Letter From The LTG

Division 19 North, Thank YOU for everything you have done as a division. As these last few weeks, I will be serving as your Lieutenant Governor and soon Chris Soo-Hoo will serve as the next Lieutenant Governor. Thank you for trying your best to serve this service organization and leaving your legacy with the division. I am sincerely proud of you all for everything you have accomplished and done. Please remember to reflect about the positives of this term, and thank the key players, the advisors, adults, chaperones, and especially the members. It is a bittersweet ending to end this term, however I know you all will accomplish much more next term. Again, thank you for one last time. For one last time, Waddling to Serve, Carolyn Chang

CAMS Key Club

January was a great month for CAMS Key Club. After coming back to school after winter break, we started off the month volunteering at the New Years Race in Los Angeles and helped by handing out water to runners at water stations. The following weeks, we attended various events including our Region Conclave where we witnessed Lieutenant Governor Elects become elected from the five divisions in our region followed by the January DCM. The next week, we volunteered at two Run to Remember events on the 23rd and the 24th of the month. Finally, we spent the last weekend volunteering at a Trash for Teaching event where we packaged recycled products for children to experiment with. January was a busy month, and as we are coming closer and closer to April, we are preparing for District Convention.

Da Vinci Science

By Christian Cisneros

The month of January was a very exciting and busy month for Da Vinci Science Key Club! As a board, we decided that we wanted to introduce elections and leadership positions as soon as possible so that times would not become stressful later on. With that being said, we held a Key Club Board workshop after-school, and each officer explained their positions, what they do, and how to be successful. A week later, elections were held after-school, and we had eight people run for positions! We will be revealing the results of the election during our first February meeting next week, so we are very excited! In regards to service, Key Club members volunteered at the Conquer Our Run race in Manhattan Beach on Saturday and later on at the Run to Remember Race in Los Angeles. Members who went to the Conquer Our Run Race helped the event coordinators by handing out waters and other materials for the runners. At the Run to Remember Race, members helped pass out different samples of products that were sponsoring the race. Members also directed runners to their race bibs and wherever they needed to go and answered any questions and/or concerns. As one of the members states, it was a really fun event because they were able to meet and interact with other volunteers and talk to runners about their journeys and how they got to where they were today. They were also given the chance to meet police officers, soldiers, marines, and firefighters, which made the experience even more memorable. Finally, one January 31st, one of our Key Club members volunteered at One Incredible Family’s Valentine’s Day Card making event, where they made and decorated Valentine’s Day cards for children. Overall, the month of January was a very exciting month for Da Vinci Science Key Club, and we cannot wait for the lovely month of February!

El Segundo Key Club

For the month of January, El Segundo Key Club volunteered at 2 events and attended Region Conclave. This month’s events emphasized the health of the world, both for humans and nature. At the first event of the month, Conquer Our Run, members put race packets together and distributed medals. This race is put on by a lady who has Lupus, and her dedication to maintaining her strength is truly a pleasure to be around and volunteer at. The second event to conclude the month was with Tree Musketeers, and our members helped put mulch around a tree and cleaned up the area to prepare for Arbor Day, which we can’t wait to participate in!

The month of January; the start of a new beginning along with the continuation of displaying service to others within our community. Region 8 Conclave also took place during this month on January 18th where our division elects our Lieutenant Governor who will represent our division for the next term. Congratulations to Chris Soo-Hoo! We volunteered at 186th Elementary School with a Service Day Project where we did various tasks such as: organizing T-Shirts sizes, gathering up the Lost and Found sweaters that will be donated, created necklaces out of ribbon and stars, and created an inventory. We also volunteered at 186th with the Owl's Awards Night and sold chips, chocolate, popcorn, gummy snacks, and drinks at the stand. We also had an Art Gallery event at Gardena High; it was very formal. We assisted with serving the food and drinks, escorted the guests, and handled the registration booth. Within our club, DCON registration is completed with a total of eight members attending. Now, we're going to be focusing on training the potential candidates interesting in working with the Gardena Key Club Board for 2016-2017 with our upcoming election.

Hawthorne Key Club This past month for Hawthorne key club, the entire club was filled with Christmas spirit. The members were lively and excited for the potluck that we organized during the second week of December. The first week was solely in preparation for the potluck. The potluck was magnificent with members brining pizza, candy, sweets, soda, etc. To make the potluck more interesting we collaborated with our counterpart community service club “Knights and Dinaconians/Interact.” We decided to host a dodgeball tournament after the potluck. In which all clubs on campus could participate in. The two key club teams participating in the tournament made it to the last round and it ended up being key club vs key club for the dodgeball championship. I was an exciting day, fun filled and we had plenty of food. That following Saturday three members including myself helped in a SRLA (Students run Los Angeles Marathon) event. We spent the morning cleaning, cutting fruit, playing music, and all around cheering on the runners. The runners were having what they called a lapathon on the Hawthorne track and trying to raise money for their organization. We were glad to help with their event. We sent ten members to the rose float event. My members told me the event was great! “Despite the 40 degree weather” they joking told me. They spent their time cutting sunflowers and other flowers for the rose floats. The club was separated into groups some painted the floats, while others cut flowers. They still had time to collaborate and synergize with other Key Clubbers. Our final event this past month was yesterday. We hosted an ice skating fundraiser at the Toyota center. It was great to see the members to start of the New Year and we made around $710. While getting to enjoy time together as a club skating on the ice.

HMSA Key Club The month of January was a progressive month for the club of HMSA. We held many events, both outside and in the club. To kick off the month, we had many members be super hype for Conclave early on. We announced our new LTG and our club members are really excited about it. We continued the hard month as finals were also kicked off at our school. We fought back and had great volunteer events. After the week of finals; were able to successfully choose our nominees for the future board. We are actually very excited for the future. For two days in a later weekend, we were able to volunteer at a Walk to Remember. This was a walk to help raise money for first responders of 9/11. The first day we volunteered at an expo for the race. We helped create goody bags and overall prepare for the race the next day. The following Sunday was the race and many members were happy out the whole event. They were able to meet up with Key Clubbers from another division. Lastly, in our general club meetings, we created cards for hospitalized children. Many members are actually content about this and we had about 20+ cards. The club already has a date set for our elections; we are very excited and humble of what the club has to offer in the near future. We are excited for more events and more service.

King Drew Key Club

For the month of January the members of Key Club had participated in the election of the new Lieutenant Governor for the new District 13 West! Sadly we, in the nearby future, will no longer be part of D19N, but we are so excited to have been a part of it. We, in this month, also participated in the Run 2 Remember where we had volunteered from early in the morning to mid-day helping out by passing out water and motivating runner to finish their ever so tiresome race. We also finally counted the amount of donations we received from UNICEF boxes and we raised over $100 dollars, $109 to be exact! I was surprised, I did not expect this much so I was very happy about the outcome. February will no doubt be another month of service.

Lawndale Key Club

New year, new goals. For the month of January, Lawndale Key Club has been getting progressively more active! Our members volunteered at Tree Musketeers and did tasks like mulching and pruning trees in preparation for an upcoming Tree Musketeers Arbor Day event. We also had the pleasure in working alongside El Segundo Key Club members! In addition to this, Kiwanis and Lawndale Key Club collaborated to surprise our Kiwanis advisor, Shirley Rudolph. Members painted and primed wood boards in preparation to create a ramp for her husband. The ramp was greatly received by her and her husband, which gives us immense pride in having visible results in serving our community. Our board members have been collaborating with many more ideas to end the term strong, such as a popcorn fundraiser to fund senior medals and to put into next term’s club account. We also plan on making even more buttons to bring to District Convention, so be on a lookout for new designs! Lawndale Key Club is excited to embrace the month of February and continue improving as a club! By Vivian Nguyen

Leuzinger Key Club The month of December was fun and exciting for Leuzinger Key Club as we participated in multiple different activities. In the beginning of the month, 10 key club members travel to the Hawthorne Community Center during our lunch break to help prepare food and serve senior citizens at the annual Hawthorne Community Senior Luncheon. Later in the month, we volunteered at Anderson Elementary which lasted for two days to help the PTA organize and prepare baskets filled with donated goods such as canned goods in order to distribute them the to the distinct families. Also, during the month of December, Leuzinger High School organized an event called Club Olympics where different clubs from Leuzinger joined and competed against each other in friendly games; we recruited members to participate to have fun being united as a team and enjoy the games. Members who attended the December DCM enjoyed and had fun getting to know other key clubbers from different schools and participating in the icebreakers that were played. Lastly, at the end of the month some members participated in helping prepare the rose parade floats. December was a month of joining together as a family and having fun. By Diana Nguyen

Celia Yu CAMS Key Club is super proud to say that Celia Yu is Member of the Month! She is truly bubbly and welcoming! She has attended most, if not all, our club meetings! And when she does, she wonderfully shares her experiences with fellow Key Clubbers. Her attendance at events is superb as well. Recently she has volunteered at Run to Remember, helping with registration, in addition to handing out shirts and food to participants. We know that nothing could stop her from boxing presents for the less fortunate, feeding the homeless, or strange AM marathons! Even with stressful tests around the corner, she manages to come out at 5 o' clock in the morning to show her Key Club spirit and her want to make a difference! We have seen her grow so much. Her dedication is truly admirable. Right from the start, we knew Celia had potential. She has the heart to serve and we all know it!

Juan Moreno The member of the month for the month of January is Juan Moreno. We are proud to present Juan as our DVS Member of the Month because Juan Moreno has been a member since his junior year and at first came to all the events but as junior year progresses and school work increase he began to show up a little less. Recently however into his senior year he had resparked his interest in key club and has constantly been coming to more events and volunteering opportunities. Just last week Juan went to two volunteering events in one day and offered to give others a ride there and on top of that he stayed for the Key Club elections which ran for an hour or longer.
