PIRATE PENGUINS

Letter from the ltg Summer is almost done, however that does not mean to take a break from Key Club. I would like to thank everyone who was able to come out to the July DCM. Thank you for all of your dedication to this service organization, even though we could not partake in the service project since the rain stopped us. During the July DCM I was so proud of you all for BEEing open to the new cheers that we will perform at Fall Rally South on November 14th, 2015. On a different note, I would like to emphasize something that I have seen at previous events. I Carolyn Chang noticed that each club would usually stay within their own cliques and would never try to get out of your comfort zones. I am here to remind you all that we are all one division ohana and we are ALWAYS here for each other. Once the school year starts, we will all need each other’s support to continue this term strong. One of the two training conferences of the term is coming up on August 15th, Officer Training Conference! Yes you will learn more about your roles, responsibilities, and duties, especially as a member of Key Club International. Plus you will also bond more with the division ohana, along with pizza. I cannot wait to see and spend this last month of Summer with you all!

Club articles CAMS

The month of June was a great month for CAMS Key Club. We started off the month at the Wrigley River Run in Long By Christopher Soo-Hoo Beach where we worked the “Fun Zone” by throwing cornstarch at runners, setting up tire obstacles, and blew bubbles. The following week was our school’s graduation, and we spent the weeks leading up to that event by making ribbon leis with our lei committee to sell. The next week, CAMS Key Club volunteered at the Redondo Beach Triathlon starting at 5 in the morning to clean the area for competitors and direct people to different areas of the race. For the last week of June, we attended the joint DCM where we sold division wristbands to raise money for PTP. Lastly, we were invited to volunteer at a bike corral in Redondo Beach where we offered free bike parking to encourage people to use bikes as their mode of transportation. To prevent bikes from being stolen, we placed tags on each bike and acted as a valet service. CAMS Key Club cannot wait to see what July will bring us with our variety of fundraisers being planned.

Da Vinci

The month of June was a productive month for Da Vinci Science Key Club! A By Christian Cisneros few of the members volunteered at the 15th Annual “Beauty and the Beach” NRG Clean-Up alongside Kiwanis and a few members from El Segundo’s Key Club. At the event, members cleaned the beach and socialized with Kiwanis and other Key Clubbers that attended. Later on in the month, the Da Vinci Science Key Club Board attended an approximately three-hourlong Skype call to discuss goals, future plans, events, and improvements for the upcoming school year. Key Clubbers also attended the Division 19 South and North joint Division Council Meeting. Members gathered and socialized with other Key Clubbers while the Presidents and Division Leadership Team members were “pied” in the face for a $1.00 donation that would go towards the Eliminate Project. Through this, Key Clubbers were able to raise $101.00 dollars for Eliminate! Overall, the month of June went well for Da Vinci Science Key Club, and we will continue to strive to do our absolute best as members and volunteers for the month of July!

El Segundo

During our first month of summer, El Segundo Key CLub continued to volunteer at various events. On June By Hannah C. Levy 6th, El Segundo and Da Vinci Key Club helped El Segundo Kiwanis at their beach cleanup event where some of our members picked up debris along the El Segundo Beach. There, our members met some Kiwins from Diamond Dinos and grew closer to El Segundo Kiwanis. On June 19, some of our members volunteered at a food drive along with Gardena Key Club, Girl Scouts, ABC News 7, and Albertsons where they place bags of canned goods and staple foods in crates to be taken to the LA Food Bank. On June 20, 5 members attended the first joint D19 DCM with the Division 19 South Beastie Bunnies. There, the divisions bonded over lunch and a pie-in-the-face activity to raise money for MNT. As our town is a host town for the Special Olympics, three members attended a planning meeting for the upcoming Special Olympics occurring in July. At the meeting, the members were able to offer our club as volunteers, funds we have raised to be donated to our town’s host town fund, and offered our services to anyone he needed help planning the aspect of the Olympians' stay they are in charge of. We would like to put a spotlight on Zoe Forest for her dedication to the El Segundo Special Olympics Host Town Team as she stepped out of her comfort zone and took charge of planning and kept our club in the loop about how we could help.

Hawthorne

This past month at Hawthorne High School we prepared for the end of the By Nicolas Fernandez school year. We had a potluck with our fellow Knights community service club and we held a bonfire the second to last week of school joint with Knights. We rejoiced with each other remembering the great year we had with each other. We are also preparing to have a lunch meeting with our local Kiwanis Club the 17nth of July in order to familiarize ourselves with how they conduct business and further our relationship in preparation for the following year.

HMSA

The month of June was a more calming month as our club’s school year came to an end. The events of June primarily By RicardoAlmazan consisted in helping elementary and middle schools with their end of year activities. One such event volunteered at was Bud Carson Middle School’s Hustle for Huskies. This event has served the city of Hawthorne as an event that has taken on a life of its own as both a fundraising and community building event. Members really enjoyed volunteering here as they met many new people and gladly helped the youths of the city.

The Eucalyptus Carnival was another such event that took place this month. Here members were able to help out at a local elementary school to help run booths and help out in other ways. Members were really content with this event as some were able to go back to their respective elementary school and of course, service! The rest of the month was held to mainly planning future service events that will be held in July. We hope members are as excited to volunteer in the summer as well!

Jeff Wen

Our Member of the Month is Jeff Wen! Although he’s been a Key Clubber for less than a year, he has done so much already. He’s very helpful considering that his attendance at events has significantly increased. (It was wonderful seeing him at our recent joint DCM!) Month! He is truly making an impact in our local communities. It’s a plus that he really BEElieves in the idea of service as seen with the smile that he delivers to those that he serves. When asked to do something, he does it and makes sure that it’s done right! In fact, he really helped CAMS Key Club by chairing the service project, Redondo Beach Triathlon. Even during the hot summer month, he still spared some time, took initiative, demonstrated leadership, and cheered participants on! Jeff has been inspired ever since his first service project and we are so enlightened to see him grow. His hard work and dedication is surely something to marvel at. Having said that, Jeff Wen is recognized as Member of the

Belen Blanco

Belen is another one of our more quiet members but still constantly tries to show dedication to our club. This month alone she has taken initiative to help out at the local beach cleanup even though many member were unable to make it due to summer plans. Belen constant signs of improvement and signs of striving for more out of her Key Club experience. She is just a freshmen and joined our school club just this year but already she has been going to all the both divisional and school club events we provide. She was even able to attend the final Division 19 North Banquet to appreciate how far our club has gone. Belen is very deserving of this Member of the Month title and we hope to see more of her as summer progresses. Submitted by: Hannah C. Levy

El Segundo Key Club

Ryan Lim

This month El Segundo’s Member of the Month is Ryan Lim. Ryan attends El Segundo High School as a junior and has stepped out of his comfort zone by volunteering at the beach clean up an extending his passion for service. to his family by bringing them to the clean up. When Ryan’s sister, Christine, was in Key Club (she is moving on to do great things at UCLA now), Ryan has really become his own person by voluntarily coming to the events alone and showing true independence and passion for service. Great job, Ryan! Your service is never unnoticed and your dedication is contagious
