CAMS

By: Nikki Catangay, CAMS Key Club Co-Vice President

For the month of July CAMS key clubbers spent their summers by focusing on helping CNH “bee clean, which was the district spotlight on service project. We volunteered at the Mud Mania, the Bolsa Chica Habitat Restoration, the Colorado Lagoon Habitat Restoration, Feed the Children, the fireworks stand on Avalon, Shakespeare by the Sea, Shrek the Musical, Arts Alive, and a school supply drive which adds up to a total of 9 service events! Many of our members also made it out to the Division 19 North Yogurtland Fundraiser and the Region 8 Olympics. During the olympics, we sold name badges that helped us raise about $100 for the division. However, one of our major accomplishments this month was applying for a grant under Division 19 North that allowed us to earn $500! We are excited to see what these funds can do for our community throughout the term.

DA VINCI By: Natalia Zeledon, Da Vinci Key Club

What’s Waddlin’ Division 19 North?! For the past month Da Vinci Key Club attended 9 Division events! On the Fourth of July, one member attended the 4th of July 5k and another two members attended the El Segundo Kiwanis Pie eating contest later that day. One member also attended the Clean an Animal Shelter service event where key clubbers made the outside of an animal shelter look clean and presentable. Da Vinci Key Club had 5 members from the board and Division Leadership Team attend Region Olympics where we got to bond with our Region 8 Ohana and participate in the sandwich making activity and supply drive! The day after, one member attended the Manhattan Mile to monitor the bikes route and later that week attended Arts Alive, where she got to work backstage on the play, Oliver. That Saturday morning, one of our members went to the Los Angeles Food Bank where she and other penguins sorted food donations that would be distributed throughout Los Angeles. Da Vinci is extremely honored to have Matthew Ujemov, our IP Vice President, be the first from our club to attend International Convention where he got to meet key clubbers from around the world! That is all that we did this month, and we hope to do more with our new members once the school year starts!

El segundo By: Anjelica Ayalde , El Segundo Key Club President

HEY PIRATE PENGUINS! For the month of July, we unfortunately were not able to attend any service events for this month. Many of our members viewed each service event and wanted to help out this month, but couldn’t go due to personal schedules. Although we weren’t able to attend events in July, we brainstormed different ideas for some cool fundraisers and were planning how to approach new members for the club in the upcoming school year! And hopefully we can gain more members to attend these fun service events in August and as the school year begins! YAY

Gardena By: Sandra Kim, Gardena Key Club President

Throughout the past month, Gardena Key Club helped out at several events and attended the R8 Olympics/July DCM! At the R8 Olympics, eight of our members attended and participated in the two service opportunities there! Some of our members brought supplies to help provide necessities for the hopeless through the region event. We helped make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with the rest of Region 8 as well. In addition, one of our members attended the Manhattan Mile Village Runner on July 22. Although there wasn't much for July, Gardena Key Club has high hopes for August with service events, fundraisers, and club rush!

Hello Key Club, sadly for the month of July we were not able to host any events. However, we already have ideas to improve in August and we are excited to start a new school year! We plan on hosting a fundraiser at the beginning of the year to bring in some new members, as well as encourage the club to participate.

#MyKeyClubStory LAUREN NGUYEN Why did you join Key Club? I joined Key Club during my freshman year when my older sister encouraged me to join. As a Key Club member in the past, she described a “really fun and cheerful” environment that makes volunteering even better. As I attended a few meetings and events in the beginning of the semester to see how it was like, I actually enjoyed them and wanted to commit to this club.

What was your Key Club moment? My Key Club moment was during my home club’s annual banquet this year. As a past Key Club board member (historian), seeing not only the brand new board but an amazing, new historian to take my place made my Key Club journey all worth it. I was so proud of the new board and especially proud of Tuyet to be the new historian. Going up on stage to talk about our funny moments with my best friend Melissa, I felt like I could be freely open to our club. There was also great food and a memorable photo booth to capture the night.

What made you stay in Key Club? What made me stay in Key Club were my friends, who are all members of Key Club. The members in general allow the environment to be more spirited and fun along the way, which encouraged me to stay. When going to volunteering events, the members also reassure the fun and spirited nature. I realized that it is worth it to stay in this amazing club throughout my high school life to enjoy even more journeys.

What was your weirdest Key Club moment? My weirdest Key Club moment was at a DCM when we were all playing an icebreaker called “out the window.” Some of my friends and I were very passionate about this game as it turned out to be super competitive. Us and another team were the final groups in the game, we continuously shouted many songs and funny insults (and we won ;)). I found it weird because we were all wild, jumping crazily and being competitively spirited, but it was one of my favorite moments as well.
