International Interdisciplinary Workshop for
Urban Re-Activation Milan
24-30
June
The New Farms for Expo project aims at developing a toolbox for the reuse - whether durable or temporary of vacant buildings in industrialized cities, mainly Milan: by doing so, it focuses its efforts on strategies which enable both municipal public and private stakeholders to enhance such reactivation processes. New Farms for Expo focuses on vacant municipal farmhouses, and deals with two intertwining topics: the agricultural heritage of the territory of Milan on the one hand, and the contemporary issues related to the agricultural production, food security and metabolism of European cities on the other. wednesday 24 June

During the workshop, New Farms for EXPO presents a series of “side-activities” to improve the work of every group of investigation. SIDE-EVENTS: three side-events will be hosted by the Board of Architects of Milan. These events will be open to the public and wil see the participation of more than 20 experts from about 10 countries.
CLOSE-DOORS LECTURES: every “pair” of mentors will give a special lecture regarding their
works. Every lecture shall last 60 minutes (30 minutes for each tutor).
Multi-Disciplinary confrontations: twice during the workshop each group will share its work with the other teams, through 10-minute presentations. Some external guests and experts from different
disciplines will join this open session. Critic Review: each investigative group will be visited by experts (economists, sociologists, artists, architects, etc.), who will review the work and enrich the dialogue with their analyses.
