A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT
This year began with APTA New York setting its sights on continued attention to the fiscal responsibility of the organization and a desire to enhance connections, increase engagement and improve visibility of organization activities. As the first quarter of the year has progressed, APTA New York volunteers have been working towards achieving these efforts.
The Property Task Force introduced in January’s President letter, was formed, has deliberated and is currently preparing a thorough report to the board of directors for review. The board of directors will have time to discuss this report amongst themselves and within the respective districts to make an informed decision on whether the organization requires a physical space to provide exceptional membership services
This year another important committee (Executive Director Search Committee) has begun working on replacing a loyal and dedicated resource of APTA New York, Kelly Garceau, our
Executive Director. Kelly has served as an integral contact point for members for 15 years, 10 as Executive Director She has been a valued liaison between external stakeholder groups, a direct connection to APTA national and has served beyond her duties in overseeing the Chapter property. Her upcoming retirement will be coordinated with onboarding a new executive director to ensure a smooth transition. The Executive Director Search Committee is currently reviewing applications and is endeavoring to provide APTA New York with a replacement equal in abilities.
"Kelly has served as an integral contact point for members for 15 years, 10 as Executive Director. She has been a valued liaison between external stakeholder groups, a direct connection to APTA national and has served beyond her duties in overseeing the Chapter property."

ALETTERFROMOURPRESIDENTCONTINUED...
On February 8th, the Executive Committee of APTA New York hosted a virtual town hall meeting which was well attended, with over 70 members participating. This venue allowed for discussion regarding current activities including upcoming events such as Lobby Day (April 26th), Conference 2023 on October 7th, as well as open discussion on membership, the potential need for a technology committee, Executive Committee member visits to PT and PTA schools, member benefits and the value of being a member Additional discussions revolved around why members become members and if business development resources can become a component of education provided by APTA New York. The next town hall will be scheduled to occur in the last 2 weeks of June.
On April 26th, APTA New York volunteers will be in person in Albany to discuss upcoming legislation affecting our profession and those we serve These items include unrestricted direct access, patient access/co-pay, PTAs treating Workers’ Compensation patients and minimum education requirements.
We are truly on our way, working towards both the goals we have set for ourselves for this year as well as working within our strategic plan, committing to serving our individual communities and New York as a whole, “building a community that advances the profession of physical therapy to improve the health of society.”

WINTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORT CONT.
SUMMARYOFGENERATIVEDISCUSSION:
Discussion of the APTA NY Chapter Office Building. A task force will be created to investigate possible options and report back to the Board at the Spring meeting.
Membership dues are recovering. Asked if there are any suggestions on engaging the members more. PTA Caucus Representative asked for more access to members and for help to fill PTA liaison positions from the districts.
Looking for ways to build the PTA membership.
Reminder to the Districts to be the catalysts as we move into the awards season There is information on the website to assist in nominating colleagues.
Discussed conference and registration fees. There will be a dinner at the Annual Conference as well as lunch, and those wishing to attend just the dinner can do so for a fee. Registrants for one ½ day course will be required to pay for lunch if they choose to participate. The Program Committee is looking at acquiring sponsors for all courses.
The search for the new Executive Director will begin shortly. The ED’s retirement date is August 1, 2023.
The APTA Council of Chapter Presidents presented an employee-based dues discount program. The discount would be based on the number of employees. More information is expected to be provided at CSM.
Communities/Council names are in the process of being changed in certain student and PTA groups, but roles have not significantly changed. A successful Town Hall took place on February 8th from 8-9 pm with the leadership to share Chapter updates.
WINTER BOARD OF DIRECTORS REPORT CONT.
SUMMARYOFGENERATIVEDISCUSSION:
The PTA Caucus Representative has been working on a succession process since this is her last term of office. The title may change based on the changes made at APTA. Asked that districts bring PTAs to the DA meeting for voting for the new representative. Many thanks to the PTA Caucus Representative for her service.
At the present time, there is insufficient time to review the motions when they are due at the same time as the report. For the Spring BOD meeting, the deadline for motions will be earlier than the reports to allow the committee adequate time to review the motions as a group and provide feedback before submission to the report.
Student Liaisons are still needed from the PT and PTA Programs. Please contact the SSIG President. Discussed how to encourage new leaders. Suggested a training video that members might be able to access. Suggested an incentive for a candidate to attend a leadership workshop and encourage participants to serve in a role within APTA New York.
Succession planning is crucial. Suggested that a Leadership Academy be developed with involvement and mentorship by the Past President’s’ Council. Lobby Day is scheduled to be held on Wednesday, April 26th on the Third Floor Terrace of the Legislative Office Building in Albany, New York. Please encourage members to register early so that planning can be as effective as possible.
The plan is to have the Spring BOD reports done more efficiently on Basecamp.
