There is a wealth of well respected primary and secondary schools nearby, and for those a bit older, the new award winning York College is less than a mile from Revival. The excellent University of York is on hand for budding students who wish to stay at home and benefit from reduced expenditure, and of course, home comforts. York is a stunning city enclosed by ancient city walls, which will undoubtedly match all of your expectations. With the mix of contemporary sitting alongside the traditional, York offers a setting where the past and present merge into a lively and exciting location, with a great choice of smart shops, trendy eateries, bars and restaurants. Boasting award-winning attractions such as York Minster, the Shambles, the Jorvik Centre, the National Railway Museum and York Racecourse, Revival certainly has plenty to offer.
Built on the past, building for the future The walled riverside city of York is home to a turbulent history. Tracing back almost 2,000 years, the city of ‘Eboracum’ was founded by the Romans and became the capital of lower Britain. In the seventh century, the city was then known as ‘Eoferwic’ and was the chief conurbation of the Anglo-Saxon King Edwin of Northumbria. Less than two centuries later it became ‘Jorvik’ and was important to the Vikings for trading. The city was then ravaged by William the Conqueror but was to rise again in the Middle Ages and became an important commercial centre. The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries saw Tudor and Stuart kings as visitors, and the city then became the social capital of the north in Georgian times. York’s industrial future was assured in the 19th century with the arrival of the railway. Today, the preservation of its long and varied history is what has brought York its worldwide fame. The year round destination boasts the famous Shambles as a bustling centre piece. Often called Europe’s best preserved medieval street, walking around the cobbled road with the delightful timber-framed buildings hanging over you, it is like transporting yourself back to a different time. The street is among the UK's most visited and one of the most memorable attractions in this historic city.
