Letter from LTG

Jared Keating What’s Waddlin’ Pirate Penguins! Thank you for flying by Officer Training Conference 2018: Service Superheroes! I hope you had an incredible experience at the event and learning about the responsibilities of a club officer. If you are a club officer and couldn’t make the training event, don’t worry! On July 1st, 2018, Division 19 North will be having our Summer Board Training Conference, where the Division Leadership Team will provide personal training to the club officers! We are approximately 3 months into the term and I couldn’t be prouder of what we have accomplished. As of May 5th, 2018, Division 19 North has served 298 hours of community service and raised $321 for the Pediatric Trauma Program and Project eliMiNaTe.

In the upcoming month, Region 8 will be hosting our first Region Olympics. The theme is “The Gr8 Race” and will be held on July 21st. This is a great opportunity to meet new members from around the Region and show your Division pride. Wear your favorite spirit gear and be prepared to take home the gold. Make sure to look out for more details on the Facebook page. All in all, I am incredibly proud of the Division I serve and I cannot wait to see what the upcoming month has in store for us. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have any questions, comments, or concerns! Keep waddlin’ and stay poppin’ ⁃Jared

“I had a BLAST at the May DCM, as I do with almost any Key Club event! I re-encountered with old friends & made new ones! I had no idea about E-Lemon-Ate until the May DCM came around! It was also great to meet the 201819 DLT, and I especially paid attention to them because I’m looking to get into the DLT next year as Head Spirit Coordinator. If you ask me, though, I’m a kid at heart, but sometimes I can exaggerate a LOT & say I’m starving! That’s when it was time to eat the lemons, and BOY, were they tasty!!!! (I’m being sarcastic.) Top it off by shouting at the LTG & CAMS Key Club HOW THEY FEEL (and even getting that shouted at myself) and it all adds up to yet another icy happy day with the Pirate Penguins! ”

CAMS

By: Nikki Catangay, CAMS Key Club Co-Vice President

We did not have too many events this month due to finals, IDP, and AP testing. Board wanted to take a little break to focus on academics and knew we would be lacking member attendance during this time of the school season. Despite this CAMS Key Club managed to have 27 members attend the first Division Council Meeting of the new term. Some of our members also attended the Soy BilingĂźe Festival, and the Race to End Extinction. At the Wrigley River Run in Long Beach, 21 members volunteered which allows us to apply for a grant! To celebrate the achievements from the past term, 20 members attended the Division 19 North Banquet with our fellow pirate penguins.

Gardena By: Sandra Kim, Gardena Key Club President

Throughout the month of May, Gardena Key Club took part in many different types of events! First off, volunteers participated in the city’s annual Cinco de Mayo Parade! From the Gardena Supermarket to the Mas Fukai park, Gardena Key Club represented the Gardena Valley Kiwanis throughout the parade with their lovely banner. Following the parade, we hosted an Ice Skating Fundraiser at the Toyota Sports Center, in which we raised $185.50! Key Clubbers within Division 19 and our club came to show support by having a blast on the ice! Then, Gardena Key Club volunteered at the Youth Fishing Derby at Alondra Park, where we helped with registration, lunch preparation, and lunch distribution to the many children attending the event. In addition to all the service and fundraising we’ve done in May, Gardena Key Club hosted an End-of-the-Year Banquet to celebrate our achievements from the 2017-18 term and to officially welcome the 2018-19 term! Not only did we have photo booths and icebreakers, we also gave a big, hearty thank you to our IP board, advisors, and entire club for all that they’ve done in the past term! All our fundraisers aren’t always for us! In support of eliMiNaTe Week and the fight against Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus, Gardena Key Club fundraised at the May DCM by selling muffins that spell “MNT”! Through our fundraiser, we were able to donate $90 towards MNT!

El segundo By: Anjelica Ayalde , El Segundo Key Club President

For the month of May, we were able to host one fundraiser at the end of the month, but unable to gain service hours for this month. We held a Krispy Kreme fundraiser, where we created goodie bags that contained: one donut, candies, and a handwritten thank you letter. Although we are barely restarting our tracks once again, we earned a total of about $140 just by having this fundraiser! Great right. This fundraiser would only be one of the firsts to help us regain our El Segundo's Key Club once again!

hawthorne By: Luke Fernandez, Hawthorne Key Club President

For the month of May we hosted four service event, attended the last banquet of the year, as well as the May DCM. On May 5th we attended the Lenox parade where we represented Hawthorne High Key Club. On May 12th we also participated in the Hawthorne Annual 5K and Health Fair where Key Clubbers helped pass out water to the runners. We also helped set up tables and stations for the fair. In addition, we made about 30 dog toys at our dog toy making event which was held on the 17th of May. Also, on May 24th we participated in the Canine dinner where we helped serve people that attended the event as well as had the opportunity to see the dogs in the police force. We also attended the May DCM on the 19th, as well as the last banquet the following day. The banquet was on the 20th and was filled with many smiles as well as tears for the officers coming into Key Club as well as leaving.

MEMBERS OF THE MONTH

Kaitlyn Lee

CAMS Key Club’s member of

the month for May is Kaitlyn Lee! She has recently attended the Division banquet, CAMS Key Club banquet, AND our Wrigley River Run service event. She wasn’t too active last term so we are proud to see this member starting off the new term strong. We hope that her passion for Key Club continues to grow!

Chester Virata Hey pirate penguins! For the month May, Chester Virata has shown a cunning ambition that can not BEE stopped. For the 2017-2018

Gardena Key

Club Board he was the Vice President. After his

term he was striving to find different ways to help his club and division although he is not apart of the board anymore. Recently at the Eli-MAY-nate Division Conference Meeting, it was announced he was apart of our Division Leadership Team as our new Membership Recognition Coordinator. Additionally, throughout this month he has shown inclusiveness to others by talking and interacting with them. During this month, he was working hard on preparing his banquet which was a success! We hope to see him accomplish more this month and throughout the term!
