commitment and support you have shown to our school, our people, and our programs. Your dedication to New Hampton School’s mission has been pivotal in driving our progress and our ability to remain true to our values. Through your generous contributions to both our endowment and annual support, you play a vital role in ensuring that NHS remains strong and agile in the face of challenge and change. Your philanthropic donations allow us to adapt and support programs as needed throughout the year, providing our students with the best possible educational experiences. None of this is possible without the continued growth of our endowment, which serves as a lasting resource for our School’s future. By investing in the endowment, we secure a sustainable financial foundation for making a significant and positive impact on generations of students to come. In the pages that follow, you’ll find inspiring stories of the many individuals who continue to invest in the important work being done at our school. Each story represents a testament to the transformative power of philanthropy
and the difference it makes in the lives of our students and faculty. We encourage you to read these stories, for they reflect the spirit and concrete action that you and all our donors take to ensure our success today and in the future. As we embark on another year, we look forward to continued collaboration and progress. We know that with your support, we can achieve remarkable heights. Together, we will continue to provide exceptional educational experiences, nurture talent, and strengthen a community that inspires and empowers. Thank you once again for being integral to our school’s success.

ENDOWMENTS
ENSURING THE FUTURE OF THE NHS EXPERIENCE One of the sentiments we hear most often from alumni is how strongly they believe that their experiences at New Hampton School contributed significantly to their success— both personally and professionally. Fortunately for the NHS community, a priority of our Further Together Bicentennial Campaign is to double endowment dollars, ensuring that current and future students look back and feel the same way about their NHS experience as our alumni. How does an endowment do this? First, endowments create a continuous source of support. By investing the principal amount, a portion of the returns can be used indefinitely to fund scholarships for deserving students who may face financial barriers to accessing quality education. Additionally, endowments fund enrichment programs, academic initiatives, and experiential learning opportunities, enhancing the educational experience for all students. To ensure the optimal learning experience, endowments are also used to attract top-tier faculty and administrators. This fosters a smooth-running and intellectually vibrant environment, ensuring excellence in teaching and curriculum development. In times of uncertainty, endowments also offer institutions financial stability and

resilience. Acting as a cushion during economic downturns or fluctuations in other revenue streams, endowments help us weather financial challenges while maintaining our commitment to quality education and support for our students. Moreover, endowments allow a donor to leave a lasting legacy by supporting causes and areas they are passionate about. By investing in endowments, donors make a profound and lasting impact on the strength and viability of New Hampton School, our students, our alumni, and our community for generations to come.
We are so fortunate and grateful to those who choose to support NHS in this way. Thanks to their generosity, NHS is able to continually strengthen its commitment to creating an exciting, diverse, creative, and caring learning community.

THE 1978 MEN’S HOCKEY TEAM
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR NEW HALL OF FAMERS!
We are thrilled to celebrate our 1977-1978 Men’s Varsity Hockey team’s induction into the New Hampton Athletic Hall of Fame. The team played what was described as “the finest season ever,” posting an outstanding 27-2-1 record and dominating the prep school scene. This extraordinary group of athletes left an indelible mark not only on the ice but also on our campus and the entire Husky community.
6
In celebration of their 45th reunion, a few members of the hockey team created a matching gift fundraising challenge. As dollars doubled, so did the echoes of shared experiences, creating a legacy of generosity that mirrored the strength of their collective unity on the ice in 1978.
The reunion not only served as a celebration of their accomplishments but also inspired classmates and fellow alumni to reconnect and give back to their alma mater. The camaraderie and enthusiasm displayed by the team reminded us all of the enduring spirit of Husky Nation.

DOUBLING DOWN As we enter the final year of the Further Together Bicentennial Campaign, the Board of Trustees has eyes toward the finish line. Reinforcing their dedication to New Hampton School, they have unanimously contributed a $2M dollar combined gift, bringing the total to over $28M! community that is cherished by all those who came before. But don’t pop the champagne quite yet. To finish this campaign strong, we are calling upon our entire community to join us in this monumental quest to reach our goal of $30M. Let’s harness the energy of the Board’s $2M donation and amplify it with the power of collective giving. Each Husky has a story to tell, a fond memory, or that one person who

NON-TUITION FINANCIAL AID
SUPPORTING THE ENTIRE STUDENT EXPERIENCE As every alumnus knows, the New Hampton experience is more than simply attending school. It’s about feeling valued and included and belonging to—not just a part of—a community. Many of our donors make a powerfully positive contribution to this experience through a non-tuition financial aid endowment. Thanks to their altruism and generosity, these donors help broaden diversity and ensure equity among our students. It helps us achieve our goal of supporting our students with diverse needs— regardless of race, gender, or financial situation. Here’s how:
10
1. ENSURING ACCESS AND EQUITY
Non-tuition financial aid endowments help remove financial barriers, ensuring access to high-quality education for students from diverse backgrounds. 2. SUPPORTING HOLISTIC STUDENT DEVELOPMENT
Non-tuition financial aid endowments provide students with access to a wide range of educational opportunities beyond tuition. This includes funding for extracurricular activities, educational trips, leadership
programs, and resources for mental health and well-being. Such support helps students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. 3. FOSTERING SOCIAL MOBILITY
Non-tuition financial aid endowments help create social mobility pathways by offering opportunities to students who may not have access to resources or networks that support their educational aspirations. In this way, donors contribute to breaking cycles of inequality and empowering students to achieve their full potential.
T H E N E W H A M P TO N S C H O O L B I C E N T E N N I A L CA M PA I G N • T H E L EGACY B E FO R E U S
4. PROMOTING INCLUSIVITY AND DIVERSITY
These endowments cultivate an inclusive and diverse community by providing support for underrepresented students. They create opportunities for students from various socio-economic, racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, fostering an environment that celebrates diversity and promotes a sense of belonging. 5. ADDRESSING CHANGING NEEDS DEVELOPMENT
The current educational landscape requires flexibility to respond to the evolving needs of students. Non-tuition financial aid endowments enable us to adapt our support systems and address emerging challenges, such as assisting students with technology needs, access to remote learning resources, and providing additional support for students impacted by unforeseen circumstances.

6. MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT ON LIVES— FOR THE LONG TERM
By investing in these endowments, donors create a sustainable source of support that will continue to benefit students for generations. It’s difficult to find the words that express
our gratitude for the gifts to these critical initiatives. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a huge difference in our ability to maintain the values that New Hampton School holds as paramount to success in academics—and life!
“When you walk on the campus of a lot of other boarding
schools, you can often tell which students are the “haves” and which are the “have nots.” Not here at New Hampton. We’re not pretentious, we’re inclusive. And that’s all possible because we have so many generous donors to our financial aid programs.” MAGGIE GILMAN P’26, ‘27 DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE COUNSELING DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND BELONGING
11
Different Journeys, Wider Perspectives Will McCulloch has seen a lot of change during the fifteen years he has been at New Hampton School. Among the most impactful: a more diverse student population offering different perspectives and skills that benefit students, the school, and the community. “Thanks to the generous investments our alumni and other donors have made in our financial aid programs, our students benefit from the experiences of others from around the world,” Will says. “It helps our students see that there are many different journeys to New Hampton School, all of which brings a wealth of backgrounds, skills, and thinking.
12
We all benefit from this wider perspective.” Will’s own journey was similar to that of many NHS students. He was the recipient of financial aid when he attended boarding school, an experience that drives him to find deserving potential students from underrepresented populations. “A lot of talented and qualified students never really consider a school like NHS, thinking it is financially out of their reach,” Will says. “Thanks to our donors, more and more deserving students are not just able to attend, but also succeed—academically and socially—at New Hampton.”

OUR GIVING SOCIETIES
A CELEBRATION OF GENEROSIT Y To prepare lifelong learners who will serve as active global citizens, it truly takes a village. It requires an extraordinary group of teachers, coaches, and staff. And, very importantly, it calls for a faithful community of loyal alumni, families, and friends, without whose support a life-changing New Hampton School education would not be possible.
14
To celebrate you, our generous donors, and to recognize your impact on our school community, we have Giving Societies. We need gifts at every level, as it is the collective sum that supports New Hampton School. We want to celebrate you, as you continue to support New Hampton School each year.

We are thrilled to announce an incredible collaboration between the Class of 1973, in honor of their 50th reunion, and the parents of the Class of 2023. Together, these two groups have joined fundraising forces to support a transformative project: creating a more welcoming entrance at the corner of Dr. Childs and Shingle Camp Hill Road. We are delighted
to report that they have successfully raised an impressive $100,000 for this endeavor. We extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed and supported this initiative. The project will not only benefit current students and their families but also leave a lasting legacy for future generations. We are immensely proud of the spirit of unity and collaboration demonstrated by the Class of 1973 and the parents of the
Class of 2023. Your combined efforts have exemplified the power of coming together to make a meaningful difference in our school community. Thank you once again to the Classes of ’73 and ’23 for your support, generosity, and dedication to creating an even more welcoming environment for all who pass through the school’s entrance.
THE POWER OF COLLABORATION
The Class of 1973 and the parents of the Class of 2023 raised $100,000 to create a more welcoming entrance at the corner of Dr. Childs and Shingle Camp Hill Roads.

A Sense of Belonging Maggie Gilman knows from personal experience how different types of financial aid can make a huge difference in a student’s experience—in school and in life. “I was fortunate to receive enough financial aid to attend the college of my choice,” says Maggie, NHS Director of College Counseling and Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB). “But I never had enough money for a lot of the outside activities that most other students were able to enjoy. I felt a little left out, that I didn’t quite belong. It’s not a great feeling.” That experience is one of the reasons
ANNUAL REPORT 2022–2023
Maggie believes strongly in financial aid—especially, perhaps, non-tuition financial aid. “If we want to sustain our values and build a diverse community of students, we have to support them in every way we can—academically and emotionally. When we provide the resources that enable everyone to participate in activities outside the classroom, we cultivate the sense of belonging that is, I think, unique to New Hampton School. And this sense of belonging helps inspire success in the classroom, in social situations, and within the community.”
“Proof that donations to our programs work is the fact that many of our students who receive financial aid are so grateful to be here and so eager to give back that they often become leaders of their class.” MAGGIE GILMAN P’26, ‘27 DIRECTOR OF COLLEGE COUNSELING DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND BELONGING

The Vital Role of Unrestricted Gifts We are incredibly fortunate to be the beneficiaries of one of the most powerful ways to help ensure a strong future for New Hampton School: unrestricted gifts. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, these contributions offer unparalleled flexibility, enabling NHS to allocate resources where they are most needed and to quickly address emerging challenges and priorities. Here are a few reasons an unrestricted gift is so effective: FLEXIBILITY AND RESPONSIVENESS.
Unrestricted gifts give NHS the flexibility needed to respond swiftly to evolving needs. This flexibility allows leaders to allocate funds strategically, addressing emerging opportunities and supporting critical initiatives. This helps ensure that the school remains agile and efficient as we strive to fulfill our mission. INNOVATION AND EXCELLENCE: Unrestricted
gifts serve as catalysts for innovation and excellence. By providing discretionary resources, institutions can invest in—and enhance—academic programs, attract top-tier faculty, and provide students with transformative learning experiences. EMERGING PRIORITIES: As with any institution,
NHS often faces unforeseen circumstances or emerging priorities that demand immediate attention. Unrestricted gifts help NHS confront these challenges head-on, ensuring that resources are readily available to address pressing needs or seize unique opportunities as they arise.
28
OPERATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY. The
ability to maintain day-to-day operations is essential for the smooth functioning of any institution. Unrestricted gifts contribute to essential operational expenses, such as utilities, maintenance, technology upgrades, and administrative support. This provides a stable foundation for our sustained progress. FINANCIAL STABILITY: Unrestricted gifts act as vital buffers against fluctuating economic conditions. They bolster NHS’s financial resilience, enabling it to weather economic downturns, invest in long-term growth, and maintain stability even in uncertain times. TRUST AND COLLABORATION: Through
unrestricted gifts, donors demonstrate their trust in the mission of New Hampton School. This collaborative approach fosters a strong sense of partnership, encourages open communication, and strengthens our shared commitment to the mission and goals of New Hampton School. We are so grateful for the generosity of our unrestricted gifts. These gifts make a huge difference in the lives of our students and strengthens our community, and the spirit that makes NHS such a unique place to live and learn.
UNRESTRICTED AND RESTRICTED GIFTS
An Important Balance UNRESTRICTED GIFTS
Unrestricted gifts are donations made without any specific conditions or restrictions on how the funds will be used. RESTRICTED GIFTS
By way of contrast, restricted gifts specify a particular program or project to support—beneficial for targeted initiatives and capital projects. New Hampton School strives for a balance between unrestricted and restricted gifts to ensure financial stability and the ability to pursue both immediate needs and longterm goals.

The strength of the New Hampton School’s future endowment depends in large part upon the foresight and support of those alumni, parents, and friends who have chosen to include the school in their estate plans. The 1821 Society serves to acknowledge their confidence and vision. Members of the New Hampton School community who have established bequests, life income gifts, and charitable trusts for the ultimate benefit of the school recognize the value of a New Hampton School education and their responsibility to help preserve the opportunity for future generations. New Hampton School is most appreciative of the generous commitment made to preserving the school’s future by the Society’s current members. We encourage others to join those honored here who recognize the value of sharing their legacy. By indicating your intentions to remember New Hampton School in your estate plans, you earn membership in the 1821 Society. If you have New Hampton School in your estate plans and have not notified the School or would like more information, please contact the Advancement Office alumni@newhampton.org or 603-677-3413.

THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF GIVING During his long career in finance, Matthew Lambert ’78, has been on the front line during some of the most daunting financial crises in our country’s history: the stock market crash of ‘87, the savings and loan crisis of the ’80s and ‘90s, the collapse of Long-Term Capital Management in ’98, and the global financial crisis of ‘08—not to mention the seismic changes brought about by the worldwide COVID pandemic. Through it all, Matthew adapted by constantly deepening his knowledge and upgrading his skill sets in the equity derivatives field at such firms as Smith Barney, Paine Webber, Citigroup, and currently, at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), where he serves as a securities fraud investigator in the New York office’s Division of Enforcement. He attributes much of his success to his experience during his post-graduate year at New Hampton. A multi-sport athlete, Matthew came to NHS after four years at a large public high school in his native New Jersey. He joined the storied 1977-78 Men’s Varsity Hockey team, recently inducted into the New Hampton Athletic Hall of Fame (see page 6). “I chose New Hampton mainly for its outstanding hockey program, which provided an opportunity to be scouted and recruited by premier Division 1 college and university hockey programs. It was a fantastic experience that deepened my ability to work as a team player and adapt to change,” Matthew says. “But when I went to college (Cornell University) and later embarked on a career, I discovered that I had benefitted from New Hampton in so many other

ways. It truly had a transformational effect on my life and has made me want to give back so that others can benefit, too.” Matthew says that for years, he made his donations during the annual campaigns. But he wanted to do more. So he reallocated a Charitable Remainder Trust so that New Hampton School would be one of its major beneficiaries. “I have absolute confidence in this decision because I know the money will be invested wisely,” he says. “In fact, when I returned to campus for the hockey team reunion and induction into the Hall of Fame, I could see that all forms of donations were being invested to great effect. The campus and facilities have been upgraded and well-maintained. Most importantly, there’s an immediate and very real sense of belonging to a community where the faculty and student body work together to achieve excellence. I may not have appreciated that when I was a student, but I certainly do now. I feel a deep gratitude and fondness for NHS for helping me in so many different ways during a very formative period of my life.”
