Bevelled ends to the roller also allow for neater work up to cut in edges and indicate care in the roller manufacture. The lack of gaps and no loose edges in the wrapped fabric is also important in creating a uniform finish and indicate a good quality roller. The fabric quality and the quality of manufacture are also important aspects that contribute to a high-quality roller. ACADEMY BRUSHWARE
The TRUSTED bathroom sealant A common mistake made when purchasing brushes and rollers is that they are often purchased on a price point. The consumer, painter or contractor should first consider the finish he requires in relation to the quality of paint used. A good quality PVA / enamel paint requires a better brush and roller than an undercoat would require. The type of surface should be considered too. There are various options of brushes and rollers to purchase for various surfaces. Academy Brushware caters for smooth, semi-smooth, medium to rough surfaces. Regarding the roller, the shorter the pile the smoother the surface. There has been a major change in paint brushes over the last five

years, more brushes are being made with synthetic filament. In the past, all paint brushes were made with hog hair. Academy Brushware supply synthetic, combination and 100% hog hair paint brushes. On rollers the technology of thermo-fusion (heat bonding) is now the norm in the market. This means that the roller is more resistant to most solvents and can be washed with thinners, turps and other cleaning agents. Academy have moved all rollers to a 40mm core, which allows for the job to be completed faster. There are various types of bristles available in the market; natural hog hair, combination of hog hair and synthetic and synthetic brushes.

FEATURE INSULATION
Insulation the first step to going green
If consumers are thinking of making their homes more energy efficient, the first thing they should be considering is how they can improve its insulation.
D
aneel Pretorius, category manager of Swartland’s Summit range of insulation and decorative ceiling products shares what it is that makes
insulation such an important addition to a home. There’s no doubt that insulation presents the easiest and most economical way to reduce energy consumption required for heating and cooling a home. “The better your home is insulated, the more energy you will save when trying to maintain a constant and comfortable indoor temperature. In fact, before you invest in any kind of air-conditioning units, heaters, or green sources of energy, such as solar panels, solar water heating units or heat pumps for example – the first step you should take is to improve your home’s overall insulation,” says Pretorius. Making sure that a home is well insulated is not just a nice-to-have – according to the SANS 10400-XA building regulations, proper insulation is actually a legal requirement for any new building.
Making sure a home is insulated is not just a nice-to-have, it's a must.

A more affordable option are windows with Low E glazing, which comprises glass panes with an ultra-thin coating that ensures less heat passes through. This coating allows light to pass through the glass, but it blocks UV light, which usually generates heat. Floor insulation: You have probably noticed how cold a concrete or tiled floor can be in winter. Floor insulation will solve this issue – it creates an insulation barrier between the cold cement foundation, and the floor substrate above. In

FEATURE INSULATION insulation between the concrete and the floor substrate, however in older homes with suspended floors, insulation usually needs to be added to the underside of the flooring. XPS insulation board is the ideal material for this job, as it is easy to install, light weight, affordable and a very efficient insulator. THE BENEFITS OF HOME INSULATION Of course, the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of insulation, is how it can help keep your home warm in winter and cool in summer. Insulation offers a whole host of other useful benefits as well, including: Energy savings: Did you know that an underinsulated home could use up to 30% more energy in order to keep it at a comfortable temperature. Air leaks around your windows, doors, through your ceiling, walls and floor, will waste a lot of energy as your heater or air-con will have to work overtime in order to maintain a comfortable ambient temperature. Insulation will help keep the warm or

DEFINITION OF A SPORT BRAND AMBASSADOR A Brand Ambassador is a person who represents an organisation or company in a positive light and by doing so help to increase brand awareness and sales.

fasteners keep static assemblies together. In those cases, they’ll hold just fine. However, they are also used on many assemblies that are subjected to load and vibration. Vibration will cause side-to-side movement of the nut and bolt because the threads don’t fit tightly enough to entirely fill the space between them (no matter how tightly pressed together they seem to the naked eye). fasteners like a washer can be added, but this still does not resolve the issue of the spaces between the threads of the nut and bolt. Once vibrational stress becomes greater than friction, the bolt will loosen. It usually takes 50-100 cycles for the threaded assembly to completely fail. Apart from vibration, there are several

factors that can affect the reliability of a threaded assembly. For example, relaxation in bolt tension can occur due to settling of the nut head and creeping of the gasket. In case of different substrates being joined, variable service temperatures can cause different thermal expansion of the materials, which will also negatively affect the fastener performance. Finally, good old corrosion, a well-known enemy
