Mrs Pat Burnett was acknowledged for her long-standing community service at the Australia Day Breakfast BBQ hosted by the Tea Gardens Lions Club at Moira Park Reserve last Thursday.

In announcing the award, Lions President Peter Webb stated, “The Lions motto is ‘We Serve’ and as such when selecting Citizen of the Year we look for someone who has unselfishly served the community.

“I am pleased to announce that the Lions Citizen of the Year for Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest is Mrs Pat Burnett.

“Pat works as a volunteer visiting residents in their homes to provide company for a few hours every week.

“When Estia Health opened, Pat began volunteering to assist staff and residents.

“She has now been doing this for over ten years working up to four days a week.

“Pat assists running bingo, outings, armchair travel games, and Happy Hour for residents.

“She gives companionship and assistance to the residents who all look forward to seeing her and having a chat.

“Pat always has a smile and is willing to pitch in and help any way she can.

“Our world could do with many more
