EDITOR’S NOTE HAPPY JUNE PIRATE PENGUINS! School has finally ended, and summer has officially begun! First off, I want to congratulate all the Key Club seniors that have graduated! Thank you for all that you have done for Key Club and I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors. To current Key Club members, I know it’s difficult right now because we can’t physically go to service events, but remember that you can still make an impact, even from home! Service is not just limited to physical events that we can attend. In fact, there are many service events that you can find online, and I encourage you all to research about them to find ways where you can help, even if its just a little. Hopefully, we will be able to go to service events soon, but until then I hope you all keep this option in mind while you’re looking for service events to do. Remember to always take care of yourself during this quarantine and continue doing the things that make you happy! I hope I can see you all soon but, until then thank you for reading this month’s issue!
WITH GRATITUDE, Julie Mai Division Newsletter Editor

RYAN SON Hello Pirate Penguins! I would like to congratulate all the seniors for graduating and starting the next chapters of their lives. I also want to congratulate everyone for making it another year in high school. However, this specific year has been a journey so far. You guys have all been so helpful, supportive, and caring for our community. We are surviving a pandemic, fighting for equality, uniting as one family, and most importantly, we are serving to help make the world a better place. Most of us came into quarantine without any thought of what was coming. We thought maybe give it a few months and we would be back with our regular and normal lives. When quarantine started, most of us were told we would be given a pass/fail grade. We also had to attend school online. However, this all started to change. We must wear masks in public. We always must stay six feet apart . But think of all the good that quarantine brought us. We are serving the community in a way we have never done before. We are changing the lives of those who always suffered from injustice and inequality. We are becoming one family and protecting our future. We have it so far into quarantine, but we have so much to look up to and fight for. So keep fighting and serving the right way. Take initiative and be leaders. Be inclusive of everyone you stand up for when fighting through these obstacles. Develop new characteristics and show everyone the person you really are. Lastly, be caring. Think of what others feel. Don’t go against something just to prove someone wrong. You fight to make an impact. You have all seen what a peaceful protest is. You have heard the many voices of those in pain and shock. Fight alongside them, but don’t get greedy for more. Be proud of what you represent and why you represent it. Serve the community the correct way. Hopefully, I can see you all soon and have an in-person DCM or event. Until then, know that I support every one of you.

CHARLES NGUYEN, LEENA NGUYEN, LENA TRAN, TRACY LIEU, PAMELA HERNANDEZ | LEUZINGER BOARD For the month of May, Leuzinger Key Club has been reworked and has participated in the event called “Send a Smile!”. The event, “Send a Smile!”, is about sending a letter of appreciation, concern, and love to the senior citizens as they are going through desperate times. With the pandemic of COVID- 19, Leuzinger Key Club now has a more efficient way to communicate, record events and participation, and verifying hours all thanks to Discord. We also made and are tweaking a discord bot, which is mainly exclusive to our school. We are making sure that everyone is staying connected, active, and most importantly: safe, as things are reaching a turning point in this world.

& visuals CHRISTIAN VIRATA | GARDENA PRESIDENT Ahoy Penguins! During the month of May even though the month was filled with woeful news, our club continued to have a board meeting and a general meeting. What occurred during the Board meeting was planning out events for the next two months. During the duration of the beginning of May, we reached out to Seniors within Gardena Key Club and got them to send in their names and graduation pictures to be part of the city’s senior project where they acknowledged students of the graduating class of 2020. At the start of May, we held a general club meeting where we encouraged members to attend the May DCM, where they introduced the new Division Leadership team. As stated beforehand, on May 22nd we held a board meeting where we browsed community social media and Facebook pages looking for ways of creating future events. On the other hand, to keep in touch with our members we utilized the app to notify them of upcoming events and meetings. On May 25 Memorial Day, our historian came up with an event idea where we would create red paper poppies to symbolize our respect for the people who lost their lives fighting for this country. We hope to be able to create more fun events and create an environment that is friendly and enjoyable for new and old members.

NintendOTC w/ D19S RECAP At our joint Nintendotc with Division 19 South, officers were able to attend 3 workshops. Each workshop lasted around 30 minutes where officers were able to learn more about their positions and how they could improve their skills. After workshops ended, officers from both divisions competed in a Kahoot game. To end off OTC, we had an LTG panel where Ryan Son and Anran Ren answered questions.

HOW TO SUPPORT
1 2 3 4 10
DONATE Raising funds help support the protesters, the victim’s families, black owned businesses and many more! Do what you can to help because any amount can make a huge impact.
TEXT, CALL, EMAIL Another way you can help support, is to make calls to District Attorneys or the state Mayors. If you are not comfortable with calling, you can also send text messages or emails.
SPREAD AWARENESS Spread awareness within your friends, families, communities, and social media. Raising awareness is important in spreading the message and developing support in stopping these injustices.
STAY EDUACATED Now more than ever, it is important to stay educated on these issues. The information is all around us, but it is up to YOU to take advantage of that and educate yourself. Listen to those that have been affected and understand why we must fight to end racial inequality.

: E K A M O T HOW Cut out two 8in by 4.5in rectangles of tightly woven cotton or cotton-poly blend fabric.
Place the two fabrics on top of each other and stitch the bottom and top of the fabrics.
Fold the fabric over 1 cm on both sides and stitch them down.
Thread a piece of elastic through the loops from the side of the fabric and tie the ends of the elastic tight.
Gently pull elastic knot through the loop so that the knot is tucked inside the loop.
Stitch the ends of the elastic to ensure the tie from slipping out.
