SPOTLIGHT CORE VALUE:

LEADERSHIP

Leadership is grounded in humility and service to others. A true leader listens, recognizes, and empowers.

EDITOR’S note HAPPY JULY PIRATE PENGUINS! Wow!! Can you believe that we’re already halfway through the year? Time has gone by so fast especially in quarantine. With the weather getting a lot warmer, I know it can be harder to stay motivated, but remember that summer is a time where you can go after new interests and pursue your passions. Use this time to do all the things that make you happy! As we are still in quarantine due to the pandemic, it saddens me to think that we won’t be able to have a summer filled with fun times at service events, but I hope you all have continued to stay safe and healthy thus far. Even though we won’t be able to physically serve together, remember that service is all around us and there are still many ways to help out your community. Remember to also take care of yourselves. Self care is so important especially during this unprecedented time. Take time out of the week to do something that you enjoy whether that be putting on a face mask, going on a run, or starting a new hobby. Thank you for reading this month’s issue and I hope I can see you all soon!

WITH GRATITUDE, Julie Mai Division Newsletter Editor

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR RYAN SON

WHAT’S WADDLIN’ PIRATE PENGUINS? This is your Lieutenant Governor checking in on you guys. This month has been very dormant, meaning that I don’t have much to update nor reflect on. Currently, we are only getting worse into this pandemic and all I can ask for you guys is to stay safe and follow protocols to help get over this. Our organization has evolved and developed into an organization where we can help and serve those we never have before. We have charity miles where you can choose to donate to UNICEF in order to help the Yemen crisis. We also have fun activities that mark as service events/projects for all of you. All I ask is for the officers and Presidents to take care of your fellow members and be as creative as possible. We will be beginning spirit sessions soon so we can all look forward to the upcoming online sessions. Let’s hope for the best so we can show our cheers and spirit loud and proud in person. One last thing for this month is to be motivating and supportive to everyone around us. Summer has begun and the weather is steaming hot, annoying, and sticky. This weather could be the changing factor of our personalities towards our very parents and friends who you are limited to see. Take this into consideration and be the role models and amazing people you all are. Please note that I am always here for all of you. I consider myself a friend to all of you and will never look down at any of you. Thank you and have a wonderful July! Waddlin’ with Pride, Ryan Son D19N Lieutenant Governor 4

EVENT RECAP 66

make a card

CHRISTIAN VIRATA | GARDENA PRESIDENT During the month of June, on the 15th we held a board meeting in order to discuss and come up with events to hold throughout the month. On the following day, June 16, Ryan Nguyen our VicePresident held a general club meeting where we announced two upcoming events, being the Mask making and Father’s Day card making. Following the announcement, on June 20th we hosted a zoom meeting to show members how to create a Father’s Day card as well as to keep track of who was participating. Towards the end of the meeting, we then transitioned into teaching members how to create face masks to promote safety during the quarantine.

WHAT IS THE ICY LINK SYSTEM?

8

The ICY LINK SYSTEM is a system where anyone can utilize any platform to get better insight in officer and leadership positions. Especially any type of training with the LTG or other private methods of training will be part of the Icy Link System.

HOW TO STAY:

MOTIVATED motivation [mo· ti· va· tion]

the reason or reasons one has for acting or behaving in a particular way.

1. UNDERSTAND YOUR WHY AND DEFINE YOUR GOALS

Determine what your goals are and why they matter to you. What is the purpose of your goal? Why do you want to reach it? Sometimes it can be hard to stay motivated because we’re surrounded by influence and expectations from people around us to reach goals they have for us instead of the goals we have for ourselves. Remember that no one knows you better than yourself and that motivation comes from within you. Being clear about what you’re working towards can give you the push that you need.

2. MAKE A TO-DO LIST

Making a to-do list for the day can make it easier for you to visualize what you need to get done. Utilizing a to-do list can also help you break down your goal into smaller tasks so that they are more manageable.

3. REWARD YOURSELF

Setting up rewards for yourself, whether that be spending 30 minutes on YouTube or going on a walk, can make you more motivated to finish a task in order to reach that reward.

4. STAY POSITIVE

Having the right mindset is key. Positive thoughts lead to positive actions and those actions are what will help you achieve your goals. 9
