WINTER 2016
newtoncommunityed.org • 617-559-6999
On the cover: Lydia Falchuk was a first grader at Burr when she created the “Pink House” as part of a project on 3-D houses in Ms. Batey’s art class. The inspiration for the pink house was Lydia’s reallife house, where she lives with her parents, older sister Brenna, older brother Colin, and dog Bridget. When she’s not making art, Lydia loves to dance, do gymnastics, play softball, play on her iPod, and hang out with her friends. Lydia is a very hard worker, especially in art, and she is very happy to have the opportunity to showcase her artwork on the NCE Kids brochure cover this winter.

WE’VE CHANGED OUR FORMAT! We’ve heard you ask for a school-byschool class listing in this brochure, so we have provided it here, on pages 6-7. To accommodate this information, we’ve had to cut back on copy elsewhere. Here’s what you need to know:
• Weekday classes for elementary
schoolers start at 3:15pm every day but Tuesday; Tuesday classes start at 12:45pm. The time between the end of school and the start of class is for snacks from home, and for travel time for kids coming from other schools.
• All classes are one hour long except where otherwise noted.
• Elementary school classes meet at
their regular times on early-release Wednesdays and Thursdays.
• Class times and lengths are listed for middle school classes.
• There are no classes on Newton Public Schools school vacations or holidays; additional “no-class” dates are listed with each class.
• Some of our course descriptions have been shortened to fit here. Please check our website for complete class information.
Questions? See our FAQs and Bahavior Policy on our website (highlights on page 7), or call us! We’re here to help (and we really like doing that).
