3 EDITOR’S 4 NOTE 5 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 HELLO PIRATE PENGUINS! My name is Julie Mai and I’m happy to serve you as the Division Newsletter Editor for the 2020 - 2021 term! As a small introduction, I am currently a junior at CAMS. I have been a part of Key Club since my freshman year and have continued to grow my love for service! When I’m not at service events, I’m usually spending time with friends, watching kdramas, or doing homework TT. With the current pandemic, I hope you all are staying home and staying safe. If you are going out for necessities, always make sure to wear a mask and sanitize your hands constantly! Since we’re currently in quarantine, I encourage you all to take advantage of this time to start new hobbies, spend time with your family, or find ways where you can help your communities. Currently the Division Leadership Team is finding service events that we all can do from the safety of our homes, so please make sure to look out for those. Service is all around us and I hope throughout your time in quarantine, you have been trying to show your acts of service to others . Remember to stay safe and stay servicing! Thank you for reading the first issue of this term! I hope you enjoy it and continue to read the newsletters for this term. If you have any comments, questions , or concerns, feel free to contact me anytime. Until next time!

LTG RYAN My name is Ryan Son, the Lieutenant Governor for Division 19 North during the 20202021 term. I would like to start off and say that I am wishing and hoping for the many recoveries from the coronavirus. The coronavirus is nothing that we can just cut off, but it can be prevented from worsening only if we comply to follow protocols. The coronavirus has played a major role in our term this year, but we will not stop producing service and save lives. I am doing all in my power and ability to keep everyone in our division healthy and happy. I want to motivate all of you to continue being the wonderful people you were last year and become even more wonderful throughout this pandemic. Hello wonderful pirate penguins! Allow me to introduce myself officially. I am a current junior attending the California Academy of Mathematics and Science. I can remember that it was just yesterday when I attended my first event. This event was just like the other ones I have attended. We handed out water, gave high fives, and wished people good luck while running. Yes! It was indeed a marathon! Events like these marathons and races are the reason why I am here today, working alongside the wonderful division that never stops serving. Although we had some hardships throughout the past term, I can happily say that I would have not experienced those hardships with a different division no matter what. With the upcoming newsletters for the term, I hope to share my goals and interests as a Lieutenant Governor. To generalize my goals, I would like to have raised $3,000 by Fall Rally South and have produced 8,000 service hours by District Convention 2021. These goals are a huge step up from last year’s achievements. However, I believe that with my lead, I can help all schools come together and surpass these goals. Some specific goals I have are to charter two new clubs in our division and give an opportunity to students so that they can serve with a family and make a difference. I also plan on establishing the Icy Link System, especially because we are not able to meet in-person. The Icy Link System is a training method for those who have questions and would like to excel in their position. All of these goals have been set because I believe they are the best way to improve and be the best. However, I cannot accomplish any of these goals by myself. I need everyone to participate in helping with fundraisers and attending the many events that we host. Thank you, Division 19 North, for bringing me here. If it wasn’t for you, I would have never even dreamt of being on this newsletter.

MESSAGES FROM DLT Hey Pirate Penguins! My name is Celeste Gastelum and I am happy to serve you as Division 19 North’s Executive Assistant for the 2020-2021 term! I am currently a junior at CAMS and was able to proudly serve my home club as their Club Secretary (2019-20) and currently serve as their President (2020-21). I began my Key Club journey in my freshman year and as I fell in love with service and spirit throughout the years, Key Club has impacted my life in the best ways possible. From experiencing the fun of volunteering, my goal is to help you all get the best out of YOUR Key Club journey! When I’m not at a Key Club event, you can find me at school doing loads of homework. Or maybe at home, drinking tea and reading my favorite books. Or at my desk, organizing and designing my bullet journal. Though I won't know until the moment comes. Regardless though, I’m always pushing myself to the furthest possible and I hope to do the same throughout the term alongside my fellow DLT members and YOU!
CELESTE GASTELUM

Serving alongside my fellow Pirate Penguins at numerous volunteering events holds a special place in my heart. My Key Club journey has truly been incredible and I am thrilled to watch our division grow into a big and loving ohana this term. Outside of Key Club, you can find me jamming on the guitar or playing singles for my school’s girl’s varsity tennis team. Just like any other basic Filipina, I am pretty short and constantly drink my weight in bubble tea. Other than that, I’d like to thank you all for allowing me the privilege of serving Division 19 North as the Executive Assistant. I cannot wait to see our division grow and prosper this term!

AKHIL ATLURI CO-VP | CAMS
On May 6th, 2020, despite the underlying circumstances CAMS Key Club hosted its first meeting of the term—over Zoom. After more than 30 members joined the call, Celeste, the new CAMS Key Club President, commenced the meeting by asking everyone to snatch a lemon from their fridge. Despite the puzzling request, the meeting continued as normal; the May DCM was discussed and the new CAMS Key Club Board was introduced. It was then revealed that, in support of Eliminate Week, everyone had to devour their lemons. After a few sour bites, members from the DLT spoke about Committee applications and the meeting was adjourned.

During this quarantine, it is important to maintain proper hygiene! Make sure to wash your hands with soap for 20 seconds or longer and sanitize as much as possible when you’re out for errands.
Stay home and practice social distancing for your own safety and the safety of others! By staying home, we can slow down the spread of COVID-19 and enjoy our summers!
I know that staying at home all day can become very boring, but I urge you all to take advantage of this time to start new hobbies or pick up old ones! Learn how to play an instrument, read a new book, listen to music, or learn how to draw. You never know how many of these things you will enjoy! 13
