MICROSCOPY Biotek’s Cytation range of instruments combines microscopy with multi-mode detection BioTek’s Cytation range of instruments combines automated upright and inverted microscopy with conventional multi-mode microplate reading in a unique, patented design. The Cytation instruments are modular in design, allowing end-users to pick and choose modules to suit their laboratory requirements. Temperature control and shaking are standard. CO2/ O2 control; reagent injectors and Peltier cooling are available. The Cytation 7 supports automated digital upright and inverted widefield microscopy. The inverted microscopy module provides sample visualisation from 1.25x to 60x magnification in fluorescence, brightfield and colour brightfield. The upright microscopy module, with reflected light imaging, enables even more applications such as ELISpot or fast slide scanning and ROI detection workflow. Multimode microplate reading utilises a monochromator-based detection module for fluorescence, UV-Vis absorbance and luminescence. The Cytation 5 combines automated digital microscopy and conventional microplate detection in a configurable,

upgradable platform. The microscopy module offers up to 60x magnification in fluorescence, brightfield, high contrast brightfield, colour brightfield and phase contrast. The multi-mode filter-based module detects fluorescence, fluorescence polarization, time-resolved fluorescence, TR-FRET, luminescence and filter luminescence. The monochromator-based module detects fluorescence, luminescence and UV-Vis absorbance detection. The Cytation 5 can be configured to detect Laser AlphaScreen / AlphaLISA. The Cytation 1 includes fluorescence and high contrast brightfield imaging, with conventional multi-mode detection for filter/dichroic fluorescence, time-resolved fluorescence, fluorescence polarisation, luminescence, filtered luminescence and UV-Vis absorbance detection. MINING Intelligent solutions for effective, automated sample preparation To combat these characteristics, a number of sample preparation techniques are required. Simple filtration will remove dust and particles. Dilution or preconcentration is regularly used to assist with wideranging analyte concentrations. Matrix elimination cartridges often take care of the transition metals. Of course, all of these preparation steps take up valuable time when performed manually. Additional costs for single use cartridges and filters also add up quickly. Finally, manual preparation introduces potential errors through poor liquid handling. Metrohm provides intelligent solutions for effective, automated sample preparation. • Patented technology for automated filtration of up to 100 samples using a single filter take away the need for manual filtration and provides major savings in consumables. • In-line dilution of samples and standards removes the need for manual liquid handling, with intelligent software

enabling re-dilution if results are outside of the calibration range. In-line matrix elimination with regeneration ensures transition metals are removed without the need for expensive disposable matrix elimination cartridges.

Given the current pressure on labs to cut costs but still produce reliable accurate results, it might be time to consider an automated solution from Metrohm. Simplify metal mining with titration Determination of metal content, moisture, chemicals or reagents is necessary for different mining stages. Titration has proven to be a robust and simple analytical technique that can be used at nearly any point in the metal mining process, with a large extent of automation, from the early stages of sample preparation, to the addition of reagents, result calculation and data management. Using Mettler Toledo’s Excellence line of automated titrators, metal leaching and concentration analysis via titration is made safe and easy. Features and modular additions such as SmartSample reader, sample changers, burettes and LabX software, offer the ideal solution for titrimetric analysis. Only One Click on the titrator’s touch screen is required to run a titration analysis for metals. The easy operation of these robust and qualified analytical instruments as well as affordable cost, allow the use of titrators at all mining sites and in small testing labs. The main advantages of titrimetric methods such as linearity and high precision will benefit the user. Typical precision of titrimetric analyses is around 0.5%. In the case
