways. The airways could move since the muscles were loosened. They also make it easier for mucus to pass through the airways. These medications are used to treat both intermittent and chronic asthma and provide temporary symptom relief.

● Anti-inflammatory medicines: These drugs lessen airway edema and mucus production. They facilitate the flow of air into and out of your lungs. To manage or avoid your persistent asthma symptoms, your doctor may prescribe them for daily use.

● When symptoms of severe asthma persist after adequate inhaler medication, biological medicines are employed.

Asthma medications can be taken in a variety of ways. Using a nebulizer, metered-dose inhaler, or another type of asthma inhaler, you can breathe in the medications. You can be given oral drugs to swallow by your doctor.

“My weight always was about the same even after having children. I think going through chemo-induced menopause in overdrive at 40, weight just piled on and it was impossible to lose,” Lewis said.

She said treatment changed her body chemistry and that the foods she used to eat her entire life became less tolerated and impacted her weight.

MYERS BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR

MBTI stands for Myers- Briggs Type indicator.

This theory was created by Swiss Psychiatrist Carl Jung in 1920. Jung studied how each individual behaves and interacts in different social situations according to their personality traits. Katherine Cooks -Briggs and her daughter Isabel Briggs Myers, were impressed by the work of Carl Jung, so they created the MYER-BRIGGS TYPE INDICATOR in 1962.

The MBTI was designed to improve people's productivity in accordance with their own personality.

Individuals are divided into 2 groups according to the way they receive and direct their energies:

Directing and receiving energy.

1. Extroversion: people who have an extrovert personality receive their energy when they are around people. They are friendly and spontaneous. An extrovert person thinks out loud.

For example, while sending a message on WhatsApp they use the voice message instead of writing.

2. Introversion: people with an introvert personality recharge their batteries by themselves. They gain their energy alone.

People have different ways of acquiring information regarding their personality traits depending on how they perceive and analyze things around them, by using their senses and intuitions.

: people who grasp information through their 5 senses, are creative and realistic, they are conscious in the here and individuals that have a sense of intuition follow facts, and they are well structured. They are detail oriented in filtering information.

: people who favor thinking and analyzing are more logical in how they receive the information around them. They take decisions using their analytical and problem-

: Sensitive people rely on their feelings when analyzing information, making judgments in various situations and making decisions in general. These individuals have an emotional perception of the outside world, meaning that they are compassionate, have empathy and are well aware of people’s individuality.

: people with a sense of judging the outside world have a totally different way of interacting and digesting information. They are more organized in their decision making. They implement a scheme and follow it. For instance, such people get irritated and stress out when plans are changed at the last minute.

people with a perceiving personality interact with the outside world in a different way by being spontaneous and nonchalant.

The idea that underpins a person's comprehension of emotions is called emotional literacy. The ability to recognize and categorize our own and other people's feelings is at the core of it. Additionally, healthy emotional coping and expression are included in emotional literacy. Psychotherapist Claude Steiner is said to have first used the word. Emotional literacy, according to him, is "the capacity to comprehend your own feelings, the capacity to listen to others and comprehend their emotions, and the capacity to convey emotions effectively."

He postulated five components of emotional literacy:

● Recognizing your emotions

● The capacity for empathy

● Developing emotional control

● Addressing emotional issues

● Interactivity in emotions

He also thought that it was essential for the development of healthy relationships, improved problem-solving skills, and an overall higher standard of living. Although we tend to talk about emotional literacy in terms of kids, it is crucial for people of all ages.

It is significant to highlight that emotional literacy and emotional intelligence are frequently used interchangeably, or at the very least, they overlap significantly. Although the term "emotional intelligence" may be used in a more general sense, it is made up of the three essential components of emotional literacy: self-awareness, self-regulation, and empathy.

It is probably true to claim that emotional literacy is a component of emotional intelligence and that emotional literacy benefits from emotional intelligence.

Importance of having emotional literacy

You must consider the function that emotional knowledge and regulation play in many areas of our life in order to properly assess the significance of emotional literacy. You can't fully comprehend your sentiments or exert control over your conduct if you can't name the emotions you're feeling.

You are more prone to become frustrated, feel perplexed, and use bad language. This results in increased impulsivity, destructive conduct, and a lack of ability to self-soothe.

A lack of frustration tolerance and difficulty with anger control may result from emotional literacy issues. Also, emotional upheaval makes it difficult to focus on your work or school obligations, which hinders your achievement. What transpires when you experience less success? You act out and get angry. That is a vicious cycle.

The impact of emotional literacy on interpersonal interactions may be the most significant. It enables you to recognize and respond to other people's emotions with accuracy. As a result, you will engage in fewer arguments and are more likely to be well-liked and make friends. Furthermore, being able to "read the room" gives you a significant advantage in social and professional settings.

The growth of empathy is directly tied to emotional literacy. All interpersonal interactions require an understanding of what the other person might be feeling. Also, those who have empathy get along with others better and are thought of favorably.

You are significantly disadvantaged in life if you are unable to recognize and comprehend emotions. The statement that those who have emotional literacy will be happier and more stable than those who lack emotional literacy is not hyperbole.

Challenges in the development of emotional literacy

We only have the ability to read emotions. It must be built over the course of our life. But, if it does not appear while we are young, as with many elements of growth, there is a chance that it may never sufficiently develop. The development of a child's emotional literacy is therefore so important. Sadly, a number of things could stand in the way of its development.
