ZONA NORTE GRANDE Entre el límite septentrional con Perú y la región de Antofagasta, el país está dominado por la aridez del Desierto de Atacama, depósito de importantes riquezas mineras. Humberstone, Santa Laura, Pedro de Valdivia y María Elena, son algunos de los nostálgicos testimonios del esplendor salitrero y mudos testigos del paso del tiempo. La naturaleza ha prodigado a esta bella zona de géisers, salares, altiplano y cumbres andinas. También existen sitios arqueológicos. En San Pedro de Atacama, el Museo del Padre Le Paige atesora restos textiles, momias y utensilios de uso cotidiano cuya antigüedad es mayor a los 10.000 años. Próximo a San Pedro de Atacama, el Valle de la Luna ofrece la fascinación de un paisaje selenita, con sus escultóricos roqueríos salinos. Es el marco perfecto para apreciar la solitaria belleza. On the northern border with Peru and the region of Antofagasta, Chile is ruled by the arid Desert of Atacama. The main cities in this region are Arica, Iquique, Antofagasta, Calama, the starting point towards Chuquicamata, the largest open pit copper mine in the world and San Pedro de Atacama, one of the main tourist attractions of the zone. The boom in nitrate mining during the 19th century left numerous ghost towns. Humberstone, Santa Laura, Pedro de Valdivia and María Elena are silent and nostalgic witnesses of the splendor of the nitrate days and the passage of time. Mother Nature has blessed this area with geysers, salt mines, the high plateau and Andean peaks. There are also important archeological sites such as San Pedro de Atacama where the Museo del Padre Le Paige (Father Le Paige Museum) houses the remains of textiles, mummies and everyday objects over 10,000 years old. Near San Pedro, the Valle de la Luna (Valley of the Moon) offers visitors fascinating moon-like sceneries. A surrealist landscape of multiple colors, silhouettes and figures upon which light, shadow and imagination play at will.

Ciudad hermosamente colonial, posee el mayor número de iglesias por habitante de Chile, magníficas playas y una excelente infraestructura turística. Hacia el interior, Vicuña y el Valle del Elqui, sector lleno de magnetismo, rodeado de montañas lila, ocre y amarillo, cuya fertilidad impresiona tanto como la energía que se siente desde el infinito.

In Vicuña, there is a museum that preserves part of her work and in the village of Montegrande you can visit her home. The main cities in the Norte Chico are Copiapó, the capital of the Atacama Region, Coquimbo, a commune full of histories and legends, it holds 56 kilometers of beaches and La Serena, a beautiful city with colonial overtones and also home to the largest number of churches in Chile, magnificent beaches and excellent tourist facilities. Inland is Vicuña and the Elquí Valley, place brimming over with magnetism and surrounded by lilac, ochre and yellow mountains whose fertile soils are as astounding as the energy you feel from beyond.

DE CHILLAN A PUERTO MONTT Entre estas localidades sureñas todo el paisaje es verde. But, the land of lakes and volcanos begins in Temuco. From here onwards the countryside is incredibly beautiful. Woods, meadows and mountains without ending. Villarrica and Pucón, lake, volcano and city whit excellente hotels, help make this one of the most “in” summer holiday resorts in Chile. Valdivia, on the banks of the River Calle Calle, is well worth exploring and saling around. Further south, at the foot of the Osorno Volcano, is the vast lake Llanquihue eith its shoreside villages of Frutillar, Puerto Varas, Puerto Octay, Centinela and Ensenada, dating from the early German colonists who first settled here. And just a stone throw away is Puerto Montt. PATAGONIA CHILENA Y EXTREMO AUSTRAL A partir de Puerto Montt, el paisaje vuelve a cambiar. El territorio, hasta este punto sólido y compacto, se desmembra en miles de islas, fiordos y canales de indescriptible hermosura. Las islas más importantes conforman el Archipiélago de Chiloé, zona de ricos y exuberantes paisajes, mitología, artesanías y leyendas. Platos tradicionales como “el curanto”, productos como la patata y la “cueca chilota”, le dan una fuerte identidad cultural. La zona continental es recorrida por la Carretera Austral que cruza la Región de Aysén. Es la Patagonia Chilena, tierra de pioneros, caudalosos ríos, volcanes y cascadas en medio de la fría selva sureña. Un imperdible para visitar es la laguna y glaciar San Rafael, impresionante ventisquero que data de tiempos prediluvianos. En los confines del continente, se encuentra la ciudad de Punta Arenas a orillas del Estrecho de Magallanes. Sorprende en estas latitudes, encontrar, antiguas y elegantes construcciones, testigos del auge ganadero y del Estrecho, paso obligado de todos los barcos hasta comienzos del siglo. Punta Arenas es el punto de partida hacia Torres del Paine, uno de los más espectaculares Parques Nacionales de Chile, y hacia Tierra del Fuego. También se pueden conocer las antiguas estancias ganaderas de la zona, donde los arrieros ofrecen al visitante un trozo de asado de oveja cocido sobre fuego.

Here you can also visit former livestock estates and enjoy a slice of BBQ lamb.
